He also indicated that a Mrs. Gay Darwin had authored an Armagost History. I am wondering if the Clarion Historical Society or an individual associated with the Co. would have a copy??

Census takers had the same problem as the rest of the population in those days. They were mostly illiterate. They didn't ask how to spell the name. Whatever it sounded like to them that is the way it was spelled. It was not uncommon for someone to age 3 years in ten or 15 years in ten. Chuck

I was wondering if he is the same person as Casper Gihar. I have seen the Guiher surname spelled at least 4 different ways on different census records. For instance, the 1890 military census has John C. Guiher,s last name spelled Guyer.

Law, getting it right Helen K. Boczon Helen K. Boczon, 84, of 210 St. Mary's Drive, Cherry Hill East, N.J., formerly of 16 Jefferson St., Oil City, died at 3:55 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005, following a short illness. Born July 12, 1920, in Titusville, she was the daughter of Stanley and Catherine Burkot Bajorek. She attended St. Walburga Grade School, Titusville, and was a graduate of Titusville High School. Mrs. Boczon attended the Assumption B.V.M. Church and was a member of the Golden Agers. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Boczon was married in St. Walburga Church Oct. 26, 1946, to Frank G. Boczon, who died Nov. 30, 2004. Surviving are three children and their spouses, Anthony and Frances Boczon of Fredericksburg, Va., Martha and Hollis Provins of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Francis and Ellen Boczon of Ellicott City, Md.; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Boczon was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Walter and Peter Bajorek; a stepsister, Bertha Rog; a stepbrother, Joseph Kaczowka; her stepmother, Agnes Kaczowka; and an infant sister, Leona Bajorek. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday in the Assumption B.V.M. Danzer Sr., 67, of Camp Hill, formerly of Oil City, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005. Mr. Danzer has been an active bridge player and golfer and belonged to the Country Club Civic Association. Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Barker Danzer; and his children, Tracy Spooner of New Cumberland, Scott Shreffler of San Diego, Tom Danzer and John Danzer, both of Franklin, and Amy Danzer of Erie; and six grandchildren. Reeds Furnace Road, Sandy Lake, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2005, in Grove Manor Nursing Home, Grove City, after a brief illness. Born Dec. 27, 1900, in Millbrook, Worth Township, she was the daughter of Harry E. and Anna L. Reichard Nicklin. She attended the former Egbert Country School. Mrs. Dye retired in 1965 from Polk State School & Hospital, now Polk Center, after 18 years of service. She attended the Lakeview United Methodist Church. Mrs. Dye was active with the Sandy Lake Senior Center from its origination until she was 102 years old. She enjoyed sewing and playing cards. Mrs. Dye was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Kelly, and then she was married Aug. 31, 1949, to Robert J. Dye, who preceded her in death Dec. 15, 1983. Her family included six generations. Surviving are three daughters, Gladys Boughner Everhart and husband, Raymond, of Jackson Center, Anna L. Hughes of Stoneboro and Sandra Karns and husband, Larry, of Sandy Lake; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and many great-great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dynak was an avid reader and volunteered at the Sheffield Food Pantry. She was married Aug. 21, 1948, in St. Michael Church to John "Newt" Dynak, who survives. Also surviving is a son, John N. Greco, 90, of Tampa, Fla., died Sunday, March 6, 2005, in Laurelbrook Landing in Brookville. Born Jan. 5, 1915, in Maringo, Ala., she was the daughter of Evie E. and Cora L. Smith. Mrs. Greco was a teacher in the public schools in Panama, N.Y., retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Clarion Senior Citizens and the Red Hat Society of Brookville. She enjoyed playing bridge. Mrs. Greco was married May 22, 1943, to Dominick J. Greco, who died Feb. 27, 2004. Surviving are a son, Dom Greco and wife, Janet, of Clarion; two daughters, Betty Danzi and husband, Tom, of Tampa, Fla., and Jayne Rugg and husband, Jim, of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Laura Mock, Carolyn Marasco, Kori Warren, Joseph T. Danzi III and William Greco; and three great-grandchildren, Makenzie Anderson, Hayden Anderson and Mia Marasco. She also is survived by a brother, Spencer Smith of Thomasville, Ala. Ervin Clair Harmon Ervin Clair Harmon, 81, of 3110 Greeley Ave., Erie, formerly of South Bethlehem, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Hamot Medical Center, Erie. He lived in Redbank Valley all his life until moving to Erie a couple of years ago. Born Aug. 23, 1923, in Redbank Township, Armstrong County, he was the son of Cassius Marion and Lola Montey Miller Harmon. He was raised on Oak Ridge Hill and was the 12th of 13 children. Mr. Harmon was a 1942 graduate of New Bethlehem High School. He served in World War II with the 103rd Airborne and while in Guam, he served with the 55th Reconnaissance Squadron flying B-24 aircraft. Mr. Harmon was a heavy equipment operator for several coal companies and also in construction work. He also sold insurance for United Life Insurance Co. and won several trips. He was an active member of the New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, serving in many leadership capacities over the years. While in Erie, he attended the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mr. Harmon was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 522, Walter W. Craig Post 354 American Legion, New Bethlehem VFW and World War II vets. He also was a member of the New Bethlehem Chapter (NBC Chorus) of Barbershop Harmony and enjoyed singing. He also was a member of the Woodstreet Station Romeo Club in New Bethlehem. He was an avid hunter and gardener and took great pride in his garden and flowers. While in Erie, he enjoyed trips to Presque Isle and was fond of his family. He was married Nov. 15, 1947, to Marjorie Jane Morrison, who survives. They were married for 57 years. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Deborah Jane) Keller of Henderson, Nev., and Mrs. Bryan (Eve Dianne) Allen of Erie; and three grandchildren, Mrs. David (Abbey Gale Allen) Camp of Girard, Mrs. Christopher (Poppy Ann Allen) Morrison of Columbia, Md., and Christopher Allen of Erie. He also is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Hockenberry of Middletown; and a brother, Donald L. Harmon of New Bethlehem. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harmon was preceded in death by four brothers, Samuel Orlando, John J., Marion David and Paul Harmon; and five sisters, Ruth Catherine Shick, Jennie Sigworth, Etta Pearl Shreckengost, Frances Shirey and Mary Lypia. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. Ruth Mae Kenney Ruth Mae Kenney, 83, of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Oil City, died Nov. 4, 2004, in her home. She was born Aug. 27, 1921, in Oil City and was a 1939 graduate of Oil City High School. Mrs. Kenney was married to the late Terry Kenney. She moved to Sacramento in 1954 from Buffalo, N.Y. She worked for the Department of Water Resources in Sacramento for more than 30 years. Mrs. Kenney loved music and was a wonderful piano player. During the past 15 years, she donated much of her time and talent to Sacramento's senior citizens. She helped organize and played and sang for many kitchen bands. She entertained at senior centers, retirement centers and nursing homes as much as three times a week despite her health problems. Surviving are three children, Kathleen Frank and husband, Roland, of Sacramento, Calif., and Morrison, Okla., Gregg Kenney and James Kenney, both of Sacramento. Also surviving are grandchildren, Bill Frank of Morrison, Okla., Tim Frank and wife, Angela, of Sacramento, Lara Casey and husband, Tim, of Morrison, Okla., and Spencer Kenney and Gregg Kenney Jr. and wife, Keri, all of Sacramento; and great-grandchildren, Madelyn, William and Charles Frank, Nicolas and Jason Frank, Kylie Mae Casey and Taylor and Lauryn Kenney. A memorial service was held Nov. 10, 2004, in Bethany Presbyterian Church, Sacramento. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Sharon D. Hodgkiss Lawall Sharon D. Hodgkiss Lawall, 55, of Athens, formerly of Henry's Bend, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Bradford County Manor in Troy after a year-long battler with cancer. Born Jan. 8, 1950, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of John Merle and Ruth A. Hodgkiss. Ms. Lawall was a graduate of Shaler Area High School and the Pittsburgh Beauty Academy. She was a professional dog groomer, handler and trainer. Before moving to Athens, she was employed by Hills Department Store in the Cranberry Mall and Big Lots in Franklin. Ms. Lawall enjoyed the outdoors and animals, especially dogs, which she showed professionally. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Surviving are her mother, Ruth A. Hodgkiss of Oil City; two children, Jacob Lawall of Oil City and Darcy Lawall Davidson and her fiance, Walter Senn, of Seneca; two granddaughters, Maranda Davidson and Darian Senn of Seneca; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She also is survived by her fiance, David Nester and his family of Athens. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents and her former husband, Leslie H. Lawall, in 2003. Box 6353, Watertown, N.Y., 13601, or to a charity of one's choice. Samuel J. Poidmore Samuel J. Poidmore, 88, of Youngstown, Ohio, died Tuesday evening, March 8, 2005. Born Dec. 20, 1916, in Youngstown, he was the son of Salvatore and Mary DiFalco Poidmore (Poidomani). Mr. Poidmore was a 1935 graduate of East High School, Youngstown, where the basketball team was champion and received several honors. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1936 until 1940 and was called back to duty from 1942 until 1945 during World War II, serving in Hawaii. His last rank was boatswain's mate first class T. Mr. Poidmore worked as a meat cutter at the Gemma Market, Youngstown, and then went to work at Holawach Sparkle, Youngstown, for 14 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Golden Eagles, Smokey Holow Convention and the United Food Workers Union. Mr. Poidmore loved watching and playing baseball. He was on many city teams and played on the Navy team during his enlistment. He enjoyed woodworking, dancing and eating good Italian food. Mr. Poidmore was a special volunteer for the American Heart Association and received an award while living in Atlanta for several years. He was married June 13, 1979, to the former Beverly Johnston Hillman, who survives with many relatives in the Clarion area. Also surviving are a sister, Mary Nedved of California; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was married in 1940 to his first wife, Viola Gemma, who died in 1972. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Florence Vallas; and a brother, Frank Poidmore. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Rossi Bros. Funeral Home, Boardman, Ohio. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown. George Edward Sires George Edward Sires, 88, of 1882 Route 322, Utica, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, in St. Vincent Health Center, Erie. Born Dec. 3, 1916, in Franklin, he was the son of Joseph and Edna Bean Sires. He attended the Franklin public schools. Mr. Sires was owner and operator of Sires Trucking Co. for many years. He also operated Sires Airways, an air cargo service out of the Franklin Airport. He enjoyed spending time on the houseboat on Conneaut Lake. Mr. Sires was married Oct. 17, 1937, to the former Helen L. Renninger, who died Feb. 8, 1999. Surviving are two daughters, Helen "Dolly" of Franklin and Cathy of Utica; three sons, Richard E. "Dick" Sires, Thomas E. "Ike" Sires and Ronald L. Sires, all of Utica; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also is survived by two sisters, Martha Foster and husband, Clyde, of Franklin and Dorothy Socha of Oil City. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Sires was preceded in death by five sons, George E. "Mike" Sires Jr., Steven Sires, Raymond T. "Ted" Sires and two infants; and five brothers, Joe Sires, Robert Sires, John Sires, Paul "Ike" Sires and Harry Sires. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Socha, 79, of Oil City, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home following a three-year battle with cancer. Born Aug. 9, 1925, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Walenty Grzebieniak and Mary Kowal Grzebieniak Saylor. She attended the Assumption B.V.M. School and was a 1943 graduate of Oil City High School. Mrs. Socha previously was employed by Welker Medical Supply and the Oil City Glass Co. before taking on the career of full time homemaker. She was a member of the Assumption B.V.M. Church and the Golden Agers in Oil City. Mrs. Socha enjoyed preparing and serving meals for banquets and receptions at Assumption Church with the "Kukla Brigade," as well as following her sons' exploits in baseball. Her true pleasure was playing bingo with close friends, Margaret Eisemont and Margie Hoover, and also taking occasional trips to Atlantic City and Niagara Falls. She took pride in her knitting and crocheting talents, making quilts and afghans for her family and grandchildren. Most importantly she cherished spending time with her family and grandchildren. Mrs. Socha was married in the Assumption Church Oct. 12, 1947, to Frank S. Socha, who died Aug. 23, 1996. Surviving are three sons, Frank E. Socha and wife, Rachel, of Towanda, Jim Socha and wife, Roberta, of Rocklin, Calif., and Matt Socha and Gina Wright of Eureka, Calif.; six grandchildren, Becky and Stephen of Towanda, Amanda and Nicholas of Rocklin, Calif., and Salina and Christopher of Eureka, Calif. She also is survived by a brother, Retired Lt. Col. (USAF) Valentine Grzebieniak of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Patricia France of Louisville, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her family, her life was blessed by special relationships with many friends and close neighbors. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Socha was preceded in de ath by a son, Richard Socha; a half brother, Robert Saylor; and an aunt, Stella Dubiel. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Kresinski presiding. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband. Funeral set for Niki Deligiannis Funeral services for Niki Manos Deligiannis, 86, of 1520 Liberty St., Franklin, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. The Rev. Sean W. Rowe, rector of St. John Episcopal Church, Franklin, will officiate. Mrs. Deligiannis died Monday, March 7, 2005, in Sugar Creek Station, Franklin. Among her survivors are seven great-grandchildren. Getting it right - Gladys S. Law Gladys S. Law, 84, of 1440 Chestnut St., Franklin, died at 4:15 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Among her survivors are five sons, Joseph Arthur Harris Jr., Paul D. Law Jr., Timothy E. Law and Otis D. Law, all of Franklin, and Frederick Sidney Harris of Oil City.

    3. McClelland information: I have Emmaline McClelland as death in 1920 at Sisterville, West Virginia, you have date of death as 1909. Her sister Nettie McClelland Forquer resided in Sisterville on obit of her Father, William Franklin McClelland born 9 9 1828/ died 5 12 1904 in 78th year. His widow Julia Reed was alive at the time of his obit in 1904. Jacob M. Gruber was born in Redbank Township, Clarion County, Pa., son of Peter Gruber and Lydia Mohney. Mong, Shippenville, formerly of Ninevah area Romaine Yvonne Mong, Upper Elk Acres Road, Knox Alice Mae Sebring, Second Avenue, East Brady James R. "Jimmie Dick" Fitterer James R. "Jimmie Dick" Fitterer, 67, of 916 Coal City Road, Kennerdell, died at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born Jan. 28, 1938, in Oil City, he was the son of Levi and Florence Motter Fitterer. He was a 1958 graduate of Oil City High School and in 1961, he attended Penn Technical Institute, Pittsburgh, graduating as an electronic technician. Mr. Fitterer was employed by the Department of Defense in Fort Meade, Md. He retired in 1994 after 32 years of service and returned to the local area. He enjoyed spending four years in England and three years in Japan. His interests were dining out, camping and fishing with his brother-in-law, as well as his children, grandchildren and his dog, Misty. Mr. Fitterer was married in the Pine Hill Church of God July 1, 1962, to the former Frances L. Nelson, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Angela Fitterer of Doylestown, Jennifer Pearl and husband, Rick, of Jefferson, Md., and James W. Fitterer and wife, Kristy, of Kings Bay, Ga.; and seven grandchildren, Erich, Matthew and Hannah Nieberding of Doylestown, Douglas and Dalton Pearl of Jefferson, Md., and Dennis James and Ashley Reanne Fitterer of Kings Bay, Ga. He also is survived by two brothers, Levi Fitterer and wife, LaDonna, of Locust Grove, Va., and Donal Fitterer and wife, Millie, of Fort Myers, Fla.; and two sisters, Millie Spence and husband, Dick, of Oil City and Patty Spence and her companion, Wayne, of Wilmington, N.C. Mong, 65, of Highland Oaks Nursing Home, Shippenville, formerly of the Ninevah area, died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Highland Oaks. Born Dec. 7, 1939, in Ninevah, she was the daughter of Dorothy Adams Mong who survives at Highland Oaks, and the late Harold J. Mong. Miss Mong was a homemaker and resided at home with her parents. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Ninevah. Miss Mong enjoyed watching Rex Humbard on television and doing needlework. Surviving, in addition to her mother, are a brother, the Rev. Keith Mong and wife, Cheryl, of Columbia; three nieces, Valerie Schubert and husband, Ed, of Honduras, Sharon Burke of Ninevah and Robin Ace and husband, Jeff, of Ninevah; one great-niece, Samantha Burke; and six great-nephews, Wesley Schubert, Adam Schubert, Andrew Burke, Grant Ace, Clint Ace and Johnathan Ace. Romaine Yvonne Mong Romaine Yvonne Mong, 72, of Upper Elk Acres Road, Knox, died Monday, March 7, 2005, in Clarview Nursing Home near Sligo. Born in Clarion County April 6, 1932, she was the daughter of Villard Byers Sr. and Ruth Buella Klingensmith Byers. Mrs. Mong worked from 1952 to 1964 at Owens-Brockway. She was a lifelong resident of the Clarion area and attended Faith Church of the Nazarene of Cranberry. Mrs. Mong enjoyed her family, gardening, sewing and traveling. She was married Nov. 19, 1955, to Harry John Mong Jr., who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Shelby Mong of New York City, Rhonda Brehm and husband, Steve, of Scappoose, Ore., and Cheryl Peck and husband, Kevin, of Largo, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Greg, Andrea and Dylan Brehm of Scappoose, Ore., Justin Brehm of Italy and Megan and Amanda Peck of Largo, Fla. She was preceded in death by her father in 1989, her mother in 1987 and her sister, Ruth Switzer in 1985. Alice Mae Sebring Alice Mae Sebring, 81, of Second Avenue, East Brady, died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, after arriving at the Clarion Hospital following a sudden and unexpected heart seizure. Born Oct. 22, 1923, in Perry Township, Armstrong County, she was the daughter of James M. and Nellie Elizabeth Barger Hiles. She attended elementary school at Millers Eddy, McIntyre and Criswell schools and then graduated from Kaylor High School. Mrs. Sebring had been employed at the A&P Grocery Store and at Charles Long's Drug Store, both in East Brady, and then worked at the Bantam Car Co. in Butler during World War II. She was affiliated with the Regular Baptist Church in East Brady. Mrs. Sebring was married in East Brady Feb. 14, 1942, to Clarence E. "Junior" Sebring, who died Sept. 15, 2002. Surviving are two sons, C. James Sebring of Rimersburg and Dennis Lee Sebring of West Freedom, Parker RD; one daughter, Barbara A. Criner and husband, Thomas R., of Rimersburg; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She also is survived by three brothers, Charles L. Born July 4, 1947, in Oil City, he was the son of Ruth Hagadone Bechtel and the late Charles A. "Abe" Bechtel Sr. Mr. Bechtel attended St. Joseph Grade School and was a graduate of Venango Christian High School He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving 20 years in the U.S. Navy. Following his retirement, Mr. Bechtel took a position at the VA Hospital in Batavia, N.Y., until 1996, living there for 16 years. He then moved to Virginia where he took a position with Colonial Williamsburg. He was married in Oil City July 4, 1975, to former Oil City resident Jane Nesbit Koerner, who survives. Also surviving are his mother, Ruth H. Bechtel of Oil City; a daughter, Leah Marie Griffith of Destin, Fla.; a son, Joseph T. Sarbak of Montclair, N.J.; and three grandchildren, Austin Griffith, Conrad and Minyu Sarbak. He also is survived by one brother, William Bechtel of Oil City; four sisters, Alberta Nordstrom of Warren, Mary Hadaway of Ames, Iowa, Janet O'Neil and Doris "Dolly" Bechtel, both of Oil City; a sister-in-law, Mary Bechtel of Titusville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Mr. Bechtel was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Bechtel. There will be no viewing or visitation. Born July 15, 1918, in East Brady, she was the daughter of James and Rose Bowser King. Mrs. Buzard was a member of St. Richard Roman Catholic Church in Rimersburg. She also was a member of St. Richard Ladies Quilters and the Lawsonham Methodist Church Quilters. She was a homemaker. In addition to quilting, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and reading. Mrs. Buzard was married in East Brady April 26, 1946, to Edward R. "Cutty" Buzard, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter and her husband, Rae and Thomas Hoover of Rimersburg; two sons, John Buzard and wife, Nancy, of Rimersburg and James A. Buzard of Deltona, Fla.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She also is survived by a brother, Paul King of East Brady. Heckathorn Davis, 44, of 391 Cooperstown Road, Cooperstown, died at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, in a motor vehicle accident on Route 322 in Victory Heights. Born Sept. 2, 1960, in Oil City, she was a daughter of JoAnn Russell Heckathorn and the late Guy Heckathorn. She was 1978 Cranberry High School graduate. Mrs. Davis had been employed as a dispatcher at the Sugarcreek Borough police station for a number of years and was a police communication officer with the state police barracks in Franklin at the time of her death. She was a member of Heckathorn United Methodist Church. Mrs. Davis enjoyed walking, exercising, riding motorcycles, Bible study and being with her dog, Jacob, who also was killed in the same accident. She was married Sept. 22, 1990, in her home by the Rev. Harry J. Rosenberg to Thomas Edwin Davis. He preceded her in death June 25, 2003. Surviving are her mother of Seneca; three stepchildren, Benjamin Lee Davis who is serving overseas with the U.S. Army, Elizabeth Ann Uskert and her husband, Matthew, of Wilmington, N.C., and Amber Nicole Davis of Seneca; and one brother, Richard Heckathorn and his wife, Charlene, of Franklin, and their children, Jodi, Nick and Jeremy and his wife, Samantha, and their daughter, Kailee. Born March 21, 1918, in Greensburg, she was a daughter of Michael and Kalliope Ascounis Manos. She was a Seton Hill College graduate. Mrs. Deligiannis was co-owner of Franklin Bottling Company with her husband from 1943 until 1985. The business was sold in 1985 to the Pepsi Cola Company. The mother of three sons, she served as a Cub Scout den leader and was a loyal spectator at Little League and Pony League ball games. She was married June 6, 1940, to Aristomenis "Manny" Deligiannis at Chicago's Edgewater Beach Hotel. He preceded her in death Feb. 23, 1999. Surviving are three sons, Robert and his wife, Rita, of Duluth, Ga., Michael and his wife, Sandra, of Franklin, and Constantine "Connie" and his wife, Bonnie, of Richmond, Va.; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Spring St., Titusville, died at 12:13 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2005, in Titusville Area Hospital following a brief illness. Born Feb. 23, 1920, in Titusville, he was the son of David J. and Catherine M. Strawbridge Dowling. He was a lifelong resident of Titusville and attended St. Titus Grade School and was a member of the class of 1939 at St. Joseph Academy. After high school graduation, Mr. Dowling worked in the maintenance department at Titusville Iron Works. Shortly before the start of World War II, he was transferred to the machine shop. In August 1943, Mr. Dowling volunteered to serve in the U.S. Navy. He served with the Seabees (CBMU 541-Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit) in the southwest Pacific Theater and was granted an honorable discharge Feb. 17, 1946, in San Pedro, Calif. After the war, he worked for various contractors in the Titusville area. He was a member of the Carpenters and Joiners of America Local No. 705 in Lorain, Ohio. Later he worked as a bricklayer in Cleveland and was a member of the Brick Mason and Plaster International Union (BM&:PIU) Local No. 5. He was a member of St. Titus Church. Mr. Dowling was married in the rectory of St. Titus Church April 7, 1951, to the former Edna Korb, who survives. They were married by the Rev. James F. Hopkins. From May 17, 1951, until his retirement Oct. 31, 1981, Mr. Dowling owner and operated Marsh Gauge Pole Co. During their retirement years, he and his wife enjoyed playing bridge and traveling to many far away and exotic places including China, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Western Europe, Hawaii and Alaska. In addition to traveling, Mr. Dowling was an avid hunter and raised beagles. Mr. Dowling had a quick wit and the gift of story telling. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a brother, Gerald "Jerry" Dowling and wife, Polly, of Farrell; various sisters and brothers-in-law and countless nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and good friends. Mr. Dowling was preceded in death by his brothers, John Arthur, George and Louis; and sisters, Sr. Mary Camilla, RSM, Sr. Mary Marguer ite, RSM, Florence Butler, Frances Lindsay and Helen Barry. Born Jan. 16, 1906, in Wallaceville, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Bertha Miller Gesin, and lived in Oil City's Siverly neighborhood since she was 12. A homemaker, Mrs. Evans had been a telephone operator with the General Telephone Company in her earlier years. She attended the Willow Street Free Methodist Church. Mrs. Evans enjoyed baking and sewing and loved to be around her children and grandchildren. She was married June 18, 1937, in Maysville, N.Y., to Andrew M. Evans. He preceded her in death Dec. 5, 1981. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Toby) Aikins of Rocky Grove and Mrs. Daniel (Janet) Boland of Loveland, Colo.; four grandchildren, Raymond Aikins Jr., David Aikins and his wife, Amy, Andrew Boland and his wife, Chesy, and Mark Boland; two great-grandchildren, Christian David Aikins and Elijah David Aikins; and several nieces and nephews. The last surviving member of her immediate family, Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by three brothers, Miller, Coder and Orlo Gesin; and two sisters, Mabel Ruth Gibson and an infant. Frederick Everett Key Frederick Everett Key, 68, of Roswell, Ga., formerly of Oil City, died Saturday, March 5, in St. Joseph Hospital, Marietta, Ga., from complications due to transitional cell cancer. Born Jan. 14, 1937, in Brooklyn, Ohio, he was the son of Elmer A. Key and Frances L. Amsden. Mr. Key grew up in Oil City and attended Cranberry High School before moving to Lancaster where he attended Thaddeus Stevens Trade School, now the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. He worked for IBM for more than 30 years as a senior marketing support representative and later retired from MARCAM as a software consultant. He had a passion for woodcarving, enjoying many years as a member of the Southeastern Woodcarver's Association and later pursuing his love of woodcarving with close friends at the Smyrna, Ga., Senior Center. His talents as a woodcarver were appreciated by friends and family and he was a sought after instructor, hosting many classes in character carving. Mr. Key had a love of nature and the outdoors that included a love of gardening and landscaping. He especially enjoyed his koi pond, which he installed in the back yard of his home in Roswell, Ga. He was a founding member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Marietta, Ga., and worked tirelessly with the St. Vincent DePaul Society, organizing the annual Adopt-a-Family Program for needy families in the metro Atlanta area during Christmas time. Mr. Key was married for 46 years to the former Barbara Jean Houser of Lancaster. She died June 22, 2003. Surviving are two sons, James Richard Key of Canyon Country, Calif., and Thomas Patrick Key of Smyrna, Ga.; and a brother, Elmer Scott Key of Alpharetta, Ga. Knecht, 73, of 1007 Pioneer Road, Franklin, died at 5:27 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2005, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Born March 17, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of Albert E. and Charlotte L. Dietzel Knecht. He was a 1949 graduate of Cathedral Latin High School. He earned his BBA degree in 1956 from John Carroll University, Cleveland, and earned his MBA in 1975 from Youngstown State University. Mr. Knecht served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War. He was awarded the National Service Defense Medal for his valor. He relocated with his family in 1977 to the Franklin area where he was employed by Joy Manufacturing Co. as manager of applications support. He retired from Joy Jan. 1, 1994. Mr. Knecht was a faithful member of St. Patrick Church and was very active in the Knights of Columbus, Franklin Council 1020, as a member of the Fourth Degree. He was a member of the zoning hearing board of Sandycreek Township, a board member of the Literacy Council of Venango County and a member of Franklin Elks Lodge No. 110. Mr. Knecht enjoyed golfing with the Senior League of the Sleepy Hollow Golf Club. He also enjoyed gardening and designing and building homes, especially the home in which he and his wife currently resided. He was married June 28, 1958, in Immaculate Conception Church in Willoughby, Ohio, to the former Virginia M. "Ginny" Keefe, who survives. They were married for 46 years. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Michael V. Gold and wife, Annie, of Suffern, N.Y., and Joseph P. Knecht of Raleigh, N.C.; one daughter, Colette M. Smith and husband, Sean, of Latrobe; and four grandchildren, Brendan, Aidan and Kirean Gold of Suffern, N.Y., and Yael Smith of Latrobe. Richard Moyer of Vo-Tech Drive died Sunday, March 6, 2005, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home. Born in Chanute, Kan., he was the son of Claude M. and Lenora Mae Moyer. He grew up in Lakeland, Fla., and moved to Oil City in 1941. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Ranger. That aircraft carrier saw action off the coast of Norway and also was deployed to Newfoundland and Iceland and crossed the Arctic Circle before being sent to the Pacific Theater of Operations. In civilian life, Mr. Moyer spent most of his working years as a sales representative in the gift industry. He enjoyed a lifelong interest and pleasure in golf. He was married March 5, 1946, to Louise Conn, who died July 12, 1980. He was married again Aug. 5, 1982, to Jacqueline Lamb, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Jenny Barney; a son, David Moyer; four stepchildren, Pat Knight, Janet Morley, Judy Vendetti and William J. Andrew Wayne Salsgiver Andrew Wayne Salsgiver, 33, of Wrightsville, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 3, 2005, at his home. He was born in Warren, the son of Karen H. Getty and Lawrence S. Salsgiver. He served as a machinist mate in the U.S. Navy as a member of the submarine force, the "Silent Service." Mr. Salsgiver was a jack of all trades, honest and dependable, and worked at Thermotech of Harrisburg, where he performed, among many tasks, HVAC installations. He attended the Heritage International Assembly Church of Wrightsville. Mr. Salsgiver was married to Tracy Lea Smith, who survives. He enjoyed children and those around him to the fullest. He and his wife, Tracy, were expecting a son, Travis Andrew Salsgiver, within the next two weeks. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his mother, Karen H. Getty of Sandy Lake; his father and stepmother, Lawrence S. and Peg Salsgiver of Leeper; a brother, Robert S. Mr. Burrows was a veteran of World War II, having been inducted into the U.S. Army Dec. 7, 1944, in Erie, and discharged Aug. 12, 1946, in Fort George Meade, Md., with the rank of tech sergeant. He was the recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, Army Occupation of Japan Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Burrows was employed for more than 28 years by Universal Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. He also did farming from 1950 to 1964 and drilled water wells. Mr. Burrows enjoyed hunting, fishing and restoration of antique tractors. He was married in Titusville May 29, 1941, to Ruth Sutton, who died June 14, 1992. Memorials may be made to Easter Seals. David H. Melat David H. Melat, 61, of Titusville, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, in Beverly Healthcare-Titusville. Born July 10, 1943, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Leonard P. and Kathryn M. Hoffman Melat, and was a lifelong resident of the tri-city area. He was a 1962 graduate of Cranberry High School. Mr. Melat worked in the oil fields all his life, being a third generation oil producer. He owned and operated drilling rigs and oil leases throughout northwestern Pennsylvania. He was associated with the Busted Flush Sporting Clay facility in Titusville. Mr. Melat enjoyed hunting and spending time in the outdoors. He also was an avid stamp collector. He was married in Henrys Bend Jan. 17, 2003, to Chris Cartwright, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Kimberly Black and husband, Brett, of Chandler, Ariz.; four sons, Kipp Melat and wife, Cherie, of Fairfax, Va., Kory Melat and wife, Lori, of Seneca and Luke Melat and Jesse Melat, both of Cleveland, Ohio; five grandchildren, Perry Melat and Chloe Melat of Fairfax, Va., Katie Black and Josie Black of Chandler, Ariz., and Kaylyn Melat of Seneca. He also is survived by a sister, Beverly Sisson and husband, Ron, of Warren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Melat was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard P. Melat Jr. and Dennis J. Melat. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Osenider Funeral Home, Oil City. Henderson Rapisardi, 83, of Tionesta, formerly of New Rochelle, N.Y., died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at her home. Born June 30, 1921, in New Rochelle, she was the daughter of Daniel J. Henderson, who died in 1964, and Stella O'Reilly Henderson, who died in 1927. She resided in New Rochelle all of her life until moving to Tionesta in 2001 to be with her daughter. While living in New Rochelle, she attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and graduated in 1940 from New Rochelle High School. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in New Rochelle. She was employed as a sales clerk for W.T. Grant Co. and F.W. Woolworth's there and after retirement, she attended the Doyle Senior Center. After moving to Tionesta, Mrs. Rapisardi became a member of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church and belonged to the Tionesta Senior Club. She was married to Manuel F. Rapisardi, who died in 1977. Surviving are a daughter, Judy Rapisardi McDaid and husband, Bill, of Tionesta; two grandsons, Robert W. McDaid of Tionesta and W. Russell McDaid and wife, Terri, of Lebanon, Pa.; two great-granddaughters, Rose Marie McDaid and Grace Anne McDaid of Lebanon; and a granddaughter, Karen Geoghegan and husband, Bill, of Bethel, Conn. She also is survived by a brother, Peter Henderson and his wife, Janine, of Litchfield, Conn.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Henderson II; three sisters, Estelle Henderson Johnson, Mary Henderson and Barbara Henderson Alfano; and her mother-in-law, Rose Passarelli, in 1989. Ross of 998 Shreve Road, Titusville, died Saturday afternoon, March 5, 2005, at his residence from injuries received in a tractor accident. Born in Titusville, he was the son of Samuel and Marjorie Servey Ross. He was a graduate of Titusville High School and also a graduate of MTA Trucking School in Elizabethtown. Pastor Ross had been employed as a truck driver for Omega Trucking in Wheatland. He was pastor of the Word of Faith Fellowship Church in Butler. He had served as a missionary to Mexico and the Philippines many times. He formerly was associate pastor of the Church of the Word International in Titusville and of Mount Carmel Tabernacle in Dempseytown. He formerly served as pastor of the Wings of Grace Church in Oil City. Pastor Ross was a board member of the ABC Pregnancy Center in Franklin. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandchildren. Pastor Ross was married in Titusville March 27, 1982, to Karen Anthony Southwick, who survives, along with his parents of Titusville. Also surviving are a son, Mark W. Southwick and wife, Cathy, of Raymond, Wash.; three daughters, Sheila See and husband, Dennis, of Meadville, Sherri Southwick of Cambridge Springs and Krista Roberts and husband, Alan, of Sarver; and 12 grandchildren, Katie, Alisha, Kevion, Devon and Karin Southwick, Courtney, Christopher, Joshua and Hannah See and Makenzie, Kalista and Keegan Roberts. He also is survived by two sisters, Grace George and husband, Larry, of Oil City and Bonnie Staub and husband, Lew, of Titusville; two nieces; and two nephews. Jack Lyon Shriver Jack Lyon Shriver, 76, of Laurelbrooke Landing, Brookville, formerly of Titusville, died Friday, March 4, 2005, in the Brookville facility. Born May 14, 1928, in Seymour, Iowa, he was the son of Paul and Charlotte Lyon Shriver. Mr. Shriver attended school in Norman, Okla., and Burbank, Calif., and graduated from Glendale College. He served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Shriver had been co-owner of Boyd and Shriver and then started Shriver Gas and Oil. He retired from Quaker State as a district land manager and previously worked for International Harvester. He was a member of the American Legion Post, VFW Post No. 5958 and the Elks Club No. 502, all of Titusville. Mr. Shriver enjoyed the outdoors and nature and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Surviving are two sons and their wives, Barr and Karen Shriver and John and Deb Shriver, all of Brookville; two daughters and their husbands, Pamela and James Matson of Brookville and Babs and Christopher Rajecki of McKean; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Born Sept. 23, 1944, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Robert Charles Owens Sr. and Gertrude May Lawson Owens. Mrs. Whitten was a homemaker. She was raised by her grandparents, Clarence and Freda Lawson, who are deceased. She enjoyed arts and crafts, computers, photography, Monday Night Wrestling, NASCAR racing, her animals and her family and friends. Mrs. Whitten was married Sept. 26, 1981, to Lewis E. Whitten, who survives, along with her father, Robert Charles Owens Sr. of Elmonte, Calif. Also surviving are a stepson, James Whitten of Franklin; a stepdaughter, Chris Hellem and husband, Chas, of Cooperstown; and five grandchildren, Charles, Bradley and Jacob Hellem of Cooperstown and Randy and Joey Whitten of Tionesta. She also is survived by one brother, Robert Charles Owens Jr. and wife, Alice, of Polk; four cousins, Sharon Stone of Hollywood, Calif., Chris and Penny Domres of Franklin and Ressie Hapac of Cooperstown; three nieces, Missy Betterman, LaDonna Strouse and Tina Pegg, all of Franklin; one nephew, Mike Owens of Franklin; and a special friend, Beth Reed of New York. Mrs. Whitten was preceded in death by her mother and a brother, Robert Matthew Owens. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Deckards Run United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Hamilton, pastor of the Worden Chapel United Methodist Church, officiating.
