"Toots" Biddle, 91, formerly of Seneca, died at 2:02 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Sugar Creek Station. Born April 5, 1913, in DuBois, she was the daughter of the late Estella Rosetta Kessler and Peter Furman Dunlap. She attended Oil City High School and lived in the Oil City and Seneca areas all her life. Mrs. Biddle worked as a private home housekeeper in Oil City. She was also a waitress/hostess at the original Arlington Hotel and worked on the assembly line at Continental Can Co. She was a member of the Seneca Volunteer Fire Department auxiliary. Mrs. Biddle was a homemaker who enjoyed her children and cooking. She was also an avid hunter. She was married Aug. 27, 1937, to John Robert Biddle, who died May 3, 1995. Mrs. Biddle is survived by two sons, Robert B. Biddle and his wife, Jody, and William W. Biddle and his wife, Susie, all of Seneca; a daughter, Susie J. Blair and her husband, Gary, of Franklin; and six grandchildren, Casey, Erin and Cody Biddle, all of Seneca, Lane Biddle of Hiram, Utah, and Bobby and Stacy Hawkins of Franklin. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn, Vernon and Wesley Dunlap; and two sisters, Lorna Conrad and Eva Kephart. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Hutchinson Funeral Home, 201 Bissell Ave. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Rhoda Girts Rhoda Girts of Bouch Lane, Clarion, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004. She was married to Samuel H. Girts Sr., who died Sept. 29, 2003. A complete obituary will be published Monday in The Derrick. Edward L. Jolly Edward L. Jolly, 68, of 370 W. State St., Pleasantville, died at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at his residence. Born Sept. 8, 1936, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Samuel A. and Mamie Stover Jolly. He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was discharged Feb. 28, 1975, with the rank of technical sergeant. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Jolly was employed by Joy Manufacturing in Franklin for eight years. He then was employed as a truck driver for J&J Trucking and Madden Trucking. He spent a short time working for Northwest Busing and was last employed driving the CATA bus in Titusville for eight years until his retirement. He was a member of Bruce Shorts Post No. 5958 of the VFW. Mr. Jolly enjoyed tinkering and fixing small machines. He was married Oct. 18, 1982 at the Rocky Grove Pilgrim Holiness Parsonage to the former Geraldine Ohler Ritchey, and she survives. Also surviving are three stepsons, Harry P. Ritchey and his wife, Kathy, of Lisbon, Domer H. Ritchey and his wife, Becky, of Emlenton, and Lewis A. Ritchey and his wife, Patty, of Franklin; two stepdaughters, Judy Woods and her husband, Steven, of Venus, and Jane McWilliams of Pleasantville; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Also surviving are three brothers, James A. Jolly of Wallaceville and Stanley and Lawrence Jolly, both of Titusville; one sister, Sarah Bish and her husband, Lewis, of New Bethlehem; a close friend, Frank L. Helmbold of Titusville; numerous nieces and nephews; and his two dogs, Foxy and Buddy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jolly was preceded in death by his first wife, Deloris Gomes, who died Dec. 7, 1980; and a daughter, Nancy Diane Jolly, who died in 1984. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul F. Baker, pastor of Rocky Grove Pilgrim Holiness Church, officiating. David Michael "Mike" Lawrence David Michael "Mike" Lawrence, 50, of Route 322, Brookville, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at the Presbyterian Medical Center, Pittsburgh. Born May 12, 1954, in Brookville, he was the son of Newell Ross and Blossom Strattan Lawrence of Corbett Street, Clarion. He was a 1973 graduate of Clarion Area High School, and he graduated from Williamsport Community College with a major in diesel mechanics. Mr. Lawrence was employed at Stockdales Mine Supply Inc. in Punxsutawney. He enjoyed hunting, horse racing and rebuilding antique tractors and automobiles. Mr. Lawrence was married Aug. 29, 1981, in Clarion, to the former Debra Oaks, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Lawrence is survived by a son, Jason Lawrence of Brookville; a daughter, Bria Lawrence of Brookville; his mother of Clarion; two sisters, Karen Fraizer of Clarion and Rozlyn Beerbower of Atlanta; and his mother-in-law, Betty Oaks of Brookville. He was preceded in death by his father; his father-in-law, Newell Bus Oaks; and a brother, Gary Lawrence. Luke, 88, of Grand Valley, died at 11:58 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Titusville Area Hospital following from a brief illness. Born May 13, 1916, in Pineville, Southwest Township, Warren County, he was the son of the late Harry and May Wright Luke. He graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1935. Mr. Luke was formerly employed as a foreman for Quaker State Oil Refinery Corp. He was also an independent oil producer. He was a board member for the Neilltown Cemetery Association. He was a former member of the Pinecreek Sportsman's Club, the YMCA bowling league and the Titusville Area School Board. He was active as a committeeman for the Warren County Republican Party. Mr. Luke was included in an article written in the June 1978 issue of National Geographic regarding the Pennsylvania oil industry. He was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, riding his four-wheeler and tending his oil leases. He was married June 26, 1948, to the former Mary Conway, who died Jan. 21, 1999. Mr. Luke is survived by two children, Gloria Luke Roberts of DuBois and Clark L. Luke and his wife, Rhonda, of Grand Valley; three grandchildren, Adam B. Luke with the U.S. Air Force in California, Alycia Luke of Emlenton and Andrew C. Luke of Grand Valley; two sisters, Estella Hoovler of Pleasantville and Florence Beers of Grand Valley; and several nieces and nephews. Richard Eugene McMunn Richard Eugene McMunn, 52, of 1128 West First St., Oil City, died at 2:27 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh following an extended illness. Thompson, 84, of 507 Grant St., Reynoldsville, died at 3:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at her home. Born Jan. 8, 1920, in Winslow Township, she was the daughter of the late Cartie and Dora Clauson Clontz. She was a licensed practical nurse, graduating in the second class from Jeff Tech in Reynoldsville. Mrs. Thompson was a former employee of Camron Mfg., Maple Avenue Hospital and Christ the King Manor. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Reynoldsville, the Eagles and the American Legion auxiliary. Mrs. Thompson enjoyed reading, needlework and collecting music boxes. She was married Feb. 5, 1938, to Arthur E. Thompson, who died Dec. 5, 1996. Mrs. Thompson is survived by three daughters, Joyce A. Kline and Janet L. Martin, both of Reynoldsville, and Joan C. Miller of Hatteras, N.C.; 11 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James; and a great-grandson, Amos Kersey. Norman Wallace Norman Wallace, 78, of 755 Pine Terrace, Shippenville, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, following a brief illness. He was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and raised in Pittsburgh. Mr. Wallace served in both World War II and the Korean War. He worked as a sports announcer for several community radio stations including WWCH in Clarion, and he also served as sports editor for the Clarion News. He also worked as a page in the state House of Representatives. Mr. Wallace recently celebrated 15 years as sales manager for the Traveler's News, a publication of the Southern Clarion County Development Corp. He was an active community resident and past president of the Clarion Chamber of Commerce and past executive director of the United Way. He was a member of the Kittanning Elks. He was married to the former Constance Wallace for 52 years, and she survives. A private family service was held in Squirrel Hill. The family suggests contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
