This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Hummel, Reese, Weeter Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GaB.2ACE/625 Message Board Post: I am looking for anyone else searching the Henry and Catherine Weeter family. Henry was born in Ohio in 1832 and Catherine was born 1828 in Clarion County. Henry died in January of 1863. Catherine and Henry had six children before his death. Catherine then remarried to John Reese and they had two children. Catherine died in August of 1910 at my gg grandparents house, Joseph F. Hummel and Elivira Malissa Weeter Hummel. I have some information on their children, but would love to compared notes with anyone else that has researched any of the above names. Thanks, Linda
Hi Bev, I had George and Margaret but thanks for placing her for me. I have other George's too. Do you want me to search Tombstone Hoppin for Frank? I'll also search the rest of Jeff. county in the books I have. I stopped searching when I saw your note that you had jJff. Cty. info. Hi Mary, Yes, I have this. The G. W. REITZ is George Washington REITZ. He's not in my branch. There is something about him on Ancestry.com. If you do a general search he will come up on the trees people submit. Margaret REITZ is Margaretha (REBUCK) REITZ, wife of George REITZ. They were parents of Godfrey (1821-1895). Do you need the data on Margaret and George? I'm not sure who the other REITZes are that are over 70. I don't have Patricia's books, but I do have a few of the pages from them. Dear Sondra, Yes, there are a lot of Terwilliger's in this country. Before you go searching for more information, sit down with your family and ask them some things, like where and when they were born and married. Also ask them about you grandparents. Write everything down, including the date you found the information out. Try and find your grandfather's obituary, and get any relevant birth, marriage and death certificates. After you find the dates, you can write back and ask me how to do this if you want. You can find out a lot of information from these documents. Also write things down for you and your sister. I know you might see no point in that now, but it is important. Go to this site http://www.pbs.org/kbyu/ancestors/firstseries/teachersguide/charts-records.h tml and print and ancestor chart and some Family Group Sheets. Fill out one FGS for every family (parents and kids). If you do the things I listed above, it will make your search easier because it will help you decide what area or areas to search in. I also strongly recommend that you contact a genealogical society in your area. It doesn't matter if your family came from there, but there will be members that were in your shoes once, and will help direct you to sources you can look at for more information. Good Luck! Hi Mary, Godfrey Franklin (Frank) REITZ born in May 1862, died between 1912-1920. was married to Catherine McSPARRIN. Catherine was born about June 1864 and died after 1930. I believe Godfrey Franklin REITZ' is the son of Godfrey (Gottfried) REITZ (1821-1895) and Catherine THOMAS (1821-1901); lived Jefferson County. I have all of Godfrey b. 1821 and Catherine's b. 1821 children, too. The son, Godfrey F. (or Frank) was thought to have died in 1886. However, I obtained the 1912 obit for his sister, Elizabeth (REITZ) HIMES and it said in that she had a brother, Frank, living in Climax. That raised a red flag. Climax is in Armstrong County, but I've been told it is also part of Clarion County. A lot of Frank's children and grandchildren were from New Bethlehem, Clarion County. I am in contact with one of his grandsons. I then found out from another researcher that the REITZ that died in 1886, was G. W. REITZ (George Washington REITZ). There are several of us gathering the descendants of Frank. We still are in need of proof that Frank is the son of Godfrey and Catherine (THOMAS) REITZ. As soon as I get an exact death date, I can send for his death certificate since I'm his 2nd great grandniece. I have the certificates of his other 11 siblings. You and I had our first contact in May 2003. Darla Kelly told me you had alot of info about the HIMES. A friend of one of the researchers has a friend looking for the REITZ obits, but Frank or Catherine's hasn't been found yet. If it's not too much trouble, I would appreciate your help, too. You might find it quicker. If you want to be part of the search group, let me know. However, you may get more messages than you'd want. Thanks so much for getting in touch. Dear Bev, There are four books that span from 1912-1920 (Obituaries from The Clarion Democrat 1911-1912, 1913-1915, 1916-1917, 1918-1920), and Frank is not listed. If the Reitz's lived in the New Bethlehem area, you might want to search issues of The Leader-Vindicator. I'm sure some of my Bowersox's are only listed in the LV. I believe the library in Clarion has some issues on microfilm, as well as an obituary index.
