Beck and wife, Vivian, in Weston, Mich. Mrs. Beck had spent the last few years living with her children, Barbara Kern of Ohio, Oliver Beck of Michigan and Darrell Beck of Ohio. She was born Sept. 18, 1912, in St. Michael, the daughter of Robert and Mary Alice Rain Cummings. Surviving, in addition to her three children, Barbara, Oliver and Darrell, are 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Beck was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Beck; a son, Charles R. Beck; and 15 brothers and sisters. Joseph Desko Jr. Joseph Desko Jr., 82, of 241 Pacific St., Franklin, died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, in St. Vincent Health Center, Erie. Born Aug. 7, 1922, in Ambridge, he was the son of Joseph Desko Sr. and Ann Pelles Desko. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Air Corps 9th Air Force Division in the European Theater. Mr. Desko retired in 1977 after 22 years as a maintenance group leader for Franklin Steel. He was a member of the Fox Street Church of God and was Senior High Youth counselor for the church. Mr. Desko enjoyed hunting, fishing and softball. He was married Dec. 31, 1945, to Twila A. Seigworth, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John (Alene) Archer of Ashburn, Va., and Mrs. Larry (Luanne) Morrison of Fort Myers, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jill Jones of Lawrenceville, Ga., Jason Jones of Copella, Texas, Nicole Michal of Upland, Calif., and Erik Cooper of Phoenix, Ariz.; and three great-grandchildren, Jessica Michal and Mallory White, both of Upland, Calif., and Jenna Jones of Lawrenceville, Ga. He also is survived by a brother, Stephen Desko of Polk. In addition to his parents, Mr. Desko was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, George and Robert Desko; and two sisters, Ann Daugherty and Irene Ford. Lingo, 76, of 19 Quaker Drive, Oil City, died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, in Sugar Creek Station, Franklin, after an extended illness. Born July 4, 1928, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Lee H. and Elizabeth Ann Bucholz Irwin. She attended the Oil City schools. Mrs. Lingo had worked at the Oil City Hospital, the telephone company, Kem Drugs and as a secretary for Cornplanter Township. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Rosary Society of the church and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas., having received her 25-year pin. Mrs. Lingo was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards. She was married by the Rev. P.A. Lynch in St. Joseph Church Nov. 3, 1946, to Anthony M. Lingo, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Lavonne "Bonnie" Rapp and husband, Frank, of Oil City; and two grandchildren, Eric Rapp of Oil City and Adam Rapp of Houston, Texas. She also is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Irene McQuown of Rochester, N.Y., and Mrs. Michael (Kathy) Blandin of Franklin; two brothers, Lee Irwin and wife, Ann, of Oil City and Charles Irwin and wife, Janice, of Seneca; a brother-in-law, Jack Coogan of Franklin; two sisters-in-law, Rosanne Irwin of Oil City and Karen Irwin of Morganton, N.C.; a close friend, Helen Sabousky of Oil City; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lingo was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane L. Lingo, March 9, 2003; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Donald Hollingsworth; a sister, Rosemary Coogan; two brothers, LeRoy Irwin and Donald Irwin; and a brother-in-law, Charles McQuown. Reed, 59, of Cranberry, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a five-year battle with non Hodgkin's lymphoma and acute myeloid leukemia. Born July 15, 1945, in Kittanning, he was the son of Raymond and Marion Yates Reed. He was a 1963 graduate of Cranberry High School and attended Allegheny College, Meadville, and the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville for a couple of years. Mr. Reed then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from 1967 to 1970. Following his discharge from the service, he completed his pharmacy degree at the University of Pittsburgh. He worked as a pharmacist for several area pharmacies before going to work for Polk Center, retiring Sept. 14, 2002, after 26 years of service. In his younger years, Mr. Reed enjoyed working on his street rod. He enjoyed the company of his Yorkshire terrier, Coke, working around the house, reading, time spent on the computer, watching NASCAR races, NFL football, college football, and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Reed was married in Franklin May 20, 1972, to Beth Boyer, who survives. Also surviving are his parents, Raymond and Marion Reed of Seneca; his mother-in-law, Maxine Boyer of Cranberry; a sister, Kathleen Langford and husband, Kenneth, of Conneaut Lake; a brother-in-law, William "Bill" Boyer and wife, Dee, of Cranberry; a niece, Jennifer Stancil of Girard; a nephew, Daniel Langford of Erie; great-nieces Jordan Stancil of Girard and Lydia Langford of Erie; a great-nephew, Nicholas Langford of Erie; best friend, Bob Minich of Hadley; and special friends, Rowena Schwartz, Cheryl Tompkins and Dr. Diane BuchBarker of UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. Thelma Geraldine Witherup Richards Thelma Geraldine Witherup Richards, 94, of 103 N. 13th St., Franklin, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born March 5, 1910, in Eau Claire, she was the daughter of Edward R. and Lottie B. Hutchison Witherup. She was married Nov. 16, 1928, to Thomas William Richards, who died June 22, 1985. Mrs. Richards and her husband retired in 1978 after spending 31 years in Philadelphia where Rev. Richards was pastor of the Faith United Methodist Church and she was director of student placement and financial aide officer for Philadelphia College of Bible. The couple enjoyed traveling and visited every state but Hawaii. Mrs. Richards was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Franklin. Surviving are two nieces, Betty Lou Ross of Titusville, Fla., and Judith Stalker Shust of Pittsburgh; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Richards was preceded in death by a brother, Dayne Edward Witherup; two sisters, Garnet Rosen and Virginia Stalker; and a grand-niece, Dawn Lynn Ross. Wetzel, 73, of 10060 Route 58, Sligo, died at 10:40 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at her home following a sudden illness. Born Feb. 28. 1931, in Sligo, she was the daughter of Harry and Veotta Rearigh Vogle. Mrs. Wetzel was custodial contract supervisor for Clarion University of Pennsylvania for 29 years, retiring in December 1991. She was a member of the Callensburg Church of God. Mrs. Wetzel enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She was married April 7, 1951, to Ronald E. Wetzel, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Ronald E. Wetzel Jr. of West Freedom; a daughter and husband, Bonnie and Barry Gilbert of Route 58, Sligo; and three grandchildren, Kimberly Johnston of Derry, Kevin E. Wetzel of Sligo and Ashley Gilbert of Route 58, Sligo. She also is survived by a sister, Isabelle Henry of Rimersburg; a brother and wife, Carl "Ike" and Betty Vogle of Sligo; and several nieces and nephews. James Arthur 'Art' Wollaston James Arthur "Art" Wollaston, 96, of Genesee, formerly of Oil City, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in his home. Mr. Wollaston had been a resident of Genesee since 1971, previously living in Oil City and Bradford. Born March 27, 1908, in Costello, he was the son of James E. and Kathryn Wollaston. Mr. Wollaston was employed by National Fuel Gas Co., starting his career in January 1934 as a shop clerk at the Bradford Distribution Center. In July 1941, he was transferred to the civil engineering department in Oil City as assistant engineer. He became field agent in the titles and contracts department in March 1945 and was promoted to supervisor in August 1964. In February 1969, he became assistant secretary of United Natural Gas Co. He also served on the National Fuel Gas Co. Legal Committee. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Genesee, charter member of the American Right of Way Association, Oil City Chamber of Commerce, Wellsvlle Order of Elks, Boy Scout leader, charter member of Citizens Against Government Waste, the Potter County Historical Society, the Andrews Settlement-Ellisburg Community Club; the Genesee Volunteer Fire Co.; and served on the Potter County Board of View. Mr. Wollaston was married in Latrobe Oct. 29, 1936, to the former Hilda M. Hanes, who died Sept. 16, 2002. Surviving are three sons, James W. Wollaston of Orange, Calif., John F. Wollaston of Oxford, Miss., and Robert B. Wollaston of Ankeny, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Wollaston was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia A. Stahlman; a granddaughter, Wendy Stahlman; two brothers; and three sisters. Dale Zinz Dale Zinz, 66, of 4015 W. Erie St., Linesville, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in UPMC Pittsburgh. Born May 30, 1938, in Transfer, he was the son of Arthur and Ruth Roebauch Zinz. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Zinz was employed by Labor Local 245. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Zinz enjoyed hunting. He was married June 16, 1962, to Jeanette Miller, who survives. Also surviving are two sons and their wives, Donald and Deborah Zinz and Daniel and Lisa Zinz; a daughter, DeAnna Pisarchick; and four grandchildren. He also is survived by two sisters, Jane Canfield and Nora Zinz; and three brothers, Arthur Zinz, Frank Zinz and David Zinz. Mr. Zinz was preceded in death by his parents.
