Bashline, 85, formerly of Shannon Drive, Clarion, died Thursday afternoon, Dec. 13, 2007, in the Golden Living Center, Clarion. Sylvenus Harris, 78, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Oil City and Summerville, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, after a long illness. He was born April 12, 1929, in Oil City, the son of Dock and Susie A. Brown Harris, and was raised in Summerville. Mr. Harris was married for nearly 60 years to Annie L. Moore, who survives. Also surviving are his sons, Larry T. Harris and wife, Rain, M. Sgt. Paul Harris and wife, Elisa V., Sr. Chief Sylvenus S. Harris, retired, Timothy T. Harris and wife, Marlys, Robert N. Harris and wife, Autumn, and Joseph B. Harris and wife, Becca; two daughters, Susie Ann Harris and Marianne Harris-Beneli and husband, Ido; grandchildren, Jason and wife, Jennifer, David, Sylvenus S. Harris II, Cooper, Parker and Caleb; and great-grandchildren, Selena and Olivia Harris. He also is survived by a sister, Vera Ruth Harris Dunk; and a sister-in-law, Alice Harris. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris was preceded in death by a sister, Maude M. Christianson; and brothers. Doc Edward, Romaine and Theodore. Koszalka Stella G. Koszalka, 91, a resident of the Golden Living Center, Oil City, formerly of 3 Chatauqua Court and 203 Clarion St., Oil City, died at 12:35 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, after an extended illness. Born April 20, 1916, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Ignatius and Waleria Siebielec Koszalka. She attended both the Assumption BVM Grade School and Oil City Senior High School. Miss Koszalka's first position was with Mr. Weber in the Oil City Engineers office. She then worked at F.W. Woolworth's and went on to retire from both Oil Well Supply and Sylvania. She was a member of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Miss Koszalka loved to cook and to go shopping with family and friends. Surviving are one brother and his wife, Alexander and Jane Koszalka of Port Charlotte, Fla.; one sister, Wanda Clancy of Palm Bay, Fla.; a sister in-law, Donna Koszalka of Oil City; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Julia Koszalka; and two brothers, Edmund and Chester Koszalka. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Bishop McManaman Memorial Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery with Msgr. John W. Swoger presiding. Interment will follow. Parker, 54, of Oil City, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 17, 1953, in Titusville, he was the son of Orie and Pauline Kirk Parker. Mr. Parker had worked for American General Insurance for 24 years until 2004. He enjoyed hunting and golfing. He loved spending Sundays with his family watching football, being an Oakland Raiders fan, and eating a large home-cooked meal. Mr. Parker always was dressed as a professional, wearing a suit and tie, had a great sense of humor and enjoyed bragging about his children and grandchildren. Prior to his illness he volunteered for the Salvation Army in Oil City and played softball in the Meadville Sertoma Softball League. Surviving are three children: Samantha Rhoades and her husband, Michael, of Saegertown, Anthony Parker of Meadville and Brittany Parker and her fianc,, Mill Adkins of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren, Trey Morrison, Dylan Parker, Kallan Parker, Dane Rhoades and Raef Rhoades. He also is survived by two brothers, Stanley Parker and his wife, Emily, and Larry Parker, all of Meadville; and his former wife of 32 years, Denise Parker of Harmonsburg. Hazel Ashbaugh Rhoads, 96, of Liberty Towers, Clarion, formerly of Knox, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, in the Golden Living Center, Clarion. Born Sept. 9, 1911, she was the daughter of Frederick W. and Florence E. McElhatten Kribbs. Mrs. Rhoads was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Knox. She formerly belonged to TOPS. She was a homemaker and loved to travel, sew, do yard work, eat out and spend time with her family. Mrs. Rhoads first was married Aug. 15, 1931, to Nelson O. Ashbaugh, who preceded her in death in 1985. She then was married June 11, 1988, to Donald L. Rhoads Sr., who preceded her in death in 2001. Surviving are two sons, Frederick N. Ashbaugh and his wife, Josephine, of Spring Valley, Ill., and Darrell L. Ashbaugh and his wife, Mildred, of Lamartine; five daughters, Joyce Paine of Nice, Calif., Mary Beers of Clarion, Eleanor (Diane) Kapp and her husband, Paul, of Lamartine, Janice Johnston and her husband, James, of Clarion and Jolene Harman and her husband, Harold, of Hunker; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Donald Rhoads, James Rhoads, Alan Rhoads and Dorothy Rodgers; and numerous stepgrandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Rhoads was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Ashbaugh; a granddaughter, Patricia Dawn Ashbaugh; two sons-in-law, Charles Paine and Theodore Beers; and twin brothers, James and William Kribbs. Robert Terrance "Bud" Smith Sr., 80, of 124 Blackhill Road, Franklin, died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, in his residence. Born Aug. 30, 1927, in Oil City, he was the son of Leo T. and Helen L. Hazlett Smith. He was reared by his maternal grandparents, Maude Hazlett Lusher and Harry J. Lusher after the death of his mother in 1929. He attended the Franklin Area Schools and lived in Franklin most of his life. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army Occupation Forces during World War II with the 13th Major Port Battalion in Belgium and the 17th Major Port Battalion in Germany. He also served with the 986th Engineer Petro Distribution Co. during the Korean War. He retired from the Franklin Post Office where he was a rural carrier for 33 years. He was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers. Mr. Smith was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Franklin and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and automobile racing. Mr. Smith was married in Antwerp, Belgium, April 22, 1947, to Yvonne R. Govaerts, who preceded him in death May 17, 2007. Surviving are three grandchildren, Scott W. Smith and Terrance R. Smith, both of Oil City, and Sarah Yvonne Smith of Nebraska; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Thompson, 83, a resident of Orchard Manor, Grove City, formerly of Clintonville, died after a brief illness Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, in the nursing home with her loving daughter, Jeannie, at her side. Born July 27, 1924, in Lawsonham, Clarion County, she was the daughter of Elmer and Naomi Anthony Yoder. She attended the public schools in Rimersburg. Mrs. Thompson worked as a cook for many years at Stop Eight in Barkeyville. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Clintonville. Mrs. Thompson enjoyed gardening and her grandchildren and loved playing bingo. She was married Nov. 20, 1940, to Fred Thompson, who died Feb. 28, 2007. Surviving are four children: Glenn M. Thompson and his wife, Connie, of Harrisville, Bonnie L. Poole and her husband, Bill, of Polk, Jeannie L. Beach and her husband, Thomas, of Polk and Amy B. Martin and her husband, Roy, of Grove City; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family of 12 brothers and sisters. William John "Bill" Worrell, 86, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at his residence in Mercer after a brief illness. Born June 11, 1921, in Hazlehurst, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Worrell. Mr. Worrell served his country during World War II as an Army Ranger of the 315th Infantry Regiment of the 79th Army Division from 1943 to 1945. He was in the European theatre and fought in the invasion of Normandy, (D-Day). He was awarded two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts and the Cross of Lorraine which was awarded by France to the 79th Army Division for fighting through France during World War II. Mr. Worrell taught seventh- and eighth-grade earth science at Redbank Valley High School in New Bethlehem for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985. While teaching at Redbank he coached football for many years, serving as head junior high football coach and varsity assistant. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Clarion and the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion. Mr. Worrell's hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening and watching his grandson's soccer games. In April 1949 he married the late Ben (Trunk) Worrell. Surviving are two sisters, Ruth Johnson and her husband, Bill, of Emporium and Suzanne Survey of Clarion; a son, Gregory John Worrell, a retired senior master sergeant in the United States Air Force, and his wife, Robin, of Stuggurt Germany; a daughter, Thea Worrell Nixon and husband, Mark, of Mercer; and four grandchildren, Melissa Worrell Tallahassee, Fla., Emily Worrell of Stuttgurt, Germany, Nathaniel Worrell of Tampa, Fla., and Steven Nixon of Mercer. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Immaculate Conception Church.
