    1. Re: Grady Families of Clarion Co.
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: KUTH Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/5UC.2ACE/1196.1.2.1.2 Message Board Post: where is Clarion Co? we are cousins, my gradmother Gertrude had 1 child -Betty. my daughter will be in your generation. I was raised on stories of the 8 sisters but rest of younger family not interested. my mom was Gertrude's only child. they left Uniontown PA after John O'connell died in 1924 & somehow ended up in North Dakota. She married my dad there & they moved to WA. HERE IS my reply to SHeryl McEntegrat {SP?}: yes it's correct; how are you related to KUTH? are we cousins. I know some of my grandma Gertrude's sisters married McHugh & Monoghan but she' been dead since 1979 & lived in WA since 1933 so she lost touch w/her cousins there. I was in touch w/Eleanor Sweeney in Uniontown PA in 1991 or so but think she's dead also now. The Kuth building in Uniontown PA was torn done in 1996 or so for progress. I was able to duplicate a picture w/the things in background & sun's angle. I will look forward to seeing what you have. Have you traced Leopold back to the Old Country? I just retired in Dec 2004 so now can devote time to this again. God bless you, Cathy Leonard. [1600 W Winnemucca Blvd, Winnemucca NV 89445].

    1. Re: [CLARION] Looking for Twila Smith's e-mail Address re: Stahlman Book
    2. You are correct. I am the Twila Smith of the Stahlman connection and co-author and publisher of the Desc. of Jacob and Anna Maria Reed Stahlman genealogy. My email is TMS1620@aol. Please contact me if you are interested in the book. My paternal aunt Mae (Cowan) Smith Burns was the co-author who had spent over 50 years working on the Stahlman family. She died today in Brookville age 89, her 90th birthday would have been next month. I have missed her interest and sharing genealogy the past 4 years as she declined. She was a special lady. She has an identical twin sister, Della who also lives in the area and the 3 of us published the Walters & Neil family history in 1988. I have all of the original Stahlman material of my aunt as well as much more that I have researched. Any missing Stahlman branches we would love to update- for future publication-I hope. Thanks. Twila Smith

Also, I have 2 photos of PA people in the ?20's? that I can't figure out, but we look related. I am the Great-grandaughter of Leopold's daughter, Leona.

    1. Re: [CLARION] SSDI
    2. Social security law changes over the years so that less people qualify to be listed on the SSDindex than in the 60's etc. Be aware that many teachers and sometimes ministers or others who did /do not pay into social security because they have private pension funds will never appear on the list now. Both spouses used to get social security death payment ($255.?)but that is NOT true in many cases. Neither spouse may qualify. When the second spouse dies there is no death benefit unless there is a dependent living who is on social security...ie. new spouse ,dependent child, etc. There are undoubtedly people missing from the SSDI system as well as people on it that should not be. The social security system is a MESS. When my mother died in Aug. 2004 the social security listed my father as dying instead of MOM. They canceled his SS payments, notified the veterans office which affects benefits, etc. Worst of all they sent my mother a letter saying they were sorry to have been informed that her husband was deceased. They paid my mother a death benefit for my DAD although he was alive- later deducted it. Mom would NOT have qualified for a SSD benefit because she did not work 40 quarters-10 yrs. in system. Then in Sept. my father's name shows up on SSDI on internet with his SS number etc. I was back on the phone to get that erased immediately. You would not believe how many phone calls and visits to SS, legal papers, etc. it took to get this straightened out and it took until mid October. When they finally corrected it they replaced my father with my mother on the SSDI-even though she didn't qualify and was paid no benefit. Moral of the story- have all of your birth certificates, marriage, death certificates available if you expect to get social security. Inform the bank or anyone else of a legal nature - of the death ONLY in writing. (Social security -regional office finally slipped- or made up ?? information that the bank had informed them that my father died.) I heard my father make the phone call to the bank when he asked about accounts and he told them my mother died. SSDI is a very helpful genealogical tool and there are lots of ways to enter information, but some people won't be there...including me (someday)- a retired teacher ( who also paid more than 10 years in SS.) Good luck. Twila Smith

    3. Yes you are right about what to enter when searching....sometimes too much info entered is not good and just a last name (if not real common name) and year of death is the best way when they don't pop up when you put in a lot of info. Good suggestion... ----- Original Message ----- From: <Sawadi2u@aol.com> To: <PACLARIO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 03, 2005 7:35 AM Subject: Re: [CLARION] SSDI > I would suggest that you leave off the middle initial when searching for a > name. 2. I would suggest that you leave off the middle initial when searching for a name. Many of the names in the listing do not show it. Also, in some instances, people have their SS listed under their middle name, or the first name is spelled differently than what you expect. Another possibility is to check "advanced search", then enter only the last name, plus year of birth and/or year of death, when you know them.
