According to her obituary she left 5 small boys. I went into the census begining with the 1900's in Highland Twp., Clarion Co., I found Nanie at the age of 17 living with her new husband and mother in law: Matilda McClaine 52 owns home farmer born in PA John son 11/1864 born in PA farm laborer single Rufus son 2/1867 born in PA farm laborer single McLain, William son 4/1869 31 rents (same household) day laborer Nanie Belle wife 2/1883 17 yrs old born in PA married 0. In 1910 the can be found in St. Petersburg twp., With them are three sons, Charles 8, David 6, and Willaim. 1920 William is 50 a widow the sons are listed as Chester C son 18, David Scott 15, William Russell 12, Donald L 9, Linday R son 4 yrs 11 months. William is living next to his brothers, John and Rufus. In the 1930 census I find William is living with his son Roy(Ray) L McClain(McLaine). Again he is living next door to his brothers, John B and Rufus. Nannie Belle nee Beer McClain's Obituary Clarion Democrat McClain, Nannie Beer - January 13, 1916- Mrs. Nannie Beer McClain, wife of William McClain, died Friday, Jan. 7, 1916, in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, whither she had gone on January 3rd for the purpose of treatment or an operation. She had been ailing for a couple years and there seemed to be no way to give her permanent relief unless it could be done by an operation, but she was not able to undergo that and the peaceful sleep of death came. Miss Nannie Belle Beer, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Beer and was born at the mouth of Piney Feb 12, 1883. She was married to William MClain, who now survives her to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother. She leaves five small children, all boys, Chester, Scott, Russell, Donald and Gray(sp) McClain the oldest being 12 yrs of age. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Harry Bish, Shippenville; Mrs. Frank Bish and Mrs. Wm. Flowers, Mannington, W. Va.; John Beer and Lindsey Beer, of Clario! n. The deceased had been a member of the Reformed Church in St. Petersburg where she lived about five years. The funeral was held Last Monday morning the body being taken from the residence of her father to Shiloh Presbyterian Church at Miola, where services were conducted by the Rev. Joseph Arnold of Clarion, and the interment was made in Shiloh cemetery. Mr. McClain and family and Mr. and Mrs. Beer and family desire to return their sincere thanks to many friends and neightbors who so kindly ministered to them in this time of trial and sorrow.
