Wice, 993 Patchel Run Road, Franklin Glenn A. "Boots" Mealy, services set Marie Kathryn McEwen Marie Kathryn McEwen, 93, of Colorado Springs , Colo., formerly of New Bethlehem, died Thursday morning, Aug. 30, 2007, in Colorado Springs. The Rupert Funeral Home of New Bethlehem is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Saturday in The Derrick. Albertus Abel "Al" Paules, 77, of Airport Road, Emlenton, Richland Township, Venango County, died at 5:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, in his home following a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 26, 1929, in Columbia, Lancaster County, he was the son of Frank and Mary Elizabeth Abel Paules. Mr. Paules was a graduate of Wrightsville High School and Penn State University where he earned his bachelor's of science degree in education and earned his master's degree in education from Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y. He was a United States Army veteran. Mr. Paules taught history for many years at Valley Central High School in Montgomery, N.Y. He served as Orange County Commissioner in Orange County, N.Y., where he was involved in Democratic party politics. Mr. Paules was a member of the Emlenton Presbyterian Church and served the church as an ordained elder. He also was a member of the Emlenton Rod and Gun Club, the Clarion Rod and Gun Club and the Wrightsville American Legion. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Theresa Cashin Paules, and his second wife, June Mary Youngberg Paules. Surviving are a daughter, Therese Bolger of Acme; a stepson, Don Whitebird of Emlenton; a sister, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Lighty of Wrightsville; four grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wives, Mr. Paules was preceded in death by a grandchild and a nephew. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Emlenton Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lori Danielson, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Zion Union Cemetery, Richland Township, Venango County. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emlenton Presbyterian Church, P.O. William Joseph Ricker, 63, of Stephano Street, Clarion, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, in the Golden Living Center, Clarion. Born Oct. 2, 1943, in Lansford, Schuylkill County, he was the son of Joseph Paul Ricker, who died Nov 11, 2001, and Nellie Ann DeFebbo Ricker, who survives in Beaver. Mr. Ricker was a 1960 graduate of Beaver Senior High School and a 1970 graduate of Geneva College. He served in the U.S. Navy as a petty officer from 1962 to 1966. Mr. Ricker worked as a sales consultant for Bankers Life for 10 years, then Ricker & Associate Insurance Services for 14 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion, the Parker VFW and the Clarion Masonic Lodge No.277. Mr. Ricker enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. He was married July 16, 1989, to Phyllis L. Henry, who survives, along with his mother. Also surviving are three brothers, Terry Ricker and wife, Arlene, of Canonsburg, Denny Ricker of Florida and Barry Ricker and wife, Patricia, of Columbiana, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Brenda Haws and husband, Greg, of Coatesville and Terri Bauer of Clarion; two stepgrandchildren, Michael and Julie Guntrum; two step-great-grandchildren, Madison Matters and Colin Guntrum; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Ricker was preceded in death by his father. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church, Clarion, with the Rev. Deryl Larsen officiating. Interment will follow in the Strattanville Cemetery. Elizabeth 'Betty' Sheakley Elizabeth "Betty" Sheakley, 87, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, formerly of Walnut Street, Emlenton, died late Wednesday evening, Aug. 29, 2007, in the home of her daughter in Rio Rancho. The Hile Funeral Home Inc. of 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Saturday in The Derrick. Martha J. Wice, 79, of 993 Patchel Run Road, Franklin, died at 10:55 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born Oct. 21, 1927, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Frank B. and Adah Heffernan Sutley. Mrs. Wice was retired from General Manifold, Franklin, where she worked as a press operator. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she sang in choir and cooked for church dinners. She also was treasurer of the Rocky Grove RFM Sunday School Class. Mrs. Wice was an active and life member of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 476. She enjoyed gardening and was a very helpful person. Mrs. Wice was married Nov. 26, 1953, to Henry W. Wice, who preceded her in death. Surviving are two sisters, Genevieve Weaver and Wanda Anderson, both of Franklin; three sisters-in-law, Wilma Sutley of Franklin, Jane Wolcott and husband, Robert, of Tamaqua and Nellie Tenney of Sandy Lake; her companion, Francis Bean Sr. of Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Wice was preceded in death by a brother, James B. Sutley; and four sisters, Dora Banister, Beverly Clare Sutley, Freda Weaver and Marguerite Mott. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home Inc., 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Edmond Gresick, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church of Rocky Grove, officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or to the VNA Foundation. "Boots" Mealy, 71, of Tionesta RD 1, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Christ Fellowship Church, 2305 Old State Road, west of Venus. Mr. Mealy, a resident of the Wolf's Corners area all of his life, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, in his home.
