Dumb mistakes!! Hope the last message was not too discouraging. I found on the Farmington Twp. map of about 1880 three Smiths that may be those you mentioned. P. and J.H. had adjoining 200 and 85 acre properties which were closer to the Lewis School than any other shown. J. Smith had 56 acres a short distance southwest of Scotch Hill with a school in the village. My grandfather got a temporary teaching certificate in 1898 at age 18. He taught at the Lewis School not far from his home. Your Smith family children may be in the photo, but I only have identification for the Smiths in my family. The photo shows the mothers standing behind their kids which may allow identification by you. Some ladies are dressed in their finery for cool, perhaps wet, weather. If you return to your message board and read this, know that copies of the school group and the map can be sent to you for your examination. Good luck in your searches. WS
