    3. The Derrick, October 25, 2007: Arthur Izzi, New Bethlehem Rose E. Serafine, Courson Lane, Emlenton Katherine M. Steen, Oil City, formerly of Rouseville Arthur Izzi, 77, of New Bethlehem, Porter Township, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 24, 2007, in Jefferson Court, Brookville. Born May 30, 1930, in Porter Township, Clarion County, he was the son of the late Mike and Irene Carvillano Izzi. Mr. Izzi was a farmer and enjoyed gardening and going visiting. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in New Bethlehem. Mr. Izzi had a great appreciation for the staff and residents of Jefferson Court in Brookville. Surviving are two brothers, Albert Izzi of New Bethlehem and Joseph Izzi of Clarion; three sisters, Catherine Swartz of Brookville, Mary Bish and husband, John, of New Bethlehem and Lucille Souders of Norristown; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Izzi was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew and Clarence Izzi; and two sisters, Teresa Vernesoni and Joan Alkahani. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Rupert Funeral Home in New Bethlehem. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Charles Catholic Church, New Bethlehem, with the Rev. William Laska presiding. Interment will follow in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in New Bethlehem. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Charles Catholic Church, 201 Washington St., New Bethlehem, 16242. Rose E. Serafine, 85, of Courson Lane, Emlenton, Allegheny Township, Butler County, died unexpectedly at 3:51 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, shortly after her arrival in the emergency room at UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born May 16, 1922, in Edgemont, S.D., she was the daughter of William and Anna Lindberg Goettman. She moved to Pennsylvania at age 15 and graduated from Clintonville High School. Mrs. Serafine was a sales clerk for many years at Emco Mills in Emlenton, retiring in 1974. She enjoyed sewing and yard work and had a special relationship with her granddaughter, Theresa. Mrs. Serafine had been a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church in Emlenton for more than 60 years. She taught catechism for more than 20 years and also sang in the church choir. She was married in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Emlenton, Oct. 14, 1950, to Fred Serafine, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Wilda R. Chutz of NcNany Road, Emlenton; a son, David W. Serafine of East Brady RD 1; a granddaughter, Theresa D. Chutz of Allison Park; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Serafine was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie M. Bell, Jan. 6, 1994. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton. A parish prayer service will be held at 3:45 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Emlenton, with the Rev. Conrad Kraus, church pastor, presiding. Interment will take place in St. Michael Cemetery, Emlenton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emlenton Area Ambulance Service, P.O. Steen, 93, of 1293 Grandview Road, Oil City, formerly of 436 Main St., Rouseville, died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, in the Golden Living Center, Oil City. Born July 5, 1914, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Michael and Sophia Fydricks Stanish. She attended the Oil City schools. Mrs. Steen had been employed for many years as a housekeeper at the Oil City Hospital. She was a member of St. Stephen Church. Mrs. Steen was a homemaker and enjoyed bingo, playing cards, cooking and reading She was married in Franklin Sept. 6, 1963, to Paul B. Steen, who preceded her in death Nov. 14, 2002. Surviving are four children, Donald G. Zuppello of Appomattox,Va., Patricia Augustine of Prescott, Ariz., Anthony Gorman and wife, Beverly, of Oil City and Mary Ann Demuling and husband, Dan, of Suffolk, Va.; three stepchildren, Richard Steen of Shreveport, La., Paul Steen of Grandview , Mo., and Lee Steen of Orange, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Donald E. Zuppello, and the following brothers and sisters, Sophie Thomas, Michael Stanish Jr., Julia Morrison, Anna Eilers, Annette Vidsen, John Stanish, Frances Carpenter, her twin Joe Stanish, Peter Stanish, Timothy Stanish and Dorothy Grill. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Reinsel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Matthew Ruyechan , pastor of St. Stephen Church, presiding. Committal and entombment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
