(not Germany), was a son of Andrew Girts (1786/87 - 19 Mar. 1861, Highland Twp., Clarion Co.) & Jane. Andrew was probably born in Derry Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA, and was a son of Henry Girts & Margaret, who moved from Westmoreland Co. to Armstrong Co. sometime after 1802 or so. Henry was in Red Bank Twp., Armstrong Co., possibly the part of Red Bank that was shifted to Clarion Co. in 1839. Henry Girts was a son of Herman/Harmon Girts & Rachel -- Herman died in 1793 in Derry Twp., Westmoreland Co. I have more info on the GIRTS family.

I have heard that three Guntrum brothers came originally to this area and can find many Guntrums on maps and in the Rimersburg cemetery but can'seem to find my branch of the Guntrums. I will be glad to share what I have with anyone else who has information on these families.

Born March 30, 1969, in Oil City, he was the son of the late John F. Gregory Sr. and Diane Dehn Gregory. He was a 1987 graduate of Oil City High School. Mr. Gregory enjoyed golfing and being with his family and friends. He was married Aug. 16, 2002, in Calvary United Methodist Church to Melody J. Spence, who survives. Born June 18, 1920, in Redbank Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of Rubin and Minnie Radaker Hilliard. Mrs. Hinderliter was a homemaker and was of the Protestant faith. She enjoyed solving various word puzzles, quilting and visiting with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. She was married Jan. 16, 1940, to Arthur G. Hinderliter, who survives. They were married for more than 65 years. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Guy (Nancy) Sherry and Mrs. Richard (Linda) McClowry, both of New Bethlehem, and Margie Hinderliter of Clarion; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hinderliter was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Adaline McFarland, 88, of 302 15th St., Franklin, died Monday, April 25, 2005, at her home. Born Nov. 9, 1916, in Ashtabula, Ohio, she was the daughter of Norman and Myrtie Flint Beckwith. Mrs. McFarland worked for the U.S. Post Office from 1941 to 1946 and with the Nurses Aide Corps at the Franklin Hospital. She later worked as a secretary for Martin Gas until her retirement in 1977. She had been an active member of the Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church and had served at various times as financial secretary, deacon and elder of the church. Mrs. McFarland enjoyed volunteering and was the 1993 American Red Cross "Volunteer of the Year." She served as Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and as secretary of the Franklin Little League. On Dec. 26, 1938, she married Max W. McFarland, who died Feb. 28, 1973. Surviving are a daughter, Judith Ann Dunham and husband, Denton, of Erie; four grandchildren, Amanda Kimmy and husband, Nathan, of Union City, Justin McFarland and wife, Sarah, of Douglasville, Ga., Chris Dunham of Los Angeles, Calif., and Chad Dunham of Erie; and a daughter-in-law, Linda McFarland of Erie. Born Sept. 17, 1934, in New Kensington, she was the daughter of Arlo and Esther Irwin Davis. She was a 1953 graduate of New Kensington High School and then attended the Citizens General Hospital School of Nursing for three years, graduating in 1955 with a degree in registered nursing. Mrs. Swonger had worked for the VNA of Butler and worked for several years at General Anchorage Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, before working as a private duty registered nurse for local families. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She also played the autoharp. Mrs. Swonger enjoyed studying the Bible. Her husband of 27 years, Donald Arlo Swonger, survives. He was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church. Mr. Ware also was a member of Oil City Lodge No. 710, F.&A.M., Valley of Oil City, Lodge of Perfection and the Coudersport Consistory. He enjoyed working around the house and in the yard, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Ware was married July 4, 1936, to the former Edith Christine Gaisford, who survives. Eighth Avenue, Clarion Barbara Ann Roser McFadden, 59 Buchanan St., Rouseville Bruce Alan Taylor, Orlando, Fla. Kathryn R. Truitt, Fairmount City Patrick J. Walsh, Old Route 8, Titusville Mabel Gleason Olney Harkness Mabel Gleason Olney Harkness, 92, of Pre-Emption Road, Geneva, N.Y., formerly of Oil City, died Saturday, April 23, 2005, at her hone. Born Jan. 20, 1913, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Charles Wilcox Gleason, a petroleum engineer, and Mabel Amy Fulton Gleason, a school teacher. She was a graduate of Oil City High School and was a 1935 graduate of the University of Rochester with a major in biology. In the 1940s, she received training in library science at the University of Rochester and in 1962, she received a master's degree in Canadian-American History from that university. Mrs. Harkness had resided in Rochester and then Brighton from her college days until 1967. She was the librarian at Stromberg-Carlson Co. from 1942 until 1951; was librarian with the Monroe County Bookmobile from 1952 to 1953; and then worked at the library of Rochester Civic Garden Center from 1953 until 1967. Her first husband, Benjamin Olney, an acoustical engineer with Stromberg-Carlson, died in 1963. Her second husband, Bernard E. Harkness, a taxonomist with the Monroe County Parks System, died in 1980. With his retirement in 1967, they moved to Pre-Emption Road in Geneva and enjoyed their beautiful cobblestone home with its gardens. In 1986 and again in 1993, Mrs. Harkness published updated editions of the Seedlist Handbook, which originally was published by Mr. Harkness. The editions won an award from the American Rock Garden Society, one of the many organizations of which she was a member. Mrs. Harkness had many interests including horticulture and gardening, local history, poetry and current events. She was a trustee of Keuka College from 1971 to 1980 and received an honorary doctorate from that college at its 2003 commencement. Surviving are many cousins including Walter Muth and wife, Carol Sue, of Mount Desert Island, Maine; Marilyn Wilson of Newark and Gail Hyde-Cutcliffe of Rochester; many friends and a dedicated group of caregivers. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Harkness residence at 5169 Pre-Emption Road, Geneva, N.Y. Eighth Avenue, Clarion, died Friday, April 22, 2005, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Oct. 25, 1926, in Avella, Washington County, he was the son of Edward and Mary Ann While Kuhns. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy as a boatman 3rd class. Mr. Kuhns worked as a teacher starting in Salem Township, then teaching in Redbank Valley School District and next taught in Santa Anna Unified Schools in California for 37 years, retiring there. He was a member of the Santa Anna Educators Association, California Teachers Association, N.E.A. and the Foundation to Assist California Teachers, serving as chairman of the board for eight years. Mr. Kuhns was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Clarion and the Clarion American Legion Post. He was married June 4, 1948, to Josephine V. Long, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, James Allen Kuhns and wife, Melody, of Pekin, Ill., Richard Lee Kuhns and wife, Deborah, of Abbottstown and Jeffrey Lynn Kuhns of McSherrystown; and eight grandchildren, Sarah Kuhns, Joseph Kuhns II, Jennifer, James, John, Jessica, Jaclyn and Patrick Kuhns. He also is survived by a sister, Mildred Bish of Blasdell, N.Y. In addition to his parents, Mr. Kuhns was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Charles Kuhns; and seven sisters, Emma Wangler, Jeannette Ross, Stella Shuey, Viola George, Patricia Davis, Beatrice Shuey and Mary Bish. Born March 20, 1932, in Indiana, Pa., she was the daughter of Walter Irvin and Rosalia Barbara Glasstetter Roser. Mrs. McFadden had been employed as manager of SMI Cleaning Co. and then started her own janitorial service, Jake's, in 1992, retiring in 1999. She was a member of St. Venantius Church in Rouseville and was a member of the Rouseville Volunteer Fire Department. Mrs. McFadden was an avid bingo player and loved to cook and spend time with her grandchildren. She was married in Rynd Farm Nov. 19, 1948, to Thomas E. McFadden, who died Oct. 12, 1995. Surviving are three sons and their wives, Randolph T. and Rhonda McFadden of Tampa, Fla., Joseph E. and Ginger McFadden of Rouseville and Timothy J. and Lynn McFadden of Fredricksburg, Va.; a daughter and husband, Barbara A. and Gary Tuten of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by five brothers, Irvin R. Roser of Phoenix, Ariz., Richard Roser of Rouseville, Ronald Roser and Samuel Roser, both of Seneca, and Daniel Roser of Oil City; a sister, Catherine Rybak of Oil City; and several nieces and nephews. Born Sept. 20, 1920, in Mahoning Township, Armstrong County, she was the daughter of William and Myrtle Cramer Darr. Mrs. Truitt was of the Protestant faith and was a homemaker. She was married Feb. 3, 1945, to Howard Wayne Truitt, who died May 31, 2002. Surviving are three sons, Ronald W. Truitt of New Bethlehem RD 1, William Truitt of Mayport and Joseph Truitt of Fairmount City; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Melinda) Henry of Fairmount City and Karen Robinson of Rimersburg; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Walsh Patrick J. Walsh, 49, of Old Route 8, Titusville, died Saturday, April 23, 2005, in Titusville Area Hospital following a massive heart attack. Born March 17, 1956, in Butler, he was the son of F. James "Jim" and Jacqueline M. Bartlett Walsh. He was a 1974 graduate of Butler High School where he was a member of the varsity diving team. He was an All-American diver at Grove City College where in 1978 he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. Mr. Walsh was a sales representative for 22 years in the Titusville area for Zep Manufacturing. He returned to school to continue his education and was in his final year at Clarion University School of Nursing. Mr. Walsh was a deputy game warden in the Titusville area for more than 20 years. He was a member of St. Titus Roman Catholic Church in Titusville and was raised in St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. Mr. Walsh was married Jan. 31, 1981, to Terrie M. Renninger, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Patrick J. Walsh Jr. of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Lindsey Walsh of Titusville; his parents, Jim and Jacqueline Walsh of Butler; a sister, Colleen M. SHIREY (all born PA, also parents) Parker P., husband, b. c1879 Jessie, wife, b. c1883 (died between 1920 and 1930) Robert Leslie, son, b. c1905 Bert E., son, b. c1909 Eugene, son, b. c1911 Parker P. SHIREY was most likely born in Knox Twp., Jefferson Co., PA, the son of Simon R. and Eliza Jane SHIREY. In 1930 Parker is a widower and living alone in Akron, Summit Co., OH. Young and Bessie Elizabeth Seely. Mrs. Young worked in the payroll department for CPT during World War II. She was a member of the Nazarene Church and was active in the church. She was a former member of the Franklin Christian Missionary Alliance Church. She was married Nov. 21, 1945, to Lewis H. Brown, who survives. Also surviving are two children, Curtis P. Keihl, 86, of Karns City, died Friday, April 22, 2005, at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital in Kittanning. Born Jan. 21, 1919, in Pansy, he was the son of Farrel J. and Margaret F. Baughman Keihl. Mr. Keihl was a veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps (4th Raiders, 6th Division) in the Pacific Theater. He witnessed the signing of the peace treaty ending World War II. He was employed at L.A. Leathers Automobile Co. in Brookville; with Baughman Coal Co. in Brookville as superintendent; with S.B.P. Coal Co, Kittanning, as superintendent; and he retired from Sentry Oil and Grease Co. in Cabot. He was a member of the Chicora American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Stanton United Methodist Church of Brookville, John W. Jenks Lodge No. 534, F&AM, Punxsutawney; the Coudersport Consistory and the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona He was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Mr. Keihl also repaired tractors and bought and restored Farmall and Cub tractors. He was married Aug. 31, 1946, to Louise H. Haight, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters and three sons, Sandra J. Snyder of Punxsutawney, Darrell J. Keihl II of Clarion, Randy Keihl of Brookville, Jack D. Keihl of Saxonburg and Kymen L. Mary Grace Radaker Mary Grace Radaker, 95, of Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, died at 5 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2005. Born Aug. 5, 1909, in Licking Township, Clarion County, she was the daughter of Edward and Lidia Elizabeth Thomas Kilgore. Mrs. Radaker was a homemaker, and she also served with her husband as the ministers of the Church of God churches in Oil City, Rimersburg, Meadville, Callensburg and Greenville. She was a member of all those churches, and she last attended the Callensburg and Park Hill Churches of God. She was married Oct. 12, 1929, to the Rev. Ralph J. Radaker, who preceded her in death on May 24, 1991. Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Imogene and Paul McGuirk of Foxburg; two sons and their wives, Herbert and Donna Radaker of Callensburg, and Byron and Shirley Radaker of Palm Desert, Calif.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Radaker was the last surviving member of her immediate family of 13 children. She was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: Rachel, Lottie, Flora, Ethel, Reba, Margaret, Oma, Mildred, George, Merle, Lee and an infant brother. Kutchravy, 64, of 1096 Old Petroleum Center Road, Titusville, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005. Born July 5, 1940, in Connellsville, he was the son of Joseph and Anna Thomas Kutchravy. Mr. Kutchravy was a 1958 graduate of Latrobe High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a message interceptor and decoder. He worked for 27 years in various positions at Pennzoil and retired as a supervisor. Mr. Kutchravy enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, spending time with his grandchildren and extensive traveling. One of his most memorable highlights of traveling was having tea in Jordan with Queen Noor. On Feb. 22, 1974, he married the former LaDonna Irwin Bucholz, who survives. Also surviving are his mother, Anna Kutchravy; two daughters, Anna Kutchravy Murphy and husband, Sean, and Amanda Andres and husband, Rob; three sons, Perry Bucholz, Patrick Bucholz and wife, Jackie, and Gerald Bucholz; and nine grandchildren. He also is survived by three brothers, Thomas Kutchravy, Richard Kutchravy and David Kutchravy; and four sisters, Patricia Fortunato, Joanne Lehman, Karen Hauptman and Deborah Allen. Barry Randall Lang Barry Randall Lang, 47, of Murphysboro, Ill., died at 3:05 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005, as a result of a boating accident on Kinkaid Lake in Myrphysboro. Born April 17, 1958, in Ann Arbor, Mich., he was the son of Richard Gene and Verna Bunker Lang Younkus. Mr. Lang served during peacetime in the U.S. Army. He was a diesel mechanic for Cox Trucking in Murphysboro. Mr. Lang was a member of the American Legion Post No. 127 in Murphysboro. He loved southern Illinois nature and was an avid boater and fisherman. Weidle Lovoff and Adolph "Ad Lovoff Dr. Mary A. Weidle Lovoff, 87, a former Oil City resident, and her husband, Adolph "Ad" Lovoff, 92, of Westlake, Ohio, died approximately 48 hours apart. Dr. Lovoff died at 10 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2005, in Normandy Manor, Rocky River, Ohio, after an extended illness. Mr. Lovoff died at 7:25 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2005, at their residence in Westlake, Ohio. Dr. Mary Weidle Lovoff Dr. Lovoff was born Aug. 13, 1917, in Oil City, the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth L. Stubler Weidle. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School, Oil City. In 1939, she graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and in 1940 she received a master's in hygiene and physical education from Wellesley College. She received her doctorate in medicine in 1950 from Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. Dr. Lovoff completed her rotating internship in 1951 at St. Francis Hospital in Connecticut, and in 1953 she completed her residency in pediatrics from University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. She entered into private practice in 1953 and retired in 1985. She first married Al D. Boehmer, who preceded her in death. In 1966, she married Adolph Lovoff, who preceded her in death April 16, 2005. Dr. Lovoff is survived by four sisters, Patricia Fesenmyer of Altemonte Springs, Fla., Sr. Mary Andrea, O.S.B, of Mount St. Benedict, Erie, Joan Mott and husband, Ed, of Indiana, Pa., and Margaret Matson of Oil City; a sister-in-law, Betty Weidle of Oil City; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Weidle; and three brothers, Joseph, William and James Weidle. Adolph 'Ad' Lovoff Mr. Lovoff was born Oct. 19, 1912, in Malden, Mass., the son of John and Jennie Lovoff. He attended Lawrence Tech and received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Michigan. He did doctoral studies in physics at Cal Tech. Mr. Lovoff was a retired engineer in the nuclear physics area, having worked for NASA in Clevleland, Ohio, for many years. He is survived by two sisters, Vee McNeil of Arkansas and Anne Timmons of California; one niece, Dr. Danya Weinert of Solon, Ohio; and one nephew, Robert Lovoff of California. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lovoff was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Lovoff. Born Jan. 30, 1932, in Oil City, he was the son of Edward and Dorothy McQueeney Alex. Mr. Alex attended the Cranberry Area Schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed from 1950 to 1953 in Washington, D.C. Mr. Alex was employed as a truck driver for Lyons Transportation in Reno, retiring in 1990 after 28 years of service. Born Sept. 18, 1967, in Lakeland, Fla., he was the son of John Uzmack Sr. and Myrna Uzmack. Mr. Uzmack had lived in Mulberry for 13 years, moving there from Knox. He was a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics and had worked as a turbine mechanic. Mr. Uzmack was a member of the Refuge Church of God in Highland City, Fla. Surviving are his mother, Myrna Uzmack of Mulberry, Fla.; three sisters, Lisa Reichart of Naperville, Ill., and Julie Nelson and Carole Uzmack, both of Lakeland, Fla.; and a nephew, Austin Reichart of Naperville, Ill. She had been ill for four months. Born Aug. 7, 1918, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Alton and Hazel Marie Bean Irwin. She was a graduate of Franklin High School and obtained her nursing degree through Dr. Woodrow Bashline at the former Bashline Memorial Hospital. She also attended night nursing school in Sharon. Mrs. Daniels retired in 1980 from Bashline Hospital where she worked for 26 years as a licensed practical nurse (LPN). She also did home healthcare for Dr. Bernard Hoyt and was a caregiver for Annabelle Hamilton's mother. She was a member of the First Church of God in Grove City and attended North Liberty Presbyterian Church with her daughters. Mrs. Daniels enjoyed spending time with her family. She was married March 20, 1939, to Floyd Raymond Daniels, who died July 4, 1983. Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Helen E. and William R. "Bill" Sevin of Grove City and Mary Jo and Michael Kristyak of Mercer; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hays was employed as a nurse at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, where she met and married Dr. Clinton Anderson Hays Sr. in 1938. They moved to Oil City in 1941. Dr. Hays is deceased. While living in Oil City, she was active in the YWCA, the Belles Lettres Club, the Oil City Garden Club and the Winnifred Tonkin Needlework Guild and was a past president of the Schubert Musical and Literary Club. Mrs. Hays was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oil City. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her friends. Mrs. Hays moved in 1993 to Florence, S.C., where she remained active doing volunteer work for the intensive care unit of the Florence General Hospital and the Bruce Hospital Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of the Florence Baptist Temple where she attended the senior saints' class. Gibbons, 80, of 161 Deer Lane, Franklin, died at 2:57 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2005, at UPMC Northwest. Born April 17, 1924, in Franklin, he was a son of Roy M. and Gladys Coxson Gibbons. He was a graduate of Franklin High School. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army, flying 50 missions in the European Theater of Operations from the 15th AAF base in Italy. He was an aerial photographer on a B-24 Liberator heavy bombardment plane. He won his gunner's wings March 5, 1944, in Laredo, Texas. His decorations included the air medal with three bronze oak leaf clusters - "for meritorious achievement in aerial flight while participating in sustained operational activities against the enemy." Mr. Gibbons was a salesman with McCarthy-Buick for 31 years. He also was a salesman for Oil City Dodge, Dumpe Motors, Ibbs-Packer Cadillac and Weaver Buick. He was a member of Worden Chapel United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Franklin Elks Lodge 110, VFW Post 1835, American Legion Post 476, and he was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He was a life member of the Valley of Oil City and New Castle Consistory and was a member of Myrtle Lodge 316. Mr. Gibbons enjoyed hunting. He was married Oct. 30, 1942, to Dorothy E. Heffernan, who survives. Survivors also include many nieces and nephews; a brother, Kenneth Gibbons and his wife, Catherine, of Meadville; a sister, Norma Hamilton and her husband, Richard, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Paige Gibbons of Franklin. His last position and the one he most enjoyed was with State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he worked in the pharmacology department for 20 years. During his life he lived in Pittsburgh; New York; Cleveland, Ohio; St. Louis, Mo.; and Long Island, N.Y. During his retirement, he traveled extensively between Long Island, N.Y., Deerfield Beach, Fla., and Houston, Texas. He was married for 63 years to the former Dorothy V. Jaeger of Brooklyn, N.Y., who survives. Also surviving are two sons, John Michael Hall of Houston, Texas, and Stephen Martyn Hall of Rocky Point, N.Y.; and a daughter, Georgiana Colino of East Setauket, N.Y. "Sonny" "Sy" Hovis, 74, of Eau Claire, died suddenly Friday morning, April 15, 2005, at his residence of natural causes. He entered the U.S. Army on Aug. 21, 1952, and served in the Korean Conflict until May 20, 1954, and was discharged with the rank of corporal. He earned the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Service Medal. Mr. Hovis was employed by Armco Corp. (now AK Steel) in Butler from 1955 until his retirement in 1978. He and his fellow retirees enjoyed luncheons every other month for the past many years. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Eau Claire and had been active for many years in maintenance of the church and working the monthly church dinners. Active in the Parker City-Allegheny Valley Lodge 521, he was a member, past master and trustee of the lodge. He was a member of the New Castle Consistory. Mr. Hovis had served many years as councilman for Eau Claire Borough and was the tax collector at the time of his death and a candidate for re-election. Involved in many borough affairs, he had served the fire company in various capacities, was instrumental in raising money to display American flags throughout the borough and was a senior worker with the annual community day celebration. He worked with the Buzard Funeral Home for more than 30 years in ambulance service and with the day-to-day operations. He was a constant greeter at both the Eau Claire and Parker operations of the funeral home. Mr. Hovis represented the funeral home at the annual ACV Development and Parker Rotary golf tournaments as well as the Burke Scrubgrass Invitational golf tournament since their inception. An avid golfer, he maintained his affiliations with other golf leagues over the years. An avid NASCAR fan, he took great pleasure in following the career of the late Dale Earnhardt Sr. and had created an extraordinary collection of Earnhardt memorabilia. Mr. Hovis was an avid hunter and part-time fisherman. He held trophies for deer and turkey hunting and displayed his skill in his home with mounted trophies. During retirement, he developed an interest in woodworking, and his work - based on floral, hunting, Easter, Christmas and other themes - is displayed in many homes throughout the Eau Claire area. Mr. Hovis was involved in Little League in Eau Claire for many years and was recognized for service from 1968 to 1974 as manager for the league. Surviving are his wife, Earlene Davis Hovis; a daughter, Michele Sullivan and her husband, Terry, of Hilliards; and three sons and their companions, Gregory and Pam of Butler, Michael and Shirley of Georgia and Robert "Robbie" and Linda of Strattanville. Survivors also include six grandchildren, Joshua and Jared Sullivan, and Jason, Holly, Nicole and Zachery Hovis; and two great-grandchildren, William John Smith IV and Kelsey Lynn Sullivan. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Leatrice) Ferguson of Barkeyville and Mrs. Patricia Wade of Hubbard, Ohio; two brothers, Harry Hovis of Butler and Randy Hovis of Greenville; and a number of nieces and nephews. Dr. Joan Pallix Dr. Joan Pallix of Los Altos, Calif., wife of former Oil City resident Daniel Holmes, died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., after a brief illness. Katheryn B. Taylor Katheryn B. Taylor, 96, mother of longtime Oil City resident Peachie Hess, died at 6:35 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2005, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. She had been a resident of the Presbyterian Home in Oil City since Jan. 7, 2005. Born Oct. 30, 1908, in Rockbridge County, Va., she was a daughter of the late William Edward and India Anna Leighton Niceley. Mrs. Taylor was known as a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and was an amateur home remodeler, an accomplished carpenter and family matriarch. Her hobbies included playing the piano, banjo and fiddle. Just last week, she enjoyed the musical program at the Presbyterian Home and was seen singing along and tapping her feet to the music. She was married April 20, 1927, in Rockbridge County, Va., to Coy Ross Taylor, who preceded her in death in 1967. Surviving are a daughter, B. "Peachie" Hess of Oil City; and six grandchildren, Gary Stephen Taylor of Waterman, Ill., whom she helped raise, Barry Cone of DeKalb, Ill., Ed and Deb Cone of Elgin, Ill., Jim and Ann Cone of Park Ridge, Ill., Nancy Hess of Oil City and Christopher Hess of DeKalb, Ill. Survivors also include numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a former daughter-in-law, Louise Morgan of Stuarts Draft, Va. The last surviving member of a family of eight children, Mrs. Taylor was also preceded in death by a son, Bill Taylor; and two granddaughters, Brenda Thornton and Sherma Huffman, whom she helped raise.
