Thomas, Conneaut Lake Robert Lee Vasbinder, 9048 Route 68, Rimersburg J. Louise Yoder, Maple Grove, Rimersburg Ronald E. 'Sonny' Buck Ronald E. "Sonny" Buck, 73, formerly of Franklin, died at 5:15 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home. Born Oct. 10, 1931, in Sugarcreek, he was the son of Rollin E. and Mary Applegate Buck. Mr. Buck was a graduate of Rocky Grove High School and Clarion College. He was an outstanding athlete and was a member of the 1949 Rocky Grove High School District 10 champion basketball team. He was an integral member of the 1951-52 Clarion basketball team that had a record of 21-1, losing to the University of Utah in the National Tournament at Kansas City and was named the "Small College Team of the Year." A sports enthusiast, Mr. Buck played several years on softball and fast-pitch softball teams competing in Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio. He was well-known as an official in basketball, baseball, football and softball. He had served as president of the Tri-County Basketball Officials Chapter. Mr. Buck enjoyed baseball and was a die-hard Dodgers fan. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army in Korea and saw action in Mak Tong, North Korea. Mr. Buck began his working career as a bread man for Tip Top Bakery, then worked at Joy for a time before becoming a salesman for Bohlender John's, which later became Spauldings. He retired in 1991. He was a former member of the Eagles and Elks. Mr. Buck was married Sept. 1, 1956, to the former Mary Ann Harris, who died Sept. 7, 1992. Surviving are a son, Ronald E. Buck Jr. and wife, Tammy, of Franklin; two grandchildren, William Buck of Misenheimer, N.C., and Rachel Buck, a student at Columbia College, Chicago, Ill.; his companion, Sally Zinz of Oil City; and two sisters, Lois Hedglin and husband, Jim, of Johnstown and Patricia Conlon and husband, Lee, of Neptune, N.J. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Sally Marshall and Helen Sharp of Franklin and Diane Boal of Polk; four brothers-in-law, Lt. Col. George Harris of Ozark, Ala., John Harris of Rimersburg, Mike Harris of Lindenwald, N.J., and Bill Harris of Orlando, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Buck was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Grimm. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. Anna Louise Cravenor Anna Louise Cravenor, 99, of Main Street, Rimersburg, died at 2:10 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2005, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jean Smith, in New Bethlehem. Born March 31, 1906, in Templeton, she was the daughter of Francis V. and Elizabeth Mary Butler Lorenz. She attended the Rimer Hill School to the eighth grade. Mrs. Cravenor had been employed at Meredith's Store in Widnoon and then was the caretaker for Mrs. T.T. Meredith until her death. She was a member of St. Richard Roman Catholic Church of Rimersburg and the Rosary Society of the church. She was a former member of the Pocahontas Lodge of Armstrong County. Mrs. Cravenor was married in Wheeling, W.Va., Jan. 21, 1925, to Albert Harrison Cravenor, who died Dec. 19, 1968. Surviving are two daughters, Bernadine R. Thomas James Dolphin Thomas James Dolphin, 78, of Gibsonia, formerly of Oil City, died Saturday, May 14, 2005. Born Feb. 5, 1927, in Oil City, he was the son of John Thomas and Germaine Lynam Dolphin. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School, Oil City, Gannon University, Rensselaer and SUNY, Buffalo. Mr. Dolphin was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He had been an electrical engineer for Westinghouse for more than 40 years. He invented and patented several steel-making processes. Mr. Dolphin was a devout Catholic and was an avid golfer and skier. He was married for 54 years to the former Jean Layden, who survives. Also surviving are three children, John Thomas Dolphin and wife, Louanne, of Butler, James Andrew Dolphin of Gibsonia and Anne Dolphin Sheridan and husband, Kevin, of Winsted, Conn.; and four grandchildren, Christopher Dolphin, Hannah, Cara and Kyle Sheridan. He also is survived by two sisters, Mary Dolphin and Margaret Dolphin Klosinski, both of Oil City. Edward Walter Homer Edward Walter Homer, 84, of 322 Union St., Titusville, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, May 15, 2005, in the Titusville Area Hospital. Born Jan. 24, 1921, in Titusville, he was the son of Walter E. and Gertrude Ida Sweetland Homer. He was a 1939 graduate of Colestock High School, Titusville. Mr. Homer enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force Jan. 6, 1942, in Pittsburgh. He served as link trainer instructor until Nov. 29, 1945, when he was honorably discharged at Patterson Field, Ohio, with the rank of staff sergeant. A lifelong resident of the Titusville area, he was a member of St. Walburga Catholic Church, Titusville, where he served on Parish Council for several years. He also served as eucharistic minister at St. Anthony Church in Tionesta and St. Walburga Church. He was a member of Cleo J. Ross American Legion Post No. 368. Mr. Homer worked as a machinist at Universal Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. for 16 years and owned and operated Ed's Cabinet Shop in Neilltown for 29 years. A skilled craftsman, he was very instrumental in the early development of Homer Wood Hardwood Floors and assisted in the renovation of St. Walburga and St. Titus churches and St. Thomas More Center in Cranberry. He was an avid bowler, golfer, pool player, TV sports fan and joke teller. He loved telling family stories and playing his own handcrafted guitar. He was a man of honor and integrity. Mr. Homer was married in Kansas City, Mo., Jan. 19, 1945, to the former Rita Ruot, who survives. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. Also surviving are a son, John M. Homer and wife, Dr. Marcie Wethlie Homer of Titusville; three daughters, Lorraine K. Baker and husband, Brian, of Titusville, Denise J. Goodwin and husband, Michael, of Blooming Glen and Michelle L. Fitzgerald and husband, Ray, of Brookville; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a sister, Edna M. Cardullo of Erie; a brother-in-law, Joseph Ruot and wife, Ruth, of Titusville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Moran held various jobs prior to marrying Frank Joseph Moran Aug. 15, 1948, and raising a family of seven children. Her life centered around family and church. She was always concerned with the well being of others and her heart and home were always open. She was an active member of the Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church and the Rosary Society of the church. Mrs. Moran enjoyed traveling and visiting her children and grandchildren. Surviving are her husband, Frank Moran, of 56 years; six children, Francis A. Moran of Oil City, Dianne Moran Evripidou and husband, Aristotelis, of Chandler, Ariz., Susan Moran and Mary Ann Moran, both of Chandler, Ariz., Jon Moran and wife, Kristen, of Louisville, Ky., and Daniel Moran and wife, Nichelle, of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Moran of Peoria, Ill., Jessica Moran Streczywilk of Franklin, Alex Moran of Gilbert, Ariz., Nikolas, Christopher and Michael Evripidou of Chandler, Ariz., and Alexis Rose Moran of Pittsburgh; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Perry was married Nov. 18, 1942, to Joseph F. Perry, who died April 27, 1977. She and her husband owned and operated several small grocery stores in and around Clarion County. She also was a cashier at the former 76 Truck Stop in Clarion. Mrs. Perry loved reading, crocheting and doing crafts. Surviving are a daughter and husband, Frances and Jerry Hardy of Waynesburg; two granddaughters, Rebecca Hardy and Stephanie Hardy; and a stepbrother and wife, Roy and Mary Hile of Sligo. Kreidler, Oil City Nancy Treadwell Ross, formerly of Victory Heights and Lake Latonka Judith Ann Alsbaugh Judith Ann Alsbaugh, 63, of Lake City, an Oil City native, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005. Born Feb. 25, 1942, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Evelyn Whitling of Jensen Beach, Fla., and the late Willis Whitling. She was a graduate of Cranberry High School and attended Eastern Nazarene College. Mrs. Alsbaugh was a member of the Erie Millcreek Church of the Nazarene. Before her illness, she actively was involved in district and local church events. Her life centered on family and church and she invested much of her time in helping young people develop their musical abilities. She also directed the church choir for many years. She was passionate about missions and reached out to others whenever she saw a need. Mrs. Alsbaugh was married for 38 years to William Alsbaugh, who survives, along with her mother. Also surviving are a daughter, Tricia Alsbaugh of Tacoma; a son, Erich and wife, Carolyn, and their children, Jared and Brynn Alsbaugh of Lake City; and a son, Jason Alsbaugh of Roanoke, Va. She also is survived by a brother, David Whitling and wife, Cookie, of University Park, Wash.; and a sister, Patty, and husband, the Rev. Kenneth Culbertson, of Bethel Park. A celebration and memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the New Life Community Church, 1755 Lord Road, Fairview. Gerald M. 'Jud' Faller Gerald M. "Jud" Faller, 88, of 403 Sunnydale Drive, Healdsburg, Calif., 95448, a former Fryburg resident, died Monday, May 9, 2005, at his home of heart failure. Born Oct. 17, 1916, in Fryburg, he was the son of Henry C. and Magdalena Ditz Faller. Mr. Faller attended the University of Notre Dame, where he studied business, sang in the Men's Glee Club and graduated in 1939. He served in the National Guard and U.S. Army from 1941 to 1943. In 1941, Mr. Faller married Helen Herrmann of Pittsburgh. They moved to Fryburg in 1945 so that he could work in partnership with his father and brother, Bernard, in the family's furniture and mortuary business, known as H.C. Faller & Sons. Mr. Faller and his wife raised six children and made Fryburg their home for the next 20 years. In 1965, the couple moved to Healdsburg where Mr. Faller bought the former Barbieri Furniture Store and operated Faller Home Furnishings at that site until the early 1970s. After closing the store, Mr. Faller worked for J.C. Penney and later created his own drapery installation and handyman business known as Judco. He was an active member of St. John Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was involved in various church activities and programs. Mr. Faller was a member of SIRS and also served on the Healdsburg Friends of the Library Board. He enjoyed woodworking and was a true handyman, spending many hours in his workshop making pieces of furniture or other useful inventions and gifts for his family. Surviving are his wife, Helen, of 63 years; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Ann and Mike Collins of Santa Barbara, Carol Faller of Eugene, Ore., and Rosie and Mike Fletcher of Derwood, Md.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Clare Faller of Healdsburg, Chris and Kathy Faller of San Diego and Joel and Bonnie Faller of Novato; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Faller was preceded in death by his brother, Bernard, and two sisters, Anne Miller and Madeline Johnson. Olive E. Kreidler Olive E. Kreidler, 94, of Oil City, died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2005, in the Oil City Presbyterian Home. Born in 1910 in Oil City, she was the daughter of Jesse M. and Lida Cousley Kreidler. Miss Kreidler graduated in 1928 from Oil City Senior High School and attended Grove City College and studied piano and organ. For 36 years she worked as office manager and auditor at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. For 25 years she was organist at the First Presbyterian Church of Oil City and served as an ordained deacon. Her love of music and the outdoors showed in her other activities as a member of the Oil City Boat Club at Rockmere, president of the Schubert Music and Literary Club and the Pennsylvania State Federation of Music Clubs Board of Directors. Miss Kreidler was past-matron of the Order of Eastern Star and volunteered at the Venango County Museum of Arts, Science and Industry during its beginning. Surviving are her niece, Mrs. Kathleen L. (Katie Kreidler) Pouchan and husband, Daniel A. Pouchan, of Springfield, Va.; her nephew, John J. Kreidler Sr. and wife, Barbara L. (English) Kreidler, of Oil City; and her great-nieces and great-nephews, John J. Kreidler Jr. of Oil City, Mrs. Angelique M. (Kreidler) Ehat and husband, Eric Ehat, of Valencia, Calif., and Jason A. Kreidler and wife, Mrs. Melissa M. (Kerr) Kreidler, and Ryan L. Kreidler, all of Oil City. She also was the great-great aunt of seven children. She enjoyed playing bridge, teaching Latin and especially her family. Mrs. Ross was married April 5, 1947, to Herbert J. Ross Jr., who died Feb. 21, 1981. Eckel, 87, of Mentor, Ohio, widow of a former Franklin resident, died Friday, May 6, 2005, in Willoughby, Ohio. She was born Kathleen Judd March 15, 1918, in East Cleveland, Ohio. Mrs. Eckel was a longtime resident of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and had resided in Mentor for the past seven years. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, for 40 years. Mrs. Eckel also was a member of the Daughters of 98 and the VFW Auxiliary 1500 in Ohio. She volunteered at the Cleveland Clinic and was an avid craftsmaker. Mrs. Eckel was married to Joseph A. Eckel Jr., a former Franklin resident who preceded her in death. Surviving are a son, Joseph A. Eckel III and wife, Corinne, of Franklin; two daughters, Rosemary Rufo and husband, Gilbert, of Garrettsville, Ohio, and Kathy Fielitz and husband, Allan, of Mentor, Ohio; three grandchildren, Christine Hall and husband, Bruce, Amy Berie and husband, Jacques, and Christine Riffle; and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Hall. Surviving are a daughter and husband, Bonnie and James F. Thompson of Mercer; one granddaughter, Amy Urey and husband, Michael, of Mercer; two great-grandchildren, Shane Urey and Rachael Urey; and two stepgrandchildren, Jackie Thompson and Ken Thompson. She also is survived by a sister, Irene Byler of Erie; and a brother, John Honacki of Oil City. Thomas, 30, of Pittsburgh, a former Oil City resident, died of cancer Sunday, May 8. 2005. Her spirit never wavered in her battle against cancer and her courage and unyielding strength were an inspiration to those who loved her. She was the daughter of Barb Capp of Oil City and the granddaughter of Orrin and Martha Hepler. Ms. Thomas was a 1993 graduate of Oil City High School and was a graduate of Duquesne University School of Nursing. She was a nurse at the Southside Hospital and Pediatric Cardiology of Western Pennsylvania. Ms. Thomas was involved in community service and volunteered for the American Red Cross Southwest Pennsylvania for eight years. She was passionate about diabetic research and education. Surviving, in addition to her mother and grandparents, are her twin sister, Lori M. Thomas of Pittsburgh, formerly of Oil City; and dear friends, Stacy Cale, Jill Ireland, Jenice Rightmyer and Jennifer Rosenberry, who orchestrated her care and became her soldiers in battle. St Paul's Lutheran and St Paul's Reformed Church (now St Paul's United Church of Christ) share the one cemetery which is located near Wentling's Corners a short ways from Knox, Beaver Twp,Clarion County, Pa. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion and the Golden Emblem Club of Owens-Illinois. Mrs. Deemer enjoyed playing cards with her friends.
