Barr, 58, formerly of Rouseville, died at 12:55 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2005, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca Born Sept. 27, 1946, in Oil City, he was the son of William Charles and Theresa J. Woloszyn Barr. Surviving are nine brothers, Charles Barr, Richard Barr, Ronald Barr, Donald Barr, Terry Barr, James Barr, Joe Barr, Arthur Barr and Alan Barr; and two sisters, Helen Cotton and Virginia Evans. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barr was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jo Aites and Twila Marie Barr. There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. The Morrison Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Best, 80, of Knox, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2005, in Beverly Healthcare-Shippenville. Born March 4, 1925, in Wentlings Corners, he was the son of William Henry and Dillie Sherry Best. Mr. Best attended public schools in Wentlings Corners until he enlisted in the armed forces. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Navy as a seaman second class. He was the recipient of the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. Mr. Best was employed as a machinist for Joy Manufacturing in Franklin, retiring in 1966. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Knox. Mr. Best also was a member of the Parker VFW, the DeHart-Rossman-Wenner American Legion Post in Lamartine, the Knox Rod & Gun Club, the Bucktails and the Wentlings Corners Community Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, bowling, softball, gardening, farming and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Best was married June 14, 1969, to Mary R. Blair Burris, who survives. Also surviving are two sons and their wives, Edward and Ella Burris of Emlenton and Steve and Carla Burris of Shippenville; six grandchildren, Rob Burris of Shippenville, April Redding of Emlenton, Scott Burris of Wentlings Corners, Christie Burris of Slippery Rock, Carrie Burris of Grove City and Michael Deloe of Knox; five great-grandchildren; a numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Best was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Best was preceded in death by four sisters, Lueanna Rhoades, Agnes Van Goder, Mary Best and Freda Shoaff; and seven brothers, Floyd Best, Gerald Best, Ivan Best, Sossoman Best, Benton Best, James Best and Merle Best. Huff, 75, of Knox, died early Monday morning, March 28, 2005, in Clarion Hospital following a brief illness. Born April 17, 1929, in Pine City, she was the daughter of Daniel and Josephine Perry Lechner. Mrs. Huff had worked at Sylvania Electric in Brookville for a number of years. She retired from Knox Glass Co., Knox, where she worked for 29 years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Clarion Chapter. Mrs. Huff was married Oct. 16, 1948, to Paul G. Huff, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter and husband, Jean and Jack Kugler of Knox; a granddaughter, Michele "Mitch" Kugler of Shippenville; a grandson, Charles "Chuck" Kugler of Knox; and one great-grandson, Kyle Bish of Shippenville. She also is survived by a sister, Mary Barlett of Shippenville; and a number of nieces and nephews. Lucas Ryan McClellan Lucas Ryan McClellan, 21, of 105 E. Fifth St., died unexpectedly Monday morning, March 28, 2005, at his residence. Born Dec. 1, 1983, in Oil City, he was the son of Sherry Lynn Jackson McClellan and Clifford McClellan. He was a 2003 graduate of the Venango County vo-tech school with a major in computer programming. Mr. McClellan was involved with Little League baseball in his earlier years and enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowboarding and other outdoor sports and video games. He attended Calvary United Methodist Church. Surviving are his mother, Sherry Lynn Jackson McClellan of Oil City; a sister, Shannon Lee McClellan of Franklin; his father, Clifford McClellan of Titusville; maternal grandparents, Ted and Pearl Jackson of Oil City; an uncle, T.R. Jackson of Oil City; and several great aunts, great uncles and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Merle and Ella McClellan. "Peggy" Fross Miller, 64, of Parker, died at 1:45 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2005, at her residence following a lingering illness. Born Nov. 11, 1940, in Parker, she was the daughter of Dorothy Snyder Fross of Parker and the late Blair Fross. She was a graduate of the former Parker Area High School. Mrs. Miller was employed for a brief time at the former Glass Containers Corp. of Parker. She also was employed as a hostess at the Emlenton Plaza, Exit 5, on I-80 for a period of time. She was a member of the Parker United Methodist Church. Mrs. Miller was a longtime member and officer of the Roy Calvin McGinnis VFW Post 7073 Ladies Auxiliary of Parker. She held the office of president several times and also was chaplain for many years. She was faithful to represent the VFW post at the Memorial and Veterans Day programs in the area. Surviving, in addition to her mother, are three daughters, Pamela Olama and husband, Hossien, of Orlando, Fla., Karen Zeigler of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Susan Myers and husband, Lee, of Parker; one son, Robert Zeigler of Fairbanks, Alaska; and 10 grandchildren, Jessica and Alex Olama, Tabitha, David, Julia, Benjamin, Candice and Aaron Cox, Elizabeth Zeigler-Brabham and Ana-Karin Brosnan. She also is survived by four sisters, Myrna Sabich and Sharon Kelly, both of Parker, Mrs. Stanley (Fayrene) Gardocky of New Castle and Mrs. Joseph (Patricia) Price of Cochranton; her longtime companion, Tony Davenport of Foxburg; a special longtime friend, Betty Jean Johns Patterson of Emlenton; and a number of nieces and nephews. "Big Bear" Slater, 69, of 106 13th St., Greenville, formerly of Oil City, died at 12:40 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2005, in the Oakland VA Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born April 14, 1935, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Harold W. and Beulah Slaughenhaupt Slater. Mr. Slater was a graduate of Oil City High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Slater was a truck driver all his life, retiring in 1989 after driving for various companies. He also owned and operated his own truck at one time. He was a member of the former Greencrest Baptist Church in Greenville. Mr. Slater was married Aug. 18, 1968, to the former Charlotte S. Schneider, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, James R. Hughes and wife, Shirley, of Slippery Rock, Jeffrey A. Hughes of Transfer and Joel T. Hughes and wife, Tina, of Hermitage; seven grandchildren, James Hughes II, Marci Waleff, Joel Hughes II, Jessica Hughes, Autumn Bees, Charann Hughes and Robin Hughes; two great-grandchildren, Elyse Hughes and Alexa Waleff. Luella Jane Troy Luella Jane Troy, 94, formerly of Emlenton and Boyers, died Monday, March 28, 2005, in Sunnyview Home, Butler. Born Sept. 10, 1910, on the family farm in Marion Township, Butler County, she was the daughter of William Joseph and Sarah Jane Ruffener Steiner. Mrs. Troy was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Emlenton. She was a homemaker and was married to the late John F. Troy. 'Beezer' Hoover - Earl A. "Beezer" Hoover, 79, of Fryburg, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, in Select Specialty Care at Hamot Medical Center, Erie. He was an usher for a number of years at St. Michael Church, Fryburg, before his injury. He was a member of the Fryburg Sportsman's Club for more than 50 years and also was a member of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Co. in Fryburg.
