Gilhousen, getting it right Esther Jane Hummell Gulnac Esther Jane Hummell Gulnac, 87, of Beverly Healthcare-Shippenville, died there Monday, Jan. 17, 2005. Born Feb. 18, 1917, in Summerville, she was the daughter of Charles A. and Lorena Lowers Hummell. Mrs. Gulnac was a private nurse and homemaker and was of the Methodist faith. She was married July 2, 1938, to Gerald C. Gulnac, who died Oct. 30, 1986. Surviving are three sons, Gerald Blayne Gulnac and wife, Shirley, of Strattanville, Charles P. Gulnac of Fisher and Dennis W. Gulnac of Strattanville; three daughters, Carol Goheen and husband, Bill, of Seneca, Mary Huffman and husband, Jim, of Shippenville and L. Darlyne Schreckengost and husband, Ron, of Rimersburg; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by one brother, Charles Hummell of Indiana; four sisters, Helen Slaughenhapt of Brookville, formerly of Clarion, Deloris Caldwell of Clarion, Emma Hollenbaugh of Beverly Healthcare-Shippenville and Grace Bashline of Clarion. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Gulnac was preceded in death by three sisters, Jessie Lindenaeau, LaGene Wise and Marian Masters. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Goble Funeral Home of Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Harold O. Jacobson officiating. Interment will follow in the Kahletown Cemetery. Robert D. Matson Robert D. Matson, 80, of 132 Main St., Brookville, a well-known Brookville businessman, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, in Hilton Head Island, S.C. Born Sept. 21, 1924, in Brookville, he was the son of George and Martha King Matson. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. Mr. Matson was the founder, owner and operator of Matson Lumber and Matson Insurance in Brookville. He was a pioneer in exportation of North American Hardwood Lumber and was a charter member of The American Hardwood Export Council. Mr. Matson was a board member of the Community First Bank of Reynoldsville and a board member of Deposit Bank. He was a member of the endowment committee of the Brookville YMCA and was past chairman of the United Way Fund. Mr. Matson was a member of the Brookville Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and trustee. He was married in Pittsburgh Aug. 3, 1946, to Joan Matson, his wife of 58 years, who survives. Also surviving are a son and his wife, James R. and Pamela M. Matson of Brookville; two daughters and their husbands, Becky J. Matson Pysh and Paul J. Pysh and Barbara A. and Richard G. Conti, all of Brookville; 10 grandchildren, Robert A. Matson, Jack D. Matson, Molly A. Zimmerman, Daniel R. Conti, Elizabeth A. Conti and John P. Pysh, all of Brookville, Paul D. Sorek and Jennifer M. Leonard, both of Pittsburgh, Peter J. Matson of North Raleigh, N.C., and Neal M. Sorek of Denver, Colo.; and four great-grandchildren, Matson D. Leonard, Claire O. Sorek, Ella M. Zimmerman and James R. Matson. He also is survived by a brother, Charles D. Matson of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; and a sister and husband, Martha and Robert Strempel of Hilton Head Island, S.C.. In addition to his parents, Mr. Matson was preceded in death by a son, John D. Matson. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the McKinney Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Presbyterian Church, Brookville, with the Rev. Thomas J. Parlette officiating. Interment will be in Brookville Cemetery, Brookville. Memorials may be made to the Brookville YMCA, 125 Main St., Brookville, 15825, or to the Presbyterian Church, White/Main Street, Brookville, 15825. Cecil W. McKean Cecil W. McKean, 45, of 3 Pennsylvania Ave., Franklin, died at 12:36 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Aug. 4, 1959, in Oil City, he was the son of Myles and Joyce Stahlman McKean. He was a graduate of Oil City High School. Mr. McKean enjoyed watching the Steelers and NASCAR. Surviving are his mother, Joyce Wagner of Cochranton; a brother and his wife, Michael and Faye McKean of Reno; and two nephews, Jason McKean and Travis McKean of Reno. Mr. McKean was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Bonnie King, pastor of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church, officiating. Getting it right - Kathryn L. Gilhousen Kathryn L. Gilhousen, 95, formerly of West Sixth Street and Lee's Lane, Oil City, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, in Sugar Creek Station, Franklin, after a brief illness. She was married Oct. 19, 1929, to Ray S. Gilhousen, who died Sept. 2, 1981. Among those preceding her in death was a sister, Iva Bish.
