Bashline, 67, formerly of Pine City, died Saturday morning, Aug. 11, 2007, in the Golden Living Center, Clarion. Born Sept. 2, 1939, he was the son of Dorothy Myers Bashline of Knox and the late Walter E. Bashline. Mr. Bashline was employed at Knox Glass until its closing and worked as a security guard until retiring due to illness. He was a member of the Pine City United Methodist Church and was an honorary member of the Shippenville/Elk Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are two sons, Vern Bashline and his wife, Donna, and Stan Bashline all of Pine City; and five grandchildren, Matt, Scott, Shawn, Aaron and Nathan. He also is survived by three brothers, John Bashline and his wife, Donna, of Inverness, Fla., and James Bashline and his wife, Lu, and Rodney Bashline, all of Knox; two sisters, Margaret Evans of Columbia, S.C., and Mary White of Centre Hall; a special friend, Mary Henry of Limestone; and his former wife, Helen I. Manross Bashline of Pine City. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the William N. Rupert Mortuary Inc. in Knox. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Myers, pastor of the Mount Joy United Methodist Church, officiating. Bolt, 71, of 1186 Bell Town Road, Sligo, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack Sunday afternoon, Aug. 12, 2007, while attending church camp at the Church of God Chapel, Barnett Township, Jefferson County. Clayton, 88, of 21 North Reeds Furnace Road, Sandy Lake, died at 3:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, in her home after a short illness. Born Aug. 16, 1918, in Stoneboro, she was the daughter of Joseph T. and Jennie A. Anderson Chisholm. She was a 1938 graduate of the former Stoneboro High School. Mrs. Clayton retired in 1979 from Polk Center after 15 years of service. She was of the Protestant faith. Mrs. Clayton enjoyed crocheting, needlework and quilting. She was married June 12, 1940, to George L. Clayton, who preceded her in death April 10, 1994. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. William H. (Brenda J.) Cress and Mrs. Lawrence T. (Janet L.) Silvis, all of Sandy Lake; one son, David L. Clayton of Stoneboro; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one cousin, J. Richard Lichtenberger and wife, Thelma, of Jackson Center. Born Oct. 4, 1919, in Franklin, he was the son of Walter and Leona Orr Cotterman. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy on a refueling ship in the South Pacific. For 21 years, Mr. Cotterman worked at Bears Furniture and Appliance in Franklin, retiring in 1984. He also had worked for Buckeye Gas Products in Conneaut Lake and retired in 1984. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping and being outdoors. He loved socializing with friends and just being around people. Mr. Cotterman was of the Protestant faith. He married Ella Shull Oct. 29, 1949, and she preceded him in death June 6, 2003. Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Zolnai and husband, David, of Linesville and Pamela Crays and companion, Larry Ordway, of Meadville; a son, Clifford P. Cotterman Jr. of Conneaut Lake; six grandchildren, David Zolnai Jr., Pamela Sue Leupold, Chad Shelatz, Stacy Heinle, Heather Cotterman and Tiffany Cotterman; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Sydney, Alexis and Aidan. Born in Franklin, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Francis and Minnie Freda Snyder Stubbs. She was a 1945 graduate of Franklin High School. Mrs. Fischer began her career as a secretary in the service department of Joy Manufacturing Co. She then was hired as a clerk stenographer and shortly thereafter, she was promoted to an unemployment compensation interviewer for the Pennsylvania Employment Service (State Job Service) in Oil City for 11 years. She also worked alone one day a week for many years in the Franklin office, granting benefits to the unemployed. She later worked in the cafeteria at Central Elementary School, retiring in 1986. She was the adult Sunday school pianist at Grace Lutheran Church for 17 years. She received recognition for having 23 years consecutive perfect attendance by a pin with yearly numeral changes. For a time she assisted the late Rev. Alice Beals with chapel services at the Franklin Hospital. Mrs. Fischer enjoyed feeding birds and animals and was involved with several animal rights organizations. Surviving are a son , Mark Daniel "Danny" Fischer of Franklin and close family friend, Connie Sporer of Oil City; and her endearing cat, Smokie Elizabeth, whose picture is in the Dad's Pet Food headquarters, representing all her past family pets. Daniel W. McClay, 55, of 1958 Georgetown Road, Sandy Lake, Mill Creek Township, died at 3:19 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, in his home after an extended illness. Born May 9, 1952, in Meadville, he was the son of Grant W. and Augusta Y. Boggs McClay. He was a 1971 graduate of Lakeview High School. Mr. McClay worked at Electralloy Manufacturing in Oil City and in 1995, he began McClay's Automotive Service on Georgetown Road until his illness. He was a member of the Franklin VFW Jesse G. Greer Post No. 1835. Mr. McClay loved cars and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially the time spent with family and friends. Bain, both of Franklin; his former wife, Carla Daly of Franklin; and four grandsons, Logan Page, John Monaco II, Cody Monaco and Brady Nisson. Smith, 44, formerly of Oil City, was shot and killed Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, in Perrysburg, Ohio. He originally was from Toledo, Ohio, before moving to Oil City with his family in 1974. Mr. Smith was a 1981 graduate of Oil City High School and earned his bachelor's degree in 1985 in human resources management. He moved back to the Toledo area and worked at different transportation firms before becoming the Ohio manager at Liberty Trucking in April 2006. Mr. Smith enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid ice fisherman. He loved splitting wood with his father back in Pennsylvania. He was a kind-hearted person always willing to do anything for anybody. Surviving are his parents, Donald and Charlene Smith of Oil City; two sisters, Karen Gerndt and husband, John, of Centreville, Va., their daughter, Regan, and Christina Engles and husband, Jeff, of Oil City, their children, Kelsey, Delaney and Brady; stepchildren, Jason Truitt and wife, Deanna, their children, Jordan and Andrew Truitt, and Jill Meyers and husband, Darwin, their children, Dustin and Dallys. Mr. Smith was to be married next month to his fiancée, Cindy Collins.
