McClellan, 141/2 Pearl Ave., Oil City Darrel Davis "Butch" Mitchell, 182 Exley Road, Kennerdell Byron F. Best Byron F. Best, 80, of Cherry Run Road, Rimersburg, died Friday evening, July 16, 2004, at his residence. Born March 15, 1924, in Toby Township, Clarion County, he was the son of John and Florence Foringer Best. Mr. Best was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Pennsylvania. He was the recipient of the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific and the Philippines Liberation Bronze Stars and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. Mr. Best was retired from Pullman-Standard in Butler. He was married July 26, 1946, to the former Mildred Ritchey, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter and her husband, Carol and Alexander Valencia of Carrboro, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Brandon Lewis of Carrboro, N.C., and Misty Lewis of Sligo. He also is survived by four brothers, Claire Best of Strattanville, Loyal Best of Fairmount City, Claude Best of Corsica and Jack Best of Clarion. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Best was preceded in death by four sisters, June Best, Lillian Slaugenhaupt, Goldie Neal and Ruth Potter; and four brothers, Chester Best, Richard Best, Melvin Best and Larry Best. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. today in the Varner Funeral Home of Rimersburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Evans, Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice chaplain, officiating. Interment will be in Lawsonham Cemetery. Klasina Catharina TerVeen Kaiser Klasina Catharina TerVeen Kaiser, 95, of Oil City, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home. Born Nov. 25, 1908, in Groningen, Netherlands, she was the daughter of Klaas and Johanna Hendricka Elting TerVeen. Mrs. Kaiser came to the United States at age 6 from her home in Holland and settled with her family in New York. She gained citizenship Sept. 2, 1926. She worked in California as a nursing assistant in the tuberculosis unit of a veterans hospital. The hospital was destroyed by earthquakes, but she continued to work at temporary locations until her retirement May 4, 1971. Mrs. Kaiser was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Seneca. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening. Surviving are one son, Walter John Kaiser of Oil City; two grandchildren, Walter Mark Kaiser of Templeton and Mrs. Michael (Kalyne) Boyles of Grayslake, Ill.; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah Michele Kaiser of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Matthew Mark Kaiser of Oil City. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kaiser was preceded in death by one brother, John Garret K. TerVeen; and a great-granddaughter, Anna Marie Boyles. McClellan, 90, of 141/2 Pearl Ave., Oil City, died at 10:10 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2004, in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center following an extended illness. Born June 1, 1914, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth Callahan Lytle. She attended the Oil City schools. Mrs. McClellan had worked as a telephone operator and also worked in the kitchen at the Oil City Hospital. She was a member of St. Joseph Church. Mrs. McClellan was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bingo, going to yard sales and crocheting. She was married in 1933 to Glenn L. McClellan, who died July 19, 2002. Surviving are eight children, Betty Fay and husband, Tom, of Titusville, Mary Gertrude Goodrum and husband, Lonnie, Gerald McClellan, Joe McClellan and wife, Jean, and Edward J. McClellan Sr., all of Oil City, Judith Deeter and Chuck Bryan of Dempseytown, and Don McClellan and wife, Ruth, of North Carolina; 51 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. McClellan was preceded in death by two sons, Glenn McClellan Jr. and an infant, Dickey; five sisters, Gertrude Sweeney, Mary Stahlman, Ella Anderson, Genevieve Lytle and Ruth McClouth; two brothers, Bill Lytle and Harry Lytle; and one grandson, Gaylord C. Deeter. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Reinsel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with Msgr. John W. Swoger, pastor of St. Joseph Church, presiding. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Darrel Davis "Butch" Mitchell Darrel Davis "Butch" Mitchell, 51, of 182 Exley Road, Kennerdell, died at 8:05 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004, at his residence. Born Nov. 29, 1952, in Syracuse, N.Y., he was the son of Darrel and Marilyn Blanchard Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell worked as a program specialist at Polk Center. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and trips to Canada, and he enjoyed participating in a long-standing bi-monthly poker club. Mr. Mitchell organized an annual July celebration for friends and family. He was a dedicated Trekkie who met the original cast of "Star Trek." He was an enthusiastic Dungeons and Dragons player who believed in magic. Mr. Mitchell was married July 17, 2004, the day of his death, to the former Margie Raup, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Jay Mitchell and wife, Shannon, of Rocky Grove, Caleb Thomas Mitchell of Rockland and Yolande Thornhill and husband, Brent, of Monterey, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Ethan and Brynna Mitchell of Rocky Grove and Saige Thornhill of Monterey, Calif. He also is survived by two sisters, Linda Sturges and husband, Ken, of Oswego, N.Y., and Cindy Murray and husband of Pennsylvania; and eight nieces and nephews. Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents and his maternal grandparents, Dr. Donavan and Dorothy Blanchard. A memorial potluck picnic will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Mitchell residence in Rockland. Memorials may be made to the Venango County Visiting Nurses Association. The Robert W.
