John Robert Eugene Martin, age 4, of Summerville died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, in the Brookville Hospital emergency room. He was born Dec. 22, 2004, in Brookville, the son of Robert E. and Jennifer A. Clinger Martin. He enjoyed cartoons, music, Spiderman and Pat the Hammer. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Haliegh Lynn Martin, Kassandra Reena Lewis and Dakota Rai Martin. He also is survived by his maternal grandparents, John and Debra Clinger of Washington, Pa.; his paternal grandparents, Eugene and Marsha Martin of Strattanville; his maternal great-grandparents, Bob and Shirley Clinger of Summerville and Harry and Martha Faulk of Watertown, N.Y.; and his great-great-grandmother, Marguerite Huffman. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Furlong Funeral Home, 50 Broad St., Summerville. Marwood, 86, of 1109 Elk St., Franklin, died Wednesday afternoon, April 22, 2009, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born May 23, 1922, in Franklin, he was the son of the late James and Mary Pew Marwood. He graduated in 1940 from Franklin High School. Mr. Marwood served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a crew chief and navigator. He was first married March 22, 1947, to the former Elizabeth Rowan, who preceded him in death Sept. 22, 1994. On Oct. 14, 1995, he married Thelma McCoy, who preceded him in death Nov. 12, 2008. Mr. Marwood was a machinist at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. for 27 years. After retiring from there, he went to work as a machinist for Anderson Metal Industries Inc. on Pittsburgh Road in Franklin, and he retired from there after several years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Franklin. He was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was very active in the Venango Toymakers. Mr. Marwood was well known as an artist for his oil paintings. Surviving are a daughter, Sue Hilton of Franklin; a son, Steve Marwood and his wife, Rita, of Linesville; a stepson, Gary McCoy of Meadville; a stepdaughter, Rebecca McCoy Davis of Grove City; and six grandchildren, Beth Friedman and her husband, Chris, of Chippewa Township, Eric Hilton of Seattle, Wash., Michael Hilton and his fiancee, Angela Elliston, of Pittsburgh, Sara Hilton of Morgantown, W.Va., Brad Marwood and his wife, Kortney, of Mechanicsburg, and Tyler Marwood of Beaver Falls. Also surviving are five step-grandchildren, Aaron Davis, Ben Davis and his wife, Ann, and Andrea Davis, all of Grove City, Meghan McCoy of Conneaut Lake and Katie McCoy-Harris and her husband, Randy, of Wilmington, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Lauren, Emily and Matthew Davis of Grove City, Moravia Beach of Franklin and Evan Harris of Wilmington, N.C.; two sisters, Phyllis Krepp and Virginia Nichols, both of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a brother-in-law, Philip Rowan and his wife, Millie, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Born Sept. 7, 1920, in Franklin, he was a son of the late Nathan and Eldoan Hovis O'Connor. He was married Dec. 6, 1944, to the former Charlotte Dodd, who survives. Mr. O'Connor graduated from Franklin High School in 1939. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. O'Connor was employed at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. in the time study and methods department for many years, retiring in 1985. He thoroughly enjoyed his flower gardens and working on different projects around the house. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Franklin and the Friendship Circle Sunday School class, and he was a member of the CPT Quarter Century Club. In addition to his wife, Mr. O'Connor is survived by a son, Craig O' Connor and his significant other, Lorna McClimans, of Franklin; a daughter, Shirley Fagley and her husband, Richard, of New Bethlehem; and three grandchildren, Christie Svolos and her husband, George, of Oil City, Brenda Henry and her husband, Joe, of New Bethlehem, and Barbara Avarello and her husband, Brian, of Brunswick, Ohio. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Sydney Svolos and Ansley Svolos, both of Oil City, Katelyn and Claire Henry of New Bethlehem, and Kyra Avarello and Lauren Avarello, both of Brunswick, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. My friend may send you some. She has extensive research on the Bests in Clarion...Wilhelm is the start of the family and when they went to clarion my Best came up from Westmoreland than went back and the two brothers settled there and he went to Jefferson County..I have some great stories and also have a photo of the stone church where you will find many family members buried there. Ross, Titusville, Fla., formerly of Eau Claire Infant Eaven Evertt Schrum, 4 Deer St., Oil City Mary Louise Sherman, formerly of Highland Oaks, Shippenville Getting it right - Karen S. Gariepy Helen Rose Jackson, 94, formerly of Oil City, passed away Friday, April 17, 2009, in Clermont, Fla. Born Aug. 15, 1914, in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Malloy and Howard Smith Rose. She was the third of five children. She was married to Robert D. Jackson Sr., who preceded her in death in 1969. Mrs. Jackson was the tax assessor for Oil City and was on the board of the Oil City Hospital. She was actively involved in the Child Conservation League, Well Baby Clinic and Meals on Wheels, and she still had time to raise three children and her granddaughter, Deb Jackson. After 80 years in Oil City, she and Deb moved to Florida in 1994 to be with family. She got involved in the Friends of Cooper Memorial Library and in many bridge clubs. She made some wonderful new friends and lived her life with gusto. Her spirit, sense of humor and love live in everyone she knew, and she will be greatly missed. Mrs. Jackson is survived by a sister, Nancy Rose Hanna and her husband, Lee, of Belleaire Beach, Fla.; a granddaughter, Deborah J. Jackson; a son, Robert D. Jackson Jr. and his wife, Arlene; a daughter, Jane E. Jackson; a grandson, Gary R. Jackson; two great-grandsons and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Hunt; a granddaughter, Amy Klingensmith; and a great-grandson, Ian Klingensmith. Helen E. Murphy, 90, of Snydersburg, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 22, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Shippenville. Born Oct. 4, 1918, in Snydersburg, she was the daughter of William and Catherine Ginkel Snyder. She was married to John J. Murphy on June 18, 1946, at St. Joseph Church in Lucinda, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 2002. Mrs. Murphy worked for Aunt Lizzie's Store in Snydersburg and Owens Illinois in Clarion. She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Lucinda and the Rosary Society of the church. Mrs. Murphy is survived by four sons, William J. Murphy and his wife, Eileen, of Cranberry Township, Richard J. Murphy and his wife, Roxanne, of Lucinda, Kenneth M. Murphy and his wife, Donna, of Butler and Timothy J. Murphy and his wife, Susan, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and two daughters, Mary C. Fowler of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Patti A.Kaltenbach and her husband, James L., of Lucinda. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by five brothers, Francis, Leo, Raymond, Edwin and Vincent; three sisters, Gertrude, Bertha and Lucille; and a son-in-law, Robert Fowler. Wiggins, 1094 Beatty Run Road, Utica Gertrude Ann "Trudy" Bauer Willis, Knox Mildred "Ruth" Culbertson, 87, of 18 Mechanic St., Rouseville, and the Golden Living Center of Oil City, died at 10:09 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born May 4, 1921, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Guy and Elma Goodman Cochran, who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Oil City High School. She was married on May 15, 1942, to Kenneth Culbertson, who preceded her in death. In her younger years, she worked at the F.W. Woolworth store in Oil City. Mrs. Culbertson was a member of the Rouseville United Methodist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Rouseville Volunteer Department and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed word find puzzles and crafts, for which she was noted, and her bird, Happy. Surviving are one son, Richard Culbertson of Oil City; one granddaughter, Cathy Long Bechtel, whom Ruth raised; one brother, Jack L. Cochran and friend, SueAnn McKenzie, of Cherrytree; and one sister-in-law, Betty Cochran of Oil City. Also surviving are three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Guy Cochran, one daughter, Rose Marie Long; and one great grandson. Gariepy, 57, of Oil City died at 8:52 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2009, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home, where she had been a resident since July 1, 2007. She suffered for many years with multiple sclerosis. Born Feb. 11, 1952, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Ruby Black Horn and the stepdaughter of Dennis Horn, who survive. She graduated in 1970 from Oil City High School and had been employed at Polk Center and later in several of the grocery stores in the area. Karen enjoyed living in the country and walking through the woods with her dog, Muffin. She also liked to crochet clothes for Barbie dolls and enjoyed fishing. In addition to her mother and stepfather, she is survived by one daughter, Jackie Baughman; one grandson, Michael Helmbold; and one granddaughter, Brittany Baughman, all of Titusville; two brothers, Jay Feely and his wife, Anne, of Seneca and Mark Feely and his wife, Michele, of Townville; three sisters, Mary Glass and her husband, Mike, of Jensen Beach, Fla., Angel Winger and her husband, Greg, of Franklin and Connie Moore of Knox. She is also survived by two stepsisters, Joyce Beach of Rockland and Julie Breck of Weatherly; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and her father, Clyde L. Cleda Virginia McConaughy, 80, of 400 Broad St., Apt. 308, New Bethlehem, died Monday, April 20, 2009, at Jefferson Manor in Brookville. Born Sept. 5, 1928, in Churchville, Va., she was the daughter of Albert Eckard and Katherine Waybright Eckard. She was married to Eugene B. McConaughy, who preceded her in death Oct. 9, 2008. Mrs. McConaughy was employed as a housekeeper at the Days Inn in Brookville, retiring in 1988. She was a member of Oakland Church of God in Distant. Mrs. McConaughy is survived by five children, Melvin Lufsey and his wife, Jodi, of New Bethlehem, Larry Lufsey and his wife, Kim, of Phoenix, Ariz., Randy Evans and his wife, Amy, of New Bethlehem, Cleda Hargis and her husband, Milt, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Gloria Minich and her husband, Randy, of Mayport; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Martha Eckard of Scranton; and four brothers, John Eckard and his wife, Janet, of Sharon, Ralph Eckard of Tennessee, Roy Eckard of Clarion and Elbert Eckard of Sharon. Meade, 85, of 9156 Rt. 322, Cranberry, where she had lived her entire life, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009. Born Dec. 19, 1923, in Van, she was the daughter of Bert C. and Olive McKissick Perry. Mrs. Meade was a graduate of Rockland High School. She was married March 5, 1943, to Harold L. Meade, who preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 2003. She retired from Venango Newspapers in 1989. Mrs. Meade and her husband helped many young people in the Twin City Imperial Drum and Bugle Corps as equipment managers. She liked parades, traveling to Erie with her husband in their motor home, breakfasts at McDonald's, walking in the mall and trips to Atlantic City. Wiggins, 61, of 1094 Beatty Run Road, Utica, died peacefully at 11 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2009, in The Caring Place, Franklin, following an extended illness. Born March 26, 1948, in the Lynnwood neighborhood of East Los Angeles, Calif., he was a beloved son of William James Wiggins and Louise Meyer. He attended the East Los Angeles area schools and graduated from high school. Following graduation, Mr. Wiggins proudly served his country in the U.S. armed forces. Mr. Wiggins was self-employed throughout his life as an experienced auto body specialist and was an exceptionally gifted auto and motorcycle mechanic. He was a proud member of the Florida chapter of the Warlocks Motorcycle Club. In his later years, he tried to stress a positive and peaceful influence of brotherhood upon the younger generation of members. As his health permitted, he enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle and hunting and fishing. He was a great lover of the outdoors, most especially nature's wildlife and the companionship of his dogs. He cherished times spent with his family and close friends. Mr. Wiggins attended Utica Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his children, William J. Wiggins Jr. and his wife, Diana, of Franklin, Michael Wiggins of Utica, Kevin Wiggins of Franklin and Wendy Wiggins of Rocky Grove; a stepdaughter, Jessica Bodien of Utica; and 10 grandchildren, Jessika, Michela, Ashley, Taylor, Malissa, Arianna, Dakota, Gage, McKenzie and Mersadie. Also surviving are his mother, Louise Meyer of Palm Springs, Calif., a half-sister, Lori Bernabe of Long Beach, Calif.; his motorcycle brothers, Bob Robles and Charlie Sheffer; and other cousins and extended family members in California. Preceding him in death in addition to his father were a stepson, Michael Bodien; a twin infant brother, Jack; a sister, Jill; an aunt, Tootsie; and two uncles, Stanley and Clarence. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service in celebration of Mr. Wiggins' life at noon Saturday in Utica Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Jennifer Haddox will officiate. Gertrude Ann "Trudy" Bauer Willis, of Knox, formerly of Lucinda and Lake City, Fla., died early Tuesday morning, April 21, 2009, in her home, following a courageous battle with brain cancer. Born Sept. 22, 1949, in Covington, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Cyril J. Bauer Sr. and Billie Jean Cason Bauer. Ms. Willis was a graduate of North Clarion High School, the U. S. Army Stenographer School and First Coastal Technical Institute for Practical Nursing. She had been employed by Oil City Presbyterian Homes as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) at the time of her illness. Ms. Willis was a member of the U. S. Army during the Vietnam era. She enjoyed spending time with her family, going to yard sales, crocheting, the Internet, refinishing furniture and gardening. Ms. Willis is survived by a son, Ivy L. Willis IV and his wife Kelly; a grandson, Wyatt Beau Willis all of El Paso, Texas; two brothers, Louis "Tony" Bauer of Shippenville and James A. Bauer and his wife, Colleen, of Lucinda; two sisters, Roberta J. Mays and her husband, Dan, and Teresa J. Bauer-Eland and her husband, Randy, all of Lucinda; and a sister-in-law, Deborah Bauer of Leeper. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Willis was preceded in death by a brother, Cyril J. "Butch" Bauer Jr.; a sister-in-law, Karen S. Bauer; two nephews, Adam C. Bauer and J.C. Amsler Beary, 94, of Marble, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Golden Living in Clarion. Born Jan. 28, 1915, in Marble, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin T. and Pearl Mercer Amsler. She was married June 26, 1942, to Vaughn L. Beary, who preceded her in death Oct. 3, 2000. Mrs. Beary was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of the Marble area. She graduated from Farmington High School. She was a 500 Card Club member for 50 years. Mrs. Beary was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Venus where she was a member of the Faith Ruth Circle. She also served on the Washington Township Board of Elections for many years as a clerk. She was an avid gardener and reader. Mrs. Beary is survived by three daughters, Bonnie Strandburg and her husband, Charles, of North Warren, Velma Zock and her husband, James, of Warren and Yvonne Klapec and her husband, Joseph, of Oil City; a son, LeRoy A. Beary and his wife, Janice, of Venus; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Beary of Venus; 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces of nephews. In addition to her parent and husband, Mrs. Beary was preceded in death by a son, Ora Beary; a sister, Ethyl Amsler Hoffman; and two brothers, Clair Amsler and Carm Amsler. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Faller Funeral Home Inc. in Fryburg. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church, in Venus, with the Rev. Donald James Emberg Sr., 86, formerly of East McKeesport, Washington Township, Marienville, Monoreville and Allison Park, died Sunday April 19, 2009, at Family Hospice Center for Compassionate Care in Pittsburgh. Born July 4, 1922, in East McKeesport, he was the son of the late Edwin C. and Irene Flynn Emberg. He was married Aug. 19, 1944, in St. John Lutheran Church, East McKeesport, to Ruth Harriet Emberg, who survives in Allison Park. Mr. Emberg was employed as a band director and music teacher in New Kensington School District, Washington Township School District and East Pittsburgh School District. He retired from the New Kensington School District. Prior to teaching school, he was a professional musician, playing trombone with the Pittsburgh Symphony, McKeesport Symphony, Nixon Theatre Orchestra, Nixon Cafe Orchestra, Pittsburgh Opera Society, Pittsburgh Symphony Pops, radio shows with the Bernie Armstrong KDKA Orchestra and with many dance bands in the Pittsburgh area. Mr. Emberg directed choirs at St. John Lutheran Church in McKeesport, First Presbyterian Church in New Kensington and Faith Lutheran Church in Oklahoma, Pa. For two summers, he was the music director at Camp Lutherlyn in Butler. >From 1966-99, he has owned and operated a band instrument repair shop, Emberg Music. Mr. Emberg belonged to NAPBIRT, National Association of Band Instrument Repairmen. He helped found and was the director of the AI-O-MON Tall Cedars of Lebanon Brass Band in McKeesport. Mr. Emberg was the music chairman and director of combined choirs for the Greater Pittsburgh Area Lutheran Evangelical Mission. He directed the choir for the 50th anniversary service of the Lutheran Service Society. Mr. Emberg was a school board director for four years at Kiski Area schools. While living in the Marienville area, he volunteered for four years with the Clarion-Forest Hospice. When he moved back to Washington Township in 1999, he played trombone in the Monroeville Senior Citizens Chorus "A Touch of Class." Mr. Emberg attended Carnegie Institute of Technology, Duquesne University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has a bachelor's of science degree and a master's degree in music. In college, he belonged to Phi Mu Alpha, Sigma Alpha Episilon and Delta Scull fraternities; glee club, Kilty Band; and was president of his junior class (1943) College of Fine Arts, Carnegie Tech. Mr. Emberg composed a number of church anthems, two of which were presented this past Easter season at First Lutheran Church in New Kensington. He was an avid gardener since 1966, sometimes with up to two acres of vegetables and flowers. Mr. Emberg was a member of The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Monroeville, fraternal member of the Olive Temple 633 AF & AM in Tionesta, Valley Royal Arch Chapter 289 in Export, and Tanored Commandery Knights Templar in Pittsburgh, Syria Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Pittsburgh. He was a lifetime member of the Pittsburgh Musicians' Union Local 60-471 and Pennsylvania Music Educators' Association. In addition to his wife, Mr. Emberg is survived by three children, D. James Emberg Jr. and his wife, Teddy, of Washington Township, Eric V. Emberg and his wife, Brenda, of Shephersville, Ky. and Lynn K. Purse and her husband, William, of Allison Park; and nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Emberg was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the majority of whom have musical talent. There a private visitation. "Kate" Kost, 64, of Effingham, N.H., formerly of the Knox area, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 16, 2009, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. She worked at Parker Glass until its closing, then at Knox Glass until moving to New Hampshire where she was employed as a property manager of Grenich Village Apartments in Dover, N.H. During her years in Clarion County she taught Sunday school at the Callensburg United Methodist Church and was an active den mother for the Salem Cub Scout Pack and the Boy Scout Troop. Over the last decade she had become a stained glass artist and her home is enhanced by many of these designs. In addition to her beloved husband, Kenneth G. Kost, she is survived by a daughter, Renee A. Thompson and her fiancé, Chris Kovacs, of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; a son, Samuel J. Best and his wife, Mary, of Taftville, Conn.; three grandchildren, Shannon Walters of Dover, N.H., and Bradon Walters and Justin Thompson of Knox; one brother, Loni W. Born Nov. 12, 1934 , in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Edna Nuhfer Weaver. She graduated in 1953 from Oil City High School and was a member of St. Stephen Church in Oil City. Mrs Oxenham was married Aug. 30, 1958, in St. Stephen Church by Monsignor Kelly to Stuart J. Oxenham, who survives. They celebrated their 50-year wedding anniversary last August. She first worked at General Telephone Co. and later for Oil City Area School District, where she retired in 1997 as an administrative secretary. In 1954, she was awarded the Carnegie Medal for helping rescue a boy from drowning in the icy Allegheny River. In 1955, General Telephone Co. awarded her the Morris Felton LaCroix Award for Meritorious Service and Signal Achievement for her part in the rescue. A talented artist, Helen was well known in local art circles and exhibited and won numerous awards for her painting at the Transit Art Gallery, where she also volunteered and served on the Arts Council. In addition to her art and painting, she enjoyed reading, swimming, gardening, family gatherings, gallivanting with her sister, Sally, and traveling with her husband. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Mark Oxenham and his wife, Colleen, of Montpelier, Ohio, James Oxenham and his wife, Gayle, of Oil City, Mary Gallagher and her husband, Bill, of Rockaway, N.J., and Michele Wice and her husband, Tim, of Seneca. Irene Joyce Shreffler, 79, of Jal, N.M., entered into restful sleep Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Good Samaritan Village in Hobbs, N.M. Born June 9, 1929, in Zimmerman Hill, she was the daugher of the late John and Florence Asel. She was married June 15, 1951, in Rocky Grove to S.E. "Gene" Shreffler, who survives. They moved from Pennsylvania to Kermit, Texas, in 1952, and one year later moved to their new home in Jal, N.M., where they lived ever since. Irene was a devoted housewife and mother. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in June 1983, and continued loyal to Jehovah God the remainder of her life. In addition to her husband, she is survivied by one sister, Pat Cook of Erie; one brother, Lee Asel of Phoenix, Ariz.; and five children, Steven Shreffler and his wife, Linnie, of Richardson, Texas, Dale Shreffler and his wife, Chris, of Hobbs, N.M., Rick Shreffler and his wife, Kim, of Shamrock, Texas, Pam Shreffler Cole and her husband, Barry, of Las Cruces, N.M., and Kathy Shreffler of Las Cruces, N.M. She is also survived by five grandsons, three granddaughters, two great-granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Asel; and a sister, Ilene Asel Reid. Cremation has already taken place. Woodall, 85, of 510 Oak Hill Road, Fairmount City, died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Clarion Hospital. Born Jan. 24, 1924, in Conifer, he was the son of the late John Woodall Sr. and Nellie Catherine Plyler Woodall. He was married Oct. 14, 1960, to the former Phyllis C. Crawford, who survives. Mr. Woodall had been employed as a manager for Eaton Corp. in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a Protestant. Mr. Woodall was a member of the NBC chorus in New Bethlehem and the Walter W. Craig American Legion Post 354. He was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Force during World War II. John was a loving husband and a wonderful father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, Mr. Woodall is survived by two children, John Woodall Jr. and his wife, Jean, of Tennessee, and Bill Woodall and his wife, Tina, of Fairmount City; five grandchildren, Laura, Shelley, Billie, Hannah and John; and a special friend, Macie. He is also survived by two brothers, Kenneth Woodall and his wife, Polly, of New Bethlehem, and Herbert Woodall and his wife, Ellen, of Richmond, Va. She retired as secretary for Henry Suhr in 2006 after 27 years of service. Prior to her employment with Mr. Suhr, she was employed for 18 years in the trust department at Northwest Bank in Oil City. Upon retiring in 2006, she moved from Red Coach Manor in Oil City to Rolling Green Village in Greenville, S.C. Helen enjoyed quilting, playing bridge, watching Pirates baseball, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City for nearly 40 years. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Hoover of New Wilmington and Brenda Scott of Greenville, S.C.; two brothers, Clarence and Everett Embleton; a sister, Dorothy Watts; a step-son, Peter Berry; five grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 19 years, Robert T. Hipwell; her second husband of 19 years, John F. Berry; two sons, Robert T. Hipwell Jr. and Richard Hipwell; a step-daughter, Joanne McClintock; and a step-granddaughter, Amy McClintock. A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at the Grace United Methodist Church. Born Dec. 10, 1931, on the family farm near Knox, he was the son of the late Edward and Zena Hartzell Hurrelbrink. James was a farmer before he retired. He made his home with his sister, Edith Kagle, for the last three years. He enjoyed farming, cutting wood and his cats. (Swartfager) Johnston, 67, of New Bethlehem, died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Clarion Hospital. Born Aug. 5, 1941, in Callwell, Armstrong County, she was a daughter of Donald Swartfager and Dorothy Shreckengost Swartfager. Mrs. Johnston was a homemaker. She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting and baking, but her greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren. She was married Aug. 23, 1958, in Distant to William Johnston, who survives. Survivors also include a son and his wife, William A. and Mary K. Johnston of Putneyville; four daughters, Amy S. Johnston of New Bethlehem, and Cindy J. Johnston-Levan, Patricia G. Rearick and Victoria A. Johnston, all of Florida. Kinch, 90, of Henry's Bend, died at 11:50 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2009, at Juniper Village in Meadville. Born Aug. 20, 1918, in Fertigs, he was the son of the late Amos and Etta Mae Stuck Kinch. Mr. Kinch attended the Oil City High School. He was a 50-year, 32nd degree member of the Masons, past-master of Fraternal Lodge 483, a member of Petrolia Lodge No. 363 of Oil City, a member of the Venango Lodge of Perfection, Coudersport Consistory, the Zem Zem Temple, and a former master of travel for the National Camper and Travel Association within the Masons. Mr. Kinch attended the President Chapel, where he served on the church board, and previously attended the Rouseville Methodist Church and also Henry's Bend Chapel. He enjoyed performing with the Zem Zem Clown Unit, was a stained-glass and etched-glass artist, and also enjoyed wood-working projects, and his artistry is evident in many homes and businesses throughout the area. Mr. Kinch was a former co-owner of the Main Street Restaurant in Oil City, and also worked as a truck driver for Penland Tankers, as a carpenter, and was a policeman for Rouseville Borough. He was married on Aug. 21, 1941, in Media, to the former Mary Kirkwood, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Michelle Talbott and husband, Jan, of both Cape Coral, Fla., and Henry's Bend; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Kinch of Franklin; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Kinch; and six brothers and six sisters. Motter, at her daughter's home in Erie. She was better known to her loving family as Nanny, to her 29 nieces and nephews as Dede, and to her many friends and neighbors as Jenny. Born April 15, 1919, she was the daughter of Albert and Flora Eisenman. Her family will cherish warm memories of rides on the four-wheeler, spirited games of Euchre, and afternoons on the back porch and will fondly recall many fun-filled trips to Disney World in the Pace Arrow motor home and weekends spent at Aunt Madeline's cottage on the shores of Lake Erie. Nanny loved the holidays and made every effort to make them special for her family. She took great pride in decorating a perfect Christmas tree and coloring the perfect Easter egg. Her famous meatloaf, sweet potatoes, angel food cakes, and date-filled Christmas cookies will be sadly missed. She was an active member of St. Michael Church and Rosary Society. She was particularly proud of her house and spent countless hours maintaining a perfect home. She loved to weed, plant flowers, and get a suntan while mowing the lawn on her tractor. She was a gracious host to all friends and family who walked up the walk and through her doors. April 15, 2009, was her 90th birthday. She is survived by her husband, Carl W. Motter; a daughter, Connie Borland and husband, Ken, of Erie; a grandson, Mark Borland and wife, Carrie, of Erie; and a granddaughter, Tammy, of Walnut Creek, California. Nanny, described by her family as the perfect grandmother in every way, will be sadly missed by her two beloved grandchildren, who were the center of her world. Keener, 90, of 539 Washington St., New Bethlehem, a World War II veteran, died Thursday, April 16, 2009, in Clarion Hospital. Born June 3, 1918, at Distant, he was the son of James Henry and Lena Stegger Keener He was in the U.S. Army during World War II and served in Japan and the Philippines. Mr. Keener was married Nov. 27, 1946, to the former Helen J. Barrett, and she survives. He was employed as a laborer at Carpentertown Coal and Coke Co., and he was a member of Oakland Church of God at Distant. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Thomas Keener of New Bethlehem, Randy Keener of Shannondale and Donny Keener and Diane of Fairmount City; three daughters, Becky Himes and Mike of Brockway, Pat Bricker and Dan of Ohio and Kathy Divins and Rick of New Bethlehem; 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Rugh was a truck driver for 42 years, working for Bowser-Campbell, Knox Glass and R & H Corp. and retiring from J. & M. Leasing. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He belonged to the Teamsters Union, Berlin-Bowser Post 277 of the American Legion in Knox and Knox United Methodist Church. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking, Scrabble, his dog, Abby, and especially his grandchildren. He married Katy Winwood on Feb. 27, 1954, and she survives. Joanne Sonoski, 72, of Austinburg, Ohio, died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman, Ohio, after a six-month illness. Born Aug. 13, 1936, in North Girard, Pa., she was the daughter of Howard and Mary Wintemute. She was married for 53 years to Larry Sonoski Sr., a former Oil City resident and Pennzoil employee. She graduated from Girard High School, where she was a cheerleader. She enjoyed dancing, country western music and polkas. In fact, she met the love of her life, Larry, in Conneaut, Ohio, while he was playing for the Missouri Foxhunters and the Sonny Hayes Band. After they got married, she and the other wives of the band members would always attend the band's performances, dancing the night away. She watched her husband play the accordion on the "Polka Variety Show," which aired every Sunday on Erie television Channel 12. She also watched him play with Frank Yancovic, Art Perko and Frankie Kramer polka bands. She lived in eight different cities because of her husband's job responsibilities of managing different supermarket locations before settling down in Ashtabula County, Ohio, in 1964. When her children were younger, Joanne enjoyed camping and their annual vacation to Canada during Mother's Day, where they spent time together fishing and boating. She also loved to listen to Elvis and enjoyed bowling and working on crossword puzzles. Her grandchildren were her pride. She enjoyed spending time with them and attending their activities, especially watching them twirl the baton in local parades. She was co-owner of Jefferson Golden Dawn for the past 34 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by six children, Cyndi Hamilton and her husband, Charles, Debbie Stapel and her husband, Tom, Laurie Calaway and her husband, Mike, Jacquie Brand and her husband, Jon, Larry Sonoski Jr. and his wife, Tanya, and Chris Sonoski and his wife, Tammy; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Young; three brothers, Johnny Borsukoff, Danny English and Ronnie Wintemute; and an aunt, Mira Robson and her husband, Don. Terence Domres memorial slated Getting it right - Kenneth Dean Simpson Yvonne R. McNerney, 74, of 279 Linden Ave., Oil City, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born Oct. 25, 1934, in Oil City, she was a beloved daughter of the late Robert E. and Marian Graham McNerney. She was a 1952 graduate of Oil City High School. Yvonne began her working career in 1952 as a printing machine operator at The Derrick Publishing Co. of Oil City, where she worked until 1958. Following her tenure with The Derrick, she worked for 37 years as a printing press operator with Quaker State Oil Co. She had always looked forward to and attended the annual Quaker State employee reunion dinners. She was an active and faithful member of St. Joseph Church in Oil City and was a member of the Prime Timers group of the church. She is survived by a son, Kevin M. She was married Sept. 4, 1948, to John "Petty" Petrovich, who preceded her in death Oct. 5, 2008. Mrs. Petrovich worked for 35 years for Morgan Drive Away as a dispatcher. She was a member of the Smethport Fire Department ladies auxiliary. Jane Louise Hughes Welms Robison, 81, of 8 Pearl Ave, Oil City, and Tavares, Fla., died Thursday, April 9, 2009, in Tavares, Fla. Born Dec. 13, 1927, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Perry C. and Dora E. Henderson Hughes. She was first married to Carl J. Welms, who preceded her in death. In 1988, she married Basil W. Robison, who survives. The couple spent their winters at Holiday Mobile Park, Tavares, Fla. She was a 1945 graduate of Franklin High School. After graduating, she worked as an operator for the old General Telephone Co, and then as a secretary for Pennzoil in Rouseville. She also worked at Oilwell Supply Corp. After her daughter was born, she went to work for Worthington until they moved out of Oil City at which time she went to work for National Fuel Gas until her retirement in 1988. Jane had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with her family, particularly her daughter and her sisters. She was close to many of the people she had worked with and was loved by her friends in both Oil City and Tavares. She enjoyed doing things with her friends and family, traveling, gambling, reading, doing puzzles and cheering the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jane is survived by one daughter, Deborah L. Welms Myers and her husband, James Myers, of Cochranton; a stepdaughter, Patti Reed and her husband, John, of Oil City; a sister, Joanne Nesselhauf of Erie; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl; two brothers, Chester D. Hughes and Paul H. Hughes; three sisters, Margaret L. Watt, Edna M. Smith and Helyn Stainbrook; a stepson, Ted Robison; and a dear sister-in-law, Rosalie Riley.
