    3. The Derrick, Saturday, January 15, 2005: Mildred J. Bell, formerly of 15th Street, Franklin Margaret Elizabeth "Betty" Brown, Sandy Hollow, Friar Point Road, Rimersburg James W. Connor, Lake County, Ohio, formerly of Oil City Clyde Alvin "Cubby" Cubbison, 1573 Route 227, Plumer Rose Marie Long, 722 12th St., Franklin Margaret L. "Peg" Wygant, Sandy Lake Mildred J. Bell Mildred J. Bell, 103, formerly of 15th Street, Franklin, died at 7:25 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at The Caring Place. A daughter of Charles J. and Effie Miller Fury, she was born June 10, 1901, in Franklin. She attended Rocky Grove schools. Mrs. Bell was employed as a receptionist for the Buchanan Schmidt Funeral Home and later for the Berg Funeral Home in Franklin before retiring in 1975. She had previously worked at the Park Pastry Shop and at Polk State School and Hospital. She was a member of Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church and the Philathea Sunday School class. Mrs. Bell was a volunteer at the Franklin Hospital. She married Albert B. Walters on Oct. 29, 1918, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1939. She then married Boyd M. Carter on April 8, 1944, and he preceded her in death on April 17, 1970. She then married George E. Bell on Jan. 9, 1975, and he preceded her in death on May 6, 1980. Surviving are a daughter, Virginia Beatty of Franklin; a son, Albert B. Walters of Polk; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Clarence L. Walters; and a grandson. Final arrangements will be handled by Huff Chapel in Franklin. There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery. Margaret Elizabeth "Betty" Brown Margaret Elizabeth "Betty" Brown, 81, of Sandy Hollow, Friar Point Road, Rimersburg, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Butler Hospital following a brief illness. Born March 31, 1923, in East Brady, she was a daughter of the late Sebastian B. Jordan and Barbara Lehner Jordan. She was a 1941 graduate of East Brady High School. Mrs. Brown was employed at Watson Dry Cleaners in Clarion and at Eccles Nursery in Rimersburg. She was a member of St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church in East Brady. She enjoyed playing cards and reading. Mrs. Brown was married July 26, 1941, in East Brady to LaVone Brown, who preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1988. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara J. McCullough and her husband, Robert L., of Rimersburg, and Sandra L. Simpson and her husband, Eugene C., of Rimersburg; three sons, Robert LaVone Brown and his wife, Pamala M., of Rimersburg, Dennis J. Brown of East Brady and Eugene J. Brown and his wife, Sheryl K., of Butler; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Greenwalt of East Brady; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Jordan and Gene Jordan; five sisters, Nelle DeCorte, Amy Crowley, Amy Monaca, Sarah Crispen and Dorothy Brothers; and two great-grandchildren, Edward Robert Barger and Courtney Dawn Barger. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home in Rimersburg. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Eusebius Church with the Rev. Anthony Ditto officiating. Interment will follow in St. Eusebius Cemetery, East Brady. James W. Connor James W. Connor, 74, of Lake County, Ohio, formerly of Oil City, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, in Cleveland. Among his survivors are two sisters, Peggy Kagle and Nancy Blauser, both of Oil City; and two brothers, Joe and John Connor, both of Oil City. Clyde Alvin 'Cubby' Cubbison Clyde Alvin "Cubby" Cubbison, 80, of 1573 Route 227, Plumer, died at 12:35 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at his residence. The Gordon B. Rose Marie Long Rose Marie Long, 58, of 722 12th St., Franklin, died at 1:52 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home. The Morrison Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published Monday in The Derrick. Margaret L. "Peg" Wygant Margaret L. "Peg" Wygant, 81, of 1063 Hendersonville Road, Sandy Lake, Sandy Lake Township, died at 1:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, in Orchard Manor Nursing Home following a short illness. Born Feb. 14, 1923, in Conifer, Jefferson County, she was the daughter of Chester W. and Goldie E. Schreckengost Plyler. She was a 1941 graduate of Oil City High School. Mrs. Wygant was a homemaker, and along with her husband she owned and operated a beef farm in Sandy Lake Township for more than 30 years. The Wygants also owned and operated the Berry Patch craft shop from 1975 to 1980. She was a member of Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir, and she was a member of the Monday Music Club for more than 20 years. Mrs. Wygant was an herbalist and enjoyed gardening and growing herbs. In 1984 she was a founding member of the Herbthymers herb club and was well known in the area for her knowledge of herbs. On March 2, 1944, she married Thomas E. Wygant, who preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1980. She is survived by four sons, Thomas R. Wygant and his wife, Barbara, of Stoneboro, Ronald I. Wygant and his wife, Marta, of Sandy Lake, Joseph W. Wygant and his wife, Madine, of Sandy Lake, and Phillip S. Wygant and his wife, Debbie, of Sandy Lake; two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Green of Irwin and Mrs. Allen (Dorothy) Fornof of Oil City; a brother, Howard C. Plyler and his wife, Wilma, of South Dayton, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Scott A. Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Galen Joe MacDonald, pastor of Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1965 Shenango Valley Freeway, Suite 1, Hermitage, 16148; or The Lupus Foundation of America, 2000 L.
