    3. The Derrick, October 2, 2007: Lester H. Barber, Franklin, formerly of Leesburg, Fla. Roy S. Craig, Penn Street, Sligo David M. McElhattan, 1401 Chestnut St., Franklin Gertrude J. Sanner, 35 Rockwell Ave., Oil City Anabel Hepler Schall, Venice, Fla., formerly of Oil City Lester H. Barber, 93, a resident of The Caring Place, Franklin, formerly of Leesburg, Fla., died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, in the Franklin facility. Born Jan. 24, 1913, in Shankles, once know as Puttstown , he was the son of William H. and Mabel Elsie Miller Barber. He was raised in Wilmington, Del. During World War II, Mr. Barber was a welder at the shipyard in Philadelphia. After that, he and his wife established a recreation trailer business and later expanded to include mobile homes. He retired in 1959 as a representative for Vagabond Travel Trailers. He and his wife traveled every state in the United States in their travel trailer. Mr. Barber was married Aug. 15, 1931, to Ruth Esther Wagner, who preceded him in death Oct. 11, 1996. Surviving are his brother-in-law and wife, John and Betty Wagner of Venus; and 50 nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Barber was preceded in death by one sister, Florence Proper; and two brothers, Nelson and Donald Barber. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Goble Funeral Home & Crematory, 330 Wood St., Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Alton L. Wagner officiating. Interment will follow in the Lutheran Cemetery in Shippenville. Roy S. Craig Roy S. Craig, 78, of Penn Street, Sligo, died Sunday evening, Sept. 30, 2007, in his residence. Born Feb. 23, 1929, in Callensburg, he was the son of the late Bus and Lottie Stover Craig. Mr. Craig worked as an operator in construction with Local 66, Operators Engineers Union. Surviving are two sons, William C. Craig of Pittsburgh and Richard R. Craig of East Brady; one daughter, Janet Moore of Sligo; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He also is survived by two brothers, William P. Craig of Sligo and Donald "Chirp" Craig of Clarion; and four sisters, Dean Baun of DuBois, Jackie Benn of Callensburg, Sally Hosey of Charleston, S.C., and Rebecca Harkless of Callensburg Mr. Craig was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lois Stahlman and Henriette Palago; and four infant children. There will be no visitation and funeral services will be held at a later date. The Goble Funeral Home & Crematory, 330 Wood St., Clarion, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice. David M. McElhattan, 46, of 1401 Chestnut St., Franklin, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born April 20, 1961, in Franklin, he was the son of Glenn R. "Dick" and Mary F. Master McElhattan. He graduated in 1979 from Rocky Grove High School and attended Behrend campus of Penn State University in Erie. Mr. McElhattan was employed at Kay's in Franklin, then for Crivelli Auto Sales and last as a machinist for Conair Inc. in Franklin. He loved all sports, especially high school, and was well-known in the area for coaching T-ball, Minor League baseball, Little League baseball, Franklin YMCA biddy basketball and girls softball. Mr. McElhattan also enjoyed his children, fishing, playing his guitar and his dog, Chopper. He married the former Shelley Snyder in the Fox Street Church of God, Rocky Grove, Oct. 23, 1982, and she survives. Also surviving are a son, Dustin Michael McElhattan, a student at Clarion University, and a daughter, Jessica Lynn McElhattan at home; two sisters, Brenda Sturtz and husband, Douglas, and their children, Ben and Alec, of Franklin and Dianne Pantelides and husband, Bill, and their son, Andrew, of Wendell, N.C.; a brother, Curtis McElhattan and wife, Teresa , and their children, Aric and Dan, of Oldsmar, Fla. He also is survived by his parents, Dick and Mary McElhattan, of Franklin; his maternal grandmother, Lillie Belle Master, of Sligo; two brothers-in-law, Tim Snyder and wife, Tammy, and their children, Matthew and Jamie, and Mark Snyder, and a sister-in-law, Pam Martin and husband, Bill, and their children, Dan and Alexa, all of Franklin; his mother-in-law, Leatrice Minnigh of Franklin and his father-in-law, Larry Snyder of Franklin. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in Grace United Methodist Church in Rocky Grove. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the church with the Rev. Ed Gresick, pastor, officiating. Interment will take place in the Franklin Cemetery. Bissell Ave., Oil City, 16301. Gertrude J. Sanner, 91, of 35 Rockwood Ave., Oil City, died at 12:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home after an extended illness. Born May 14, 1916, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Frank and Mary Hudanich Swasta. She attended Hasson Heights School and Lincoln Junior High School and graduated in 1935 from Oil City High School. Mrs. Sanner was employed for 35 years by the Oil City Hospital as an operating room technician, retiring in 1976. Her hobbies included hunting, gardening, canning and feeding the squirrels and birds in her backyard at home. Mrs. Sanner was a member of St. Joseph Church and was a life member of the PNA in Oil City. She was married in St. Joseph Church, Oil City, Aug. 4, 1938, to Julius A. Sanner, who preceded her in death July 26, 1997. Surviving are several nieces and nephews including Joan McGreevy, Marge Tarr and Dolores Skiba . In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Sanner was preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine Stover, Judy Baumgarten and an infant, Susan Swasta; and four brothers, George., Joe, John and Mike Swasta. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Reinsel Funeral Home, Oil City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Church with Msgr. John W. Swoger presiding. Entombment will follow in the Bishop McManaman Memorial Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oil City Presbyterian Home. Anabel Hepler Schall, 90, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Oil City, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, in the home of her daughter in Erie, surrounded by her loving family. Born Oct. 16, 1916, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Robert Earl and Alice Hepler. Mrs. Schall and her late husband, Jake Schall, moved to Oil City in 1951. She retired from Riverside Marked in Oil City after 26 years of faithful service. She enjoyed her retirement in Venice, Fla., playing golf and cards with her family and friends. Surviving are two daughters, Phyllis Vogt of Englewood, Fla., and Jackie Baumann and husband, Joseph, of Erie; seven grandchildren, Debbie Whitehurst, Christopher Baumann, BJ Baumann, Holly McLaughlin, John Baumann, Alison Keller and Cale Baumann; and 10 great-grandchildren ranging in age from 8 months to 26 years. She also is survived by two sisters, Zada Buckley of Arizona and Dorothy Tinsley of Erie; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Schall was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Wally Hepler; and two sisters, Hazel Hoffman and Wanda Stoltenberg. Services were held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery. Arrangements are in charge of the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 602 West 10th S., Erie.
