Noel, 835 Meadville Road, Titusville Wayne Burdette Shaw, Oil City, formerly of Corry Genry E. Stricek, Oil City Harry Melvin Byers Harry Melvin Byers, 76, of Venango Township, Hilliards, husband of the late Betty Ferguson Byers, died at 7:45 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2005, at VAMC in Butler following a brief illness. John W. Elliott Jr. John W. Elliott Jr., 63, of Curllsville, died at 11 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2005, in Clarion Hospital following a lingering illness. Born Feb. 12, 1942, in Grove City, he was the son of the late John Elliott Sr. and Geraldine McCanna Elliott. He attended school in the Union School District and graduated in 1960 from the Clarion School District. Mr. Elliott retired in 2000 from Owens-Brockway Glass Co. in Clarion after 12 years of service. He had operated Elliott's Outdoor Equipment in Rimersburg for a number of years. He was interested in environmental interests in Clarion County and was a member of both the Forward and Peace groups. Mr. Elliott attended the Curllsville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing and his cat, Annabel. Mr. Elliott was married in Kellersburg Aug. 4, 1962, to the former June E. Duncan, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Vincent D. Elliott of Curllsville; one daughter, Jolene R. Menold and husband, Jeffrey, of Clarion; and seven grandchildren. He also is survived by one brother, Dennis E. Elliott and wife, Cathy, of Putneyville; his stepmother, Mrs. Martha H. Elliott of Curllsville; three stepsisters, Helen Bearfield of Curllsville and Connie Mannke and husband, Joseph, and Celia Ravkind and husband, Ronnie, all of Houston, Texas; and two stepbrothers, James Best and wife, Betty Ann, of Sewickley and David Best and wife, Patty, of Bow, N.H. In addition to his parents, Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by one son, John W. Elliott III, Sept. 2, 1984; and one brother, Ralph A. Elliott, Aug. 17, 1998. Gordon, 79, of 1424 Otter St., Franklin, died at 12:40 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2005, in Sugar Creek Station, Franklin. Born Jan. 10, 1926, in Polk, he was the son of Alexander D. and Lila Haight Gordon. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Gordon retired in 1988 after 43 years as a machinist for Joy Mining Co. He was a member of the Rocky Grove Pilgrim Holiness Church. Mr. Gordon enjoyed woodworking and hunting. He was married Nov. 4, 1950, to Betty Ritchey, who survives. Also surviving are four children, David W. Gordon and wife, Kris, of Utica, Steven D. Gordon and wife, Robbin, of Franklin, Kenneth L. Gordon and wife, Cheryl, of Ocean Park, Wash., and Pamela S. Blair of Hampton, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two sisters, Doris Anderson of Warren, Pa., and Marion Flickinger of Ashtabula, Ohio. Noel, 81, of 835 Meadville Road, Titusville, died at 8 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2005, in Titusville Area Hospital. Mrs. Noel was a cancer survivor for more than 30 years. Born March 27, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, she was a daughter of Edwin and Frances Eakins Butler. She was a 1941 graduate of Pleasantville High School and also was a graduate of the Frances Butler Business School in Pleasantville. Mrs. Noel had been employed for two years during World War II as a secretary to J. Edgar Hoover of the FBI in Washington, D.C. She also had been employed at various banks in Millington, Tenn., Titusville and Pleasantville over several years. She was a member of the Titusville First United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Red Hat Society and the Robert L. Green Detachment Marine Corps League Ladies Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Titusville Garden Club. Mrs. Noel enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren; and playing cards with her friends. She was married in Pleasantville Nov. 12, 1943, to John F. Noel Sr., who survives. Also surviving are a son, John F. Noel Jr. and wife, Donna, of Titusville; two granddaughters, Shannon Jackowicz and Holly Varndell; four great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Noel Jackowicz and Sophia and Bailey Varndell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Wayne Burdette Shaw Wayne Burdette Shaw, 75, of Oil City, formerly of Corry, died early Saturday, June 4, 2005, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home following an extended illness. Born July 28, 1929, in Galinza, he was the son of Edward and Alice Lease Shaw. Mr. Shaw was a graduate of Farmington High School and Edinboro University. He was a Korean War veteran. Mr. Shaw worked for more than 30 years as a pattern maker for various businesses including Electric Materials in North East, Joy Manufacturing in Claremont, N.H., and Cooper Energy Service in Corry. Prior to working as a pattern maker, he was a teacher for the Grove City School District from 1959 to 1962. He belonged to various organizations including the VFW, Elks and Moose Club. Mr. Shaw first was married to Norma Thompson-Shaw, who died in 1976. He then was married to Joyce E. Harriger Webber-Shaw, who died in 2001. Surviving are two stepsons, Douglas S. Webber and wife, Rosanna Michal, of Oil City and Dennis C. Webber of Rouseville; a stepdaughter, DeAnn Johnson and fiance, Daniel E. Boocks, of Oil City; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also is survived by a brother, Lee Shaw and his wife of Erie. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Shaw; and two sisters, Elizabeth DeGoyler and Ruth Galubieski. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Borland Funeral Home Inc. in Leeper with the Rev. Sharon Hilfiger of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. A private interment will be held in Clarion Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Stricek, 70, of 8 Ellen Drive, Oil City, a longtime Oil City businessman, died early Monday evening, June 6, 2005, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home after an extended illness.
