Richards, 407 Emlenton St., Clintonville Donna Marjorie Dasher Fry, getting it right Martin L. Burgdorfer Martin L. Burgdorfer, 51, of East Sandy Road, Kennerdell, Rockland Township, Venango County, died unexpectedly at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2005, in Rockland Township. Born Feb. 19, 1954, in Oil City, he was the son of Betty Deloe Watson of Rockland and the late Sidney Burgdorfer, and the stepson of the late Gerald Watson, who died Sept. 10, 2004. Mr. Burgdorfer was a 1973 graduate of Cranberry High School. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Burgdorfer enjoyed hunting and working on cars. Surviving are his former wife, Ellen Elaine McVay Burgdorfer, of Polk; four children, Steven W. Burgdorfer and Martin L. Burgdorfer II, both of Kennerdell, Amanda E. Burgdorfer of Polk and Adam N. Burgdorfer of Kennerdell. He also is survived by five brothers, Clyde J. Burgdorfer, Gerald B. Burgdorfer, Clifford E. Burgdorfer, William I. Watson, and Floyd H. Watson, all of Emlenton; three sisters, Rose Kunselman, Mrs. Tim (Mabel I.) Bechtel and Mrs. Shawn (Rita J.) Ison, all of Emlenton; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunt and uncles. In addition to his father and stepfather, he was preceded in death by his grandparents and a sister-in-law, Ruth Burgdorfer. Jean Robinson Byers Jean Robinson Byers, 73, of New Bethlehem, died at 6:15 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2005, in Clarview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, following an illness. Born Nov. 14, 1931, in Parker, she was the daughter of Roy Elno and Florence Elizabeth Silverhorn Watts. She began a career as a clerk in the West Monterey Post Office and was postmaster at the time that office was closed. She later held the position of clerk at Eau Claire, Knox and Harrisville post offices. After her postal work, she was employed at the GNC Store and The Dollar Store in the Clarion Mall. She was of the United Methodist faith. Her great love was spending time with her family. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Sandra) Marsh of Sligo, Mrs. Christopher (Brenda) Runyan of West Sunbury and Mrs. Micah (Marlene) Kepple of Chicora; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She also is survived by one sister, Mrs. Art (Viola) Milford of Clarview Nursing Center, Sligo; two brothers, Richard Watts of Charleston, S.C., and Ernie Watts of Idaho; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles E. Robinson, who died Nov. 25, 1989; three sisters; and one brother. Green, 68, of 245 Bradleytown Road, Cooperstown, died Monday, April 4, 2005, in Sugar Creek Station, Franklin. Born April 19, 1936, in Cooperstown, she was the daughter of Norman S. and Helen Wyant Deeter. Mrs. Green was a cook for the Franklin Club and worked in the meat department at BiLo Supermarket. She loved playing bingo, cards, motorcycle riding, hunting and going to the dog track. Mrs. Green was married Jan. 17, 1953, to Lee Triber "Popeye" Green, who died March 23, 2002. Surviving are a son, Thomas L. Green Sr. of Franklin; and three grandchildren, Thomas L. Green Jr. and Norman E. Green, both of Franklin, and Brandy L. Williams and husband, Michael, of Cooperstown. She also is survived by a brother, William M. Deeter and wife, Elsa, of California; three sisters, Jacqueline R. Burk, Lois L. Reed and husband, Gerald, of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Alice K. Bacher and husband, Donald; a brother-in-law, Ted Green and wife, Marie; two sisters-in-law, Mary Miller and husband, John, of Texas, and Gladys Coxson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Green was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman S. Deeter Jr. and Gaylord "Pete" Deeter; and three brothers-in-law, Daniel Burk, Donovan Green and Boyd Coxson. There will be no viewing and no services. Thomas Glenn "Buddy" Martin Thomas Glenn "Buddy" Martin, 19, of Putneyville, New Bethlehem RD 1, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a motor vehicle accident Sunday evening in the Putneyville area. Born April 15, 1985, in Brookville, he was the son of Cindy L. Gruver Martin of Hawthorn and Thomas W. Martin. He was a laborer at Saint Charles Brick Plant in Saint Charles. Surviving are two sisters, Heather Martin of Mayport and Samantha Orf of Hawthorn; a niece, Alexis King, and a nephew, Kayden King; his maternal grandmother, Eleanor Gruver of Eddyville; his fiancee, Melinda Fox of Putneyville; and aunts and uncles. Julie Lewella Matthews Julie Lewalla Matthews, 90, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-Oil City, mother of Sandra Kay Bay of Oil City, died at 8:35 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2005, in the healthcare facility. William A. McCracken Jr. William A. McCracken Jr., 72, of Cochranton, died Sunday, April 3, 2005. Prior to his retirement, Mr. McCracken was employed for more than 30 years by Equitable Gas Co. His wife, Patricia J. (Thiry) McCracken, survives. Also surviving are two sons, William A. McCracken and Dan P. Richards, 81, of 407 Emlenton St., Clintonville, died at 3:15 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2005, at his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Richards was a lifelong resident of Clintonville and was born Sept. 6, 1923, to Jesse William Richards and Harriet Lovell McConnell Richards. He attended the elementary school in Clintonville and graduated in 1943 from Clintonville High School where he was active with the alumni association, serving as a past president. Mr. Richards worked in his early life with his father in the oil and gas fields in Venango County. His family also owned a skating rink in Clintonville and he worked with his brothers giving skating lessons on the weekends. He started work in 1942 at Cooper-Energies in Grove City and was called to the service in 1943, serving with the U.S. Army. He returned to Cooper-Energies, retiring there Jan. 31, 1986, after 30 years of service working as a machinist and finally as a time planner. Mr. Richards was a veteran of World War II, serving under Dwight D. Eisenhower in the U.S. Army in the European Theater with the Old Fifth Division from July 30, 1943, to March 17, 1946. He participated in the invasion of Normandy. After serving his country, he later returned to attend the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1955 and graduated in 1956 and became a licensed funeral director. He worked for the Carl Armstrong Funeral Home, Wayne Womer Funeral Home, Charles L. Donavan Funeral Home and Theodore Kuhns Funeral Home, all of Clintonville, and presently was working for the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home in Clintonville, rounding out nearly 50 years in the funeral profession. Mr. Richards was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Clintonville where he had been a trustee and also served on the administrative board for a number of years. He also had been an usher, assistant superintendent and a Sunday school teacher. Within the church, he served for a number of years as secretary on the Clintonville Methodist Cemetery Board. In prior years, he had been an active member of the Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department, along with serving on the Clintonville Borough Council and the Water and Sewer Authority for a number of years. Mr. Richards was a former member of the AARP Chapter No. 2562 in Clintonville. He currently was active with the Meals-Hoffman Post No. 912 of the American Legion in Clintonville, having been a member since 1944. He also belonged to the Parker City-Allegheny Valley Lodge No. 551 of Parker, the Lodge of Perfection in Oil City and the New Castle Consistory. Along with his many activities, Mr. Richards enjoyed driving school bus for 28 years for Moore's Bus Service of Clintonville for the Victory Joint School District, now the Franklin Area School District. Mr. Richards was married Aug. 5, 1950, to Mary Kathryn Hooks, who died Oct. 2, 1995. Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Pamela K. and Terrance A. Stewart and Marcia E. and Robert L. Wick, all of Clintonville; and three grandsons, Joshua R. Stewart, Brian T. Wick and Justin A. Wick, all of Clintonville. He also is survived by one sister, Mrs. Kenneth O. (Velma M.) Dick of Clintonville. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Richards was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Josephine Richards and an infant, Ella Grace Richards; and three brothers, Clarence J. Richards, Wilbur W. Richards and Harold E. Richards. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Larry E.
