Watson, Rockland Constance Angelo Felicia Troilo, Franklin Maurice E. "Mort" Borger Maurice E. "Mort" Borger, 85, of 109 W. Third St., Oil City, died at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, in Saint Vincent Health Center, Erie. Born Nov. 28, 1917, in Plum Township, he was the son of Myrl and Gertrude Reib Borger. After working in his younger years at various sawmills throughout northwestern Pennsylvania, Mr. Borger graduated from the National Hardwood Grader School in Memphis, Tenn. He then spent many years as a lumber inspector through the Midwest. In 1971, Mr. Borger and his family returned to Franklin where he took over as general manager of Big Value Builders on 15th St. Upon his retirement in 1983, Mr. Borger and his wife, Dorothy, enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States and other regions. They wintered for 15 years in Mesa, Ariz. Mr. Borger was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Seneca, the Franklin B.P.O Elks No. 110 and the Franklin Moose Lodge. He was an avid golfer and hunter and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Borger was an accomplished amateur photographer who spent many years filming his family at various functions, both in still photos and on video. He was married July 31, 1940, to Dorothy M. Brink, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Daniel W. Borger and wife, Hannah, of Mesa, Ariz., and Rodney K. Borger and wife, Bonnie, and Wanda L. Corbett and husband, Jack, all of Franklin; eight grandchildren, Mark Borger and wife, Dawn, and Jennifer Totaro and husband, Lawrence, all of Irwin; Rebecca Hines and husband, William, Jeffrey Corbett and fiancee, Tammy Reitz, and Tracy Martin, all of Franklin, Jon Corbett and wife, Barbara, of Lerona, W.Va., Dr. Wendy Corbett and husband, Harold T. Fink III of Lebanon, N.J., and Dana Borger and wife, Judy, of Apex, N.C.; and 22 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two brothers, Edward Borger of Franklin and Wallace Borger of Santa Fe, N.M.; several nieces and nephews; four brothers-in-law, Glen Brink Jr. and wife, Alice, and Robert Reed, all of Cooperstown, James Brink and wife, Pauline, of Butler and Richard Brink and wife, Jennifer, of Las Vegas, Nev.; and six sisters-in-law, Shirley Borger and Penny Jo Procter and husband, Robert, all of Franklin, Betty Borger and Marge Borger, both of Albuquerque, N.M., Betty Deets and husband, Richard, of Cochranton, and Patricia Rodgers and husband, John, of Cooperstown. In addition to his parents, Mr. Borger was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard "Hick" Borger, Billy Borger and Neil "Johnny" Borger; three sisters, Marion Boal, Susan Mihleder and Geraldine Brink; two brothers-in-law, Scott Mihleder and F.E. Bowen, 74, of 642 Liberty St., Franklin, died at 8:59 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, following an extended illness. Born Oct. 27, 1929, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Bernard and Jane Reagle McGinty. She attended the former Sacred Heart School in Franklin and was a 1947 graduate of Franklin High School. Mrs. Bowen was a member of St. Patrick Church, Franklin, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was an avid card player with a particular interest in playing bridge. Mrs. Bowen was married in St. Patrick Church, Franklin, Jan. 3, 1948, to Edward M. Bowen, who survives. They celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in January of this year. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are three daughters, Patricia Bowen Johnson and husband, Wayne, of Chandler, Ariz., Teresa Bowen Rishel and husband, Darrell, of Springfield, Ohio, and Mary Jane Bowen Hamid and husband, Akhtar, of San Ramon, Calif.; three sons, Michael Bowen and wife, Renee, of Marietta, Ga., Jim Bowen and wife, Joann, of Washington, Pa., and John Bowen and wife, Mary, of Erie; and seven grandchildren, Ryan Rishel and wife, Nancy, of Strongville, Ohio, Jonathan Rishel and wife, Jessica, of Warren, Ohio, P.J. Rishel of Niles, Ohio, Meghan and Kelsey Bowen, both of Marietta, Ga., and John and Rachel Bowen, both of Erie. She also is survived by two sisters, Carol Rios and husband, Joe, of East Petersburg and Ann Hibshman and husband, John, of Lititz. Rhonda Ann Smith Girts Rhonda Ann Smith Girts, 65, of Bouch Lane, Clarion, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, in the Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Feb. 1, 1939, in Punxsutawney, she was the daughter of Marion Clair and Dorothy Dora Coleman Smith. Mrs. Girts was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, cooking, puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren and her loving cat, Mittens. She was married April 2, 1960, to Samuel H. Girts Sr., who died Sept. 29, 2003. Surviving are two sons, Philip L. Girts of Fayetteville, Ga., and Samuel H. Girts Jr. of Clarion; four daughters, Cathy L. Vossburg of Shippenville, Kelly A. Minich of New Bethlehem, Kimberly S. Girts of Buffalo, N.Y., and Amy B. William Wayne Grimm William Wayne Grimm, 84, of Water Run Road, Clarion, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at the home of his daughter on Liberty Street, Clarion. Born Oct. 25. 1919, in Coshocton, Ohio, he was the son of George W. and Helen Rosalind Henderson Grimm. He served in the 3rd Marine Division during World War II. Mr. Grimm retired in 1980 as foreman in the decorating department at Owens-Illinois. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Clarion, the American Legion Post No. 66, the Quarter Century Club and the Golden Emblem Club. Mr. Grimm enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was married in Kittanning Oct. 9, 1938, to Virginia Lee Callen, who survives. They were married 66 years. Heckman, 61, of Corsica, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, in Brookville Hospital. A. Lee Hockman A. Lee Hockman, 74, 123 N. First St., Shippenville, died at 2:25 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at his home after a six-month battle with brain cancer. Born Oct. 21, 1929, in Pinegrove Township, he was the son of Fred and Harriet Craig Hockman. Mr. Hockman owned and operated his furniture store, A. Lee Hockman Carpet & Furniture, Main Street, Shippenville, for 30 years until his illness. He was still laying carpet and vinyl the first of March. He had previously worked for Fallers Furniture in Fryburg, Oil Well Supply in Oil City and Rural Telephone Co. of Knox. He also enjoyed painting houses and had painted for many customers over the years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a corporal in Germany. Mr. Hockman was a member of St. Michael Church in Fryburg, a past member of the Knights of Columbus and currently was a member of the Knox Lions Club and The Club 20 Stock Club in Fryburg. He had served Shippenville Borough over the years in various offices and committees on Borough Council and as mayor. He was a member of council until his illness prevented him from attending meetings. Mr. Hockman enjoyed his children and grandchildren and Leesa's Day Care Kids where he could often be found. He also enjoyed feeding and watching birds, gardening and puttering in his garages. His store and his customers brought him much happiness, as did telling jokes and crazy stories. Mr. Hockman was married May 30, 1953, to the former Sarah "Sally" Baughman, who survives. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a surprise party in May 2003. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five children and their spouses and 14 grandchildren: Dave and Linda (Hockman) Duffee, Dustin, Erin and Derek of Shippenville; Doug and Cheryl "Chery" (Hockman) Rodgers, Steven, Marie, and Sarah of Oil City; Leesa (Hockman) Knight, Jamie, Mike, Chuck and Robbie of Shippenville; Anthony " Tony" and Julie (Dechant) Hockman, Andy, Adam of Shippenville; and Timothy and Sheila (Hall) Hockman, Phaedra and Phylicia of Clarion. He also is survived by two sisters, Jean Davis of Fertigs and Grace Confer and husband, Pat, of Mercer; a sister-in-law, Peg Hockman of Coal Hill; a brother-in-law, Jack Baughman and wife, Marlys, of Wentlings Corners; and 14 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dan Hockman; and in-laws, Ross Davis and Harold "Red" Blauser. McElhaney, 84, of 41 Eagle St., Greenville, died at 12:20 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness. Born Sept. 26, 1919, in Sandy Lake, Millcreek Township, she was the daughter of Herbert R. and Ida McIntire Gilliland. Mrs. McElhaney was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greenville. She was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 140 and a member of the 8-40 Partners of Mercer County. Mrs. McElhaney attended the Senior Citizen Center at St. Paul Homes. She was married Sept. 9, 1960, to Charles T. McElhaney, who died Dec. 23, 1982. Surviving are two sisters, Wilda Gilliland and Esther Gilliland, both of Sandy Lake; and many nieces and nephews. Richard Eugene McMunn Richard Eugene McMunn, 52, of 1128 W. First St., Oil City, died at 2:27 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, following an extended illness. Born March 16, 1952, in Franklin, he was the son of the late Charles McMunn and Margaret "Peggy" Lawson. He attended Harborcreek Area Schools. Mr. McMunn had been an inspector with the United Steel Workers of America before going on disability. His interests included music, outdoor activities and being around family. Surviving are his fiancee, Melinda Pierce of Oil City; five children, Richard McMunn Jr. and fiancee, Lisa, of Erie, Misty Beshaw and husband, Rick; Chastity Potts and husband, Jack, Brad Joseph McMunn and wife, Jennifer, and Terry Lee McMunn, all of Oil City; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Verne was retired from Brockway Glass. She was an avid caregiver and enjoyed taking care of everyone. She enjoyed reading, gardening and bird watching. Mrs. Verne was a member of St. Tobias Church in Brockway and the Rosary Society of the church. She was married to Matthew J. Verne, who died Jan. 11, 1999. Surviving are two sons, Matthew Verne of Clarion and Rick Verne of Brockway; two daughters, Judy Verne of Brockway and Karen Drayer of DuBois; and one grandson, Matthew. Watson, 74, of Rockland, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness. Born Jan. 12, 1930, in Rocky Grove, he was the son of Arthur L. and Della Neely Watson. Mr. Watson was retired from Timberline Packaging in Knox. He previously worked in construction and drove truck. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Watson enjoyed coon hunting, farming, playing chess and his grandchildren. He was married in October 1965 to Betty DeLoe Burgdorfer, who survives. Also surviving are six sons, Martin Burdorfer of Kennerdell, Clyde Burgdorfer of Emlenton and Gerald Burgdorfer, Cilfford Burgdorfer and wife, Marcy, William Watson and Floyd Watson and wife, Emily, all of Rockland; three daughters, Rosalie Kunselman of Emlenton and Mabel Bechtel and husband, Timothy, and Rita Ison and husband, Shawn, all of Rockland; 21 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two brothers, Arthur Watson Jr. and wife, Marilyn, of Magnolia, Texas, and Louis Watson and wife, Ruby, of Niles, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Burgdorfer of Polk; and numerous nieces and nephews.
