Villar, getting it right Melva Kerstetter Bowie Melva Kerstetter Bowie, of 125 Wyllis St., Oil City, died at 7:50 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2007, at the Oil City Presbyterian Home. Born in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Winnie Boyle Kerstetter. Mrs. Bowie retired after many years as a registered nurse at the Oil City Hospital. She was a member of St. Stephen Church. Mrs. Bowie's interests included golfing, playing bridge and reading. She was married Nov. 4, 1950, to Paul T. Bowie, who survives. Survivors also include three daughters, Karen Towers and her husband, Freddie, of Linkwood, Md., Paula J. Rivara and her husband, John, of Shanghai, China, and Tampa, Fla., and Barbara R. Montante and her husband, Andrew, of Williamsville N.Y.; five grandchildren, Erin Harley and her husband, Peter, of Norfolk, Va., Allison Underwood and her husband, Tim, of Medford, Ore., W. Randolph Collins Jr. of Charlottesville, N.C., Natalie Rivara of Tampa, Fla., and Paul Montante of Williamsville, N.Y. Also surviving are a brother, Frank Kerstetter and his wife, Phyllis, of Hampton Mass.; a sister, Rose Wachtler and husband, Rudy, of Surprise Ariz.; and a dear friend, Mary Rickman, of Gaithersburg, Md. Fento, 69, of Oil City, brother of Barbara Pleger of Oil City, died at 12:45 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2007. David L. Lesher, 57, of Kittanning, formerly of Pleasantville, died Friday, June 22, 2007 at Titusville Area Hospital. Born Sept. 22, 1949, in New Castle, he was a son of the late William and Esther Simon Lesher. He was previously married to Diane Carter. Mr Lesher was a graduate of the New Wilmington High School and attended Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, W.Va. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, having served with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Lesher had been employed as a technical and radiation manager for the past 10 years at Appalachian Well Services, formerly Titan Wireline Services, in Elderton. He was an explosive specialist for the oil and gas industry having completed numerous courses for his certification in radiological safety and training. He was well known in the area for his expertise in his field. He was also owner of the former Pennwell Logging in Pleasantville and currently owned and operated Lesher Oil Company in Reno. Mr. Lesher was a member of the Pennsylvania Petroleum Producers Association. He enjoyed snowmobiling and fishing in Canada and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He served on the board at Penn Lakes Girl Scout Council in Edinboro and was groundskeeper of Birdsall Edey Girl Scout Camp at Warren, Pa. He is survived by two children, Lori L. Lesher-Lisk of Oil City and Daniel L. Lesher and his wife, Kaycee, of Franklin; two grandchildren, Amanda L. Lisk and Ethan M. Lesher; a special friend, Rachel Watson of Tidioute; and two sisters, Berea L. Smith and Prescilla L. Vanderhoof. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas L. Lesher. Andrew Pastilock, 89, of Marienville, died Thursday evening, June 20, 2007, at Snyder Memorial Health Care Center in Marienville. Born March 13, 1918, in Sheffield, he was the son of Peter and Mary Bross Pastilock. He was a veteran of World War II in which he served as staff sergeant and tank commander. Mr. Pastilock built and owned the Bucktail Hotel in Marienville. He retired in 1985 after 60 years of service to the Marienville community. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Marienville. Mr. Pastilock married Deloris Jean Regina in Sheffield, and she preceded him in death Feb. 7, 1965. Surviving are four sons and one daughter: Michael Pastilock of Clarion, Patrick Pastilock of Yardley, John Pastilock of Summerville, Ronald Pastilock of Oil City, and Toni Pastilock of Syracuse, N.Y. Also surviving is his companion, Mary Lou Sharrow of Marienville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, David Lee Pastilock. Christian 'Chris' J. Rastetter Christian "Chris" J. Rastetter, 84, of Shaler Township, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Vincentian Regency Nursing Home in McCand less Township. Born Nov. 11, 1922, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Christian and Elizabeth Frombach Rastetter. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Rastetter was employed for more than 30 years at Graphic Arts Color Corp. as a photoengraver. He was a member of the Millvale VFW and Oil City VFW, and he was a life member of the Pulaski Club and the PNA of Oil City. Although he worked his entire life in Pittsburgh, his true residence was his cottage along the banks of the Allegheny River in Oil City. It was there where for more than 40 years he shared his life with his family and captured the hearts of many fellow "campers." Mr. Rastetter was an avid fisherman and gave new meaning to the word "community" by hosting fish fries, pizza dinners and other parties that were open to anyone and everyone in the valley. The significance of a simple "Yoo-hoo" across the river will be fondly remembered, and hopefully new generations will carry on that tradition. Mr. Rastetter, a.k.a. Rattlesnake, was indeed a true inspiration to all and will surely be missed. Surviving are his children, Ronald of Erie, Tim of Waynesburg, Darryl of Pittsburgh and David of Franklin; and five grandchildren, Tiffany, Tim, Heather, Eric and Dustin Rastetter. Survivors also include two brothers, Frank of Carnegie and Robert of Pittsburgh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Eggers, Anna Grazino and Clara Wagner; and Blanche, his "ex-wife' but eternal soulmate. He and Blanche loved each other deeply, and Mr. Rastetter truly showed how much when she passed away. Private arrangements are through the Herbert R. King Jr. Funeral Home of Allison Park. Ruth Jane 'Jennie' Staup Ruth Jane "Jennie" Staup, 91, of Fourth Street in Utica, died at 3:12 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2007, after a short illness. Born Aug. 4, 1915, in Raymilton, she was a daughter of Frederick Henry and Sara Alice Davis McKean. She attended elementary school in Raymilton and graduated from Sandy Lake High School in 1933. She then graduated from Slippery Rock State College in 1936 and continued her studies at Edinboro State College. Mrs. Staup began her teaching career in 1937 in the Hodge one-room school (between Perrines Corners and Jackson Center) with 55 students in first through eighth grades. She also taught at Hall Shaft School (between Jackson Center and Sandy Lake) and Utica schools. For 25 years, she and her husband, H. Martin "Marty" Staup, owned and operated Staup's Garage in Utica. They were married Oct. 16, 1937, and he preceded her in death June 25, 1975. Mrs. Staup served as tax collector in Utica for many years and was also active for many years with the Utica Volunteer Fire Company's ladies auxiliary. She was of the Protestant faith. She enjoyed family gatherings and cooking for her family and watching baseball, football, golf and NASCAR races. She was very proud to be a lifelong Republican and was a loyal voter. Surviving are three children, Sara Ruth Clark and her husband, Richard, of Utica, Martin S. "Marty" Staup and his wife, Linda, of Oil City, and Marlene J. Montgomery and her husband, Thomas, of Sandy Lake. Survivors also include four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Edith M. Crago of St. Louis, Mo., and Leitha B. McCormick of North Tonawanda, N.Y.; and a brother, Andrew P. McKean of Warren, Ohio. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Martin A. "Marty" Clark; three brothers, Sylvester E. McKean, Harvey F. McKean and Charles E. McKean; and three sisters, Daisy H. Box 83, Utica, 16362. Florence Wilhelm Florence Wilhelm, 88, formerly of Clarion, died Friday, June 22, 2007, at Manor at Penn Village, where she had been a resident for four years. Born April 2, 1917, in Idaho, she was the youngest of 10 children. Mrs. Wilhelm taught at the Clarion-Limestone and Union school districts. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarion. She will be missed by friends and family for her sense of humor and zest for life. She was married to William Wilhelm (a Clarion High School coach), who preceded her in death seven years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Susan McDowell, of Selinsgrove; a son, Chuck Wilhelm, of Albuquerque, N.M.; two grandchildren Kim Smeltz and Jeff Pifer and their spouses, Chuck and Melissa; and four great-grandchildren, Chrissy and Cody Smeltz and Owen and Grant Pifer. Paulette Terrace, Inverness, Fla., formerly of Hendersonville, Worth Township, died at 8:42 a.m. Sunday, June 17, 2007, in Citrus Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born Nov. 7, 1920, in Stoneboro, he was a son of the late Albert B. and Minnie V. Wager Anderson. After retirement, Mr. Anderson and his wife, the former Lois J. Perrine, wintered in Florida and made it their permanent home in 1981. Getting it right - Mary K. Villar Mary K. Villar, 73, of Allegheny Overlook Apartments, Oil City, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, June 20, 2007, upon arrival at UPMC Northwest in Seneca after being stricken earlier while visiting family. Survivors include grandchildren Bill and Nadine Finnefrock, Jessica and Chad McNellie and Matt and Amanda Roy; an aunt, Marian Miller of Rouseville; and a daughter-in-law, Jill Villar of Franklin. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Robert McGinty and a son, John Villar on Aug. 23, 2004.
