    3. The Derrick, Friday, December 3, 2004: Nola L. Barnes, 156 McQuaid St., Franklin Parker P. Devey, Clarion, formerly of Irwin Barbara Kay Gaston, New Bethlehem Geraldine D. Hach, Shippenville Richard Ward Kendrick, Franklin Clyde Edward O'Neil, Cranberry J. William "Bill" Phero, Clarion Nola L. Barnes Nola L. Barnes, 65, of 156 McQuaid St., Franklin, died at 4:55 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh. Born Sept. 15, 1939, in Franklin, she was the daughter of James C. and Lydia I. Flaugh Morrison. Mrs. Barnes was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of the Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was a homemaker who enjoyed collecting bells, traveling, her family and grandchildren. Mrs. Barnes was married July 20, 1957, to James R. Barnes, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, James E. Barnes and his fiancee, Trudy L. Carter, of Seneca, Gary L. Barnes of Franklin and Herbert W. Barnes and his fiancee, Kelly Hughes, of Franklin; and two grandchildren, Richard W. Barnes and Laura J. Barnes, both of Utica. She also is survived by one brother, Richard B. Morrison of Franklin; three sisters, Daisey Hazlett and Nina Jolene Heffern, both of Franklin, and Barbara Donahue of Erie; and a sister-in-law, Judy Kresenske and husband, James L., of Cooperstown. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by five brothers, Orren, Donald, Kenneth, Marvin and Kirk Morrison; and five sisters, Sarah Mulholland, Margaret Seely, Gladys Morrison, Dora Vogan and Mildred Kuhn. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Bell of the Messiah Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in Morrison Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 10 W. Front St., Oil City, 16301. Parker P. Devey Parker P. Devey, 73, of White Oak Drive, Clarion, Highland Township, formerly of Irwin, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at his residence. Born April 8, 1931, in Homeville, he was the son of Phillip and Beatrice Bethune Devey. He served in the Navy. Mr. Devey was a bus driver for P.A.T. in Pittsburgh for 20 years and managed the Old Mill Park campgrounds in Limestone. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Clarion. Mr. Devey was married to Audrey Jeffreys, who survives. Also surviving are two sons and their wives, Jeffrey and Carol Devey of Limestone and Brad and Debra Devey of Hurricane, W.Va.; a daughter, Cindy Lou Myers of Clarion; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Goble Funeral Home of Clarion. Friends also may call from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church in Clarion. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday in the church with Pastor Kirk Orr officiating. Barbara Kay Gaston Barbara Kay Gaston, 61, of New Bethlehem, died at 11:09 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, in Clarion Hospital following an extended illness. Born July 18, 1943, in Leatherwood, Porter Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of Bernice Smail Gruver of Fairmount City and the late William Clyde Gruver. Mrs. Gaston enjoyed helping friends and family and doing crafts. She was married Nov. 22, 1975, to LeRoy Gaston, who survives along with her mother. Also surviving are a son, Tony Gaston of New Bethlehem; two daughters, Tina Myers and Tori Gaston, both of New Bethlehem; three grandchildren, Heather Miller, Ronnie Myers and Jeremy Myers; and one great-grandson, Ethan LeGrand. She also is survived by five sisters, Mary Doverspike of Fairmount City, Janice Himes of New Castle, Vickie Troup of Hawthorn, Kathy Crissman of Hawthorn and Robin Smith of Fairmount City; and three brothers, William Gruver of New Bethlehem and Dennis Gruver and James Gruver, both of Fairmount City. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Rupert Funeral Home in New Bethlehem with the Rev. John Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in New Bethlehem. Geraldine D. Hach Geraldine D. Hach, 99, of Shippenville, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, in Beverly Health Care, Shippenville. Born Sept. 22, 1905, in Shippenville, she was the daughter of Lewis W. and Frances Mae Baker Dovenspike. Mrs. Hach taught first grade in the Shippenville School. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Hach was married to John W. Hach, who died in November 1944. Surviving is her son, John W. Hach Jr. of Shippenville. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hach was preceded in death by two brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Goble Funeral Home of Clarion with the Rev. Gary Hilfiger officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Shippenville. Richard Ward Kendrick Richard Ward Kendrick, 86, of Franklin, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, in Sugar Creek Station, Franklin. Born Oct. 30, 1918, in Oil City, he was the son of Carl S. and Lelia Wenner Kendrick. He graduated in 1937 from Franklin High School. Mr. Kendrick served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 as a gunners mate 3rd class. He was a supervisor at CPT in Franklin, retiring in 1980 after 43 years of service. Mr. Kendrick enjoyed working around the house and spending time with his family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Martha T. Kendrick; a daughter, Patricia Ann Bowman and husband, Ronald, of Lorain, Ohio; a son, Richard W. Kendrick Jr. of Franklin; two grandsons, Brian Bowman and wife, Barbara, of Amherst, Ohio, and Kevin Bowman and friend, Kim Hastings, of Elyria, Ohio; and a great-granddaughter, Jessica Bowman of Amherst, Ohio. He also is survived by a sister, Virginia M. Kendrick of Sugar Valley Lodge; and a cousin. Mr. Kendrick was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorthea V. Kendrick. The Osenider Funeral Home, Oil City, is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation. Private services will be held at a later date. Entombment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, Cranberry Township. The family requests memorial donations be sent to Sugar Creek Station or the VNA. Clyde Edward O'Neil Clyde Edward O'Neil, 80, of Cranberry, died at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, in Clarion Hospital following a short illness. Born April 24, 1924, at home in Kossuth, he was the son of Frank and Leah Culp O'Neil. He attended Ashland School in Kossuth. Mr. O'Neil owned and operated a dairy farm for 36 years. He also was employed as a bus contractor for Keystone School District for 43 years until his retirement in 2001. He was a charter member of the Church of the Nazarene in Knox and was honored in 1997 with the Distinguished Service Award at his church. Mr. O'Neil enjoyed doing for others and spending time with his family. He was married April 8, 1950, to the former Evelyn M. Elder, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Butch (Joanne) Kapp of Pine City and Mrs. Neal (Linda) Lewis of Kossuth; four sons and their wives, Donald and Marsha O'Neil of Knox, James and Linda O'Neil and Gale and Vicki O'Neil, all of Kossuth, and Edward "Pepper" and Jan O'Neil of Virginia; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Larry (Yvonne) Young of Cranberry and Mrs. Don (Delores) Hale of Rome, N.Y.; and a brother and his wife, Ronald and Violet O'Neil of Fertigs. In addition to his parents, Mr. O'Neil was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin O'Neil in 1986 and Gene O'Neil in 1999. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the William N. Rupert Mortuary in Knox. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with the former pastor, the Rev. Gary Smith, officiating. Interment will be in Starr Cemetery at Ninevah. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Nazarene, Knox, 16232. J. William "Bill" Phero J. William "Bill" Phero, 86, of Clarion, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at her home. Born Oct. 14, 1918, in Clarion, he was the son of William Walter "W" and Edna Crooks Phero, and had resided in Clarion his entire life. Mr. Phero attended Clarion College and was a graduate of Duffs Iron City College in Pittsburgh. He was called to active duty in the U.S. military during World War II and served in the adjutant general's section of the 83rd Infantry Division in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of all five battles in the European Theater of Operations. Mr. Phero owned and operated Phero's Gateway Food Market, a family business on Eighth Avenue, Clarion, for 59 years. He was a lifelong member of Clarion First United Methodist Church and the Clarion American Legion and was a 50-year member of the Clarion Masonic Lodge. Mr. Phero was a board member of the Clarion Housing Authority and was a member of the Clarion Borough Citizens Advisory Board. In 1998, he was selected as Clarion's "Citizen of the Year." He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame in 1992 for voting in every election for the past 50 years, including his absentee ballots while away during World War II. He continued to vote in every election until this past November. Mr. Phero was married July 6, 1946, to the former Lois Voelkel, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Carole Mueller of Indianapolis, Ind.; a son, Jim Phero of Cincinnati, Ohio; and six grandchildren, Collin and Christopher Mueller and Kristin, Graham, James and Heidi Phero. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Goble Funeral Home of Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church in Clarion. Interment will follow in Clarion Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Clarion First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
