Dreher, Kemper Road, Butler William Frederick "Bill" English, 123 Oak St., Henry's Bend Harriet Skaggs Hearst, Clarion Elizabeth Pearl Heeter, Wood Street, Clarion Preston Hepler, Marienville Joanna Humes Marsh, Venus Helen Mogle, New Bethlehem Clarence W. "Bim" Seeley, 121 River St., Cochranton Kenneth L. Watson, Strattanville Robert R. Dreher, 87, of Kemper Road, Butler, died at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2007, in his residence. Born April 29, 1920, in Butler, he was the son of Ralph E. and Amelia Fend Dreher. He served in the Navy during World War II. Mr. Dreher was a researcher for Allegheny Ludlum until his retirement in the early 1980s. He was a longtime member of the former St. Paul United Church of Christ in Butler where he served as a deacon. Most recently he had attended Grace Calvary Lutheran Church in Butler. Mr. Dreher enjoyed camping, bowling, playing cards, traveling, gardening, baking and most importantly his family and friends. He was married Sept. 7, 1941, to Virginia R. Adler, who preceded him in death Sept. 24, 1997. Surviving are one son and his wife, John and Sherry Dreher of Emlenton; three grandsons, Benjamin Dreher and wife, Marni, and Jonathan Dreher, all of Columbus, Ohio, and Matthew Dreher of Emlenton; one great-granddaughter, Laken Dreher of Columbus, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Dreher was preceded in death by his daughter, Judith, in April 2000; his brother, Walter "Jake" Dreher, in 1972; and his sister, Opal Light in 1995. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc., 124 E. North St., Butler. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. James A. Higgins of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora, officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park. William Frederick "Bill" English, 91, of 123 Oak St., Henry's Bend, Oil City, died at 2:15 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2007, in his home after an extended illness. Mr. English was provided exceptional care at his home by his daughter, Susan, with assistance from his other daughters, Diane and Nancy. Born May 5, 1916, in Oil City, he was the son of Leo J. and Alice Seyboldt English. Mr. English was a 1934 graduate of Oil City High School. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a Navy seaman first class in the Fleet Post Office at Sampson, N.Y. Mr. English received certification in advanced millwork drawing and blueprint reading from Penn State night school while working at the National Transit. He also was briefly employed by the Keystone Public Service Co., now known as Penelec. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1974 after 35 years of service. His retirement years enabled him to manage the English Pool Center and to travel to Florida in the winter months. Mr. English was a well-known musician. He was vice president of the American Federation of Music for 15 years and was a charter member of the National Association of Rudimental Drummers. He taught drum lessons and played with the Florida Symphony, as well as professional celebrity drummers from 1934 to 1980. He was active in Oil City music circles, playing with the American Legion, Mostly Brass and the Carl Brozeski Band. Mr. English was a member of St. Stephen Church, the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Eagles, Elks, Moose, Fryburg Lucky Twirlers Dance Club, Isaac Walton, National Association of Letter Carriers and the Fryburg Sportsman Club. He was married to the former Arlene C. Eisenman, who preceded him in death Feb. 25, 2003. They were married for 63 years. Surviving are six children, William and CC English of Derwood, Md., Diane Turner and Susan English, both of Henry's Bend, Nancy and Dwight Guth of Franklin, Stephen and Patti English of Bel Air, Md., and Tommy English of Franklin He was proud of his large family of 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He spent time fishing, hunting and enjoying many other outdoor activities with them during his fulfilling and blessed life. He also is survived by two brothers, Robert and Richard English, both of Oil City. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. English was preceded in death by a son, the Rev. Robert English; and two brothers, Joe and Leo English. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Reinsel Funeral Home, Oil City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Stephen Church with Msgr. William C. Karg presiding. Internment, with full military honors provided by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard, will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Oil City, where he will be interred along side his wife whom he referred to as "His Beauty Queen, Arlene." Condolences may be sent at www.reinselfuneralhome.com Harriet Skaggs Hearst, 96, of Clarion, an educator, businesswoman and Woman of the Year, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, in the Clarion Hospital. Born Dec. 4, 1910, in Fayette County, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Dr. Henry C. and Eva Watterson Skaggs. She was a graduate of West Virginia University and Peabody College, now a part of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. Mrs. Hearst was a teacher at Montgomery High School in West Virginia before coming to Clarion in 1947 to teach in the English department at Clarion State Teachers College, now Clarion University. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Association of University Women, Clarion County Garden Club, Clarion Woman's Club and the Classical Clarion Historical Society. Mrs. Hearst was a member of the Board of Trustees for Clarion University from 1960 to 1970. She was named Citizen of the Year in 2000 by the American Association of University Women and was honored for her chairing committee. She was past president of the Quadeo Community Concert Association, a part of Columbia Artists Community. Mrs. Hearst was married in Mexico City in 1953 to William C. Hearst, who preceded her in death May 26, 1984. She and her husband were the former owners of the Clarion Democrat and Clarion Republic, a twice-a-week newspaper publication now known as the Clarion News. After an early retirement, she and her husband built the AM Radio Station known as WWCH, which is owned and operated by their son, William S. Hearst. Mrs. Hearst enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and music. Surviving are her son, William Skaggs Hearst of Clarion; one stepdaughter, Marna Hearst Terry of Boston, Mass; and four grandchildren, William Curtis, Kristan, George Cody and Thomas Cameron Hearst. She also is survived by one brother, Robert Calvin Skaggs of Charleston, W.Va.; and 12 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her four brothers, Henry C. Skaggs, Dr. Joseph Thomas Skaggs, Dr. Raymond A. Updike and Fred S. Updike; and one sister, Elizabeth Skaggs Jenkins. A memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the First United Methodist Church in Clarion with the Rev. Deryl Larsen officiating. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. in the church. Joanna Humes Marsh Joanna Humes Marsh, 82, of Venus, died Saturday July 21, 2007, in the Golden Living Center, Oil City. Born Sept. 5, 1924, in McKees Rocks, she was the daughter of William and Ada Carroll Humes. Mrs. Marsh was a resident of the McKees Rocks area for 38 before moving to Venus late in her life. She had been employed at several department stores in the Pittsburgh area. Mrs. Marsh was a member of the Fertigs United Methodist Church in Fertigs. She enjoyed taking care of her pet cats. Mrs. Marsh was married Dec. 28, 1974, in the Allison Park Church, Mount Royal Blvd., to Donald Marsh, who preceded her in death Oct. 18, 2002. Surviving are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Faller Funeral Home Inc. in Fryburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. The family suggests memorials be made to the Fertigs United Methodist Church. Helen Mogle Helen Mogle of New Bethlehem, Porter Township, died Sunday, July 22, 2007, in Christ the King Manor, DuBois. "Bim" Seeley, 77, of 121 River St., Cochranton, died Friday, July 20, 2007, in his residence. Born March 28, 1930, in Rocky Grove, he was the son of the late Walter and Cora Miller Seeley. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Seeley worked for 21 years at Morco in Cochranton and then went to work for 22 years at PPG, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Deckards United Methodist Church, the Cochranton Masonic Lodge No. 790, the Meadville Eagles and the Cochranton American Legion James L. Stein Post No. 836. Mr. Seeley was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his dog, Queenie. For several years he was the caretaker and sextant at Peters Cemetery. Mr. Seeley was married Aug. 19, 1950, to Charlsie Halterman, who survives. They were married for 56 years. Also surviving are two daughters, Ann Johnson Miller and her husband, Larry, of Central, S.C., and Carmen Sheets and her husband, Wetzel, of Richmond Va.; six stepgrandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a sister, Betty Hollabaugh of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Seeley was preceded in death by a brother, Gaylord Seeley. Watson, 46, of Strattanville, died at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2007, in Hartford Hospital, Hartford, Conn. Born June 5, 1961, in the Franklin Hospital, he was the son of Robert E. Watson of Mahaffey and the late Mary Jane Karns Watson. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Watson was a truck driver. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Mr. Watson enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles, NASCAR and golfing. On Aug. 28, 1982, he married Tina M. Stewart, who survives. They would have celebrated their 25th anniversary next month. In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by three daughters, Jennifer Wenner and husband, Jeremy, of Strattanville, Kendra Watson of Greensburg and Ashley Ganss and husband, Stanley, of Strattanville; and four grandchildren, Madison Wenner, Ethan Wenner, and Logan and Dylan Watson. He also is survived by a sister, Nancy Brown and husband, Tom, of Knox; a brother, Ron Watson and wife, Kim, of Pine City and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Earl Watson; and his father-in-law, Tom Stewart. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the David C. McEntire Funeral Home, 504 E. Penn St., Knox. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Myers, pastor of the Mount Joy United Methodist Church, Knox RD, officiating.
