    3. The Derrick, August 20, 2007: Joseph L. Flinchbaugh, 36 Harold St., Oil City W. Dale Hammerlee, Findley Lake, N.Y., formerly of Franklin Hugh H. Hashness, Jr., Dotterer Road, Emlenton Jean K. Owens, Silver Spring, Md., formerly of Marienville Sara Rae, Clintonville, formerly of Cranberry R. Roy Rankin, New Bethlehem Marcella R. Simpson, Wood Street, Clarion Joseph L. Flinchbaugh, 46, of 36 Harold St., Oil City, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home Friday, Aug. 17, 2007. Born May 6, 1961, in Oil City , he was a son of George and Marion Show Flinchbaugh of Seneca, who survive. Mr. Flinchbaugh was a 1979 graduate of Cranberry High School. He had worked at Reno Plastics and Lowry Auto Wrecking. Mr. Flinchbaugh was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved spending time at the race track and restoring vehicles. He was bound and determined to catch the big one this year for the Mister Whiskers Fishing Tournament. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a special companion, Sandy Stahlman; their sons, Caleb Stahlman and Elijah Flinchbaugh; and a stepson, Taylor Stahlman, all of Oil City; a daughter, Tashana Flinchbaugh of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a son, Joseph Flinchbaugh and wife Emiline of Oil City; two grandchildren, Joseph and Meghan Flinchbaugh of Oil city; two sisters, Kristina Fleeger and husband David and Kimberly Flinchbaugh and special friend, Richard Lowry, all of Oil City; a nephew, Curtis Perry; and a niece, Lacey Lovejoy of Oil City; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made for his young sons at National City Bank. W. Dale Hammerlee, 81, of Sunnyside Road, Findley Lake, N.Y., died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at his residence. Born Dec. 23, 1925, in Polk, Mr. Hammerlee was a son of Floyd R.and Iva E. Davis Hammerlee Sr. He was raised in the Franklin area and graduated from Franklin High School in 1943. During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as an aviation cadet. Upon his discharge, he returned to Franklin and went to work at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company as a machinist. Mr. Hammerlee had also worked for Joy Manufacturing in Franklin and Oil Well Supply in Oil City. In 1959, he moved to Corry and began employment with Ajax Iron Works (Cooper Industries). He retired in 1986 as a machine shop foreman. Following his retirement, he worked for the Bracken Funeral Home for many years. His greatest enjoyment was being active with his children and grandchildren in sporting events and other activities including his church. He also enjoyed boating and taking his children and grandchildren skiing. Mr. Hammerlee was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Corry and presently a member of the First Alliance Church in Erie and was a former deacon at First Alliance. Over the years, he had served on the Board of Directors of Corry Memorial Hospital and the Zoning Board of Findley Lake. Mr. Hammerlee is survived by his wife, Shirley Chamberlain Hammerlee. They were married Nov. 25, 1950, in Franklin. He is also survived by two daughters, Marsha E. Marsh and her husband Greg of Erie and Adele D. Futato and her husband, Mark of Oviedo, Fla; a son, William D. Hammerlee, Jr., and his wife, Valerie of Erie; three sisters, Sara Jane Borland of Winchester, Va., Patricia J. Smith of Naples, Fla. and Norma J. Siekkinen and her husband, Duane of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, Lucas Marsh and his wife Nicole, Laban Marsh and his wife Megan, Levi Marsh and his wife Kim, Lamech Marsh and his wife Anne Marie, Rebekah Thobaben and her husband Zack, Adam, Laura, and Sarah Hammerlee, William, Evan, Mark David, and Annie Futato; a great-granddaughter Alexis Marsh; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd "Raymond" Hammerlee Jr. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center Street, Corry, and from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Alliance Church in Erie with Rev. Rick Crocker officiating. Hasness Jr., 72, of Dotterer Road, Emlenton, Richland Township, Venango County, died at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007 at his residence following an illness. Born on Aug. 24, 1934 in North Lima, Ohio, he was the son of Hugh H. Sr. and Nila L. Wolfgang Hasness. Mr. Hasness was a 1952 graduate of North Lima High School. He was a retired farmer and had worked for many years for various companies in the wholesale market. Mr. Hasness was a member for many years of the Emlenton United Methodist Church and had most recently become a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Emlenton. He belonged to the Allen Masonic Lodge in Columbiana, Ohio, and the Consistory Valley of New Castle. He was also a member of the Venango Toymakers of Franklin. Mr. Hasness was an avid John Deere tractor enthusiast. He had been an Emlenton resident since 1990. He is survived by his beloved companion, Audrey A. Kozalla of Emlenton; three daughters and their husbands, Cynthia and Charles Bates of Beaver, Brenda and Randy Johns and Diana and John Lamont, all of Ford City; a sister, Karen Wiseman and her husband Robert of Dayton, Ohio; five grandchildren, Charles D. Bates of Beaver, Christopher M. Bates and his wife Amber of Industry, Randy Johns Jr. and Ashley A. Johns, both of Ford City, Nicole L. Stover and her husband Michael of Kittanning; four great grandchildren, Chuckie and Lisabeth Bates, both of Beaver, and Abilgail L. Bellas and Kylie Stover, both of Kittanning; his companion Audrey's son, Wesley D. Kozalla of Conover, North Carolina; his children's mother, Edith Hasness, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Hasness was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton. Owens, of Silver Spring, Md., formerly of Marienville, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at the home of her son, John Owens, in Frederick, Md. Born April 9, 1923, in Marienville, she was the daughter of John W. Kelly and Leah Elizabeth Whiteman Kelly. On June 4, 1945, she married Leonard Owens, who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Bethesda, Md. When she lived in Marienville, she attended the United Methodist church. She also was a member of the Ross Moor Art Guild in the greater Washington, D.C., area. Mrs. Owens retired in 1983 after 40 years of service as a budget analyst with the U.S. Defense Department. Surviving is one son, John Owens, of Frederick, Maryland. The family will receive friends and family from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Ronald McDonald Funeral Home in Marienville. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, with Rev. Daniel Richter, pastor of the Marienville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in North Forest Cemetery, Marienville. Sara "Hogg" Rea, 90, of Clintonville, died at 3:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007, at the Orchard Manor in Grove City, after a brief illness. Born on May 11, 1917, in Slippery Rock Township, Butler County, she was the daughter of W. Frederick Hogg and Caroline Renick Hogg. She graduated from the Slippery Rock High School. On Feb. 14, 1936, she married to R. Virgil Rea, who preceded her in death on Oct 13, 1997. A devoted housewife and mother, she enjoyed her family and grandchildren along with quilting, crocheting, afghan and needle work. Flower gardens and gardening was an enjoyment to Mrs. Rea. She and husband enjoyed traveling throughout the continental United States and while traveling enjoyed reading. Mrs. Rae had lived in Clintonville for the past 30 years and had resided in Cranberry Township before that. Mrs. Rea was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church, Clintonville, and was formerly a member of the Cranberry Methodist Church in Cranberry. As a member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Clintonville, she was active with the Baird Simcox Missionary, a member of the Clintonville A.A.R.P. and the Scrubgrass Homemakers at Lisbon. Mrs. Rea is survived by three sons, Robert J. Rea of Ridgway, Fred M. Rea and wife Ester of Butler, and David A. Rea and wife Christine of Oil City; eight grandchildren; and 19 grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Robert T. Hogg of Murrieta, Calif. and Albert W. Hogg of Slippery Rock. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Arthur D., Clifford E., DeWitt F., Charles and James Hogg. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton St., Clintonville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Anthony Catullo, pastor of the Union Presbyterian Church, presiding. Roy Rankin, age 63, of New Bethlehem, Porter Township, died Saturday morning, Aug. 18, 2007, at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born Aug. 15, 1944, in Pittsburgh , he was a son of the late Russell L. and Helen Remaley Rankin. On May 7, 1965, he married Carol Henry, who survives. Mr. Rankin was Construction Superintendent for Palo Excavating, Inc. of Clarion and owned and operated his own farm. He attended the Leatherwood Church, was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 66 and the Loyal Order of Moose in New Bethlehem. He enjoyed raising Scottish Highland cattle. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Rob Rankin and his wife, Jen, of New Bethlehem; a daughter, Martina L. Hornberger and her husband, Jeff, of New Bethlehem; three grandchildren, Breanna Hornberger, Korbin Hornberger and MacKenna Rankin, all of New Bethlehem; one step-granddaughter, Nicole Schrecengost, of New Bethlehem; a brother, William Rankin of Sligo; three sisters, Donna Stuart and her husband, Tom, of Norwood, Judy Lewis and her husband, Rayburn, of Mosinie, Wis., Emma Jayne Wiant and her husband, Larry, of Glouchester, Va.; 15 nieces and nephews; 22 great nieces and nephews; and one great-great niece. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Rupert Funeral Home in New Bethlehem. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Moore and Rev. Doug Henry co-officiating. Interment will follow at the Squirrel Hill Cemetery in Porter Township, Clarion County . Marcella R. Simpson Marcella R. Simpson, 81, of Wood Street, Clarion, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007, in her home. The Goble Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
