Shontz, formerly of 108 Highland Drive, Titusville Harry Slater funeral set Tuesday Shirley S. Smith, Tionesta, formerly of West Monterey Thelma A. Smith, Ninevah William Marsden Berry, 71, of 204 Plummer St., Oil City, formerly of Warren, Pa., died at 11:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home. Born Dec. 26, 1935, in Warren, he was the son of the late William H. Berry and Hazel L. Olsen Berry Holmberg. Mr. Berry was a 1954 graduate of Warren High School and a 1968 graduate of the Lewis Hotel-Motel Manager School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Berry worked as a chef for more than 40 years and while living in the Oil City area he drove a school van for six years for Venango Christian High School, retiring due to ill health. He was married Nov. 17, 1975, to Patricia P. Johnson Kibbey, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Rodney Berry and wife, Judy, of Erie and Donovan R. Berry of Jamestown, N.Y,; four stepchildren; a brother; four sisters; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rena Berry. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc., 1003 Penn Ave. East, Warren, Pa. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Susan Evans, VNA Hospice chaplain, officiating. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association Hospice of Venango County. Kathryn Martin Edinger Kathryn Martin Edinger, 87, of Harvey Road, Foxburg, a long time community volunteer, died at 7:35 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, of injuries she sustained Wednesday in an automobile accident in Butler County. Born June 17, 1920, in Moundsville, W.Va., she was the daughter of Andrew H. and Eve M. Lowe Martin. Mrs. Edinger was employed for 30 years at Central Electric Cooperative in Parker, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Auxiliary of the DeHart-Rossman-Wenner American Legion Post No. 997; Richland Grange of Venango County No. 1413; and a member and past matron of Parker City Chapter No. 60, Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Edinger was a volunteer at the St. Petersburg Senior Center and was a member of the Foxy Flames Red Hats Society. She also was a longtime crew member of the former Allegheny-Clarion Valley Ambulance Service. She was involved in a variety of community service projects and she very much enjoyed picking and delivering daffodils to people she and her husband befriended over the years. Mrs. Edinger was married in Foxburg June 6, 1958, to Harry J. Edinger, who preceded her in death Aug. 30, 2003. Surviving are a son, Gregory T. Edinger of Parker; a grandson, Michael T. Edinger and wife, Lisa, of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Hope Edinger, and a great-grandson, Tyler Lynn, both at home; a sister-in-law, Anna Mae Rhoades of Sligo; and a number of nephews and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Edinger was preceded in death by her parents; a sister on June 10, 1928, who lost her life saving a girl from drowning, for which her family received a Carnegie Medal Award, and a brother who passed away at birth. A memorial service for Mrs. Edinger will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in St. Petersburg United Methodist Church, beginning with an Order of Eastern Star Service and followed by a Christian memorial service with her nephew, the Rev. William C. McGuirk, pastor of St. Florian Roman Catholic Church, and the Rev. Dan Myers, pastor of the St Petersburg United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be at Foxburg Cemetery. Kyle James Hartzell, 21, of Route 257, Seneca, a private in the U.S. Army who was to be stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y., died Saturday evening, Sept. 15, 2007, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca, of injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident earlier that evening on Route 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. Born Jan. 21, 1986, in Franklin, he was the son of Juli Morrison of Seneca and Stephen G. Hartzell of Seneca. He attended the Cranberry schools. Mr. Hartzell was of the Protestant faith. He enjoyed the company of his family and friends. Mr. Hartzell was a racecar enthusiast and a NASCAR fan and had been involved in local dirt track racing. He also enjoyed hunting. He was a private in the United States Army, having recently completed his basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. He was preparing to be transferred to a permanent assignment in Fort Drum, N.Y. Surviving are his mother, Juli Morrison of Seneca and her fiancé, David Motter of Knox; his father, Stephen G. Hartzell and wife, Tracey, of Seneca; two sisters, Kayla Ann Hartzell of Seneca and Nicole Russell and husband, Dave, of Oil City; and a brother, Nicholas J. Hepler of Oil City. He also is survived by his maternal grandmother, Carol Baker and husband, Charles D., of Franklin; paternal grandmother, Marion Hartzell of Tionesta; his grandfather, Donald Fischer of Oil City; and Pvt. Hartzell's girlfriend, Cami Fox of Seneca. Also surviving are the following aunts and uncles and their children who are Mr. Hartzell's cousins: Uncle Ted Hepler and wife, Aunt Jami of Oil City, and their children, Nikole Byers and husband, J.R., of Titusville, and their son Zachery; Cory Sliker of Mississippi, Toby Sliker and wife, Samantha, of Texas, and T.J. and Kristy Hepler of Oil City; Aunt Jodi Webster of Oil City and her children, Codie, Casey and Colten Webster, all of Seneca; Uncle James T. Knapp, 68, of 4146 Sandy Lake Road, Sandy Lake, died at 4:40 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, in his home as a result of his illness. Born Dec. 5, 1938, in Meadville, he was the son of George F. and Helen McGrath Knapp. He was a graduate of Rocky Grove High School where he was well-known as a basketball player. Mr. Knapp was employed for 35 years in the plumbing department at Polk Center, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Franklin Eagles Club and a former member of the Franklin Lions Club. Mr. Knapp enjoyed football, basketball and NASCAR on television. He also had played on several softball teams in the area. He liked hunting but most of all he enjoyed his two grandsons. He was married Oct. 3, 1964, to Bonnie L. Baker, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Charles F. "Butch" Knapp and wife, Peggy, of Lebanon; and two grandsons, William Knapp and Jonathan Knapp of Lebanon. He also is survived by a sister, Shirley Haehn of Grand Valley; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Knapp was preceded in death by his parents. Front St., Oil City, 16301, or to a charity of one's choice. Scott V. Sharp, 36, of Reynoldsville, formerly of Hickory Township, Forest County, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, in Hickory Township. Born Dec. 12, 1970, in Oil City, he was the loving son of James V. and Sonja A. Seely Sharp, who survive in Hickory Township. He was a 1989 graduate of West Forest Area High School, Tionesta, and attended Clarion University and the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville. He obtained his bachelor of science degree and his master' s degree in history and education at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Mr. Sharp was a history teacher and the golf coach at Cranberry High School in Seneca at the time of his death. He enlisted in the Army Reserves and just completed basic training at Fort Sill, Okla. Mr. Sharp was a member of the VFW in Tidioute. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his maternal grandmother, Stella Seely of Pleasantville; a brother, Randy J. Sharp and wife, Jill, of Irvine; a sister, Amanda A. Wagner and husband, Eric, of Franklin; a daughter, Jaxson Matusky Sharp, and a close friend, Amy Matusky, both of Reynoldsville. He also is survived by a nephew, Michael Sharp of Tionesta; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Mr. Sharp was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ed and Hazel Keating; and his maternal grandfather, Bill Seely. There will be no public visitation and all services will be private. Shontz, 88, formerly of 108 Highland Drive, Titusville, died at 12:27 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, in Country Acres Personal Care Home, Titusville. Born June 2, 1919, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Charles and Esther Rhodes Hutchinson. Mrs. Shontz had been employed for 22 years at GTE Sylvania where she worked on the assembly line until her retirement in 1975. She was a former member of the Centerville Women's Club and the Titusville Area Hospital Gray Ladies. Mrs. Shontz enjoyed her home and baking. She was married in Oil City March 23, 1936, to Frank E. Shontz, who preceded her in death May 8, 1985. Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Deane and husband, Duane, of Centerville and Joyce A. Barr of Naples, Fla.; a son-in-law, Richard A. Roggenkamp of Linesville; six grandchildren,Vicki Ott and husband, Max, of Cherokee, Okla., Richard Roggenkamp and wife, Deanna, of Linesville, Kimberly Cramer of Titusville, Jill Hamilton of Cambridge Springs, Anela Cantillo and husband, Omar, of Brentwood, Calif., and William J. Barr of Naples, Fla.; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by two sisters, Leila Hale of Oil City and Pauline Moneypenny of Lake, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Verna G. Roggenkamp; and a brother, Leroy Hutchinson. No public visitation will be observed. Friends may attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Hydetown Baptist Church with the Rev. Vincent Seen, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Riceville Cemetery. Harry Slater funeral set Tuesday Funeral services for Harry Alvin Slater, 90, of Brownies Road, Shippenville, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, Clarion, with the Rev. S. Clair Heitzenrater officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. Mr. Slater died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, in the Clarion Hospital. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbur Slater, and a sister, Anita Brown. Shirley S. Smith Shirley S. Smith, 77, of Tionesta, formerly of West Monterey, Clarion County, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, in her home. Born June 27, 1930, in Clarion, she was the daughter of the late Arthur L. and Susanna C. Bartley Womeldorf. Mrs. Smith was a real estate agent and a legal secretary. She enjoyed the theatre and directed and acted in several plays. She loved bird watching. Mrs. Smith was of the Methodist faith. She was married in Brookville July 15, 1951, to Donn J. Smith, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Gregory A.E. Smith of Penn Hills and Glenn A.E. Smith and wife, Robin, of St. James City, Fla.; two granddaughters, Noel and Kelly Rose, and a grandson, Cody, all of Murrayville; two stepgrandchildren, Jonathan and Jessica Hendricks, and two step-great-grandchildren, Triston and Skylee, all of South Carolina. She also is survived by two brothers, James Womeldorf and wife, Jerry, of Clarion and Lanny Womeldorf of New Derry; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no public visitation and all services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta. Thelma A. Smith Thelma A. Smith, 84, of Ninevah, died at 10:33 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, in the Clarion Hospital. The William A. Rupert Mortuary in Knox is in charge of arrangements.
