Rhoades, getting it right Chandler Haynes Gladys Chandler Haynes, 65, of Taft, Calif., formerly of Marienville and Lake Lucy, mother of Walter "Duke" Chandler of Pleasantville and Gloria Watkins of Vowinckel, died Monday, April 25, 2005, in Los Angeles, Calif. Benjamain Hess "Benny" Heeter Benjamin Hess "Benny" Heeter, 62, of Turkey City, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at the home of his special friend, Betty McKee in Elderton. Born July 28, 1942, in Oil City, he was the son of the late D.M. Heeter and Rebecca Hess Heeter of Callensburg. Mr. Heeter was a union carpenter for 35 years with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointers Local No. 2274 of Pittsburgh. More recently, he was a principle with his son, Brad, in establishing and operating Heeter Enterprises in Knox. Mr. Heeter attended the Church of God of Prophecy near Rimersburg. He enjoyed working, fishing and driving his 1955 Chevrolet. Surviving are his mother of Callensburg; two sons by his first marriage, Brad Heeter and wife, Jenny, of Lamartine and their sons, Calen, Jacob and Ethan, and Brian Heeter and wife, Michelle, and their son, Colton, of Emlenton RD. Also surviving are two children by another marriage, Ashley Heeter and Austin Heeter of Emlenton. He also is survived by a brother, Timothy Heeter and wife Cheri, of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Mr. Heeter was preceded in death by a brother, D. Samuel Heeter in 1990, and an infant son, Matthew Heeter. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the David C. McEntire Funeral Home, 504 E. Penn St., Knox. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Leonard Goughler, pastor of the New Athens Church of God of Prophecy near Rimersburg, officiating. Interment will follow in the Callensburg Cemetery. Harold Wayne Lehner Harold Wayne Lehner, 79, of Reigle School Road, Rimersburg, formerly of Kittanning, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, in St. John West Shore Hospital, Westlake, Ohio, following an illness. Born Aug. 17, 1925, in Kittanning, he was the son of the late William Scott and Nancy McGee Lehner. Following the death of his mother, he was raised by his father and stepmother, Lois Grafton Lehner. He was a 1942 graduate of Kittanning High School. Following graduation, Mr. Lehner enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 20 years of active duty and 10 years with the Fleet Reserve. During his naval career spanning from 1942 until his retirement in 1972, he served aboard a battle ship, two heavy cruisers, an aircraft carrier and three destroyers. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Lehner was employed for five years at the Pentagon as a staff member of the Chief of Naval Operations. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Lehner first was married to Ethel Lehner, who died March 20, 1968. He then married Philys Canady and she died July 5, 1995. Surviving are a cousin, Jean George and husband, Thomas, of Rimersburg; a stepdaughter and husband, Sharon and Richard Focht of Elyria, Ohio; and one brother Joseph Paul Lehner of Carlisle. In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Eugene Lehner and an infant, Melvin Lehner. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the Richard D. Albert Glen Miles Albert Glen Miles, 76, of East Brady, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, in Butler Memorial Hospital. Born Feb. 12, 1929, in Meadville, he was the son of Samuel R. and Fannie D. Sherman Miles. He was a 1947 graduate of East Brady High School. Mr. Miles retired in 1994 from Ron Seidle Chevrolet, Clarion, where he was the body shop foreman for 35 years. He also worked for Shriver Bus Co. in Sugarcreek Township as a school bus driver for the Armstrong School District. Mr. Miles was a member of the East Brady United Methodist Church where he served as an usher and trustee. He also was a member of the East Brady Volunteer Fire Co. for 56 years and was one of the founding members of the East Brady Area Ambulance Service, serving as a driver for 28 years. Mr. Miles was an avid bowler and enjoyed hunting and all types of sports. He was married Feb. 23, 1951, to Bertha Jean "BJ" Hogan, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Judy A. Dibble and Nancy J. Miles, both of Butler; three grandsons, Preston L. Dibble and his fiancee, Mary Fredlake of Morristown, N.J., Justin W. Dibble of Erie and Joshua Glen Dibble serving with the U.S. Navy in San Diego, Calif. He also is survived by a brother, David Gene Miles and wife, Joan, of East Brady and nieces and nephews. Mr. Miles was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Charles B. "Skip" Minich Jr., 56, of Carnegie, formerly of Oil City, husband of the former Jean Sandrock of Oil City and brother of Mrs. Joseph (Lillian Ann) Drozdo of Seneca and Robert Minich and wife, Wanda, of Hadley, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, in Forbes Hospice, Pittsburgh. Brian E. Stallsmith Brian E. Stallsmith, 44, of 206 Capitol Hill Road, Hillsboro, died Sunday morning, April 24, 2005, at his residence. Born Aug. 27, 1960, in Meadville, he was the son of Ralph Ernest and Gladys Fisher Stallsmith. He was a 1979 graduate of Oil City High School and attended Messiah College near Carlisle, graduating with a degree in environmental science. Mr. Stallsmith was a truck driver for Pennsey Supply Co. of Harrisburg. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Stallsmith enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on his car. Surviving are his father, Ralph E. Stallsmith of Franklin; one brother, Bruce A. Stallsmith of Franklin; two sisters, Carole A. Hamilton of Geneva, N.Y., and Deborah J. Ohler of Mount Airy, Md.; two nieces, Jennifer Underwood of Brookfield, Ohio, and Amy Groger of Cochranton and several cousins, aunts and uncles. Interment will be in Bell Cemetery, Mercer County. James H. Settlemire Jr. James H. Settlemire Jr., 76, of Oil City, died at 11:39 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born April 5, 1929, in Oil City, he was the son of James H. Settlemire Sr. and Gertrude Snyder Settlemire. Mr. Settlemire served in the U.S. Army, trained at Fort Belvoir, Va., and served in Korea and Okinawa. He received the Army Occupational Medal. He was retired from Oilwell Supply where he worked as a pipe fitter. Mr. Settlemire was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He also belonged to the VFW, Pulaski Club and the Oil City Lodge No. 363, F. & A.M. Mr. Settlemire enjoyed camping, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughters. He was married in Plumer Dec. 27, 1952, to the former Shirley M. Burt, who survives. Also surviving are two sons and their wives, James E. and Patricia Settlemire of Oil City and Michael L. and Paula Settlemire of Seneca; two daughters and their husbands, Cathy D. and Harold Silvis and Kimberly A. and William Schettler, all of Ahrensville; nine grandchildren, Tracey Millin of Venus, Amanda Settlemire and Benjamin Rutherford, both of Oil City, Kristi Settlemire, Matthew Settlemire and Sara Settlemire, all of Seneca, Billy Schettler of Ahrensville, Jaime Settlemire of Oil City and Wesley Schettler of Ahrensville; and two great-granddaughters, Briann Millin and Madison Millin, both of Venus. He also is survived by two sisters, Joan Pokay of Oil City and Jane Lehnortt of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother.
