Lightner, York Marilyn Lee McCoy, Rural Valley William Wayne Nichols, Tuscaloosa, Ala., formerly of Franklin Betty E. Rhodes, Clarion Joanne M. Scott, Pittsfield RR 2, formerly of Franklin Kirsten J. Wierbinski, 721 12th St., Franklin Lucille W. Bauer Lucille W. Bauer, 85, of Clarkston, Mich., formerly of Clarion and St. Louis, Mo., died Friday, April 22, 2005. Her husband, Norman Bauer, preceded her in death along with a son, Kurt Bauer. Surviving are her children, Norman Bauer, Roger Bauer and Jill Auten and husband, Dan; and a granddaughter, Stacey Auten. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday in the Jefferson-Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. Leola Mae Chapman Leola Mae Chapman, 78, of 28 Heavens Way, Marshburg, died Monday, April 25, 2005, in Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford. Born Sept. 6, 1926, in Cyclone, she was the daughter of David and Ethelyn Leola Newton Pytcher. Mrs. Chapman was a lifetime resident of the area and was a 1944 graduate of Bradford High School. She worked for the FBI in Washington during World War II, She also worked at J.C. Penney and Jo-Ann Fabric Shop and was owner-operator of Mae's Fabric Shop, all in the Bradford area. Mrs. Chapman was married in Gifford Nov. 18, 1944, to John N. Chapman, who died April 12, 1996. Surviving are three daughters, Susan Morgan of Youngstown, Ohio, Judy Wolcott and husband, Norm, of Gasport, N.Y., and Karen Talboo and husband, Chuck, of Coopersberg; four sons, John Chapman Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Brockport, Dan Chapman and wife, Mary, of Rockland, Jeffrey Chapman and wife, Edith, of King of Prussia and Jim Chapman of Marshburg; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She also is survived by two sisters, Mary Lou Ross and husband, Mike, of Lewis Run and Jean Pinci of Shippensburg; two brothers, the Rev. Richard Pytcher and wife, Freda, of Lafayette and David Pytcher and wife, Irene, of Ithaca, N.Y., several nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Helen Schillinger. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Colleen Morgan. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Home, 33 South Ave., Bradford. Funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Pytcher, pastor of the Lafayette Evangelical Church and brother of the deceased, officiating. Interment will be in McKean Memorial Park in Lafayette. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Jean R. Ligghtner Jean R. Lightner, 88, of York, died at 12:40 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2005, in Misericordia Convalescent Home, York. Born July 1, 1916, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, she was the daughter of Horace H. and Mary J. Fletcher Miller. She was a 1934 graduate of Cranberry High School. Mrs. Lightner retired as a nursing assistant from the York Lutheran Retirement Village. She was a former employee of the Record Club of America and South Pine Nightwear. She was a member of the Messiah United Methodist Church in York and was a former member of the York Chapter of the AARP. Her husband, William C. Lightner, preceded her in death. Surviving are two sons and their wives, Karl W. and Lois Lightner and Kevin W. and Robin Lightner, all of York; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a brother, Glenn Miller of Meadville; and a sister, Mary June Coast of Franklin. Viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. today in the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. The funeral home web address is www.etzweiler.com. Marilyn Lee McCoy Marilyn Lee McCoy, 62, of Rural Valley, died Monday, April 25, 2005, in Alleghany General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Feb. 13, 1943, in Strattanville, she was the daughter of Atwood and Lois Parsons. Mrs. McCoy was employed as a teacher in the New Castle School District and was a substitute teacher in the Armstrong School District. She was a member of the Rural Valley Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her husband, Terry McCoy; three children and their spouses, John and Catherine McCoy of Sterling, Va., Jeffrey and Susan McCoy of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Jennifer and William Cogley of Kittanning; and eight grandchildren. She also is survived by two brothers, Luman Parsons of Elyna, Ohio, and John D. Parsons of West Middlesex; and two sisters, Gail Froebel of South Elgin, Ill., and Teresa McIlhattan of Knox. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, George "Bud" Parsons. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Carson/Boyer Funeral Home in Rural Valley. William Wayne Nichols William Wayne Nichols, 85, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., formerly of Franklin, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, in Hospice of West Alabama Inpatient Care, Tuscaloosa. He was born in Franklin, the son of David F. and Bertha E. Brown Nichols. Mr. Nichols served two years in the European Theater during World War II. He was an engineering graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and Scabbard and Blade honorary fraternity. Mr. Nichols was employed by B.F. Goodrich Tire Co. for 38 years, working in Akron, Ohio, and Tuscaloosa. He was a devout member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa where he served as children's Sunday school teacher and also as an elder. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Virginia Marwood Nichols; a sister-in-law, Phyllis M. Krepp of Northport, Ala.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gail and Thelma Marwood of Franklin; one niece, Sue Hilton of Franklin; and three nephews, Steven Marwood and wife, Rita, of Linesville, D. James Krepp of Northport, Ala., and David Krepp and wife, Donna, of Tuscaloosa. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Ellen Nichols; and a son, Richard Arnold Nichols. Services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 15, in the Covenant Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Finley C. Patton officiating. Interment followed in Memorial Hill Gardens. Betty E. Rhoades Betty E. Rhodes, 74, of Stephano Strait, Clarion, died Monday, April 25, 2005, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born Nov. 8, 1930, in Piney Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of F. Walter and Adda Stopp Finnefrock. Mrs. Rhodes was a secretary for 17 years for the Clarion Area School District and also was secretary to the United Methodist Administrative Board. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clarion. Mrs. Rhodes enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved listening to them play the piano and attending her grandson's baseball games. She first was married in 1950 to Donald C. Newell Jr., who died in 1966. She then was married Oct. 10, 1987, to Paul Rhodes, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Kimberly Maxwell and husband, Bret, of Clarion; one stepdaughter, Sharon Kavanagh of Maryland; three grandchildren, Brooke, Evan and Tiffany Maxwell; and two stepgrandchildren, Joseph and Andrew Kavanagh. She also is survived by two brothers, Robert Finnefrock and wife, Louise, of Clarion and Jay Finnefrock of Sligo; and two sisters, Hazel Pavlick of Hermitage and Doris Carungi of Clarion. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Lane Newell; a brother, Edwin Finnefrock; a sister, Mildred Miller; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Finnefrock. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Goble Funeral Home, 330 Wood St., Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the First United Methodist Church in Clarion with the Rev. Arnold A. Rhodes and Pastor David Selleck officiating. Scott, 68, of Sanford Road, Pittsfield RR 2, formerly of Franklin, died Monday evening, April 25, 2005, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca, following an extended illness. Born Dec. 16, 1936, in Warren, Pa., she was the daughter of Iilo and Alice Ackley Scott. She has resided in Sanford for past 13 years, moving there from Franklin. Mrs. Scott was a 1954 graduate of Youngsville High School and in 1959 graduated from Clarion Teachers College with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She earned her master's degree from Edinboro University. She was as a first-grade school teacher for 35 years, working at Polk Elementary School and for three years in Utica. Mrs. Scott was a lifelong and very active member of Sanford United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Bible study. She also was a member of Eldred Grange and P.S.E.R.S. Mrs. Scott was an avid photography enthusiast and visited the birth and burial places of all the U.S. presidents. She was a Civil War buff, visiting a majority of the Civil War battlefields. She had traveled to Europe, including East Germany, visiting the Berlin Wall. She visited England, Westminster, Scandanavia, the Vatican and Oberammergae where she saw the Passion Play. She was very active in the lives of her nieces and nephews, taking them on trips and to movies. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. John (Marcy) White of Sanford; two brothers, Jim Scott and wife, Jean, of Garland, and Charlie Scott of Warren, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Lorraine Stover on May 5, 2002. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Hubert-Lewis Funeral Home Inc., 314 N. Kristen Jo Gustafson Wierbinski Kirsten Jo Gustafson Wierbinski, 44, of 721 12th St., Franklin, died unexpectedly Friday, April 22, 2005, in McGee Women's Hospital, Pittsburgh, Born Sept. 27, 1960, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Donald Eugene Gustafson of Livingston, Ala., and Medora "Dodie" Wattsjer Wierbinski of Franklin. She graduated from Franklin High School and shared co-leads in the productions of "Hello Dolly" and "Guys and Dolls" with her lifelong best friend, Lisa Hancox of Franklin. Ms. Wierbinski was a well-known local singer, gifted pianist and artist. She enjoyed music, writing and poetry. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her three children, Shane William Lindsey, Garry DeLong Jr. and Alexandria J. DeLong, all of Franklin; a sister, Kira L. Shirey and husband, Michael, of Franklin; two brothers, Shawn Wattsjer Wierbinski of Franklin and Donald Arthur Gustafson of Oil City; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Gamble officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to music and/or the arts, a charity of one's choice or the Barrow-Civic Theatre, Franklin.
