Born August 10, 1923, in Turtle Creek, she was the daughter of George H. and Mary Laird Henderson. She was a 1942 graduate of Clarion High School. Mrs. Garis was employed at Owens-Illinois Glass Plant in Clarion and she and her husband operated a country general store in Turnip Hole for 24 years. She later was employed at Emlenton Motor Inn and also worked for Blair Auctioneers. She was a member of St. Petersburg United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star at Parker. She was active in St. Petersburg Senior Citizens Center. Mrs. Garis attended many antique auctions and flea markets and was an avid collector of antiques. She was married in Clarion Presbyterian Church August 11, 1945, to William Eugene Garis, Sr., who survives. Also surviving are a son, William Eugene Garis, Jr. and his wife, Chery! l, of Emlenton; a daughter, Yvonne Eileen Murray of Bluefield, WV; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A brother, George Henderson and his wife, Elaine, of Gahanna, OH; one niece; and two nephews also survive her. In addition to her parents, a son, Dennis Scott Garis, who died in September 1978; a grandson, Steven Brent Garis; and a sister, Janet Wallace Hartt, preceded Mrs. Garis in death. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Hile Funeral Home, Inc., 802 Grove St., St. Petersburg. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Myers, pastor of the St. Petersburg United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the St. Petersburg Cemetery.
