Sheatz, 71, RD 1 Knox Alyssa Lynn Stroup, 14055 Fisher Road, Sigel Doris Rose Woolstrum, 29117 Fowler Road, Guys Mills Jane Elizabeth Kahle Cameron, service set Opal Irene Pierce Bell, 83, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Ninevah, Clarion County, died Friday, June 29, 2007, in Florida after a long illness. Born March 17, 1924, at the family farmhouse in Ninevah, she was the daughter of Fred N. Pierce and Maude E. Stumpner Pierce. She married James L. Bell in 1941, and he preceded her in death in 1979. Mrs. Bell worked at J.C. Penney in Oil City for several years as a retail sales manager, and she later worked at Owens Illinois in Clarion until she retired. She will always be lovingly remembered by her family for her outstanding cooking and baking. Holidays always brought all of Mrs. Bell's family together, along with friends and acquaintances, for incredible spreads of home-cooked meals, fresh baked breads and rolls, and outstanding pies, cakes and other desserts to complete the experience. Mrs. Bell's pies were sold around the Clarion area at one time. She lived in western Pennsylvania for 65 years until moving to Cape Coral in 1989. Once in Florida, her love of the beach and warm sun did not fade. No longer did she have to wait for springtime temperatures to start her tanning process, it was a year-round ritual. Mrs. Bell also finally acquired her dream car - a bright red Corvette - at the age of 67. She loved life, and lived life, to the fullest. Mrs. Bell is survived by two daughters, Carol Knight and her husband, Donald, of Lenoir, N.C., and Peggy Sue Wells and her husband, Stephen, of Copperas Grove, Tex.; one son, Randy L. Bell and his wife, Bonnie Jean, of Fort Myers, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Terry A. Bell, in 2000. A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Bell's life was held July 5 in Cape Coral. Many family members gathered from all over the country to share in her remembrance. The service was officiated by Pastor Steve Rogers of the River Church and Pastor David Pleasant of Covenant Community Ministries. Inurnment will be in Clarion Cemetery. Ricky E. Harrelson, 26, of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Franklin, died on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, due to a motorcycle accident in Raleigh. He was born Dec. 6, 1980, in Conway, S.C. Ricky was a 2000 graduate of Franklin High School. He was employed as a trim carpenter and cabinet installer. He enjoyed NASCAR, riding ATV's, motorcycles, bowling and football. Ricky is survived by his mother, Cindy Daniels and her husband of Oil City; his father Ricky D. Harrelson and his wife of Youngsville, N.C. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sisters, Shanon Shawgo and her fiancé Jim McCauley of Franklin and their four children, and Ashley Westfall of Oil City; and two step-sisters, Shasta Sutton and Tiffany Johnson of North Carolina; grandparents, Joanie and Jack Schmader of Oil City, and Henry Earl Harrelson of Conway, S.C.; and a special friend, Suzanne Chytil of Raleigh, N.C. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Evelyn and Todd Shawgo. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rynd Farm Cemetery in Rouseville, PA and will be conducted by Rev. Ron Bole. Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., to help defray funeral expenses. Sonja L. Mawhinney, 60, of 721 Wilson Ave., Rocky Grove, died suddenly Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007. Born June 27, 1947, in Franklin, she was a daughter of the late Melvin B. Mong Jr. and Margaret A. Reed Mong, who survives. She graduated from Rocky Grove High School and later attended beauty school in Buffalo, N.Y., and in Oil City. Mrs. Mawhinney had been a beautician for the last 16 years at Sugar Creek Station. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Rocky Grove, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rocky Grove Fire Department Auxiliary, of which she had been named woman of the year. Mrs. Mawhinney also was very active in the Venango County 4-H, serving as leader of the Dazzlers, on the Extension Club, and on the Development Committee. She enjoyed all kinds of arts and crafts. She and her husband, James R. Mawhinney, whom she married May 26, 1967, just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Michelle Butkiewicz and her husband, Frank, of Crosby, Texas; two sons, Rusty Mawhinney and his wife, Johna, of Durango, Colo., and Benjamin Mawhinney and his wife, Nicole, of Cooperstown; a sister, Sally Burrows of Bayfield, Colo.; a brother, Thomas Mong and his wife, Sarah, of Brazoria, Texas; and her mother, Margaret Mong of Franklin. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Kimberly and Carrie Butkiewicz of Crosby, Texas, G.J., Toshua, Raven and Miranda Mawhinney, all of Durango, Colo., and Elizabeth Mawhinney of Cooperstown; one niece, Whitney Martindale of Bayford, Colo.; and one nephew, Alen Burrows of Oceanside, Calif. McCarthy, 59, formerly of Oil City, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, in Reno-Tahoe, Nev. Born Donna Gay Wynkoop on Sept. 5, 1947, in Oil City, she was the oldest of four daughters to the late Donald and Phyllis Crouch Wynkoop of Oil City. Donna grew up on Cowell Avenue and excelled in school. She attended Clarion University of Pennsylvania where she graduated with honors. Donna completed her masters of education degree at Clarion and returned to Oil City to teach elementary education. She became Mrs. John D. "Mickey" McCarthy II on June 27, 1970. They made a home at 508 Cowell Ave., Oil City - the street where they both grew up and where she lived until her recent move to retire in Lake Tahoe on the California/Nevada border. Mrs. McCarthy no longer taught while raising their two children. She returned to work in the 1980s as vice president of Weaver Buick Co. and continued in that capacity until the sale of the business in the early 1990s. Following the death of her husband in 1992, Donna returned to school and ultimately went to work in the travel industry with Williams Insurance and Travel in Oil City. She was an avid and excellent bridge player and will be missed by the many friends with whom she shared that pastime. Upon her move to the Reno-Tahoe area, she enjoyed walks by the lake with her son and long drives on mountain roads in her classic convertible. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle S. McCarthy; and son, Thomas E. McCarthy II; and four-legged friends Beau, Molly and Annie. Also surviving are three sisters, Sharon L. Hermanson of Raliegh, N.C. and Susan M. Goss and Janet R. Harry L. Sheatz, 71, of RD 1 Knox (Ninevah) died early Friday morning, Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at his home, following a two-year battle with cancer. Born Feb. 6, 1936, in the same room of the family homestead in which he passed away, he was the son of the late Guy L. and Elsie Mitchell Sheatz. Mr. Sheatz worked for C&K Tool Company prior to his retirement. He was president of the Starr Cemetery Association and attended the Church of the Nazarene near Kossuth. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, watching NASCAR and spending time with his family. On Feb. 5, 1955, he married Helen J. Felmlee, who survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Sheatz is survived by four sons, Chris Sheatz and his wife, Franki, of RD Cranberry, H. Scott Sheatz and his wife, Elaine, of RD Cranberry, Jody Sheatz and his wife, Andrea, of RD Knox, and Tim Sheatz of RD Knox; 10 grandchildren, Rainey Hetrick and husband, Randy, of Brookville, Heather Crompton and husband, Chad, of Knox, Lindsey Sheatz and special friend, Brandon Summerville, of Knox, April Sheatz of Pittsburgh, Joelle Sheatz of RD Cranberry, Joy Lillian Sheatz of Knox, Toby Sheatz and special friend, Kathy Beers, of Franklin, Christopher Sheatz of Pittsburgh, Jeremiah Sheatz and special friend Kayla Bullers of Shippenville, Hunter Sheatz of RD Cranberry; and three great-grandchildren, Caleb Crompton, Drew Crompton and Brittney Sheatz, all of Knox. Alyssa Lynn Stroup, 7, of 14055 Fisher Road, Sigel, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, in Brookville Hospital. Born Jan. 27, 2000, in Clarion, she was a daughter of Dennis E. "Jake" Stroup Jr. and Melissa L. Porter Stroup. Alyssa was a second grade student at Pinecreek Elementary School in Brookville. She was a member of the Sigel United Methodist Church and the Sigel Brownie Girl Scout Troup #322. She also was a member of the Brookville Soccer Association, the Brookville Bowling League and attended cheerleading camp and was looking forward to being a cheerleader. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, camping and motorcycle riding with her dad. In addition to her parents, Alyssa is survived by her sister, Danica Stroup at home; maternal grandparents, James and Sally Porter of Fisher, paternal grandparents, Dennis and Ramona Stroup of Mayport; paternal great-grandparents, Donald and Louella Stroup of Strattanville and Richard and Betty Shick of Smicksburg; a step great-grandmother, Lucille Sayers of New Bethlehem; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; her dog Snap and her cat Weezer. She was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandparents, Roland S. and Mary Lillian Porter; paternal great-grandparents, Russell and Cynthia Sayers; and a step great-grandmother, Eveline Porter. Doris Rose Irwin Woolstrum, 83, of 29117 Fowler Road, Guys Mills, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at her residence. Born Jan. 4, 1924, in Cochranton, she was the daughter of David James and Minnie Best Irwin. She graduated from Cochranton High School in 1942. She then worked for American Viscose and also at Talon. On Oct. 7, 1943, she married Ralph E. Woolstrum, who preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1996. She and her husband owned and operated their family dairy farm. Mrs. Woolstrum was a member of Sugar Lake United Methodist Church and the Townville Senior Citizens. She enjoyed canning and gardening, especially her irises. She is survived by seven children, Sandra Buchanan and her close friend, Jack, of Meadville, Donna Lang and her husband, John, of Guys Mills, Kathryn Amos and her husband, Glenn, of Waterford, Charlie Woolstrum of Guys Mills, Charlotte Hamilton and her husband, Steve, of Meadville, Ruth Pratt and her husband, Rick, of Meadville, and Bonnie Feiereisen of Phoenix, Ariz. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Scott Whitman, Julie Snyder, Phil and Brian Amos, Matthew Woolstrum, Stacey Chess, Amy Pianta, Ryan Pratt, Sarah McKnight, and Kenny, Katie and Krissy Feiereison; and 15 great-grandchildren, Christopher and Ashley Amos, Michael Pringle, Christen, Amanda and Zach Snyder, Jack Turner, Carrissa and Morgan Chess, Gavin, Collin and Elaina McKnight, Kenneth and Isabella Feiereison and Jordan Clay. Joseph E. Filer, IV, D. Min., officiating. Interment was in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
