    3. The Derrick, Monday, December 13, 2004: Michael V. Armburger, 9 E. Bissell Ave., Oil City Bette L. Covert, Hermitage, formerly of Marienville Diane Maxine Faulkner, New Bethlehem Frances M. Kaness, 411 Seventh St., Franklin Catherine M. Reed, formerly of Pine Street, Clarion William E. Sheffer, 646 Hepler Road, Cranberry George T. Veronesi, Seminole Michael V. Armburger Michael V. Armburger, 52, of 9 E. Bissell Ave., Oil City, died unexpectedly at 1:26 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born March 12, 1952, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Raymond and Helen Reynolds Armburger. He was a 1970 graduate of Oil City High School. Mr. Armburger was employed for many years at Polk Center, retiring as a RSA. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, computers and visiting with his friends. Mr. Armburger was of the Protestant faith. Surviving is a stepson, Jay Armburger of Eighty Four. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Armburger. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Reinsel Funeral Home. The Rev. David Rider, pastor of the Plumer Presbyterian Church, will preside. Mr. Armburger will be interred in Grove Hill Cemetery with his brother. Bette L. Covert Bette L. Covert, 80, of Hermitage, formerly of Marienville, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, in Sharon Regional Medical Center, Sharon. Born Aug. 29, 1924, in Kane, she was the daughter of John D. and Mary Gadley Covert. Miss Covert had worked at Knox Glass and retired when the plant closed. In her early years, she was active with the Girl Scouts. Surviving are several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, Miss Covert was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and J. Robert Covert; and two sisters, June Shipe and Dorothy Mullennix. Friends and family may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Borland Funeral Home Inc., Leeper. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Daniel Richter, pastor of the Marienville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in North Forest Cemetery, Marienville. The family suggests memorials be made to the Marienville Library. Diane Maxine Faulkner Diane Maxine Faulkner, 59, of Keck Avenue, New Bethlehem, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, in Clarion Hospital following a brief illness. Born July 30, 1945, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Margaretta Hilliard Wagner. She attended the Union schools in Rimersburg. Mrs. Faulkner was a member of Grace Baptist Church in New Bethlehem. She enjoyed attending bingo and working with crafts., Surviving are three brothers, David Davis and wife, Edith, of Mayport, Mike Teske of Detroit, Mich., and Dave Wagner and wife, Lisa, of Fairmount City; three sisters, Marge Bowser and husband, Cutty, of Fairmount City, Patty Fulkerson of Reeds, Ky., and Dorthea Myers of Greenville; and 20 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father May 8, 1997; her mother Jan. 2, 1989; one brother, Thomas Wagner, March 16, 1960, and a brother-in-law, James Fulkerson, in 2000. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home, Rimersburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert P. Ryver, pastor of Grace Baptist Church, New Bethlehem, officiating. Interment will follow in the Sligo Cemetery. Frances M. Kaness Frances M. Kaness, 59, of 411 Seventh St., Franklin, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born June 20, 1945, in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Russell E. and Mary A. Armstrong Kaness. She was a homemaker and a member of the Rouseville United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Oil City Pulaski Club and the Oil City Eagles. She enjoyed bingo, local auto races, knitting, animals and life itself. Surviving are two daughters, Candy E. Baker and husband, Joseph, of Franklin and Cindy S. Meyers of Oil City; and two grandchildren. She also is survived by one brother, Russell Kaness and wife, Judy, of Gillette, Wyo.; two sisters, Mary Craig and husband, Daryl, of Ohio and Connie Lepley and husband, Jack, of Oil City; and six nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Kaness; and one nephew, Michael Eakin. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Morrison Funeral Home, Oil City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Jack A. Kyle, semi-retired Polk Center chaplain, officiating. Interment will be in Tylersburg Cemetery. Catherine M. Reed Catherine M. Reed, 100, formerly of Pine Street, Clarion, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, in Clarview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Sligo. The Goble Funeral Home of Clarion is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Tuesday in The Derrick. William E. Sheffer William E. Sheffer, 69, of 646 Hepler Road, Cranberry, died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, in the Transitional Care Unit of UPMC Northwest, Oil City. Born Nov. 16, 1935, in Nickleville, he was the son of the late Marshall and Ruth Weaver Sheffer. He was a 1953 graduate of Emlenton High School. Mr. Sheffer worked at Van Gas Co., Arnold Graphic of Franklin and retired in 1997 from Seneca Hardwood Co. He attended the Nickleville Presbyterian Church. Mr. Sheffer enjoyed his grandchildren, their sports and their school programs. He enjoyed baseball, farming and hunting as well as the many fishing trips to Canada with his family and his friend, Dave Bell. He was married Feb. 26, 1954, to the former Joan Stephens, who survives. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past February. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons and their families: James Sheffer and wife, Bonnie, of Shippenville and their three children, Michael, William and Jessica, all of Shippenville; Wayne Sheffer and wife, Linda, of Oil City and their three daughters, Rebecca Sheffer of Pittsburgh, Janet Sheffer of Wattsburg and Laura Sheffer at home in Oil City; and Larry Sheffer and wife, Sue, of Cranberry and their sons, Zack at home in Cranberry, David Reddinger and wife, Kristy, of Cranberry and children, Katie, Joshua and Chelsea Reddinger, all of Cranberry; one daughter, Barbara Stack and husband, Dan, of Oil City and their children, Shannon, of Oil City and Ryan at home in Oil City. He also is survived by two brothers, Donald Sheffer and wife, Dottie, of Sandusky, Ohio, and Eugene Sheffer and wife, Marge, of Rocky Grove; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sheffer was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Nicki Reddinger; and a sister, Mary Ellen Rhoades and husband, George. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Morrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. George T. Veronesi George T. Veronesi, 84, a lifelong resident of Seminole, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, in McKinley Health Center, Brookville. Born Nov. 10, 1920, in Seminole, he was the son of Peter and Julie Siani Veronesi. Mr. Veronesi was a 1938 graduate of New Bethlehem High School. He served in the U.S. Army where he held the rank of tech. 5. Mr. Veronesi was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in New Bethlehem and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in New Bethlehem. Mr. Veronesi was a former Alcola Park Board member, served as a former Redbank Valley School Board member for 15 years and was a former member of the New Bethlehem VFW. He enjoyed cooking and loved to read and spend time with his family a nd friends. Mr. Veronesi was married July 7, 1950, to Mildred Lucille Logsdon, who died Sept. 7, 1979. Surviving are two sons, George T .Veronesi Jr. and wife, Susan, of Seminole and Larry Thornhill and wife, Sandra, of Brandon, Fla.; a daughter, Debra Boozer and husband, Jeff, of New Bethlehem RD 1; nine grandchildren, Larry and Butch Thornhill, Kree Morales, Beth Reicard, Tony, Dan and Lauren Veronesi, and Heidi and Scott Boozer; and four great-grandchildren, Alexis and Crystal Morales, Karissa Reicard and Tierney Thornhill. He also is survived by one sister, Emma Spanedda of New Jersey; four brothers, Edward "Eddie" Veronesi, Milton Veronesi and Aldo Veronesi, all of Seminole, and Frank Veronesi of Kittanning; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Veronesi was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Guido and Gino Veronesi; and two sisters, Edith Radaker and Jennie Veronesi. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Bish Memorial Funeral Home, 206 South St., New Bethlehem. A wake service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Charles Catholic Church, New Bethlehem, with the Rev. William Laska, pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in New Bethlehem.
