Flinchbaugh, Palm City, Fla., formerly of Oil City Beverly T. Paluh, Pithole Road, Pleasantville Clair W. Steele, Steele Road, Limestone Township Marie E. Barnett, 63, of Turkey City Road, Knox, Salem Township, Clarion County, died at 8:05 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, in her home following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born July 12, 1944, in Romney, W,Va., she was the daughter of the late Herbert A. and Lena F. Daetwyler Oschman. Mrs. Barnett was a 1962 graduate of Keystone High School in Knox. She first was employed for 10 years as a secretary with the Sterling Oil Division of Quaker State Refining Corp. Later she was employed as a bookkeeper by Terry Kahle in Knox. Following that employment, she was employed for 27 years with the Farmer's National Bank of Emlenton. She retired from the bank's data entry department in December 2006. Mrs. Barnett was an active member of the Salem Reformed United Church of Christ in Lamartine, where she had served on the church consistory, was secretary of the Ladies Aid Society, sang in the church choir, and worked in the church in various other capacities throughout her many years of membership. She enjoyed the company of her grandchildren, bird watching, cross stitch, flower gardening, cooking and baking. Mrs. Barnett was married Aug. 30, 1963, in the Salem United Church of Christ to Ronald E. Barnett, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Garrick A. Barnett and wife, Diana, of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Ginger McGiffin and husband, Bob, of Salem; and three grandchildren, Dalton Barnett, Ethan Barnett and Peyton McGiffin. She also is survived by a brother, Herbert A. Oschman Jr. and wife, Dianne, of Seneca; a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Mrs. Barnett was preceded in death by her father, Herbert A. Oschman, Jan. 31, 1970; her mother, Lena F. Daetwyler Oschman, Sept. 30, 1994; and a brother, Raymond E. Oschman, in 1989. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Salem Reformed United Church of Christ with the Rev. Chris Lewis, church pastor, officiating. Online condolences may be sent to [email protected] Verda Arlene Bean Verda Arlene Bean, 77, of Rosebush, Mich., died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, in her residence surrounded by her family following a short but courageous battle with cancer. Born April 22, 1930, in Rosebush, Mich., she was the daughter of Oliver and Lena Bellinger House. She was married in Otsego, Mich., Feb. 17, 1950, to Robert G. Bean, who was born in Venango County and has many relatives surviving in that area. He died Nov. 15, 2004. Verda was a great partner to her husband in the raising of their family and in the operation of the family farm. Mrs. Bean was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed her family. She was a member for more than 50 years of the Rosebush United Methodist Church where she practiced her love of music. Surviving are her children, Kelly (Denise) Bean and Jeff (Lee) Bean, both of Rosebush, Mich.; grandchildren, Keegan and Eathan Bean of Rosebush, Mich., Todd Bean of Mount Pleasant, Mich., and Lindsay (Lee) Harsh of Coleman, Mich.; and great-grandchildren Abegail, Bella and Robert Harsh of Coleman. Mich. She also is survived by her brothers, Dale (Nina) House, Arlo (Barb) House and Gary (Shirley) House; her sisters, Theda (Morval) LaLone and Enid Nestle; the following in-laws, Wellington Funnell, Dale and Wenna Bean, John and Gail Bean, Paul and Janet Bean, Elwood and Martha Shreckengost, Charanne Bean, Ruth Ann Stahlsmith, Margaret Dunn and Melanie Bean; and many special friends, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Bean was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Funnell. Burns, 66, of Clarion, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, in Clarion Hospital surrounded by her family. Born Sept. 5, 1941, in Clarion, she was the daughter of Clair D. McEntire of Country Springs Assisted Living in Limestone Township and the late Lois Frampton McEntire. She graduated from Clarion-Limestone High School and Robert Morris College. Mrs. Burns had been a real estate sales person for Century 21 in Clarion and had owned the Clarion 7-Eleven Store. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion. Mrs. Burns had been a board member for the Clarion Hospital. She enjoyed researching her family tree, playing cards and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who knew her as "Nana." Surviving, in addition to her father, are a daughter, Rebecca V. Shick and her husband, Kenneth "Rocky," of Rimersburg; two sons, Robbie V. Burns of Clarion RD and Rollie V. Burns and wife, Tammy, of Clarion; seven grandchildren, Amanda Burns, Alissa Burns and Anna Burns of Clarion, Mason Burns of Shippenville, and Brody Shick, Shaley Shick and Lexey Shick of Rimersburg. She also is survived by a sister, Janice L. Frazer and husband, Rod, of Jonestown; a brother, David C. McEntire and wife, Sandra, of Knox; an aunt, Martha Schaeffer of Clarion; and four nieces, Megan Schnabl, Alanna McEntire, Amy Boyer and Angela Shirk. Among her many friends were Carolyn "Snook" Axtell and Vivian Russell. In addition to her mother, Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Icy Y. Burns. Flinchbaugh, 83, of Palm City, Fla., formerly of Oil City, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, in Florida where she had been a resident since 1984. Born Oct. 26, 1924, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Max R. and Elizabeth S. Netzler Holtz. Mrs, Flinchbaugh was a secretary in banking in her younger years and had attained her certificate in A.I.B. She also had worked for Pennzoil Co., Quaker State and Franklin Hospital. She was the wife of Walter E. Flinchbaugh and after his death, she devoted her life to working with children and served thousands of hours volunteering in Martin County schools. She did tutoring as well as mentoring. She also was affiliated with RSVP. In 2004 she was appointed a substitute teacher and served for several years at Hidden Oaks Middle School. Mrs. Flinchbaugh was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Florida and served in several capacities as well as circle chairman. In Oil City she served many offices as a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church. She did knitting and sewing for people of the community. She was very active in supplying knitted garments for Martin Memorial Maternity Department. Mrs. Flinchbaugh was married May 14, 1943, to Walter E. Flinchbaugh, who preceded her in death Nov. 21, 1991. Surviving are a daughter, Suzanne Himebaugh of Palm City, Fla.; a son, David Flinchbaugh of Wilmington, N.C.; and six grandchildren, Nathan and Jason Flinchbaugh of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., Michael and Lauren Himebaugh of Palm City, Fla., and Tara and Morgan Flinchbaugh of Fort Wayne, Ind. She also is survived by three sisters, Helen McMillen of Franklin, Joanne Hailey of Greenville, S.C., and Dorothy Maurer of Hiawatha, Iowa. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Flinchbaugh in 2001, and one sister, Maxine Barnhart. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Paluh, 75, of Pithole Road, Pleasantville, died at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, in her residence. The Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, Titusville, is in charge of arrangements. Steele, 84, of Steele Road, Limestone Township, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 7, 2007, in Jefferson Manor, Brookville, where he had resided for the past two and a half years. Born Oct. 12, 1923, in Limestone Township, he was the son of Clark and Christina B Caldwell Steele. Mr. Steele had been a dozer operator for Stahlman Coal Co. and C&K Coal Co. where he retired in 1985. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Roseville Grange. Mr. Steele enjoyed hunting and watching baseball. In his younger years, he had played baseball. He was married March 22, 1942, to Myrtle M. Davis, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Sandr Gilligan and husband, Joseph, of Limestone; one son, Richard Steele and wife, Janice, of Watsontown; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Steele of Strattanville; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, Mr. Steele was preceded in death by two sons, Larry and Mike Steele; one daughter, Susan Shick; two infant grandsons, Eric Farley and Todd Farley; four sisters Arvetta Smith, Bertha Smith, Maxine Steele and Helen Steele; and one brother, Harold Steele. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, Clarion, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church of Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the church with Pastor Keith Richardson officiating. Interment will be in Pisque Cemetery, Corsica. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Clarion, Main Street, Clarion, 16214, or to Jefferson Manor, Brookville.
