Hays, Florence, S.C., formerly of Oil City Melvin L. "Buzzy" Huffman, Leeper Esther Lee Kasbee, Fredonia Andrew "Joe" Schaeffer, Michigan City, Ind., formerly of Rocky Grove Eugene E. "Geno" Sonoski, getting it right Olga R. Straub, getting it right James Wesley "West" Dishner James Wesley "West" Deshner, 79, formerly of 116 W. Sixth St., Oil City, died at 12:47 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2005, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home where he had resided. Born Sept. 25, 1925, in Lickingville, he was the son of John W. and Myrtle Davis Deshner. Mr. Deshner had served as a private in the Army during World War II. He attended the Lickingville School. Mr. Deshner had lived in the Oil City area most of his life. He had worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Oil Well Supply and the Skat Service Station and last worked as a bricklayer at Electralloy, retiring in September 1989. Mr. Deshner was a member of the Oil City Salvation Army He was an avid card player and horseshoe player. Mr. Deshner was married June 21, 1952, to Ruth A. Cann, who survives in Oil City. Also surviving are four daughters, Karen S. Deshner and Joyce M. Deshner, both of Oil City, Sandra L. Messina of Franklin and Michelle L. Aites of Rouseville; one son, James W. Deshner Jr. of Rouseville; eight grandchildren, David W. Deshner of Cresson, Dennis S. Shreffler of Franklin, Amber L. Dille of Seneca, Nicholas M. Aites, Kristen R. Aites, Nathan B. Deshner and Heather A. Deshner, all of Rouseville, and Travis A. Deshner of Prospect; and one great-granddaughter, Katelyn E. Dille of Seneca. He also is survived by one sister, Pearl Bowen of Beaver. In addition to his parents, Mr. Deshner was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael L. Deshner; a sister, Luella Sliker; and three brothers, Alvie Dashner, Delbert Deshner and Lewis R. Deshner. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. today in the Hutchinson Funeral Home, 201 Bissell Ave., Oil City. Funeral services will be held at 4:15 p.m. today in the funeral home with Major James E. Foley of the Oil City Salvation Army, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hutchinson Funeral Home to help defray the cost of funeral expenses. Robert F. Glosser Robert F. Glosser, 81, formerly of Tylersburg and brother of Marjorie Wolbert of Lucinda, died Friday, April 15, 2005, in Franklinville, N.Y. Lois A. Hays Lois A. Hays, 92, of Florence, S.C., formerly of Oil City, widow of Dr. Clinton Hays, died Monday, April 18, 2005, in Florence. Born May 29, 1912, in Orrville, Ohio, she was the daughter of Harry L. and Bessie Grace Coffey. She was a 1931 graduate of Orrville High School and a 1935 graduate of Uniontown School of Nursing in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Hays was employed as a nurse at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, where she met and married Dr. Clinton Anderson Hays Sr. in 1938. They moved to Oil City in 1941. Dr. Hays is deceased. While living in Oil City, she was active in the YWCA, the Belles Lettres Club, the Oil City Garden Club and the Winnifred Tonkin Needlework Guild and was a past president of the Schubert Musical and Literary Club. Mrs. Hays was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oil City. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her friends. Mrs. Hays moved in 1993 to Florence, S.C., where she remained active doing volunteer work for the intensive care unit of the Florence General Hospital and the Bruce Hospital Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of the Florence Baptist Temple where she attended the senior saints' class. Surviving are two daughters, Marcia Sottiaux of Seneca and Carole Williams and husband, Jim, of Florence, S.C.; four granddaughters; and 12 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a sister, Marian Tullos of Porterfield, Calif. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hays was preceded in death by a son, Clinton Anderson Hays Jr.; and a brother, H. Warren Coffey. Funeral services are in charge of the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home in Florence, S.C., and the Reinsel Funeral Home in Oil City. Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery in Oil City at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church in Oil City with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Filer, pastor, presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Oil City; the Florence Baptist Temple, 2308 S. Irby St., Florence, S.C., 29504; or to the Frank Monroe Ministerial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 12809, Florence, S.C., 29504. Melvin L. 'Buzzy' Huffman Melvin L. "Buzzy" Huffman, 78, of Leeper, Farmington Township, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, in UPMC Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Nov. 15, 1926, in Davis, W.Va., he was the son of Melvin and Leah Mae Burger Huffman. Mr. Huffman was a heavy equipment operator, working for PennDOT. He was married Dec. 15, 1973, to Debra Ann McKown, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Larry Huffman of Butler; two daughters, Cathy Stewart and Beverly Huffman of Butler County; and four grandsons. He also is survived by one brother, Frank Huffman of Pittsburgh; one sister, Earlene Sampson of Butler; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Huffman was preceded in death by one brother, Norman Huffman. There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be private. Interment will be in the Dehner Cemetery. The Goble Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of arrangements. Esther Lee Kasbee Esther Lee Kasbee, 67, of 12 Liberty St., Fredonia, died at 1:50 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2005, at her residence following a period of failing health. Born Sept. 4, 1937, in Sharpsville, she was the daughter of Albert and Delsie McNeish Buckley. Mrs. Kasbee was a member of the Fredonia United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Kasbee was married May 25, 1956, to Paul V. Kasbee, who survives. They were married for 48 years. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Paul Jeffrey Kasbee and wife, Sue, of Franklin; a daughter, Debra Hartley and husband, Michael, of Clarks Mills; and four grandchildren, Keisha Hartley of Greenville, Marshal Hartley and Makayla Hartley, both of Clarks Mills, and Jerry Irvin of Oil City. She also is survived by a sister, Ethel Higbee and husband, James, of Rochester, N.Y.; and a brother, James Buckley and wife, Bertha, of Hendersonville. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kasbee was preceded in death by an infant son, Rodney Lee Kasbee; a sister, Evelyn Graham; and two brothers, George Buckley and John Buckley. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home, 169 Second St., Fredonia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Andrew 'Joe' Schaeffer Andrew "Joe" Schaeffer, 83, of Michigan City, Ind., a former resident of Rocky Grove, died Monday, April 18, 2005, in the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, Ind. Born Jan. 31, 1922, in Franklin, he was the son of Andrew J. and Hazel L. Schultz Schaeffer. He served in the Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945 and was stationed in Guam during World War II. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Before retiring, Mr. Schaeffer had been a garage foreman and master mechanic with Tonn & Blank for 36 years. He was a member of the VFW. Mr. Schaeffer enjoyed growing roses and tomatoes, was an avid fisherman and loved nature and going to garage sales. He was married in Winchester, Va., May 30, 1942, to the former Estella Henderson, who survives. She also was formerly of Rocky Grove. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Andy Schaeffer and wife, Marsha, of Whitewater, Colo.; four daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Ted Herrbach and Connie and Dave Clow, all of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Lenore and Jack Gregory of Westville, Ind., and Pam and Ken Wilke of Knox, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, Toni, Todd, Trisha, Seth, Hannah, Stephanie, David, Sara, Laura, Brittani and Tyler; and eight great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a brother and his wife, Bud and Alice Schaeffer of Colorado Springs, Colo; and a sister, Beryl Brown of Penfield, N.Y. In addition to his parents, Mr. Schaeffer was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Susan Gregory; and a sister, Jean Maloney. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St., Michigan City, Ind. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. State Road, Seneca, formerly of 14 Gateway Drive, Oil City, died unexpectedly late Friday evening, April 15, 2005, at his home. He attended St. Joseph Grade School and was a 1949 graduate of St. Joseph High School. Getting it right Olga R. Straub: Olga R. Straub, 84, of 190 S. Sycamore St., Newtown, a Clarion County native, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2005. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Elliott.
