'Peg' Donaldson Esther A. "Peg" Donaldson, 79, of Grove Street, St. Petersburg, died at 3:55 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2005, in United Community Hospital, Grove City, following a brief illness. Born Dec. 2, 1925, in Adrian, she was the daughter 9f Clarence and Hazel Adams Wolfe. Mrs. Donaldson was employed by the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District in the food service department and later with the custodial staff of the school. She was of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Donaldson enjoyed hunting, fishing, crossword puzzles and helping for many years with the St. Petersburg Firemen's Community Picnic. She was married in Sheffield Dec. 21, 1946, to Ralph L. Donaldson, who died April 1, 1984. Surviving are three children, Mrs. Judy Argue of Indiana state, Mrs. Allan (Bonnie) McCord of Bruin and Ronald W. Donaldson and wife, Tracey, of Forestville; 12 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Donaldson was preceded in death by three brothers, Chambers Wolfe, Jesse Wolfe and William Wolfe; a sister, Margaret Wolfe; and a grandson, Ronald Eugene Donaldson.. Dan Myers, pastor of the St. Petersburg United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in St. Petersburg Cemetery. Millard R. Kaber Millard R. Kaber, 95, formerly of Fern and Venus, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2005, in The Caring Place, Franklin. Born May 21, 1909, in Fern, he was the son of Alec and Emma Driehaupt Kaber. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Kaber and his wife owned and operated the Fern Store from 1936 until it closed in 1960. They also operated the Fern Post Office during the same time period. Later, he retired from Knox Glass after 21 years of service. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church in Fern where he served in many capacities over the years. Mr. Kaber enjoyed gardening and was a Christian witness. He was married May 10, 1935, to Thelma I. Hanst, who survives at The Caring Place, Franklin. The Kabers had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last week. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Kenneth Kaber and wife, Chris, of Venus, and Dale Kaber and wife, Juanita, of Huefner; 10 grandchildren, Greg Kaber, Bruce Kaber and Phil Kaber of Venus RD 1, Amy Goodwin of Clarksville, Tenn., Lee Weaver of Knox RD 1, Trevor Kaber of Bradford, Kerry Kriebel of Knox RD 1, Garret Yount of San Francisco, Steve Yount of Elijay, Ga., and Dane Yount of Gettysburg; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kaber was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Kaber, Willis Kaber and Glen Kaber; and a daughter-in-law, Sandra Kaber. Rudolph Meade H. Rudolph, 97, of 416 Hoffman Ave., Oil City, died at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2005, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca, following a brief illness. Born Dec. 27, 1907, in the Scotch Hill area of Clarion County, he was the son of Henry J. and Grace Nulph Rudolph. At an early age, Mr. Rudolph's family moved to Forest County where he attended schools and graduated from high school. He then attended and graduated from Hoff's Business College in Warren. Mr. Rudolph started to work for the Pennzoil Oil Refining Co. in the offices at Rouseville and retired 40 years later in 1968 from the Pennzoil Administrative Offices in Oil City. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Rudolph enjoyed fishing and hunting and had a fascination with new automobiles. He was married by the Rev. P.A. Lynch at St. Joseph's June 28, 1934, to the former Evelyn Hettick, who died Dec. 25, 1999. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia M. Mortimer of Rimersburg; two grandsons, Mark J. Mortimer of Knox RD and J. Matthew Mortimer of Rimersburg; and two great-granddaughters, Sarah M. Mortimer and Rachel E. Mortimer, both of Emlenton RD. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Rudolph was preceded in death by his son-in-law, James Mortimer. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Reinsel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Msgr. John W. Lee Starr Jr., 66, of 781 Palm Hill Road, Polk, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at his home. Mr. Starr was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. Lee Starr Sr. and Louise R. Starr, and his wife, Virginia A. Starr. Surviving are two sisters, Irene and Rebecca Starr, both of Pittsburgh. He also is survived by four children, Robert E. Lee Starr III and wife, Louise, of Pittsburgh, Kimberly A. Abulaban and husband, Majdi, of Shanghai, China, Michael R. Starr and wife, Liliana, of Polk and Irene A. Leaning and husband, Ian, of Saugerties, N.Y. Surviving also are 11 grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the McCabe Brothers Funeral Home, 6214 Walnut St., Pittsburgh. Mary Jane Troese Mary Jane Troese, 87, formerly of Clarion, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005, in Manchester Presbyterian Lodge, Erie. The Goble Funeral Home of Clarion is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Thursday in The Derrick. Herbert Clarence Vandervort Herbert Clarence Vandervort, 82, of Marienville, died Monday, May 16, 2005, in Clarion Hospital. Born Nov. 2, 1922, in Sigel, he was the son of William Burdette and Lena Elizbeth Lackner Vandervort. Mr. Vandervort worked for five years for George Karl Chevrolet Garage in Marienville and then worked 27 years for Glass Container Corp. of Marienville, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Marienville United Methodist Church. Mr. Vandervort was married in Kane April 27, 1946, to Agnes E. Johnston, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Catherine Elaine Cochran and husband, Nelson, of Marienville, Michael Robert Vandervort and wife, Rose, of Newmansville and Pamela Jean Gindlesperger and husband, Jim, of Valencia; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Vandervort was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene Vandervort, Burdette Vandervort and Charles Vandervort, and a sister, Helen Smith. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Ronald McDonald Funeral Home, Marienville, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the Marienville United Methodist Church. Memorial set for Melvin Caldwell The family of Melvin Grant Caldwell, 81, formerly of Knox and Clarion, will hold a graveside memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Knox Union Cemetery. Mr. Caldwell died Jan. 6 in Hollidaysburg Veterans Home in Hollidaysburg.
