The Derrick, May 11 2005: Kathleen M. Eckel, Mentor, Ohio Elmer Wesley Kirkwood, Santa Barbara, Calif., formerly of Oil City Kathleen M. Eckel Kathleen M. Eckel, 87, of Mentor, Ohio, widow of a former Franklin resident, died Friday, May 6, 2005, in Willoughby, Ohio. She was born Kathleen Judd March 15, 1918, in East Cleveland, Ohio. Mrs. Eckel was a longtime resident of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and had resided in Mentor for the past seven years. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, for 40 years. Mrs. Eckel also was a member of the Daughters of 98 and the VFW Auxiliary 1500 in Ohio. She volunteered at the Cleveland Clinic and was an avid craftsmaker. Mrs. Eckel was married to Joseph A. Eckel Jr., a former Franklin resident who preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Joseph A. Eckel III and wife, Corinne, of Franklin; two daughters, Rosemary Rufo and husband, Gilbert, of Garrettsville, Ohio, and Kathy Fielitz and husband, Allan, of Mentor, Ohio; three grandchildren, Christine Hall and husband, Bruce, Amy Berie and husband, Jacques, and Christine Riffle; and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Hall. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Eckel was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Rita Judd, and four brothers, Richard, Karl, Martin and Walter Judd. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Monreal Funeral Home of Eastlake, 35400 Curtis Blvd., Eastlake, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday in St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor, Ohio. Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township, Ohio.
