    3. The Derrick, May 2, 2005: Nettie M. Braden, Sligo, formerly of Clarion Henrietta M. Cupples, Butler Nancy Langdon Walsh Fotos, Shippenville Gertrude I. Hays, Polk Robert Bernard 'Bo-Bo' Himes, Strattanville Anne M. Kolobitz, Titusville Harold Eugene Martz, Cooperstown Stanley A. Riggs, Corsica William R. Sellers, Eau Claire Estella V. Sheats, 2 Cornwall St. Nettie M. Braden Nettie M. Braden, 104, of Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation, Sligo, formerly of Liberty Street, Clarion, died at 2:45 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation, following a lingering illness. Born April 17, 1901, in upper Limestone Township, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Clara McKinley Braden. Ms. Braden graduated in 1920 from Clarion Normal School, now Clarion University of Pennsylvania, earning a bachelor's degree. She earned her master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She attended the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia and also completed State College extension classes. Ms. Braden taught in the Pittsburgh area until she returned to the family home in 1938. She taught English and reading in Porter Township Consolidated School, Clarion County, until she went to Kittanning to teach reading. Ms. Braden retired as a remedial reading instructor. She was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church of Verona. After her retirement, she attended the Corsica Presbyterian Church. She was lecturer of the Kingsville Grange for several years, and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary at Strattanville, as well as the Clarion VFW auxiliary. Ms. Braden served a short time with Women's Army Corps. She most recently was a member of the Clarion Historical Society, the American Legion, the auxiliary of the Strattanville post and the Pennsylvania Teachers' Association. Ms. Braden was the last surviving member of her family. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Braden, an infant, and Chester M. Braden, a former county commissioner; two sisters, Mrs. Perry (Jennie) Kiser, and Alice Braden; and one niece, Clara Louise Kiser. At Ms. Braden's request, there will be no public visitation. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today in Goble Funeral Home, Clarion, with the Rev. James Dietrich officiating. Interment will follow in the Braden lot at Pisgah Cemetery, Corsica. Henrietta M. Cupples Henrietta M. Cupples, 81, of Butler, died Sunday morning, May 1, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Youngstown. She was the widow of Robert Cupples, who died April 18, 2005. Nancy Langdon Walsh Fotos Nancy Langdon Walsh Fotos, 73, of Shippenville, died Saturday morning, April 30, 2005. Born March 28, 1932, in Boston, she was the daughter of John Walsh and Ellen Hobbins, both of whom preceded her in death. Mrs. Fotos was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Boston, and attended the State Teachers College at Boston. She was an elementary teacher aide in the Delaware Valley School District and the Clarion Area School District, where she specialized in teaching reading and mathematics to a variety of foreign students in the Title I program. While at Delaware Valley, she was a charter member and treasurer of the Matamoras-Milford Keystone Community Club. Mrs. Fotos was an avid antique collector and enjoyed shopping for and acquiring a number of unusual items of historical interest. The Nancy L. Fotos Scholarship Award was created in 1993 to annually aide a deserving Clarion-area scholar who was a student in the Title I program and is pursuing a post-secondary program. She was married March 24, 1953, to Joseph P. Fotos, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Stephen and wife, Susan, of Mechanicsburg, Christopher of Manassas, Va., and Jonathan and wife, Jamie, of Arlington, Va.; and two grandchildren, Joseph and Thomas of Mechanicsburg. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Clarion. Gertrude I. Hays Gertrude I. Hays, 81, of 6167 Sandy Lake-Polk Road, Polk, Sandy Lake Township, Mercer County, died of cancer at 9:40 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2005, in her home. Born May 7, 1923, in Plummer, Venango County, she was a daughter of Roy H. and Carrie A. Rockafellow Hines. She was a 1943 Rocky Grove High School graduate and a graduate of the former Franklin Business College. In earlier years, she worked at G.C. Murphy Co. and Joy Manufacturing, both in Franklin. Mrs. Hays was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Sandy Lake, and was baptized in June 1959. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting and crocheting. Mrs. Hays was a member of the former Franklin Rambler's Motorcycle Club. She was married June 14, 1952, to James C. Hays, who survives at home. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Herbert (Delnora) Miller of Washington, Pa.; three sons, Richard J. Hays and wife, Patricia, of Shippenville, Donald D. Hays and wife, Sherrie, of Franklin, and David C. Hays of Polk; six grandchildren; two sisters, Viola Bruner of Cooperstown and Mrs. Daryle (Mabel) Huff of Cooperstown; and one brother, Paul Hines and wife, Gerry, of Cooperstown. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter-in-law, Roberta R. Hays; one sister, Twila Horton; and two brothers, David Hines and Jake Hines. Robert Bernard "Bo-Bo" Himes Robert Bernard "Bo-Bo" Himes, 80, of C-L School Road, Strattanville, died Saturday morning, April 30, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare-Shippenville, where he resided for the past 15 months. Born June 1, 1924, in Brockway, he was the son of the Rev. Bernard Charles Himes, who died in 1961, and Alice Mae Walton Himes, who died in 1977. Mr. Himes worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Plant in Clarion for 45 years, retiring in 1987. He was a World War II veteran, having served in India, Burma and the Pacific Theater of Operations. Mr. Himes was a Private First Class in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He earned a Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Unit Award, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal, one Bronze Star and the Victory Medal. Mr. Himes enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was married April 1948 to Lena Franceschi, who preceded him in death in 1986. Mr. Himes then married Alice M. Siverling Spader, September 1991. She survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Brenda Sue and husband, Larry, Nicely of Strattanville, and David A. and wife, Lori, Himes, of Lewisburg; four step-children, Deborah A. Stewart of Brookville, Tammie H. Kerr and husband, Donald, of Punxsutawney, John C. Spader of Marion Center and James S. Spader of Punxsutawney; two grandchildren, Aaron Himes and Jonathon Himes, both of Lewisburg; six step-grandchildren, Chad Stewart of Emerickville, Heather Stewart of Grove City, Shannon Kerr of Punxsutawney, Christopher and Lisa Kerr of Coolspring and Kristen McAdams of Punxsutawney; and one step-great-grandchild, Xiamara Kerr of Coolspring. Also surviving are three brothers, Charles Himes and wife, Margaret, of Clarion, the Rev. George Himes and wife, Frances, of Kennerdell, and Donald Himes and wife, Julie, of Florida; two sisters, Alice M. Marvin and husband, Edward, of Seneca, and Shirley Crauss and husband, Leonard, of North Carolina; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Himes of Kennerdell. In addition to his parents and first wife, Mr. Himes was preceded in death by three brothers, the Rev. Thomas Himes and wife, Dorothy, Alvin Himes and the Rev. Raymond Himes. Elm St., Titusville, a resident of Country Acres Personal Care Home in Titusville for the past 15 months, died at 7:52 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Titusville Area Hospital. Born on Sept. 28, 1919, in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Josephine Cotterman Wujcik. Mrs. Kolobitz was 1938 Oil City High School graduate. She was a member of St. Walburga Church, Titusville, and a member of the Altar Rosary Society. Mrs. Kolobitz enjoyed her plants, sewing and needlework. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was married May 16, 1942, in Oil City to Joseph J. Kolobitz. He preceded her in death Jan. 16, 1995. Surviving are a son, James J. Kolobitz and wife, Andrea, of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Kathleen Mayer and husband, Robert, of Titusville; two grandchildren, Robert and Scott Mayer; three brothers, Joseph Wujcik and wife, Betty, of Seneca, Theodore "Ted" Wujcik and wife, Lottie, and Richard Wujcik and wife, Norma, all of Oil City; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Kolobitz was preceded in death by two brothers; two sisters, Helen Gates and Mary Hajec; and two brothers-in-law, George Gates and Blair Hajec. Harold Eugene Martz Harold Eugene Martz, 63, of 110 Edgewood Drive, Cooperstown, died April 29, 2005, at UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born May 30, 1941, in Ringgold Township, Jefferson County, he was a son of Jay and Erma Powell Martz. Mr. Martz retired as a laborer for National Fuel Gas Co. in Oil City. He belonged to Cooperstown, Ringgold and New Bethlehem volunteer fire departments. Mr. Martz was a charter member of the Ringgold Volunteer Fire Department. He also belonged to the Oil City Moose Lodge and the Polish National Alliance. Surviving are his mother; one son, Michael Martz of Hunterville, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Daniel Martin (Betty) Miller of Arizona, and Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Heyer of Redbank, N.J.; and two brothers, Raymond (Patricia) Martz of New Bethlehem, and Earl "Jim" (Janet) Martz of New Bethlehem. Interment will follow in Ringgold Cemetery, Ringgold. Stanley A. Riggs Stanley A. Riggs, 87, of Corsica, died Saturday morning, April 30, in Beverly Healthcare-Shippenville. Born May 7, 1917, in West Virginia, he was a son of Spence A. and Alice Riggs. He was retired from Cook Forest State Park. Mr. Riggs was of the Protestant faith. He was married in 1975 Emma Fulle who died in 1978. Mr. Riggs was the last surviving member of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, William; and one sister Hazel Shirey. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, Clarion. Sellers Jr. William R. Sellers Jr., 64, of Eau Claire, died unexpectedly Friday evening, April 29, 2005, at the United Community Hospital emergency room in Grove City. He was the husband of Patricia Long Sellers. Estella V. Sheats Estella V. Sheats, 77, of 2 Cornwall St., died at 10:54 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2005, at Titusville Area Hospital. Born Oct. 3, 1927, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Harold E. Sheats and Eva Edna Brown Sheats, both of whom preceded her in death. Ms. Sheats attended Oil City schools and lived in the Oil City area most of her life. She had previously worked at the old Arlington Hotel and Holiday Inn, last working in the laundry department of the Oil City Hospital. Ms. Sheats was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included watching WWF wrestling, NASCAR and soap operas. She also loved animals and enjoyed fishing. Ms. Sheats is survived by a brother and his wife, Ronald E. and Carol Sheats of Oil City; a sister, Doris Smith of Oil City; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hutchinson Funeral Home, 210 Bissell Ave., Oil City.
