Ericson, Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Seneca Leroy L. Graham Jr., East State Road, Seneca Judith Ann Neal, Valier, Pa. Wallace A. "Tater" Shaffer, Brookville Linda Louise Troxell, Route 322, Shippenville Gladys Kathryn McDowell Warner, formerly of 601 Wiley Ave., Rocky Grove Richard Eugene Chadman, 81, of Lamartine, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at Clarion Hospital. Born June 13, 1926, in Lamartine, Clarion County, he was a son of the late John Arthur and M. Evelyn Gates Chadman. Mr. Chadman graduated from Salem Township High School in 1944. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from October 1946 thru October 1949. He served with the 114th Signal Service Company and was a radio message decoder in occupied Germany. He was also a rifle expert. Mr. Chadman retired from Knox Glass in 1985 after 33 years of service. He was a member of Salem Reformed United Church of Christ in Lamartine, DeHart-Rossman-Wenner American Legion Post 997 of Lamartine, the National Rifle Association and Glass Bottle Union Local 55. Mr. Chadman loved the outdoors. He grafted trees and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, airplanes and all types of machinery. He was known for fixing anything electronic, mechanical and welding. He traveled to many states, including Alaska. Mr. Chadman married the former Margaret T. Ritts on Nov. 10, 1950, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Chadman is survived by four sons, Kenneth Chadman and his wife, Mary Alice, of Cooperstown, Dennis Chadman and his wife, Carol, of Chicora, Steven Chadman of Lamartine and Ronald Chadman of Culpepper, Va; and one daughter, Karen Wedekind and her husband, Steven, of Knox. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, Kathy, Shabahn, Joe, Sheila, Jim, Paul, Keith, Todd, Kayla and Taylor Chadman, and Scott, Bryan and Kyle Wedekind. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Chadman, in 1944. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the William N. Rupert Mortuary Inc. of Knox. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Chris Lewis, pastor of Salem Reformed United Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Reformed Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Salem Reformed Church of Christ or the charity of one's choice. Richard Edgar Deets, 84, formerly of the Franklin area, owner of Deets Electric and Refrigeration, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, in his Hobe Sound, Fla., residence following a courageous battle with cancer. Born May 19, 1923, in Wyattville, he was a son of the late Samuel and Vera Gheres Deets. A 1941 graduate of Franklin High School, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, doing a tour of duty in Okinawa during World War II. After his discharge from the military, he graduated at the top of his class in electrical and refrigeration trade schools in Chicago, earning an education that prepared him for a career in residential and commercial electrical and refrigeration contracting that spanned seven decades. A member of Canal Wesleyan Methodist Church, Mr. Deets' main concerns were serving God with a focus on worldwide missions and providing for his family, priorities from which he never strayed. He was married Sept. 7, 1944, to the love of his life, Betty Fae Brink of Cooperstown She survives along with three children and their spouses, Stephen and Joanna Deets of Florence, Ky., Pamela and Judson Miller of Summerdale, Ala., and Barry and Robin Deets of Port Saint Lucie, Fla.; three granddaughters, Angela Deets of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Heather Seta and Allison Barker, both of Florence, Ky.; and three grandsons, Travis Miller of Foley, Ala., Kurtis Miller of Summerdale, Ala., and Dominic Deets of Port Saint Lucie, Fla. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Joseph and Nicholas Seta and Makayla Barker, all of Florence, Ky.; four brothers, William, James, Samuel and Donald, all of Hannaville, Canal Township; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Bell; and a toddler brother, Robert. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Canal Wesleyan Methodist Church, Hannaville, with the Rev. Domenick Pietro, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, and full military burial rites will be accorded by members of the V.E.T.S. Funeral Honor Guard. Eugene Dickert Sr. Eugene Dickert Sr., 86, of Franklin, died early Tuesday morning, Dec. 25, 2007, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. The Huff Chapel in Franklin is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Thursday in The News-Herald. Angeline Rose DiStefano, 88, of Vowinckel, died Sunday evening, Dec. 23, 2007, at Clarion Hospital. Born June 15, 1919, at Catanzaro, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Angelo and Rose Aeillo Falvo. She came to the U.S. when she was eight years old and lived in Johnstown. Mrs. DiStefano ran the Vowinckel Hotel for 26 years with her husband, retiring in 1976. She then worked part-time for her son at Vince's Tavern in Leeper after retiring. She was a member of St. Mary Church in Crown and the Leeper Garden Club. She enjoyed cooking and music. She married Anthony DiStefano on Dec. 6, 1946, at St. Anthony Church in Johnstown, and he preceded her in death Oct. 12, 2004. Mrs. DiStefano is survived by two sons, Vince DiStefano of Leeper and Tom DiStefano and his wife, Nancy, of Clarion; one brother, Vincent Falvo and his wife, Mary, of Johnstown; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony; and a daughter-in-law, Georgette. Ericson, 94, of Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Seneca, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at the Manzano del Sol Good Samarian Village, Albuquerque. Born July 16, 1913, in DuBois, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Augusta "Gussie" Swales Wineberg. Mrs. Ericson was the former director of the children's choir at Zion Lutheran Church in Oil City. She will be remembered for her hospitality, love of music, wonderful meals and baked goods, especially her sticky buns. On May 9, 1932, in DuBois, she married Martin Ericson, who preceded her in death in 2001. Mrs. Ericson is survived by two sons, Martin Ericson and his wife, Ruth, of Albuquerque, and Leif Ericson and his wife, Peggy, of Windsor, Pa.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her generation and was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and five sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mohney-Yarger Funeral Chapel, 142 West Long Ave., DuBois, with the Rev. John A. Wood officiating. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery. Online tributes may be made at www.mem.com Judith Ann Neal Judith Ann Neal, 65, of 330 Mahoning St., Valier, Pa., died of natural causes Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. Born July 27, 1942, in Franklin, she was the daughter of the late Albert Leo Cozad and Mabel Violet Weaver Cozad. Mrs. Neal was a caregiver, and she was a member of the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Company auxiliary. She was first married to Larry P. Springer, then she married Robert W. Neal on Oct. 2, 1965, and he survives in Valier. Mrs. Neal is also survived by one son, Terry Springer of Franklin; three daughters, Bonnie Herman of Woodbridge, Va., Dawn Williams of Reynoldsville and Barbara Conklin; six brothers, Albert Cozad, Braden Cozad, Michael Cozad and George Cozad, all of Franklin, Philip Cozad of Cranberry and William Cozad of Hermitage; three sisters, Christine Chittester of Seneca, Rose Dunkle of Titusville and Karen Stimpson of Camarilla, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Scott Springer; one daughter, Lisa Springer; one brother, Donald K. Cozad; and one sister, Barbara Jane Hunsberger. Wallace A. "Tater" Shaffer Jr., 85, of 94 Crestwood Circle, Brookville, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at Jefferson Manor Health Center in Brookville. Born Oct. 2, 1922, in Sigel, he was the son of Wallace A. Shaffer and Catherine Asel. Mr. Shaffer was employed as a well tender for more than 30 years for National Fuel Gas. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed Christmas. Mr. Shaffer was a past member of Sigel Volunteer Fire Department. He was first married to June Uplinger, and she preceded him in death. He then married Velma Jane Shaffer in Timblin on June 5, 1954, and she preceded him in death Jan. 29, 2000. Mr. Shaffer is survived by two sons and four daughters, Charles R. Adams and his wife, Patricia, of Albion, Mrs. Robert (Cheryl A.) Henretty of Springboro, Linda J. Hooks and her companion, Bill Wible, of Greenville, George A. Shaffer and his wife, Dorcas, of Reston, Va., Mrs. James (Carla J.) Yurisic of Saxonburg and Mrs. Terry (Carol D.) Schuckers of Brookville. Also surviving are one sister, Iva Catherine Moore of Titusville; three brothers, Clyde G. "Shavey" Shaffer of Bethesda, Md., Banks W. "Bunk" Shaffer of Brockport and Donald L. "Colonel" Shaffer of Punxsutawney; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Linda Louise Troxell Linda Louise Troxell, 49, of Route 322, Shippenville, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, in the emergency room at Clarion Hospital after a sudden illness. Gladys McDowell Warner Gladys Kathryn McDowell Warner, 83, formerly of 601 Wiley Ave., Rocky Grove, died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 23, 2007, at the home of her daughter, Jocelyn Davis of 3680 Eaglerock Drive, Doraville, Ga., after a long illness. Born March 2, 1924, in Franklin, she was a daughter of the late H. Carl and Kathryn Kerr Watson. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1940 and attended the Franklin Business School from 1940-41 and the Spencer Hospital School of Nursing from 1941-42. Mrs. Warner worked at Exchange Bank as a bookkeeper from 1943-45 and was a Welcome Wagon hostess from 1968-78. She was a member of Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, elder and trustee. She also served in various positions with the Lake Erie Presbytery. Mrs. Warner served on the Franklin Hospital board, and she volunteered for many years with the Franklin Hospital auxiliary, the DeBence Antique Music Museum and the Caring Place. She married Glenn S. McDowell on May 15, 1945, and he died July 22, 1985. She then married Edmund M. Warner on Oct. 28, 2000, and he died Feb. 11, 2004. Mrs. Warner is survived by four children, Kathryn Prevo and her husband, David, of Windsor, Vt., Jocelyn Davis and her husband, Jeff, of Doraville, Ga., Glenn McDowell Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Franklin, and Gary McDowell and his wife, Karen, of Woodruff, S.C.; nine grandchildren, Leanne Rodd of Boston, Mass., Jennifer Prevo of Boston, Amanda Davis of Atlanta, Ga., Benjamin Davis of Atlanta, Shelley Carpenter of Liberty, S.C., Katie Farrell of Simpsonville, S.C., Mark McDowell of Inman, S.C., Rebecca McDowell of Greer, S.C., and Haley Latshaw of Raleigh, N.C.; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, the Rev. Clinton L. Wasson of Anderson, Ind.; the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donagene DeLong of Franklin, Dudley Warner of Meadville, David Warner of Palmyra and Earla Adams of Leesburg, Fla.; and the following daughters-in-law and sons-in-law, David Warner of Franklin, Beth Warner of Nantucket, Mass., and Patty Mellring of Cochranton.
