Powell, Franklin Antonina "Nina" Campagna-Chapman, 90, of Youngstown, Ohio, formerly of Franklin, died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007. Born Oct. 22, 1917, in Franklin, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Frances Campagna. She worked for Hills Department Store from 1964 until she retired in 1984. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, political discussions, reading books, her morning coffee and the daily newspaper. She and her family appreciated the constant care, love and support she received the last two years from the East Wing staff at Omni Manor in Youngstown. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and she is survived by one sister, Mary Hutchenson of Eustis, Fla.; one son, Lee Chapman of Youngstown; one daughter, Margaret Chapman of Murrieta, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Amy and Mark Chapman of Boardman, Ohio. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael, Vincent and Francis Campagna. A private service and interment will be held at St. Patrick Cemetery in Franklin. Margaret Criswell "Peg" Davis, 95, an active member of the Emlenton civic community and a retired school teacher, died at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at UPMC Northwest following a brief illness. Born Dec. 3, 1912, in Emlenton, she was the daughter of Fleming B. and Hattie May Criswell. Mrs. Davis was a 1930 graduate of Emlenton High School. She attended Slippery Rock University and received her teaching degree from Clarion University. Mrs. Davis' teaching career spanned 26 years, having taught at Kensington Grant Farm School in Emlenton, Emlenton High School, the Mars School District and Rocky Grove High School. She retired in 1975 from Rocky Grove, where she taught seventh-grade English. She was a life member of the NEA and PSEA and the PSAR of Venango County. She was also a life member of RSVP, and she was a lifelong member of Emlenton Presbyterian Church as well as the church's oldest member. She had served the church as a deacon. Mrs. Davis was a Golden Star member and past matron of the former Emlenton Chapter, now Parker Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She was the first mother advisor of both the Emlenton and Mars Order of Rainbow Assembly for Girls. Mrs. Davis was very instrumental with the building of the Emlenton Medical Center, serving on the medical center's board of directors as secretary until the time of her death. She was a member of the Emlenton Civic Club and past president of the Emlenton Area Over 55 Club. She enjoyed sports, especially bowling in the women's league, and she was a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers. Mrs. Davis was married in Knox on June 17, 1935, to James Clark Davis, who preceded her in death on March 10, 1998. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Kathryn Perry and her husband, Darrell, of La Plata, Md., and Peggy Wisneski and her husband, Raymond, of Portage, Ind.; one son and his wife, James C. Davis II and his wife, Ruth, of Emlenton; and nine grandchildren, Gregory Perry, Lori Perry Daugherty, Richard Wisneski, Lynne Wisneski Clumb, Kimberly Wisneski Croarkin, James Clark Davis III, John Davis, Jeffrey Davis and Jason Davis. Also surviving are two step-grandchildren, David and Gregory O'Brien; one nephew, Robert F. Criswell Jr. and his wife, Jan, of Lititz; 12 great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. Mrs. Davis was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Bessie Reichart; one brother, Robert F. Born April 30, 1922, in Grove City, she was a daughter of Vern and Gladys Mason Peters. She graduated from Rocky Grove High School. Mrs. Finch enjoyed doing floral arranging in her home and had helped at Phillips Flowers in Franklin. She also worked in the hospitality shop in the Franklin Hospital. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines and had volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She married Fred Finch on Aug. 29, 1941, and he died Dec. 30, 1997. Mrs. Finch is survived by two daughters, Charlene Kratzer and her husband, Ken, of Seneca, and Shari Hart of Franklin; three sons, Larry Finch and his wife, Barb, of Oil City, Don Finch of Pittsburgh and Fredy Finch Jr. of Alabama; and nine grandchildren, Vicki O'Day and her husband, Steve, of Shippenville, Kim Hartzell and her husband, Steve, of Oil City, Brian Tarr and his wife, Julie, of Franklin, Wendy Weiss and her husband, Jeff, of Franklin, Lindsay Hart of Pittsburgh, Ryan Hart of Franklin, Jeffrey Finch and his wife, Tami, of Saegertown, Tammy Alexander of Long Island, N.Y., and Fredy Finch III of Alabama. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Webster of Oil City and Dixie Hornburg of Phoenix, Ariz,; one brother, Robert Peters and his wife, Betsey, of Mesa, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. Helen Diane George, 53, of 2598 Bredinsburg Road, Cranberry Township, died at 4:27 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, in Meadville Medical Center following an illness. Born May 25, 1954, in New Brighton, Beaver County, she was a daughter of the late Gale and Mary Lou Watts Farrow. She attended the New Brighton area schools. Mrs. George was a homemaker most of her life, and she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, making latch hook rugs and most especially the fun times she and her family and friends would have camping. She was of the Protestant faith. Mrs. George was married to Ralph N. Peterson, and he survives. Also surviving are four children, Sue Farrow and her fiance, Dale Kilgore, of Franklin, Wray Lynn George and her fiance, Dewayne Colwell, also of Franklin, Raymond George Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of Clarion, and Eileen George and her fiance, Robert Kilgore, of Cooperstown; and 14 grandchildren, Brandon George, Travis and Trey Corbett, Ashley and Nikole Brown, Gregory Colwell, Stephanie, Raymond III, Hunter and Olivia George, Merissa, Alexis and Brittany Kilgore, and Bailey Bellerive. Mrs. George is also survived by her stepmother, Helen Farrow of Freedom; her stepfather, Robert Watts of Ohio; one sister and one brother, Karen Romian of West Middlesex and Raymond Farrow of Freedom; and one stepsister, Diana Martin and her husband, Jack, of Georgia. Lindsey, 84, of Erie, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at Twinbrook Medical Center in Erie. Born Aug. 27, 1923, in Franklin, he was the son of the late Jay and Vernie Vogan Lindsey. He had resided in Erie since 1953. Mr. Lindsey was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church and the Siebenbuerger Club, both in Erie. He was employed in the supply department of Hamot Hospital for 13 years, retiring in 1985. He had worked prrior to that at Eckerd's Drug Store in Erie. Mr. Lindsey was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ehrhart Lindsey; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by one sister, Isabelle Rhodes. A complete obituary will be published Friday in The Derrick. Hazel I. McElhattan, 95, of Knox, died early Wednesday morning, Dec. 5, 2007, at Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo. Born Nov. 30, 1912, in Emlenton, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Eula Ashbaugh Whitling. She married Gerald E. McElhattan on April 13, 1941, and he preceded her in death on June 16, 1983. Mrs. McElhattan was a homemaker and an Avon representative for many years. As a young girl, she delivered milk from her father's dairy around the Emlenton area by horse and wagon. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church. She was a great cook and enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Mrs. McElhattan is survived by two sons, Eugene McElhattan and his wife, Doris, of Anacontos, Wash., and Clifford McElhattan of Knox; four grandchildren, Matthew McElhattan and his wife, Annie, of San Francisco, Calif., Melissa Guenther and her husband, Chad, of Pensacola, Fla., Micah McElhattan and his friend, Sarah Krear, of Knox; and Tara Lynn Armstrong of Clarion. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Alex Guenther and Rebecca Guenther, both of Pensacola, Fla., and Brenna Armstrong of Clarion; two sisters-in-law, Irene Whitling of Knox and Esther Ashbaugh of Emlenton; and Kathy Kristek, whom she took into her home. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. McElhattan was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Cletus; two sisters, Alberta Ritts and Mary Bartlett; and Anna Nettles, whom she also took into her home. Powell, 76, of Franklin, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at UPMC Northwest. Born Oct. 29, 1931, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of John and Agnes Powell. Mr. Powell joined the U.S. Navy in 1950 and served in the Korean Conflict. He served on the USS Oriskany. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and China Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1955 from Fleet Aircraft Service Squadron Five. Mr. Powell was employed at General Manifold and Printing from 1955-1959. He then went to work in 1959 at Venango Newspapers as circulation manager and later as classified manager. He retired in 1987. He and his wife have been co-owners of Brustle's Lawn Ornaments since his retirement. In 1974, Mr. Powell was a charter member of the Venango County Barbertones. He was also a tenor in the Gospel Harmonaires and the Fireside Harmony Quartets. Mr. Powell was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and he enjoyed walking in the woods with his dog, Tinker, spending time with his grandchildren, reading and doing puzzles. Mr. Powell was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Franklin, where he sang in the church choir. He was married April 28, 1956, in Lamartine to the former Bertha Brustle, and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Cathleen Tolzmann of Indianapolis and Carolyn Lang of New Port Beach, Calif.; two sons, John Powell and wife, Cathy, of Slippery Rock, and Edward Powell and wife, Rhonda, of Cranberry; three grandchildren, Kelsey, Garrett and Emily Powell; and one step-grandson, Eric McVay. Also surviving are two brothers, Niles Powell and wife, Cathy, of Emlenton, and Richard Powell and wife, Astrid, of Colorado; and two sisters, Betty Anderton of Linesville and Alice Shoup and her husband, Ron, of Oil City.
