"Val" Sciarrone, gettiing it right Virginia Irene Callihan Virginia Irene Callihan, 77, of Miola Road, Clarion, died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2005, in Clarion Hospital. Born Nov. 27, 1927, in Miola, she was the daughter of Walter and Lucille McCleary Maxwell. She was a graduate of Miola School and attended Clarion State Teachers College. Mrs. Callihan worked for a number of years for the Clarion Chamber of Commerce and helped plan many Autumn Leaf Festivals. She was a former chairman of the festivals. She also worked from 1962 to 1967 at the Clarion News and then worked in the Clarion office of Venango Newspapers and The Derrick from 1967 until her retirement. Mrs. Callihan was the original writer of the Clarion Chit-Chat. She was very active in the Clarion County Democratic Party. Mrs. Callihan was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Leeper. She enjoyed reading until recent years, flower gardening and spending time with her many friends. Her greatest joy was having her children and grandchildren around her. Mrs. Callihan was married May 1, 1948, to Eugene Callihan, who died Dec. 31, 2000. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. James (Barbara) Miller of Miola, Mrs. Bernard (Kathy) Lahr of Brunswick, Ga., and Mrs. Steele (Debra) Glenn of Bel Air, Md.; one son, David Eugene Callihan Sr. and wife, Cindy, of Leeper; seven grandchildren, Mrs. Mark (Lisa) Sayers of Brockway, Jason Lahr and wife, Crista Hoefle, of South Bend, Ind., Mrs. Edward (Keri) Polnac of Reynoldsville, Mrs. Anthony (Crystal) McWilliams, David Callihan Jr. and Cassandra Callihan, all of Leeper, and Sarah Killion of Bel Air, Md.; and two great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Nicholas McWilliams of Leeper. She also is survived by one sister, Mrs. William (Vera) Schreckengost of Miola; and three brothers, Wayne Maxwell, Archie Maxwell and Richard Maxwell, all of Miola. Cessna Jr., 47, of Knox, died of natural causes at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at his residence. Born Sept. 24, 1957, in Oil City, he was the son of David D. "Curly" Cessna of Knox RD 1 and the late Barbara Peterson Cessna. Mr. Cessna was a chef, having graduated from the Pittsburgh Culinary Institute. He also had owned and operated Cessna's Unique Clothing stores in the Clarion Mall and the Cranberry Mall in Seneca. While in high school, Mr. Cessna worked at Crook's Clothing in Clarion. He enjoyed camping, cooking, antiques and spending time with his daughters and family. Surviving, in addition to his father, are two daughters, Danielle Cessna and Ashley Cessna, both of Pittsburgh; his former wife, Desiree Rhoades of Emlenton; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Peterson of Seneca; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Mr. Cessna was preceded in death by his mother in 2000. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday prior to the service in the David C. McEntire Funeral Home, 504 E. Penn St., Knox. Interment will follow in the Venus Cemetery. Laura H. Cochran Laura H. Cochran, 83, of North Main Street, Knox, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2005, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born Nov. 2, 1921, in Pine City, she was the daughter of John W. and Anna Howe Deitz. She attended Sligo High School. Mrs. Cochran was retired from Glass Containers of Knox where she worked in the office custodial department. She was of the Protestant faith. Mrs. Cochran enjoyed playing bingo with her friends and family, and visiting with her sisters and brother, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was married June 18, 1942, to Clifford C. "Pat" Cochran, who died in May 1993. They were married in Monroe by the Rev. Frank Fischer. Surviving are six sons, Clifford L. Cochran and wife, Florence, Craig A. Cochran, Ricky E. Cochran and wife, Janet, and Dennis J. Cochran and wife, Tina, all of Knox, Ray W. Cochran and wife, Pat, of Newton Falls, Ohio, and Cecil D. Cochran and wife, Sharyn, of Kossuth; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by five sisters, Edna Stefano and Mary Clark, both of Knox, Evelyn Rex of Highland Oaks, Shippenville, Mrs. John (Betty) Wagner of Venus and Ruth Rex of Polk; one brother, Ronald F. Deitz of Bradford; and a special friend, Ida Mae Mays. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cochran was preceded in death by two daughters, Dixie Lee Cochran in 1966 and Linda Fay Cochran in 1967; one grandson; three sisters, Margaret Mae Wagner, Clara Saylor and Ida Deitz; and five brothers, Willis H. Richard Dennis George Richard Dennis George, 57, of Mooresville, N.C., formerly of Franklin, died Oct. 8, 2004, in Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville. Born June 22, 1947, in Portage, Ohio, he was the son of the late Allen Reed and Dorothy Ann Carnes George. He attended schools in Ohio. Mr. George was a technical sales representative for Lincoln Electric Co. in Cleveland, Ohio. Surviving are his wife, Lucy H. George, along with a son, Steven Michael George of Milani, Hawaii; two daughters, Laurie Marie George of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jennifer Lynn George of Concord, N.C.; and three grandchildren. He also is survived by two brothers, David George of Strongsville, Ohio, and Donald George of Ohio; and a sister, Allene Greene of Alabama. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Church of the Nazarene, Pone Lane, Franklin. Visitation will follow the service in the church. Florence G. Goheen Florence G. Goheen, 85, of 82 Sample Road, New Bethlehem, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, in Clarview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Sligo. Born May 27, 1919, in Mahoning Township, Armstrong County, she was the daughter of Charles Fletcher Reddinger and Bessie Pearl Shreckengost Reddinger. Mrs. Goheen was retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Plant in Brookville where she worked as a laborer. She was a member of the First Church of God in New Bethlehem and the Rebekah Lodge of New Bethlehem. Mrs. Goheen enjoyed reading, shopping and jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Goheen was married in 1959 to Dale M. Goheen, who died Aug. 5, 1987. Surviving are two sons and their wives. Jack and Janet Holben and Dale J. and Patty Goheen, all of New Bethlehem; one daughter, Sandy Holben of New Bethlehem; three grandchildren, James Holben, Jacqueline Johnston and Tyler Goheen, all of New Bethlehem; and three great-grandchildren, Liv Holben, Brooke Holben and Austin Johnston. She also is survived by three sisters, Rosetta Griffin and Ruby Allen, both of New Bethlehem, and Cecilia Schaffer of Clarion. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Goheen was preceded in death by an infant son, Milton James Holben; three brothers, Terry, Kenneth and Percy Reddinger; and three sisters, Lois Shick, Jenny Kerr and Ruth Giordani. Himes, 81, of Tampa, Fla., a Clarion County native, died Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005, in Tampa. Born in Licking Township, Clarion County, she was a daughter of Samuel J. and Ollie McCall Heeter. Mrs. Himes moved to Tampa in 1997 after the death of her husband, the Rev. Thomas M. Himes. He died Dec. 13, 1996. The couple lived in Rossiter near Punxsutawney. Mrs. Himes served more than 33 years alongside her husband's ministry at Barton Chapel United Methodist Church in Sprankle Mills, Cloe United Methodist Church, Steffy Chapel United Methodist Church in Rossiter, Covode United Methodist Church and several other United Methodist churches in western Pennsylvania. She was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church in Tampa, Fla., and was known as an excellent example of a wife, mother, friends and Christian. Mrs. Himes was married Jan. 21, 1942, to the Rev. Thomas M. Himes. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Dianne Himes, of Tampa, Fla.; one sister, Evelyn Stewart of North Carolina as well as several local nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Himes was preceded in death by her son, Gary Heeter Himes; six sisters, Margaret Holliday, Elanor Elder, Mabel Wile, Belle Lerch, Almeda Best and Grace Best; and two brothers, Donald S. Heeter and Leonard Heeter. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 23, at Cloe United Methodist Church in Rossiter. Grace Susan Karg Grace Susan Karg, 95, formerly of 6 E. Second St., Oil City, died at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2005, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home. Born April 6, 1910, in Fryburg, she was the daughter of Raymond and Pauline Groner Karg. She was educated in McGinnis School and at St. Michael, Fryburg, and had attended Welch's Business College, Oil City. Miss Karg started to work in the 1930s at Fryburg Motors and from there went to the Oil City Milling Co. to work as a clerk. In 1945, she started work at Continental Can Co. and retired from there in 1971 as an accounts payable clerk. She was a member of St. Stephen Church and the Rosary-Altar Society of the church. Miss Karg belonged to the YWCA, Pennsylvania State Grange and the Oil City Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a volunteer for Oil City Meals on Wheels and the Oil City Hospital Auxiliary. Surviving are one sister, Helen Perrett of Oil City; and seven nieces and nephews, Mark Banner of Oil City, Mike and Cathy Perrett of Rouseville, Lisa and Bill Aaron of Marble, Rita and Tom Scottino of Glenellyn, Ill., Julie and Tom Passarelli of Vandergrift, Barb and Bob Portenier of Waterford and Ray and Karen Weaver of Marble. In addition to her parents, Miss Karg was preceded in death by four sisters, Julia Gorsuch, Agnes Karg, Ruth Weaver and Germaine Banner; and one brother, George "Bill" Karg. Oakes, 78, of 435 Meadow Road, Seneca, died at 3:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2005, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born June 20, 1926, in Mercer, Lake Township, he was the son of Clyde E. and Pauline Nicklin Oakes. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Oakes had been a RSA at Polk Center. He was a life member of the VFW. Mr. Oakes was married Jan. 16, 1976, to Connie Kightlinger, who survives. Also surviving are five children, Everett L. Oakes and wife, Sandy, of Hadley, Ronald Sharrer and wife, Tammy, Mrs. William (Tina) Prestipino and Mrs. Jack (Kelly) Tebay, all of Oil City, and Keith Kightlinger and wife, Alma, of Utah; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two brothers, William Oakes and wife, Judy, of Clarks Mills and Richard Oakes of Greenville; and five sisters, Janet Robinson of Colorado, Rebecca Smith and Rhoda Oakes, both of California, Mrs. Carl (Evelyn) Grabigel of Grove City and Marilyn Peterson of Hadley. He was born Aug. 5, 1958, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Henry and Ruth Foster Schlorff. Mr. Schlorff was a former construction worker. Surviving are three brothers, John Schlorff and wife, Tomi, of Franklin, Bill Schlorff and wife, Sherri, of Oil City and Richard Schlorff and wife, Zoe, of Virginia; five sisters, Shirley Allison and husband, John, Kathy Phillips, Barbara Anthony and husband, Randy, Ginger Wassel and Patti Snyder and husband, John, all of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.
