Braden Tinker, State Route 257, Seneca Melissa Grace Wolf, Rimersburg, formerly of Knox Mary J. Wolford, 166 Vincent Road, Franklin K. Joan Callahan K. Joan Callahan, 81, of the Oil City Presbyterian Home, formerly of 7 Vo-Tech Drive and Hone Avenue, Oil City, died at 8:40 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at UPMC Northwest, following an extended illness. Born Aug. 9, 1923, in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late Joseph S. and Goldie O'Donnell Nelson. Mrs. Callahan was a 1941 graduate of Oil City High School and a 1944 graduate of the Oil City Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at the Oil City Hospital as a registered nurse for many years. After retiring from the hospital, she accepted a nursing position at Venango Internal Medicine. She was a member of St. Joseph Church. Active in civic affairs, she was a member of the Community Playhouse for many years and also enjoyed performing in Critical Care Capers. She enjoyed following the Men's Softball League and attending Oil Heritage Week festivities. Mrs. Callahan enjoyed life and being around her family and friends. She was married Nov. 22, 1944, in St. Stephen Church to John C. "Jack" Callahan, who preceded her in death in 1997. Mrs. Callahan is survived by a daughter, Nancy Ellen Callahan of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two sons, Daniel J. Callahan and his wife, Nancy B., of Randolph, N.Y., and Patrick J. Callahan and his wife, Heather M., of Dunkirk, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Bridget White, Joshua Winger, Sam Gold, Liam S. Callahan and Kevin C. Callahan; a great-granddaughter, Cassandra White; and a brother, Jim Nelson of Queensbury, N.Y. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Gold. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Reinsel Funeral Home and from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery. Wesley H. Frye Wesley H. Frye, 72, of Knox, died at 4 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, in Clarion Hospital. Born Aug. 7, 1932, in Westmoreland County, he was the son of Floyd and M. Olive Hugus Frye. Mr. Frye served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Glass Containers Co. in Knox from 1962 until the plant closed in 1986. Mr. Frye was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Knox. He was also a member of Knox Volunteer Fire Co., where he served as fire police captain; and the Dellart-Rossman-Wenner American Legion post in Lamartine. Mr. Frye enjoyed his family, being on his Kubota, plowing snow or mowing and his friends at the "round table" for daily lunch. He was known as the Gofer at Frye's Garage. On June 10, 1955, he married the former June L. Weeter, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Sherrie Kauffman and her husband, Kim, of Harrisburg, Jolinda Tharan and her husband, Theodore, of Knox, and Beverly Zern and her husband, James, of Pittsburgh; and two sons, John Frye and his wife, Barb, of Titusville, and Jeffrey Frye of Knox. Other survivors include six grandchildren, Garrett and Krista Tharan of Knox, Lindsey and Grant Kauffman of Harrisburg and Emily and Adria Zern of Pittsburgh; four step-grandchildren, Mike Beals of New York City, Jamie Bryant of Columbus, Ga., Christe Beals of Pittsburgh and Heather Beals of Titusville; a step-great grandson, Herbert Bryant of Columbus, Ga.; and a brother, Richard Frye and his wife, Annette, of Export. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-grandson, Jeff Beals. Friends may call from noon to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the William N. Phyllis Hartzell Phyllis Hartzell, 87, of 103 North 13th St., Franklin, died at 1:15 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at The Caring Place. Born Feb. 12, 1918, in Sykesville, she was the daughter of Gertrude F. Carpenter and Fred C. Kenemuth. Mrs. Hartzell worked as a waitress for various local restaurants. She was a member of The Church of the Nazarene, Oil City. She enjoyed bingo and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On Jan. 19, 1939, she married Carl R. Hartzell, who preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 1955. Surviving are two children, Carol McClelland and her husband, Harry Michael, of Franklin, and Jean Walker of Rochester, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Richard Hartzell of Seneca, Timothy Walker of Brockport, N.Y., and Curtis Walker and his wife, Robin, of Cartersville, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, Luke Walker of Cartersville, Ga., Rena Walker of Cartersville, Michael Hartzell of Warren, Corrinn Hartzell of Virginia and Cory Lawson of Oil City; and a sister, Emogene Kenemuth of Oil City. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Richard Hartzell; a sister, Mildred Kenemuth; and two grandsons, Michael Hartzell and Martin Scannell Jr. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the Robert W. Leonard Sr., 77, of Rockland, formerly of Pittsburgh, died at 6:05 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Sugar Creek Station in Franklin, following an extended illness. Born Nov. 20, 1927, in Emsworth, he was the son of the late Louis D. and Alice M. Coats Leonard. Mr. Leonard attended public schools in Emsworth and Avalon. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Leonard was employed as a head millwright for U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh for 16 years before retiring in 1978. He was a member of Emsworth Lutheran Church. He enjoyed watching football and tinkering around the house on a variety of projects. Mr. Leonard was married April 10, 1948, in Avalon, to Delores E. Slaney, who survives. Also surviving are five children, Robert B. Leonard Jr. and his wife, Huean, of El Dorado, Calif., Roberta L. Baylor and her husband, Joe, of McKees Rocks, Louis D. Leonard and his wife, Patti, of Burke, Va., Joyce A. Bridy and her husband, Ron, of Mt. Carmel, and Mary April Weaver and her husband, Calvin, of Kennerdell; 15 grandchildren, Sabrina, Nicole, Lisa, Shawn, Sheree, Trevor, Connie, Denise, Louis, Shawn, Chris, Renee, Rachel, Calvin and Tanesha, and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Leonard was preceded in death by a brother, John Leonard; and two sisters, Leona Hilkey and Thelma Sloop. Dorothy Louise Michiline Dorothy Louise Michiline, 81, of New Bethlehem, died Thursday afternoon, Feb. 24, 2005, at Clarion Hospital. Born July 7, 1923, in Oak Ridge, Armstrong County, she was a daughter of the late Ezra and Katie Copenhaver Haines. Mrs. Michiline worked in the bakery and produce department of Tom's Riverside in New Bethlehem for 20 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of New Bethlehem. She married Leo Michiline, who preceded her in death in 1981. Mrs. Michiline is survived by a daughter, Rose Miller, and her husband, Lee, of Pittsburgh; a son, Joe Michiline of New Bethlehem; three grandchildren, Gina Stokesberry and her husband, Ernie, Mark Boyer and his wife, Erin, and Leon Michiline and his wife, Sumiko; and four great-grandchildren, Lorenzo Stawarz, Liam Michiline, Noel Michiline and Savannah Rose Boyer. Also surviving are two sisters, Emma Jean Molocznik of Orange, Calif., and Lois Campbell of Sun City, Calif. Irene Louwave Wolfe Decort Montgomery Irene Louwave Wolfe Decort Montgomery, 76, of Shippenville, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Clarion Hospital. The Robert V. Fred Lewis Snell Sr. Fred Lewis Snell Sr., 71, of Tionesta Route 3, died at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at his residence. Born April 1, 1933, in Franklin, he was the son of the late Francis Leroy "Red" Snell and Florence Elizabeth Ketler Snell Latshaw. Mr. Snell enlisted in the U.S. Army Rangers in 1953 and was stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. He was the owner and operator of The Bait Box in Tionesta in the 1960s. In the 1960s and 1970s, he was self-employed as a general contractor and also owned and managed many real estate rental properties in the Oil City area. Mr. Snell was also the owner and operator of the Fox Run Fur Farm in Tionesta and Snell Lumber Company in West Hickory. He served on the Venango County Planning Commission. He was a member of the Oil City Jaycees and the Pennsylvania Trappers Association, and he was an avid trapper until a recent illness. Although he loved hunting, fishing was his greatest enjoyment. He, his family and friends traveled and fished streams throughout the area. The Allegheny River was a favorite spot on weekdays. He arranged and took part in many fishing expeditions in Kippewa, Ontario, Canada, and Beauchene, Quebec, Canada, and he caught many trophy fish. Mr. Snell is survived by his former wife, Patricia L. (Chapel) Snell of Tionesta; three sons, Fred L. Snell Jr. of West Hickory, Kyle E. Snell and his wife, Karlissa, of West Hickory, and Ted F. Snell and his wife, Shelley, of Canton, Ga.; two daughters, Debra J. Houck and her husband, Jeff, of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Kerri P. Snell of Tionesta; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also surviving are a brother, Charles Leroy Snell and his wife, Maxine, of Williford, Ark.; a sister, Barbara Jean Snell Wiegel and her husband, Mike, of Franklin; and one stepsister, Sandra Lee Winslow and her husband, Jack, of Franklin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Snell was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Harry Snell and Dennis Eldon Latshaw; and a son, Edward Arthur Snell. Paul Eugene Swires Paul Eugene Swires, 56, of Sebastian, Fla., formerly of Franklin, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at his residence. Born Sept. 24, 1948, in Franklin, he was the son of Martha Baker and Floyd Swires, Sr. Mr. Swires was a 1967 graduate of Franklin High School. He was an EMT for Community Ambulance while living in Franklin and worked as a maintenance supervisor at Whispering Palms. He was a member of Crossroads Christian Fellowship. He was also a member of the National Gold Prospecting Association and mixed Friday night bowling league. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Swires is survived by his wife, Carol J. Bickel; four children, CW 2 Christopher Wires, stationed in Fort Belvoir, Va., Wendy Shoemaker of Mocksville, N.C., Sheila Nettles of Franklin and Trisha McDonald of Texas; six grandchildren; two brothers, Major John Swires of Wilmington, Del., and Floyd "Sonny" Swires of Ravenna, Ohio; and four sisters, Debbie Bucci of Sacramento, Calif., Cindy Allen of Sacramento, Calif., Ella O'Bryan of Camden, Del., and Carol Greathouse of West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Swires Sr.; his stepfather who raised him, Junior Greathouse; and a brother, Delmas Parson. Melissa Grace Wolf Melissa Grace Wolf, 28, of Rimersburg, formerly of Knox, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, in an automobile accident on Route 68 in Monroe Township, Clarion County. Born March 5, 1976, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Arthur E. and Eleanor Fiscus Best of Knox, who survive. Mrs. Wolf was a homemaker. She was a member of Mount Joy United Methodist Church. She enjoyed puzzle books and was an avid reader and a great mother. On April 7, 1998, she married Cristopher R. Wolf, who survives. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Wolf is survived by a 2-year-old son, Joseff James Wolf; a brother; Matthew C. Best and his wife, Faye, of Egg Harbor City, N.J.; a grandmother, Edith Fiscus of Cowansville; a niece, Kiara; her mother-in-law, Gayle Brody and her husband, Jim, of Jeannette; her father-in-law, Rollie Wolf and his wife, Cindy, of Seville, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Mason Wolf of Seville, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Nicole Wolf of Jeannette and Shylo Bish of Sterling, Ohio; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Wolford, 82, of 166 Vincent Road, Franklin, died at 7:50 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie. Born Aug. 24, 1922, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Mary Reagle and Emmett Tirk. Mrs. Wolford was a 1940 graduate of Franklin High School. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, auctions, crossword puzzles, her great grandchildren's sporting events, Steelers football and Pirates baseball. On March 1, 1941, she married M. Luther Wolford, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Jean Louise Rugh of Franklin; two grandchildren, Kreig Rugh and his wife, Debbie, of Aurora, Ohio, and Mrs. Randy (Kelly) Beightol of Franklin; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan and Erin Rugh of Aurora, Ohio, and Josh Beightol of Franklin. Mrs. Wolford was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lloyd Tirk; two sisters, Avinell Sisney and Margie Orr; and a son-in-law, Eugene Rugh. The family planned to conduct a private viewing. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home Inc., Franklin, with Phil Conklin of the Fox Street Church of God officiating and Earl Flick assisting.
