Gesin, 6 Edgewood Drive, Oil City Frederick Paul Hockenberry Sr., Mim-Royd Village, Rimersburg Grace Susan Karg, Oil City James E. Ritchey, 120 E. Spruce St., Titusville Margaret T. Schwartz, Perkasie, formerly of Sharon Hill Valentino V. "Val" Sciarrone, Grove City, formerly of Franklin Virginia I. Callihan Virginia I. Callihan, 77, of Miola Road, Clarion, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, in Clarion Hospital. The Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Thursday in The Derrick. Edith L. Gesin Edith L. Gesin, 98, of 6 Edgewood Drive, Oil City, died in her residence at 10:06 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2005. Born Sept. 12, 1906, in Plumer, she was the daughter of Daniel J. and Augusta Bankson Leach. Mrs. Gesin graduated in 1924 from Oil City High School. She was employed by Pennzoil Co. as a secretary for Charles L. Suhr until his retirement and then for his son, Henry B. Suhr, and lastly for his grandson, Henry B. Suhr Jr., retiring in 1978. Mrs. Gesin was a life member of Trinity United Methodist Church, had taught Sunday School and served for 25 years as benevolent treasurer. She was active in the United Methodist Women of Trinity Church and also the Franklin District of the Western Pennsylvania Conference. She was a member of the Oil City YWCA, Belles Lettres Club and Zonta Club of Oil City-Franklin. On Sept. 25, 1948, she married Miller C. Gesin, who preceded her in death Sept. 28, 1995. Mrs. Gesin was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Wilson and Irma Brown, and a brother, James D. Leach. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Merritt, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church or to VNA Home Care. Frederick Paul Hockenberry Sr. Frederick Paul Hockenberry Sr., 45, of Mim-Royd Village, Rimersburg, died at 4:30 a.m. Monday, April 11, in Clarview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, following a lengthy illness. Born Dec. 21, 1959, in McKeesport, he was the son of Delbert and Mary Jean Holtz Hockenberry. He served many years in the U.S. Army and also in the U.S. Army Reserve. Mr. Hockenberry was employed as a laborer for Welaski Moving Co. in Tarentum. He attended the New Athens Church of God of Prophecy near Rimersburg. Surviving are two daughters, Dolores Ann Hockenberry of Leechburg and Danielle Gamble of Vandergrift; one son, Frederick Paul Hockenberry Jr. of Leechburg; and one grandson, Quentin James Gamble. He also is survived by two sisters, Marsha Srtraight and Maria Yori, both of Erie; and six brothers, Delbert Hockenberry and Donald Hockenberry, both of Sligo, Chuck Hockenberry of Natrona Heights, Mark Yori of Erie, Ted Hockenberry of Templeton and Jeffery Hockenberry of Brackenridge. Mr. Hockenberry was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Donna Jean Hockenberry; and his stepmother, Patricia Brown Hockenberry. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the New Athens Church of God of Prophecy near Rimersburg with the Rev. Leonard Goughler, pastor, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Rimersburg VFW and the Rimersburg American Legion Ceremonial Squads. Grace Susan Karg Miss Grace Susan Karg, 95, a resident of the Oil City Presbyterian Home, died there Tuesday evening, April 12, 2005. The Reinsel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Thursday in The Derrick. James E. Ritchey James E. Ritchey, 71, of 120 E. Spruce St., Titusville, died at 9:25 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2005, in Titusville Area Hospital. Born May 19, 1933, in Franklin, he was the son of Domer and Frances Beers Ritchey. Mr. Ritchey retired as an aide for Warren State Hospital. Surviving are three children, Ronald A. Ritchey and Marlene Snyder, both of Franklin, and Bonnie Cheers of Utica; eight grandchildren, Ronald A. Ritchey II, Kenneth "Andy" Ritchey, Janell Snyder and Robyn Rice, all of Franklin, Jodi Samatoris and Heidi Cheers, both of Barkeyville, and Madison Hale and Autumn Hale, both of Utica; and one great-grandchild, Ronald E. Overton of Franklin. He also is survived by two brothers and their wives, Lloyd D. and Shirley Ritchey of Franklin and Robert L. and Connie Ritchey of Polk; a sister and husband, Carol Ann and Les Reitz of Dempseytown; a special friend, Mae E. "Betty" Canon of Titusville; his beloved dog, Chiqueta; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ritchey was preceded in death by three brothers, Clair D. "Buck" Ritchey, Harold B. Ritchey and Glenn V. Ritchey. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald C. Bole, VNA Hospice minister, officiating. Interment will be in Graham Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Margaret T. Schwartz Margaret T. Schwartz, 60, of Perkasie, formerly of Sharon Hill, died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at her home. Born June 14, 1944, in Darby, she was one of nine children born to the late Paul J. and Marie Harrison Murter and was raised in Sharon Hill. She was a 1962 graduate of Archbishop Pendergrast School. After her marriage to Harko W. Schwartz in Holy Spirit Church, Sharon Hill, the couple moved to the Philippines where her husband served in the military. After their return to the United States, the couple moved to the Lansdale and Bucks County area until they settled in their current home in Perkasie. Mrs. Schwartz and her husband were self-employed and worked from home. He survives. She was a collector, especially of Beanie Babies and patriotic memorabilia. Mrs. Schwartz was a devoted family woman and loved gardening, skiing and her pets. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sisters, Christine Kennedy of Folcroft and Diana Christopher of Prospect Park; four brothers, Paul J. Murter Jr. of Lansdowne, Charles J. Murter of Norwood, Clark R. Murter of Sharon Hill and Daniel D. Murter of Collingdale; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Schwartz was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Eugene L. Murter and David Murter. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday in Holy Spirit Church, Sharon Hill, with Mass of Christian Burial scheduled there at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Laureldale Cemetery, Reading. The McCausland-Bathurst Funeral Home, 202 S. Chester Pike, Glenolden, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fox Chase Cancer Center, 333 Cotman Ave., Philadelphia, 19111. Valentine V. 'Val' Sciarrone Valentine V. "Val" Sciarrone, 75, a resident of 676 N. Broad St., Grove City, since 1990, formerly of Franklin, died at 5:05 a.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005, in United Community Hospital, Grove City. Death followed a 10-year illness. Born April 14, 1929, in Franklin, he was the son of Joseph and Rose Caccamo Sciarrone. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 with Co. B, 969th Engineer Construction Battalion. Mr. Sciarrone worked for General Manifold in Franklin and retired in 1985 from Joy Manufacturing, Franklin, where he was an assembler for 18 years. He was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Sciarrone loved hunting and fishing. Surviving are a companion, Janice E. Crawley, and her children, Mrs. Thomas (Sharon) Dye and Charles Crawley Jr., all of Grove City; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two sisters, Sandy Sciarrone of Bradenton, Fla., and Cathy Carter and husband, William, of Franklin; three brothers, Anoe Sciarrone of Erie, Sal Sciarrone and wife, Mary, of Greenville and John Sciarrone of Polk; and the following nieces and nephews, Annette Sciarrone, Vicki Mankowski, Joseph, Robert and Mary Sciarrone and Billiejo and Cathiejo Carter. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sciarrone was preceded in death by one brother, Dom Sciarrone. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday in the Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Msgr. Edward Zietler, pastor of the Church of the Beloved Disciple, Grove City, presiding.
