Watts, St. Petersburg Arlie E. Best Arlie E. Best, 81, of Knox, died Sunday, March 27, 2005, in Beverly Healthcare-Shippenville. A complete obituary will be published Tuesday in The Derrick. Davidson, 75, of 22718 Titusville Road, Pleasantville, died at 5:55 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2005, at his residence. Born April 17, 1929, in Titusville, he was a son of the late John and Nora Seyboth Davidson. Mr. Davidson was a 1947 Titusville High School graduate. He was a retired manager with Prudential Insurance Company. Mr. Davidson also worked for Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. He was a member of St. James Memorial Episcopal Church. Mr. Davidson enjoyed woodworking, taking care of his lawn, hunting, playing cards, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was married in 1949 to Barbara Schlosser, who survives in Pleasantville. Surviving are a son, Michael Davidson, of Titusville; four daughters, Tracy Miller and Lori Warth, both of Titusville, and Nan Davidson and Beth Davidson, both of Pleasantville; eight grandchildren, Christopher Davidson and wife, Amy, Andrea Winger and husband, Chris, Seth Davidson, Jim Miller, Jennifer Miller, Diana Warth, Caroline Warth and Amanda Davidson; a great-grandson, Benjamin Davidson; two brothers, Kenneth Davidson and wife, Barbara, of Titusville, and William Davidson and wife, Cynthia, of Florida; a sister, Betty Hoke, of Franklin; a brother-in-law, Gene Schlosser and wife, Jean, of Pleasantville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Davidson was preceded in death by a brother, John Davidson Jr.; a sister-in-law, Edward Miller; and his father- and mother-in-law, Ralph and Gladys Schlosser. No public visitation will be held. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. James Episcopal Church, with the Rev. William French, interim priest, officiating. 'Beezer' Hoover, 79, of Fryburg, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, in Select Specialty Care at Hamot Medical Center, Erie. Born May 30, 1925, in Snydersburg, he was the son of Henry and Mabel Ginkel Hoover. Mr. Hoover attended Farmington School, Leeper. He was a member of St. Michael Church, Fryburg. His first job was working in the coal mines near Lucinda. He later worked at Niederriter Lumber and Koppers Lumber in Marble for 25 years. Mr. Hoover suffered an injury Oct. 24, 1972, at Koppers when he was 47. The incident left him paralyzed. During his work at Koppers he also drove truck for Motter and Guth on the weekends, as well as doing carpentry work for many of his friends and neighbors. After his injury he sharpened chainsaws at his home for many years. Mr. Hoover loved his grandchildren, baseball, gardening, old-time country music and visiting with his friends. He loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest and valued his family, friends, and neighbors above all. Mr. Hoover was married May 22, 1951, to the former Helen M. Denslinger, who survives. In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons, James Hoover and wife, Gail, of Honolulu, Hawaii, Bernard and wife, Jane, of Fryburg, Michael and wife, Karen, of Raleigh, N.C.; one daughter, Sharon "Sherry" and husband, Scott, Gilligan of Sligo; one granddaughter, Jamie Sehgal; six grandsons, Michael Emmel, Ryan Doutt, Matthew Hoover, Christopher Hoover, Kristopher Hoover and Curtis Courson; and two great-granddaughters, Mia Doutt and Shailey Sehgal. Also surviving are one sister, Grace Wolbert and husband, Charles, of Snydersburg; one brother, Leo Hoover and wife, Linda, of Erie; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Hoover and Eugene Hoover; and one grandson Adam Hoover. Joseph Henry Kaltenbach Joseph Henry Kaltenbach, 75, of Lucinda, died Saturday night, March 26, 2005, at Clarion Hospital following an extended illness. Born August 21, 1929, in Marble, he was the son of the late Henry and Eva Eisenman Kaltenbach of Fryburg. Mr. Kaltenbach was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for PennDOT until retiring in 1991. Mr. Kaltenbach was married Nov. 20, 1954, to the former Joan Wilson. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 20, 2004. In addition to his wife, Mr. Kaltenbach is survived by 13 children, Diane Becker and husband, Richard, of Lucinda, Roger Kaltenbach and fiancée, Sara Troup, of Lucinda, Randy Kaltenbach and wife, Debra, of Leeper, Jeff Kaltenbach, Tim Kaltenbach and wife, Charlotte, Bev Schmader and husband, Keith, and Laura Schmader and husband, Jeff, all of Lucinda, Patty Kaltenbach and her friend, Mike Williams, of Emlenton, Debbie Kaltenbach and Eric Kaltenbach of Lucinda, Kevin Kaltenbach and wife, Carol, of Cranberry, Matt Kaltenbach and wife, Shelley, of Shippenville, and Missy McCahan and husband, Greg, of Mifflinburg. James Henry Martin James Henry Martin, 79, formerly of 16 High St., Oil City, died at 9:42 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2005, at UPMC Northwest, Seneca. He had lived at the Oil City Presbyterian Home for the last two years. Born June 19, 1925, in Plumer, Mr. Martin was a son of the late Walter and Elizabeth Josephine Yashinski Martin. He attended St. Joseph schools. Mr. Martin was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a letter carrier in Oil City for 27 years until a stroke disabled him in 1973. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. An avid fisherman and hunter, he also enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. Mr. Martin had belonged to the Pulaski, PNA, Elks, Eagles and Moose clubs in Oil City. He was married Oct. 4, 1952, to the former Elizabeth M. Steirly at Our Lady Help of Christians Church. She preceded him in death March 15, 1996. Surviving are five children and their spouses, Deborah A. and Walter Campman of Oil City, Stephanie M. and David Ace of Franklin, Michael E. and Jeanine Martin of Henderson, Colo., Mary E. Pritchard and her fiancé, Tim Prenatt, of Dempseytown, and James P. Martin of Henderson, Colo.; one sister, Carol Ann Fitchner of Washington; two brothers, Clarence Eugene Martin of Arizona and Lawrence Martin of Washington; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Ruth Gibson Olson Ruth Gibson Olson, 68, of 339 Crestview Drive, Franklin, died at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, in her residence. Born Oct. 26, 1936, in New Castle, she was a daughter of James and Stella Margaret Maxwell Gibson. Mrs. Olson retired as a registered nurse in 1999 from the Franklin Area School District. She was a 1954 New Castle High School graduate and a 1957 graduate of Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She also graduated in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in education from Slippery Rock University. Mrs. Olson was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Franklin, were she was a Sunday school teacher and circle leader. She also was on the church's mission committee, altar guild, Flying Needles, membership care committee and worked in the kitchen for many dinners. She was a charter member of the Historic Preservation Association, a member of the Civic League of Franklin and a member of the Order of Eastern Star Morris Chapter No. 14. Mrs. Olson was a volunteer at The Caring Place and was a past Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She was married July 20, 1963, to Robert M. Olson, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Margaret Ann Cooley and husband, R. Brent, of Frederick, Md., and Patricia Jane Lankford and husband, Jeffery A., of Mechanicsville, Va.; and five step-grandchildren, Megan Marie Cooley, Shannon Nicole Cooley and Carson Brent Cooley, all of Fredrick, Md., and Britney Leigh Lankford and J. Adam Lankford, both of Mechanicsville, Va. Also surviving are two brothers, J. Donald Gibson and wife, Sally, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and G. Russell Gibson and wife, Bobbi, of New Castle; one brother-in-law, Glenn Means of Franklin; one sister, Doris M. Volbers and husband, William A. of Bethel Park; a sister-in-law, Janet K. Gibson, of Jamestown, N.Y.; and 13 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Olson was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles LeRoy Gibson and Paul W. 'Jake' Phillips, 87, of 212 Bank St., Titusville, died at 4:25 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2005, at his residence after battling cancer since 1984. Born Dec. 25, 1917, in Seneca, he was a son of the late Carl Wendell and Genevieve Florence Field Phillips. Mr. Phillips attended a one-room schoolhouse in Pithole. He was a well-known businessman in the area. As a young man, Mr. Phillips opened his own auto body repair shop and progressed to owning a used car lot. He eventually opened his own new car dealership. Mr. Phillips was the developer of Phillips Estates in Pleasantville and owned numerous rental properties in the area. He most recently owned Phillips Used Auto Lot in Titusville. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church. He also belonged to the Landlord Association, BPO Elks Lodge No. 264 in Titusville, and was a former member of the Titusville Area Chamber of commerce. Mr. Phillips was known as a very generous and caring man who loved collecting antique cars, going to auto auctions and area car shows. He also enjoyed playing and collecting guitars, and spent many winters at his home on Marco Island in Florida. Mr. Phillips is survived by one son, Wendell Field Phillips Jr., of Bowie, Texas; one daughter, Fawn Marie Phillips of Livingston, Texas; and six grandchildren, Stephen Phillips and his wife, Anna, of Pleasantville, Jessica LaGrandeur of Providence, R.I., Amber Dawn Phillips of San Angelo, Texas, Wendell F. Phillips III of Bowie, Texas, Laura Wishnok Deemer of Leroy, N.Y., and Sharon Deemer Plossl and husband, Joe, of Wyoming, N.Y. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Shawn LaGrandeur, Olivia LaGrandeur and Haley Marie Phillips; two special friends, Rosemary Rubaker and Jack Sutton; and his loyal dog, Jake, and cat, Spookie. Watts, 84, of St. Petersburg, Clarion County, died at 3:53 a.m. Sunday, March 27, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare-Shippenville following an extended illness. Born Sept. 9, 1920, in St. Petersburg, she was the daughter of William M. and Mary C. Goughler Dittman. Mrs. Watts was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith. She enjoyed reading and playing cards. Mrs. Watts had been employed as an inspector at Continental Can Company in Oil City for more than 31 years. She was a member of the first graduating class of the new St. Petersburg High School in 1938. Mrs. Watts was married to Roy Elno Watts Jr., who preceded her in death Sept. 17, 1997. Surviving are a son William Wray and wife, Maxine, of St. Petersburg; a grandson, Michael D. Wray of St. Petersburg; a granddaughter, Valeri Jo Wray of Mountain Top; a sister, Pearl E. McFadden, of Eau Claire; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Watts was preceded in death by a brother, William Edward Dittman on Oct. 21, 1989; a half-brother, Fred McLaughlin; and a half-sister, Freida Surreena.
