I have the Clarion County census info up to 1830, and has the male head of household then the gender and age range of each other person living in the home. They had 10children that I know of and three of them married Fitzgeralds: Susannah married John Fitzgerald, Peter marrried Mary Ann Fitzgerald and Henry married Elizabeth Fitzgerald. With respect to the Ann Custer, she was John Jacob's 2nd wife. My Amy was thru the first wife ??? I think? John Jacob had Amy, John, David, Matthew and Eliza by 1st wife. Jane, Rebecca, Jeremiah, Susannah and Samuel by Ann Custer. Joanne Conlon
I am also related to the Michael Dunkle and Nancy Rhea. Trying to figure out which Michael when all the Dunkles gave their children the same names is very confusing! Several helpful people have suggested that this Michael was the son of John Henry Dunkle (who in turn was son of John or Johann Jacob Dunkle), and that John Henry's wife was named Amy. Unfortunately I don't really have documentation for this. 1. John Henry did have a son Michael Dunkle. His will lists : Polly, Jacob, Susannah, Henry, Peter, Martin, Daniel, Amy, Elizabeth, and Michael. 2. Our Michael very likely did have a brother named Peter, since in 1860 Peter, 38, and his son Horace, 10, were enumerated with our Michael's household. In 1850, Michael & Nancy were alone with 5 month old Priscilla, while another household comprised Peter, 45, miner; Mary An (sic), 37; Euphemia, 14; Susannah, 4; Horace, 1; and Nancy Fitzgerald, 30. I know the ages don't match. Neither does Michael's, since he goes from 25 (1850) to 29 (1860), but Michael's wife and daughter age properly. I have heard (but still lack documentation) that: a. This Peter Dunkle's first wife was Mary Ann Fitzgerald, 2nd wife Nancy Fitzgerald. b. Susannah daughter of John Henry Dunkle married John Fitzgerald. For Michael & Nancy Dunkle's daughter Sarah C. Dunkle, I have that she married Joseph Clinton Kuhns. Sarah is buried in the same section of Cooks Forest Cemetery as Nancy, Michael, and their daughter Priscilla. Any help welcome! And thanks to those who have already helped.
Joanne, I'm confused. Who married Sarah Catherine Dunkle? I have this family group in my data base, but I don't know which son of Amy Rebecca Dunkle and Christian Kuhns married Sarah Catherine Dunkle. I wonder if your Amy is related? These folks were married in the Montgomery/Chester county area and then moved on to Mifflin County, then on to Venango/Clarion County in 1823. Their living oldest son married Susanna Dunkle and had 4 maybe 5 children. She died and John (1809), remarried a Mary Beer(s). Johns sister's married Peter Dunkle. It is believed in some circles that This Peter married Mary Ann Fitzgerald first and then Nancy Fitzgerald second. Nancy did live in their home during a census taking and then is listed as his wife. I have never figured out who the Elizabeth Fitzgerald in the Dunkle family is, but Mathais and Sarah may have had a daughter named Eliziabeth. The women are so hard to track. there is a Greg Fitzgerald listed on some trees, but My guess is John and Greg are the same person. Any of this hit home with any one out there??? I would love to hear from you.

One of the ancestor is the brother to Martin (John Jacob Dunkle 1798-1878) I am trying to locate his first wife. His second wife was named Ann Custer. But unfortunately I am related to the 1st. The 2nd Dunkle family is Micheal Dunkle who was born circa 1825. He married Nancy Rhea. I cannot find the parents of Micheal. Tho so far I have found 7 other Micheal Dunkles. My great grandfather's Mother was Amy Dunkle (child of John Jacob) and he married Sarah Catherine Dunkle (child of Micheal) My father always said the two Dunkle families were related but I can't figure out the mess. Anyone have an idea? I just wish they had all been more imaginative with their naming!! Thanks, Joanne
