Vrboncic, Clarion, formerly of Castle Shannon and Florida Melvin Grant Caldwell Melvin Grant Caldwell, 81, formerly of Knox and Clarion, died at 5:50 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, in Hollidaysburg Veterans Home in Hollidaysburg where he had been a resident for four years. Born April 2, 1923, in the Showers homestead near Mechanicsville, he was the son of Harry Bishop Caldwell Sr. and Margaret Showers Caldwell. Mr. Caldwell was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the paratroopers in the European Theater of Operations where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He had been a salesman in the Clarion area for many years and also worked as a club steward. Mr. Caldwell was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarion. He also belonged to the Clarion VFW Post No. 2145 in Clarion for more than 50 years. He also was a member of the Craig E. Fleming American Legion Post No. 63 in Clarion and the Franklin Elks Lodge No. 110. Mr. Caldwell was married Dec. 15, 1945, to Charlotte Brindley, who survives. Also surviving are a son, David Melvin Caldwell and wife, Christy, of Topeka, Kan.; two daughters, Sara Jane Porter of Knox and her husband, Lt. Col. Steven Porter, serving in Kuwait and Lisa Ann Stewart and husband, Eric James, of Sturgis, Mich.; and eight grandchildren, Albert Wayne Caldwell and wife, Bev, of Hephzibah, Ga., Amy Stewart Nevison and husband, Steve, of Huron, Ohio, Jane Caldwell Leger and husband, Thomas, of Osage City, Kan., Erie Matthew Stewart and wife, Carrie, of Sturgis, Mich., David Grant Caldwell of Atchison, Kan., Matthew S. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the church with Nancy Dunmire, minister of the church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Monroe Community Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Clarion-Forest VNA, P.O. Box 668, Knox, or to the Knox Ambulance Co., Knox, 16232. Stephen J. Vrboncic Stephen J. Vrboncic, 93, of Beverly Healthcare-Clarion, formerly of Castle Shannon and Florida, brother of William F. Vrboncic of Vowinckel, died late Wednesday night, Jan. 5, 2005, in the Clarion facility.
