    3. The Derrick, October 11, 2007: Charles L. Baker, 1201 Riverside Drive, Oil City Alice M. Ekis, formerly of Marienville Donald Ray Garris, 73, of Lexington, Ky., formerly of Knox Rita M. Kokai, East Palestine, Ohio, formerly of Oil City Eleanor M. Moore, Knox Jamie Manning Munoz, New Bethlehem, Franklin native Wanda A. Panchak, 7 E. Second St., Oil City Michael E. "Mike" Shaughnessy, Wichita Falls, Texas, formerly of Oil City Charles L. Baker, 73, of 1201 Riverside Drive, Oil City, died at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born April 22, 1934, in Franklin, he was a son of Harold O. and Harriet Patton Baker. Mr. Baker retired for health reasons from Pennzoil where he was a truck driver. On Nov. 15, 1956, he married the former Donna Heckathorne, who survives. Also surviving are five daughters, Cindy Myers and husband, Tom, Terri Blauser and Teresa Baker, all of Oil City, and Betsy Emick and Ann Kline and husband, Michael, all of Franklin; six grandchildren, Christine Metzgar, Thomas Myers, Matthew Emick, Carrie Emick, Lindsay Kline and Becca Kline; and two great-granddaughters, Jaeyla Myers and Graci Metzgar. He also is survived by two brothers-in-law, Jack Slye of Cranberry and Bill Heckathorne and wife, Janet, of Bellefonte; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Baker was preceded in death by five sisters, Ruth Skokowski, Betty Flick, Violet Phillips, Helen Nurss and Dorothy Jean Baker, who died in infancy; and three brothers, Harold Baker, Richard Baker and Kenneth Baker. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Morrison Funeral Home, Oil City. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the VNA Foundation. Alice M. Ekis Alice M. Ekis, 90, formerly of Marienville, died Wednesday evening, Oct. 10, 2007, in the Golden Living Center, Titusville. The Borland Funeral Home Inc. of Leeper is in charge of arrangements. Donald Ray Garris, 73, of Lexington, Ky., formerly of Knox, known as "Donny" to his friends and family in Knox where he grew up, died at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007. Born Nov. 12, 1933, in Monroe, he was a son of the late Charles Raymond and Mary E. Garris. He was a United States Army veteran serving from 1954 through 1956 and also served several years with the National Guard. He was a sergeant and was stationed in Fort Benning, Ga., as a tank commander and instructor. He was awarded several medals including the Medal of Honor. Mr. Garris graduated in 1960 from DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago, Ill., with a degree in electronics and worked for several defense companies, but spent most of his years of employment with RCA in Meadowlands as a logistics support engineer, writing and overseeing the production of technical manuals for the special systems equipment manufactured by RCA. He was a member of the Destiny Community Church in Lexington, Ky. While living in Washington, Pa., he was a member of Covenant Life Fellowship for more than 30 years and served in many capacities. He also served on the board of Youth for Christ/Campus Life and for many years during the 1970s he traveled with the Campus Life Singers, taking care of sound and helping with set up and maintenance of their equipment. Mr. Garris enjoyed fixing things, mowing grass and taking care of his family's farm for many years. He was always ready to help whoever was in need and always had the right tool handy for the job. His daughter once gave him a plaque that read "Dear God, if you ever need any help, just call my Dad, he can fix anything." He especially enjoyed his grandsons along with playing games and doing projects with them. Mr. Garris married Donna M. Dillinger Jan. 2, 1956, in the Presbyterian Church in Titusville with the Rev. Lloyd Chelton officiating. Mrs. Garris survives. Also surviving are two children, Dale Allen Garris of Washington, Pa., and Dawn M. Cole of Lexington, Ky.; two grandsons, Zachery and Alec Cole; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Garris was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Tharon and Vern; and two sisters, Kathryn Garris Barnett and an infant sister who died at birth. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the William N. Rupert Mortuary Inc. in Knox. The Celebration of His Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Mark Cemetery at Monroe. Rita M. Kokai Rita M. Kokai, 89, of East Palestine, Ohio, formerly of Oil City, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, in Hospice House, Poland, Ohio. The Morrison Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Friday in The Derrick. Eleanor M. Moore Eleanor M. Moore, 70, of Knox, died at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, in Clarion Hospital. Born March 29, 1937, in Elk Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of the late Bennett and Viola Delo Moyer. Mrs. Moore retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Co. in Clarion after 37 years of service. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and being a meticulous homemaker. On Jan. 9, 1960, she married Robert J. Moore, who survives. Also surviving are two sisters, Louella Wedekind and husband, Dwight "Red," of Shippenville and Eileen Grabe and husband, Richard, of Butler; three brothers-in-law, Perry Moore and wife, Angie, of Brownsville, Texas, James Moore and wife, Janet, of Hillsville, Va., and Ed Moore and wife, Carol, of Parker, Colo; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Moyer; and a brother-in-law, Floyd Moore. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in the Providence United Methodist Cemetery at Knox RD 2. The family suggests memorials be made to the Cancer Center at Clarion Hospital, 1 Hospital Drive, Clarion, 16214. Jamie Manning Munoz, 47, of 207 Penn St., New Bethlehem, died at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, in UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh. Born March 6, 1960, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Russell and Greta Masterson Manning. Mrs. Munoz was a cashier for more than four years at Clarion WalMart. She enjoyed camping and her pet dogs and most of all her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Munoz was married May 6, 1995, to Randy Munoz, who survives. Also surviving are her mother, Greta Foster, and her stepfather, Louis Foster, of Franklin; two children, Matthew David Gordon and fiancée, Jamie Ruditis, of Rocky Grove and Lisa Rose Gordon and fiancé, Donald Morrow Jr., of Franklin; and four grandchildren, Jeff Morrow of Franklin and Jocelyn Gordon, Reiley Gordon and Braden Gordon, all of Rocky Grove. She also is survived by four sisters, Daryl Cates and husband, Daryl, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Valli Karns and companion, Guy Jo, of Cambridge Springs, Sharlene Coxson and husband, Robert, and Joanne Cardy and husband, Thomas, all of Franklin; and one brother, Russell Manning II and wife, Wendy, of Oil City. Surviving also are three stepsisters, Linda Foster of Florida, Marie D 'Souza of Biglerville and Betty Majoy of Norwalk, Ohio; a stepbrother, Steven Foster of Niceville; and several nephews and nieces. Mrs. Munoz was preceded in death by her father and an infant son in 1998. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Panchak, 62, of Towne Towers, 7 E. Second St., Oil City, died at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, in the Golden Living Center, Clarion. Born Aug. 31, 1945, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Clarence E. and Grace E. Corbett Moon. She attended Oil City High School and had lived in the Oil City area all of her life. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She was of the Protestant faith. Surviving are a daughter, Lisa L. Moon of Shippenville; two grandchildren, Nicholas Whitton and Amber Whitton, both of Shippenville; and many friends at Towne Towers, She also is survived by two brothers and their wives, James and Deloris Moon of Oil City and David and Sarah Moon of Meadville; a sister and her husband, Patricia and Ed Hynes of Oil City; two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Christopher Pierce. There will be no visitation. It was Mrs. Panchak's wish to be cremated. "Mike" Shaughnessy, 53, a resident of Wichita Falls, Texas, since 2000, formerly of Oil City, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, in United Regional Health Care in Wichita Falls following a brief illness. Born June 3, 1954, in Oil City, he was the son of John F. and Lornetta E. Shaughnessy. He was a 1972 graduate of Oil City High School. Mr. Shaughnessy was a painter and worked in the construction industry. He enjoyed working on his home and doing home remodeling. Surviving are one brother, John Shaughnessy of Venus; two sisters, Daryl Coyne of Oil City and Frances Guenther of Buford, Ga.; four nephews, Andrew Shaughnessy of Philadelphia, Mark Coyne of Twinsburg, Ohio, Thomas Knight of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Shawn Knight of Atlanta, Ga.; and two nieces, Amy Shaughnessy of Garner, N.C.., and Julie Appel of Oil City. Mr. Shaughnessy was preceded in death by his parents; his second, wife, Ada Creek Shaughnessy; and a sister, Patricia Shaughnessy. No visitation was observed. The family will hold a private ceremony at a later date.
