The Derrick, November 21, 2007: Mary Catherine Cross, Franklin Margaret E. Reed, Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Clarion Mary Catherine Cross, 53, of 137 Circle St., Franklin, died at 6:18 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at UPMC Northwest, Seneca, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Franklin, Feb. 25, 1954, a beloved daughter of Andrew H. and Ruth Ann Daley Keeley. She attended St. Patrick School and graduated in 1972 from Rocky Grove High School. She was employed for many years as a supervisor at Polk Center. She retired in October due to failing health following 35 years of service. Ms. Cross enjoyed bowling, gardening around her home and experiencing the many fun times spent camping with her family. She was very active in the American Cancer Society, especially with the annual Relay for Life. While in failing health, she courageously walked the track on both Friday and Saturday in June. She was a member of St. Patrick Church, Franklin. Ms. Cross is survived by her children, Shane, Rachel and Jeffrey Cross, all at home; her step-daughters, Carrie McElhinney and her husband Sean and their son Seth, of Emlenton, and Kim Brown and her husband Michael and their son Mason, of Clintonville; her parents, Andrew H. and Ruth Ann Keeley, of Franklin; two sisters, Marcia Burgard, of Mercer, and Teresa Hovis and her husband Philip, of Kennerdell; three brothers, Daniel Keeley, of North East, Andrew Keeley, of Downingtown, and Damian Keeley, of Erie. Also surviving are many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk St., Franklin. A Christian Wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Additional viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Patrick Church with Monsignor Ernest J. Daley, senior associate of St. Jude Church, Erie, and also the uncle of Ms. Cross, as celebrant. Monsignor John J. Herbein and the Rev. Robert A. Manning, of St. Patrick, and the Rev. John Malthaner, headmaster of Venango Catholic High School, Oil City, will concelebrate. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Reed, 93, formerly of Clarion, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2007, in the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born Dec. 27, 1913, in Foxburg, she was the daughter of the late William and Hannah Reed. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Father in Foxburg. Miss Reed was a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone Co. in Clarion for many years. She is survived by her daughter Deanna Hutchison and her husband Earl; two grandchildren, Sherry Serafini and her husband Greg of Natrona Heights and Robert Hutchison and his wife Denise of Kingsville; four great-grandchildren, Erika, Nicole, Jayme and Alyxie. Also surviving are three sisters, Marilyn Reed of Foxburg, Muriel Reed of Clarion and Gloria R. Burns and her husband Edward of Shippenville; a brother, Richard Reed and his wife Sally of Pleasantville; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Alice Murray, Gertrude Foust, Adda Horton and Clara Gardner; and a brother, William Reed. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p .m. Wednesday at the Varner Funeral Home, Sligo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Rapp, pastor of the Callensburg Church of God, officiating. Interment will be in the Episcopal Church Cemetery, Foxburg.
