Law, getting it right Helen K. Boczon Helen K. Boczon, 84, of 210 St. Mary's Drive, Cherry Hill East, N.J., formerly of 16 Jefferson St., Oil City, died at 3:55 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005, following a short illness. Born July 12, 1920, in Titusville, she was the daughter of Stanley and Catherine Burkot Bajorek. She attended St. Walburga Grade School, Titusville, and was a graduate of Titusville High School. Mrs. Boczon attended the Assumption B.V.M. Church and was a member of the Golden Agers. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Boczon was married in St. Walburga Church Oct. 26, 1946, to Frank G. Boczon, who died Nov. 30, 2004. Surviving are three children and their spouses, Anthony and Frances Boczon of Fredericksburg, Va., Martha and Hollis Provins of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Francis and Ellen Boczon of Ellicott City, Md.; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Boczon was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Walter and Peter Bajorek; a stepsister, Bertha Rog; a stepbrother, Joseph Kaczowka; her stepmother, Agnes Kaczowka; and an infant sister, Leona Bajorek. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday in the Assumption B.V.M. Church with the Rev. John Neff presiding. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Assumption B.V.M. Church or to a charity of one's choice. Thomas R. Danzer Sr. Thomas R. Danzer Sr., 67, of Camp Hill, formerly of Oil City, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005. Mr. Danzer has been an active bridge player and golfer and belonged to the Country Club Civic Association. Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Barker Danzer; and his children, Tracy Spooner of New Cumberland, Scott Shreffler of San Diego, Tom Danzer and John Danzer, both of Franklin, and Amy Danzer of Erie; and six grandchildren. He also is survived by two brothers, Joe Danzer of Albuquerque, N.M., and Robert Danzer of Huntsville, Ala.; and two sisters, Marjorie Straub of Ocean View, Del., and Judy Collins of Pogosa Springs, Colo. Arrangements are in charge of the Auer Memorial Home & Cremation Services, 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg. Mabel E. Dye Mabel E. Dye, 104, of 32 N. Reeds Furnace Road, Sandy Lake, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2005, in Grove Manor Nursing Home, Grove City, after a brief illness. Born Dec. 27, 1900, in Millbrook, Worth Township, she was the daughter of Harry E. and Anna L. Reichard Nicklin. She attended the former Egbert Country School. Mrs. Dye retired in 1965 from Polk State School & Hospital, now Polk Center, after 18 years of service. She attended the Lakeview United Methodist Church. Mrs. Dye was active with the Sandy Lake Senior Center from its origination until she was 102 years old. She enjoyed sewing and playing cards. Mrs. Dye was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Kelly, and then she was married Aug. 31, 1949, to Robert J. Dye, who preceded her in death Dec. 15, 1983. Her family included six generations. Surviving are three daughters, Gladys Boughner Everhart and husband, Raymond, of Jackson Center, Anna L. Hughes of Stoneboro and Sandra Karns and husband, Larry, of Sandy Lake; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and many great-great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and two husbands, Mrs. Dye was preceded in death by one son, Harry L. Kelly; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Dynak, 79, of 99 Mill St., Sheffield, formerly of Rimersburg, died unexpectedly at 8:09 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005, in Kane Community Hospital, Born Nov. 16, 1925, in Rimersburg, she was the daughter of Russell W. and Lena Crisman Arner, and spent most of her life in Sheffield. Mrs. Dynak had worked at the former shirt factory in Kane and the Ruth Smith Assisted Living Center in Sheffield. She attended St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Sheffield. Mrs. Dynak was an avid reader and volunteered at the Sheffield Food Pantry. She was married Aug. 21, 1948, in St. Michael Church to John "Newt" Dynak, who survives. Also surviving is a son, John N. Dynak of Clifton Forge, Va. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in the Borden-Lloyd Funeral Home, 203 W. Main St., Sheffield. Greco, 90, of Tampa, Fla., died Sunday, March 6, 2005, in Laurelbrook Landing in Brookville. Born Jan. 5, 1915, in Maringo, Ala., she was the daughter of Evie E. and Cora L. Smith. Mrs. Greco was a teacher in the public schools in Panama, N.Y., retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Clarion Senior Citizens and the Red Hat Society of Brookville. She enjoyed playing bridge. Mrs. Greco was married May 22, 1943, to Dominick J. Greco, who died Feb. 27, 2004. Surviving are a son, Dom Greco and wife, Janet, of Clarion; two daughters, Betty Danzi and husband, Tom, of Tampa, Fla., and Jayne Rugg and husband, Jim, of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Laura Mock, Carolyn Marasco, Kori Warren, Joseph T. Danzi III and William Greco; and three great-grandchildren, Makenzie Anderson, Hayden Anderson and Mia Marasco. She also is survived by a brother, Spencer Smith of Thomasville, Ala. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Goble Funeral Home of Clarion with the Rev. Ervin Clair Harmon Ervin Clair Harmon, 81, of 3110 Greeley Ave., Erie, formerly of South Bethlehem, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Hamot Medical Center, Erie. He lived in Redbank Valley all his life until moving to Erie a couple of years ago. Born Aug. 23, 1923, in Redbank Township, Armstrong County, he was the son of Cassius Marion and Lola Montey Miller Harmon. He was raised on Oak Ridge Hill and was the 12th of 13 children. Mr. Harmon was a 1942 graduate of New Bethlehem High School. He served in World War II with the 103rd Airborne and while in Guam, he served with the 55th Reconnaissance Squadron flying B-24 aircraft. Mr. Harmon was a heavy equipment operator for several coal companies and also in construction work. He also sold insurance for United Life Insurance Co. and won several trips. He was an active member of the New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, serving in many leadership capacities over the years. While in Erie, he attended the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mr. Harmon was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 522, Walter W. Craig Post 354 American Legion, New Bethlehem VFW and World War II vets. He also was a member of the New Bethlehem Chapter (NBC Chorus) of Barbershop Harmony and enjoyed singing. He also was a member of the Woodstreet Station Romeo Club in New Bethlehem. He was an avid hunter and gardener and took great pride in his garden and flowers. While in Erie, he enjoyed trips to Presque Isle and was fond of his family. He was married Nov. 15, 1947, to Marjorie Jane Morrison, who survives. They were married for 57 years. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Deborah Jane) Keller of Henderson, Nev., and Mrs. Bryan (Eve Dianne) Allen of Erie; and three grandchildren, Mrs. David (Abbey Gale Allen) Camp of Girard, Mrs. Christopher (Poppy Ann Allen) Morrison of Columbia, Md., and Christopher Allen of Erie. He also is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Hockenberry of Middletown; and a brother, Donald L. Harmon of New Bethlehem. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harmon was preceded in death by four brothers, Samuel Orlando, John J., Marion David and Paul Harmon; and five sisters, Ruth Catherine Shick, Jennie Sigworth, Etta Pearl Shreckengost, Frances Shirey and Mary Lypia. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. Ruth Mae Kenney Ruth Mae Kenney, 83, of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Oil City, died Nov. 4, 2004, in her home. She was born Aug. 27, 1921, in Oil City and was a 1939 graduate of Oil City High School. Mrs. Kenney was married to the late Terry Kenney. She moved to Sacramento in 1954 from Buffalo, N.Y. She worked for the Department of Water Resources in Sacramento for more than 30 years. Mrs. Kenney loved music and was a wonderful piano player. During the past 15 years, she donated much of her time and talent to Sacramento's senior citizens. She helped organize and played and sang for many kitchen bands. She entertained at senior centers, retirement centers and nursing homes as much as three times a week despite her health problems. Surviving are three children, Kathleen Frank and husband, Roland, of Sacramento, Calif., and Morrison, Okla., Gregg Kenney and James Kenney, both of Sacramento. Also surviving are grandchildren, Bill Frank of Morrison, Okla., Tim Frank and wife, Angela, of Sacramento, Lara Casey and husband, Tim, of Morrison, Okla., and Spencer Kenney and Gregg Kenney Jr. and wife, Keri, all of Sacramento; and great-grandchildren, Madelyn, William and Charles Frank, Nicolas and Jason Frank, Kylie Mae Casey and Taylor and Lauryn Kenney. A memorial service was held Nov. 10, 2004, in Bethany Presbyterian Church, Sacramento. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Sharon D. Hodgkiss Lawall Sharon D. Hodgkiss Lawall, 55, of Athens, formerly of Henry's Bend, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Bradford County Manor in Troy after a year-long battler with cancer. Born Jan. 8, 1950, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of John Merle and Ruth A. Hodgkiss. Ms. Lawall was a graduate of Shaler Area High School and the Pittsburgh Beauty Academy. She was a professional dog groomer, handler and trainer. Before moving to Athens, she was employed by Hills Department Store in the Cranberry Mall and Big Lots in Franklin. Ms. Lawall enjoyed the outdoors and animals, especially dogs, which she showed professionally. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Surviving are her mother, Ruth A. Hodgkiss of Oil City; two children, Jacob Lawall of Oil City and Darcy Lawall Davidson and her fiance, Walter Senn, of Seneca; two granddaughters, Maranda Davidson and Darian Senn of Seneca; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She also is survived by her fiance, David Nester and his family of Athens. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and her former husband, Leslie H. Lawall, in 2003. Box 6353, Watertown, N.Y., 13601, or to a charity of one's choice. Samuel J. Poidmore Samuel J. Poidmore, 88, of Youngstown, Ohio, died Tuesday evening, March 8, 2005. Born Dec. 20, 1916, in Youngstown, he was the son of Salvatore and Mary DiFalco Poidmore (Poidomani). Mr. Poidmore was a 1935 graduate of East High School, Youngstown, where the basketball team was champion and received several honors. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1936 until 1940 and was called back to duty from 1942 until 1945 during World War II, serving in Hawaii. His last rank was boatswain's mate first class T. Mr. Poidmore worked as a meat cutter at the Gemma Market, Youngstown, and then went to work at Holawach Sparkle, Youngstown, for 14 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Golden Eagles, Smokey Holow Convention and the United Food Workers Union. Mr. Poidmore loved watching and playing baseball. He was on many city teams and played on the Navy team during his enlistment. He enjoyed woodworking, dancing and eating good Italian food. Mr. Poidmore was a special volunteer for the American Heart Association and received an award while living in Atlanta for several years. He was married June 13, 1979, to the former Beverly Johnston Hillman, who survives with many relatives in the Clarion area. Also surviving are a sister, Mary Nedved of California; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was married in 1940 to his first wife, Viola Gemma, who died in 1972. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Florence Vallas; and a brother, Frank Poidmore. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown. George Edward Sires George Edward Sires, 88, of 1882 Route 322, Utica, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, in St. Vincent Health Center, Erie. Born Dec. 3, 1916, in Franklin, he was the son of Joseph and Edna Bean Sires. He attended the Franklin public schools. Mr. Sires was owner and operator of Sires Trucking Co. for many years. He also operated Sires Airways, an air cargo service out of the Franklin Airport. He enjoyed spending time on the houseboat on Conneaut Lake. Mr. Sires was married Oct. 17, 1937, to the former Helen L. Renninger, who died Feb. 8, 1999. Surviving are two daughters, Helen "Dolly" of Franklin and Cathy of Utica; three sons, Richard E. "Dick" Sires, Thomas E. "Ike" Sires and Ronald L. Sires, all of Utica; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two sisters, Martha Foster and husband, Clyde, of Franklin and Dorothy Socha of Oil City. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Sires was preceded in death by five sons, George E. "Mike" Sires Jr., Steven Sires, Raymond T. "Ted" Sires and two infants; and five brothers, Joe Sires, Robert Sires, John Sires, Paul "Ike" Sires and Harry Sires. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Franklin Cemetery. Stella M. Socha Stella M. Socha, 79, of Oil City, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home following a three-year battle with cancer. Born Aug. 9, 1925, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Walenty Grzebieniak and Mary Kowal Grzebieniak Saylor. She attended the Assumption B.V.M. School and was a 1943 graduate of Oil City High School. Mrs. Socha previously was employed by Welker Medical Supply and the Oil City Glass Co. before taking on the career of full time homemaker. She was a member of the Assumption B.V.M. Church and the Golden Agers in Oil City. Mrs. Socha enjoyed preparing and serving meals for banquets and receptions at Assumption Church with the "Kukla Brigade," as well as following her sons' exploits in baseball. Her true pleasure was playing bingo with close friends, Margaret Eisemont and Margie Hoover, and also taking occasional trips to Atlantic City and Niagara Falls. She took pride in her knitting and crocheting talents, making quilts and afghans for her family and grandchildren. Most importantly she cherished spending time with her family and grandchildren. Mrs. Socha was married in the Assumption Church Oct. 12, 1947, to Frank S. Socha, who died Aug. 23, 1996. Surviving are three sons, Frank E. Socha and wife, Rachel, of Towanda, Jim Socha and wife, Roberta, of Rocklin, Calif., and Matt Socha and Gina Wright of Eureka, Calif.; six grandchildren, Becky and Stephen of Towanda, Amanda and Nicholas of Rocklin, Calif., and Salina and Christopher of Eureka, Calif. She also is survived by a brother, Retired Lt. Col. (USAF) Valentine Grzebieniak of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Patricia France of Louisville, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her family, her life was blessed by special relationships with many friends and close neighbors. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Socha was preceded in de ath by a son, Richard Socha; a half brother, Robert Saylor; and an aunt, Stella Dubiel. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Kresinski presiding. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband. Funeral set for Niki Deligiannis Funeral services for Niki Manos Deligiannis, 86, of 1520 Liberty St., Franklin, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. The Rev. Sean W. Rowe, rector of St. John Episcopal Church, Franklin, will officiate. Mrs. Deligiannis died Monday, March 7, 2005, in Sugar Creek Station, Franklin. Among her survivors are seven great-grandchildren. Getting it right - Gladys S. Law Gladys S. Law, 84, of 1440 Chestnut St., Franklin, died at 4:15 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Among her survivors are five sons, Joseph Arthur Harris Jr., Paul D. Law Jr., Timothy E. Law and Otis D. Law, all of Franklin, and Frederick Sidney Harris of Oil City.
