"Herk" Staub, Mount Juliet, Tenn., formerly of Marienville Dorothy I. Weaver, 217 E. Central Ave., Titusville Thaddeus G. "Ted" Zawislak, Oil City Edla B. Cochran Edla B. Cochran, 91, of 614 McDonald Drive, Vowinckel, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007, in her home. Born Sept. 12, 1915, in Gilfoyle, she was the daughter of John and Maryette Ishman Jamison. Mrs. Cochran was married to Marion Cochran, who preceded her in death July 28, 1990. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Vince (Nina) Wolbert of Vowinckel; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Cochran was preceded in death by a son, Bob Grubbs; a daughter, Bonnie Hauger; two sisters, Zelda Maze and Eva Jamison; and one grandchild. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Ronald McDonald Funeral Home in Marienville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Boyd Edmundson officiating. Interment will be in Roses Cemetery. Orlando DiStanisloa Orlando DiStanisloa, 81, of 1230 Euclid Ave., Aliquippa, husband of the former Regina Joy Staub of Marienville and brother-in-law of Shirley Staub Shrecengost and husband, Donald, of Marienville, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2007, after an extended illness. Dr. Robert B. Holmes, 84, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Oil City, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007. Born Dec. 6, 1922, in Franklin, he was the son of Richard J. and Sarah E. Holmes. Dr. Holmes spent his childhood years in Franklin schools and along the banks of the Allegheny River. As a young man, he became the Pennsylvania state lure casting champion. He graduated in 1940 from Franklin High School and attended Temple University in Philadelphia. During World War II, he served three years with the Army Medical Corps in the South Pacific. He earned a bachelor's degree in pre-medicine in 1948 from the University of Pittsburgh, achieving high honor. In 1952, he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, achieving a M.D. degree. Dr. Holmes' postgraduate education included a one-year internship at Shadyside Hospital and a three-year residency at E.S. Magee Hospital, both in Pittsburgh. While at Magee, he was a faculty member for the Pittsburgh School of Medicine, serving as a teaching fellow in obstetrics/gynecology. While at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Holmes met Martha M. Braun, a nursing student. They married June 12, 1952, and recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. In July 1956, Dr. Holmes opened his practice in Oil City. He was the first specialist in obstetrics and gynecology in the Venango County area, board certified with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He was a member of the American Medical Association and the National Medical Honorary Society. He spent 30 rewarding years in private practice and delivered more than 5,000 babies before retiring in 1986. Dr. Holmes was a voracious reader and an avid hunter and fly fisherman who traveled to many countries in pursuit of fish and game. His retirement was spent on his farm in Wallaceville, Pa., and in southwestern Florida. Surviving are his wife, Marty; three sons, Daniel of Los Altos, Calif., Bradley and wife, Peggy, of Cypress, Texas, and Richard of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; and three grandchildren, Sarah and Madeline of Cypress, Texas, and Nicholas of Steamboat Springs, Colo. He also is survived by his brother, Richard A. Holmes and wife, Maxine, of Franklin. The family asks that donations be made in Dr. Holmes' memory to UPMC Northwest, 100 Fairfield Drive, Seneca, 16346, or to a charity of one' s choice. Howard J. Staub Howard J. Herk Staub, 73, of 87 East Hill, Mount Juliet, Tenn., husband of the former Dorothy Payne of Marienville and brother of Shirley Staub Shrecengost and husband, Donald, of Marienville, died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2007, in his home after a long struggle with cancer. Dorothy I. Weaver, 82, of 217 E. Central Ave., Titusville, died at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007, in the Titusville Area Hospital . Born April 15, 1925, in Rouseville, she was a daughter of Ralph B. and Myrtle Irwin Weaver. Miss Weaver was a graduate of Oil City High School and attended college in Iowa for eye care. She had worked at Frank Optical in Oil City and for Dr. Harry Kanhofer in Titusville . Miss Weaver enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, reading and history. Surviving are a brother, John E. "Jack" Weaver and wife, Doris, of Oil City; a nephew, Robert Montgomery and wife, Rhonda, and children, Chelsey and Kyle, all of Titusville, who cared for her, and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ellen Mae Montgomery and Jane Toy. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Rynd Farm Cemetery. Thaddeus G. Ted Zawislak, 79, a lifelong resident of Oil City, died at 2:50 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007, in his residence following an extended illness. Born Sept. 12, 1927, in Oil City, he was the son of the late George and Anna Wontroba Zawislak. He attended the Assumption and Oil City schools. Mr. Zawislak was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater, serving from Sept. 27, 1945, to Sept. 22, 1949, in China and post war Japan. He was a retired drill press operator from Oil Well Supply Division of U.S. Steel. Mr. Zawislak was a member of St. Stephen Church. He also belonged to the PNA and the Pulaski and Eagles clubs. He had belonged to the PNA men's softball team and enjoyed watching the sport. Mr. Zawislak was married in July 1958 to the former Margaret Smith, who preceded him in death Nov. 17, 1992. Surviving are one son, Dr. Ted G. Zawislak Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Titusville; four grandchildren, Joshua Young and spouse, Ronee, Laurie Young, Lukas Proper and Scarlett Zawislak; and one great-grandchild, Alexandra Young; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Jack, Joe , Mike, Eddie, Tony and Frank Zawislak; and one sister, Sr. Justine Zawislak, O.F.M. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Reinsel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Stephen Church.
