Gourley, Greenville Avenue, Clarion Mary Novak Best Lutz, Dade City, Fla. Paul D. Paden, Homer, NY, formerly of Franklin Shirley J. Salsgiver, Oil City Presbyterian Home, formerly of Walnut Bend Paul E. Berlin Paul E. Berlin, 80, of 910 Main St., Knox, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005, at his residence following a short illness. Born Jan. 27, 1925, in Beaver Township, Clarion County, he was a son of the late Frederick and Bertha McDonald Berlin. Mr. Berlin was a World War II veteran, serving with the U. S. Army Construction Battalion in the Pacific Theater of Operation. He worked for Knox Glass in various capacities for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He also owned Berlin Busing and was a school bus contractor for Keystone School District. Mr. Berlin was very involved in the Knox community. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and attended services there for 77 years. He served on the church council for 15 years and the building and grounds committee for 20 years, and he was involved with the progressive group. He and his family cleaned the church for many years. Mr. Berlin also donated his time and his buses for church and Sunday School activities. He also volunteered for numerous Boy and Girl Scout group activities such as camping at Camp Coffman and the Boy Scout Jamboree. He helped as a cook for the 100th anniversary of Drake Well. Mr. Berlin was also a 34-year member of the Knox Volunteer Fire Company, where he was active in the fire police and worked in the kitchen. In 2002, he was awarded an honorary membership and had been named "fireman of the year" at one time. Mr. Berlin was a member of Edenburg Lodge 550 of the F&AM, the Venango Lodge of Perfection in Oil City and the New Castle Consistory. He belonged to the Clarion County Zem Zems and the Clarion County Shrine Club. He also was a member of the Knox Lions Club for more than 30 years, and he participated in youth field days at Camp Coffman, Horsethief Days, bike races, highway cleanup, Salvation Army fund drive and the Relay for Life annual campaign. He was married March 1, 1943, to Martha Klingler, and she survives. The Berlins celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this year. In addition to his wife, Mr. Berlin is survived by a daughter, Carol Meier of Knox; three sons, Paul Edward "Stoner" Berlin and his wife, Joan, of New Port Richey, Fla., Lee Berlin and his wife, Peggy, of Knox, and Brian Berlin and his wife, Teresa, of Acme; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Walter Berlin of Erie. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the David C. McEntire Funeral Home, 504 E. Penn St., Knox, and from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1051 Twin Church Road, Knox. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Rob McCarty, pastor of St. Paul, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul Union Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice Program, P.O. Box 668, Knox 16232. Helen P. Centorcelli Helen P. Centorcelli, 82, of Long Lane East, Rimersburg, died at 5 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2005, at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, Kittanning, after a lengthy illness. Born Aug. 8, 1922, in Clarion County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Norris Snyder. Mrs. Centorcelli was a 1941 graduate of Rimersburg High School. She retired in 1990 after 21 years as a cafeteria worker in Union School District, Rimersburg. Mrs. Centorcelli was a member of Jerusalem United Church of Christ and the Golden Rule Class, where she served as treasurer for a number of years. She enjoyed her family, flowers and birds and studying the Bible. She had resided at the Clarview Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, since June 2004. Mrs. Centorcelli was married Nov. 5, 1951, in Rimersburg, to Leroy William Centorcelli, who preceded her in death Nov. 6, 1993. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret R. "Peggy" Yori and her husband, Charles R., of Rimersburg; four grandchildren, LaDonna Knight and Michael Centorcelli of Strattanville and Daniel Yori and Lisa Centorcelli of Rimersburg; a great-grandson, Aaron "AJ" Knight of Strattanville; a brother, Lesle "John" Snyder of Lakewood, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Centorcelli was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Box 307, Rimersburg, 16248; or the Eccles Lesher Library, Rimersburg. Clifford L. Detar Clifford L. Detar, 84, of Knox, died Thursday afternoon, March 10, 2005, in the Clarion Hospital. Born April 6, 1920, in Salem Township, he was the son of Clifford and Rosetta Laughner Detar. Mr. Detar was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from the Knox Glass Co., where he had worked for a number of years. Mr. Detar is survived by a son, Clifford Detar Jr.; a daughter, Shirley; a daughter-in-law, Mary; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Knox. The Rev. Randy Evans, Clarion County Hospice chaplain, will officiate. Interment will be in United Church of Christ Cemetery, Lamartine. Helen W. Dolmovich Helen W. Dolmovich, 79, of Mill Street, Rimersburg, died at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Clarview Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, following a lengthy illness. Born July 12, 1925, in Widnoon, she was the daughter of the late Edgar R. and Matilda Fish Traister. Mrs. Dolmovich graduated from Kittanning High School with the Class of 1943. She was a member of Widnoon United Methodist Church in her youth and was a member of the Slavine National Benefit Society of Kaylor. Mrs. Dolmovich was married April 17, 1947, in Kittanning to Rudolph "Rudy" J. Dolmovich, and he survives. Also surviving are a son, Richard Lee Dolmovich of Sligo; a daughter, Deborah Ann Butler and her husband, Robert, of Claremore, Okla.; four grandchildren, James Dolmovich, Pamela Murray and her husband, Michael, Mellisa Smith and her husband, Todd, and Joseph Lee Dolmovich; five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Jared Dolmovich, Madison Elisabeth and Alexandria Katherine Murray and Taylor Thomas Smith; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, the Rev. Mason Traister in 1988 and Leonard Traister in 1980; and a sister, Laura Rumbaugh, in 1968. Dennis Raymond Ferrie Dennis Raymond Ferrie, 65, of 1820 Conewango Ave., Warren, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at Warren General Hospital. Born April 8, 1939, in Warren, he was the son of the late Heath and Anna Fladry Ferrie Sr. Mr. Ferrie was formerly employed with Warren County School District in the building and grounds department, retiring in August 2001. He was a former employee of Valentines Disposal and was an officer in the Elk Township Police Department. He had owned and operated Ferrie Land Market since 1953. Mr. Ferrie attended the First Church of God. He was known as the "pumpkin king of Warren County." He was married July 16, 1994, in Diamond United Methodist Church to the former Jodi Lynn Cresswell, who survives. Mr. Ferrie is also survived by two daughters, Sherry Moore of Scandia and Courtney Ferrie of Clarendon; a son, Raymond Ferrie of Hearts Content; two brothers, Heath Ferrie of Russell and Pat Ferrie of Scandia; a sister, Anna Mae Rowley of Lakeland, Fla.; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a wife, Debra McArthur Ferrie; a brother, Stuart Ferrie; and two sisters, Rachael Ferrie Fox and Mary Lou Ferrie Roberts. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, 1003 Pennsylvania Ave. East, Warren. The Rev. Nelson D. Confer, pastor of the First Church of God, will officiate. 'Jack' Garvey Francis J. "Jack" Garvey, 79, of 34 Carson Ave., Oil City, died Friday afternoon, March 11, 2005, at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. Gourley, 89, of Greenville Avenue, Clarion, died Friday, March 11, 2005, at the Clarion Hospital. Born Aug. 27, 1915, in Monroe Township, Clarion County, he was the son of the late J. Ray and Ella Brown Gourley. Mr. Gourley worked as a truck driver and at Ron Seidle Chevrolet in the parts department. He also drove the wrecker for Seidle. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Clarion, and he was a past member of the Murphy Grange and Odd Fellows Lodge. Mr. Gourley was married Oct. 21, 1939, to Lulu Belle Elder, and she survives. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in October. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joe Gourley and his wife, Evie, and Larry Gourley and his wife, Penny, all of Sligo; two daughters, Garnett Thomas of Lakeland, Fla., and Monta Rader and her husband, Larry, of Clarion; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Cecil Gourley of Sligo; and three sisters, Thelma McMunn of Sharon, Bonnie Love of Corsica and Martha Craig of Clarion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Gourley; and a sister, Betty Pierce. The family suggests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, Clarion. Novak Best Lutz Mary Novak Best Lutz, 103, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, in Dade City, Fla. Among her survivors is a daughter, Helen B. Bell of Myrtle Beach, S.C., formerly of Franklin. Paul D. Paden Paul D. Paden, 59, of Homer, N.Y. and New Smyrna Beach, Fla., died Monday, March 7, 2005, at his Florida home. Born March 21, 1945, in Franklin, he was the son of the late Glen and Pauline Fellner Paden. Mr. Paden was a 1963 graduate of Franklin High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Penn State and his master's from Pace. He retired from IBM in Endicott, N.Y, where he was a systems analyst. Mr. Paden was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He was an award-winning vintner in the Southern Tier Brew Club and an enthusiastic golfer in the Cortland Country Club twelvesome. He was a charter member of the revived South Skaneateles Singing and Sailing Society. Mr. Paden will be remembered for perfecting the art of serious porch sitting. He was also serious about fishing and gourmet cooking. He was married April 25, 1970, in Hawaii, to the former Carol Sessums, and she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Glen Paden Jr. of Winsted, Conn.; and two sisters, Florence Schaub of Christmas, Fla., and Mary Usoff of Polk. Mr. Paden received support from his extended family, friends, blood donors, the medical community, hospice and the Kidney Cancer Online Support Group (www.acor.org). The Dudley Funeral Home, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., is in charge of arrangements. A memorial celebration will be scheduled at a later date at Skaneateles Lake. Salsgiver, 68, a resident of the Oil City Presbyterian Home and formerly of Walnut Bend, died at 3:10 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2005, at Titusville Area Hospital. Born Sept. 25, 1936, in President, she was a daughter of Earl L. Bills and Luella Sparks Sloss. Mrs. Salsgiver was a member of President Chapel. She was married May 10, 1956, to Arthur G. "Bud" Salsgiver, who preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 1986. Mrs. Salsgiver is survived by a son, Timothy Salsgiver and his wife, Angela, of Walnut Bend; two daughters, Cynthia Kapp and her husband, Ray, of Kossuth, and Caramel Hayden and her husband, George, of Walnut Bend; five grandchildren, Jeremy Kapp, Jennifer Ion and Georgie, Holly and Molly Hayden; and five sisters, Omah Gosney of Arkansas, Bertha McLaughlin of Oil City, Mary Sliker of Franklin, Betty Perry of Oil City and Kay Mealy of Wolfs Corners. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Morrison Funeral Home, 110 Petroleum St., Oil City.
